Remembering Tiger Lily Roar, a multi-fandom fanfiction archive, is being imported to the Archive of Our Own (AO3).

Tiger Lily Roar was a fanfiction writer. She wrote works for several fandoms under two pen names, Lily Ann Lyones and Tiger Lily Roar. She passed away in 2023. Her fanworks will be preserved by her fans and friends.

Open Doors will be working with Eva to import Remembering Tiger Lily Roar into a separate memorial account on the Archive of Our Own.

We will begin importing works by Lily Ann Lyones to the AO3 after February. You will find them on the rememberingtigerlilyroar_memorial account.

We'd also love it if fans could help us preserve the story of Tiger Lily Roar on Fanlore. If you're new to wiki editing, no worries! Check out the new visitor portal, or ask the Fanlore Gardeners for tips.

We're honored to be able to help preserve the works of Lily Ann Lyones, and while we mourn the loss of her, we also realize that we are fortunate that she had a friend who was given permission to collect and preserve her works on the AO3 so that they will not be lost. Thinking about the death of a fandom friend may be difficult, but it can also be an opportunity to consider what will happen to your fanworks and accounts and those of your friends after your deaths. The Archive of Our Own has an option to name a Fannish Next of Kin, someone who would be able to gain access to your accounts in the case of your death or incapacitation. By naming someone who can act on your behalf, you can decide ahead of time how you want your AO3 accounts handled going into the future.

The syntax here is confusing. Is Remembering Tiger Lily Roar a once-standalone memorial project that is being imported to AO3, or is the memorial project just getting started & has never been standalone from AO3? If the latter, it doesn't make sense to use the same language as an import from an existing website/archive.
Furthermore, who is Eva? The text mentions that "a friend" was given permission by Tiger to manage her works, but this isn't specified to be Eva.
I'm all for memorial accounts- I think it'll be a great way to help preserve fanworks by older fans- but I'm left a bit lost by the post itself.

  I think Eva is the name of the friend that is making sure that Lily's fanwork isn't going to be lost if/when FFN decides to go down for good. I think that this author possibly has other works out there that have been posted to other sites, so maybe this is why AO3 has taken on tracking down these works and importing them to AO3. I also do have questions about whether this memorial project is getting started.
  I really wish that we can do memorial projects for the fanfiction authors up on LiveJournal who passed away, but at one point LiveJournal would delete your account if you weren't active on it for a year and sadly we will never get back the fanfics that have been lost due to the passing of their authors unless LJ memoralized your account to prevent it from being caught up in the annual deletion process.
  It seems to me that the memorial account already has transferred over a lot of Lily's works from FFN already.
  I know quite a few authors who have passed away. Some of them have accounts here that are maintained either by a family member or a trusted fandom friend, but there's so many over on FFN and I worry that if FFN disappears one day (because I highly doubt we'd even be alerted of the decision to remove the site) that these authors' works will be lost to us forever because they are deceased and can't cross-post their fics to this platform.

  Zephroar is correct that Eva is Tiger Lily Roar's friend, working with Open Doors to preserve her fanworks on the AO3, and also correct that the memorial account is already well underway. The works were previously on FF.net and are being moved to AO3. May Tiger Lily Roar, Rest In Peace, (why did that capitalize- ) and is able continue writing amazing stories in the afterlife! Ghosts need some form of entertainment, after all.

I hope that the keeper of the FFNET account would reconsider deleting the works from FFNET. The site may have issues, but there are thousands of reviews, years of love and affection from her readers, and it would be really sad to see it deleted. All those reviews, I imagine, would've held a special place in the heart (as they do for most fannish writers). Maybe they can be preserved somewhere? Hm...
Either way, I am glad that it will be preserved here on AO3. Rest in peace.

  At this point, I feel that it is up to the person who is now in charge of the account. Personally, I would keep these stories up on FFN because this site meant a lot to the original author and I'd want to preserve that little piece of her, not to mention that I'd also want to preserve all those reviews. However, I feel that if the person who is now behind this account thinks there is an issue with FFN and that there is a possibility that her friend's stories are at risk of disappearing- then we need to respect that decision.
  It is heartbreaking to make the decision to pull your own stories from a site. I can't begin to imagine how devastating it would be for a person so close to the author to make the decision to take down the stories in an effort to make sure that her friend's works are on a site where they are not at risk of being removed.

    Of course. It's a very difficult situation no matter what, especially when it's a close friend. There's no easy choices to make. And definitely, it's up to them.
    I guess I just don't see the reasoning to take it down entirely? FFNET is one server failure away from disappearing, and certainly archiving it somewhere more is needed, I agree! But why also delete it from there... is there some requirement to delete the original when archiving here on AO3? It could otherwise remain on both places, couldn't it?
    Either way, it makes me happy to know there are memorial accounts and a way to preserve those stories, even if the circumstances are sad. The author's legacy will live on forever.

      Yeah, I agree with you on this. I'd keep the stories up on FFN just for legacy purposes, but I'd definitely cross-post them here as well just in case. I don't actually believe that there is any such requirement to delete the stories on one platform to post them here. At least, I don't think there is such a requirement. But maybe there's other reasons for why the person who is now behind this author's account is removing them from FFN? I honestly don't understand the reasoning, but I imagine it's personal.
      It also makes me happy to know that there are memorial accounts. Even though it is so sad to know that the author behind the stories has passed away. Unfortunately I know so many fic authors who have died, and it always makes me so sad whenever I click on their stories and know that they are gone.

  I have similar feelings. It's a shame that all the comments from readers people left on Tiger Lily Roar are going to be lost. I understand why Eva wouldn't want to keep the stories there, as ffnet doesn't allow you to delete comments. There's a serious issue with spam, scams and crime over there which makes it frustrating not being able to moderate your own stories and it may taint Tiger Lily Roar legacy if bad commemts keep coming. At the same time, I wish there was a way to preserve all the legit comments readers left through the years.

    That is actually a really great point. FFNET moderation tools are.. Basically non-existent. So if someone went to look, there might already be a ton of spam!
    Maybe they can record all the comments the day they take it down and publish it somewhere?
    I don't know if AO3 is the right place for it, or not, but that would be great if they can be preserved. Perhaps as an appendix type entry separately from the other works?

      I think the comment pages on ffnet can be archived on the wayback machine! I was bored a few months back and ran my ffnet account through the wayback machine and was (somewhat) pleasantly surprised that someone had archived most of the first few fanfics that I had uploaded to the site, especially since none of my fics were popular. I had deleted several of them a decade ago, so it was something to reread them and the reviews in 2024. If Eva was amenable, then the comments can be preserved that way, assuming someone hasn't done so already over the years.

  Perhaps a note could be added to the memorial account documenting the volume of comments her work received on FFNet and acknowledging that it wasn't possible to keep them or import them.
  What is important is that she read the positive comments and that they gave her joy while she was alive. ♥️
  P.S. perhaps her established readrrs could be asked to leave a comment here on a story and what it meant to them.

Absolutely tragic to know that we lost another fanfic author and to know the circumstances in which she passed is just so devastating because it means another voice has been silenced and a very talented author being taken from us. I hope she rests in peace and that her stories live on for new readers to enjoy them.
I am glad that Tiger Lily Roar's fic is posted here. It's sad that she's not the one posting her stories for us to enjoy, but I am glad that this memorial account is here. I hope in time that we can have memorial accounts of other fanfic authors because I know so many who have sadly passed away. Some of them were authors here. So many others were on LiveJournal, FFN, and other writing sites- some of these authors have been completely lost to us because some of the sites are gone now or they once had policies where they deleted inactive accounts.
I hope that Lily is resting in peace and that her works will live on in the hearts and minds of readers who discover her stories.

  I'm still looking after the account of a dear friend, Amidala Thrace, who passed away in 2011, before the Fannish Next-of-Kin option was fully implemented. I can't switch her AO3 to a memorialised version as I did for her LiveJournal, but I still reply to comments if anybody leaves them.
  I do wish there were some way to fix that loophole if one can prove that someone is no longer with us, but I've made sure to set up my own FNOK now it's available, just in case. It's impossible to know in advance whether you might be hit by a car or something.
  I don't know what happened to Lily, but I hope that if there is somewhere else beyond this, that she may be happy there.
