Archive of Our Own

There are two main ways to support the Archive of Our Own (AO3) – donating your time or money.

Donating Financially

AO3 is free to use and will never include ads of any type. All of our operating costs are supported by donations, and we can't run AO3 without your help. We hold donation drives twice a year in April and October, but you can donate year-round. To learn more, check out our budget reports or refer to our Donation and Finance FAQs.

Donating Your Time

Volunteering

The Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) is the parent organization of AO3. The OTW normally recruits about once a month for volunteers to support its projects. Many of the OTW's committees contribute to AO3 in some capacity. However, if you are interested in volunteering primarily for AO3, the committees to look for are: Accessibility, Design, & Technology; AO3 Documentation; Policy & Abuse; Support; Tag Wrangling; Translation; and User Response Translation.

We encourage you to browse through our open volunteer position listings and apply for any volunteer roles that match your qualifications and interests. If there are no roles currently recruiting, you can sign up for OTW News by Email or follow us on social media.

Contributing Code

AO3 is run on open-source archiving software developed by OTW volunteers and community contributors. Anyone can contribute to one of the open tasks in our Jira project. To get started, refer to our Contributing Guidelines.
