Chapter Ten
There was a new kid in Boatem.
Mumbo knew about the server that had been transported here and they were staying with the hermits until they could build their own homes. He had met Tubbo, the goat kid, and the very tall, quiet one, but this kid was new. He was blond and had black wings and he was using one of Scar’s old wheelchairs. He should ask Scar about that.
“Hey Tubbo.” He called as the boy walked through the square.
“Hmm? Oh, hi Mumbo.” He walked over. “What’s up?”
“I was wondering. Do you know who the boy in the wheelchair is?”
“That’s Tommy.” He paused. “I can’t stick around, sorry Mumbo.” He grinned, the glint in his eye was not a good sign. He ran off.
“Be careful!” The tall man called after him.
When Mumbo heard an explosion minutes later, he could only sigh.

Mumbo saw a flash of purple and suddenly there was a tall boy at his side.
“What are you doing?”
“Ah!” He shrieked. “Sorry Mr. Jumbo. I didn’t know you were here.”
“Please call me Mumbo, Ranboo.”
“Ok… Mumbo.” He grimaced. “It feels wrong.”
“You’ll get used to it.” He smiled. “What are you doing here?”
“Hiding from Tommy and Tubbo.” This boy, Tommy, seems like he’s everywhere. It’s a wonder Mumbo hasn’t met him yet.
“Boob boy!” Ranboo twitched when he heard the boy’s voice. He ran off towards the center of Boatem.
“Be careful around the Boatem hole!”
“Have you seen Ranboo?” Mumbo startled at the voice behind him.
“Hello Tubbo.” He looked to the side and saw a blond boy sitting next to him. “And Tommy, I presume.”
“Hi.” He brushed off the greeting. “Do you know where Ranboo is?”
“He went towards the square.” The boy took off immediately, wheeling towards the square at high speeds. “It was nice to meet you…”

Mumbo and Grian were building another house on top of Mumbo’s base. He didn’t really need the help, but it was nice to talk with Grian. They’d been so busy lately.
“Alright, I finished the roof.” The man said, hopping down to the ground. “It sure is humid up here.” He had discarded his red sweater and was left with a white tank top. He leaned down to grab a plank off the grass and a necklace slipped from under his shirt.
“Is- is that a ring?”
“Hmm?”
“On your necklace, is that a ring? Are you married?” Mumbo spiraled. “Are you engaged? How did I not know?”
“Woah, Mumbo. Calm down. It’s alright that you didn’t know. I don’t mention it.”
“I’m sorry I learned about it then. Since you wanted to keep it a secret.”
“Mumbo, it’s not a secret. I just don’t mention it very often.” He grinned. “To be honest, I thought you knew.”
“I didn’t. You’ll have to show me wedding photos sometime.”
“Sure, Mumbo.” He chuckled.

“Tommy…” He heard Grian sigh as he walked back to his van. “Please just listen to me. Let me be your dad.”
‘What?’ Mumbo was confused. He knew Grian was impulsive and sometimes irrational, but- wow.
“Grian.” Mumbo confronted Grian the next day.
“Yes Mr. Mumbo Jumbo.” He spoke, not turning around.
“Grian, what are you trying to do with Tommy?”
“What do you mean?” He turned, a frown forming. “He’s at my house right now.”
“Grian…”
“Why do you keep saying my name so much?”
“Why are you trying to steal a child?”
“WHAT?” Grian’s eyes widened.
“I heard you talking to Tommy about letting you be his dad. You can’t just adopt a child who has parents.”
“Mumbo. You know I love you, but you are a spoon.” He snickered. “Tommy is my son.”
“Wha- Ohhhhh…”
“Yes, Mumbo.”
“I’m a spoon.” His head fell into his hands. “How do I know so little about you.”

There had been some “strange” occurences in Boatem. Not anything supernatural, but Mumbo had witnessed some questionable interactions. He was beginning to worry about Grian. And he was definitely worried about Scar.
Grian and Scar had always been close, but Scar seemed particularly flustered by the winged man lately. It had become clear that he had a bit of a crush. And Grian wasn’t doing anything about it. Mumbo had overheard Grian flirting with Scar. He had known Grian for ages and he didn’t seem like the kind of person to lead Scar on, but he was worried. The final straw came on the day of a server-wide party.
They had gathered at Joe and Cleo’s base. It was interesting to interact with the members of the other server he hadn’t met yet. He spoke to the woman staying at Joe and Cleo’s, learning that her name was Niki, she had been excited to meet Doc after learning that he also spoke German and left Mumbo alone. Ren had discussed a slime that had disappeared from the facility, before Tango whisked him away to explain. He was able to discuss redstone with a man named Sam and overall he had a nice time. Until the end.
“I’m worried about Scar, man.” Cub walked up behind Mumbo.
“What do you mean?”
“He’s been talking a lot about Grian lately and I think he has a crush.”
“I noticed.”
“I just don’t want Grian to lead him on. I can’t see him get hurt like that.”
“I’m worried as well.” Mumbo grimaced. “Grian hasn’t been stopping Scar, he’s been flirting with him.”
“Hmm.” Cub squared his shoulders and started walking over to where Grian was standing.
“Cub wait. Cub!” He raced after. “I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“Why are you flirting with Scar?” The scientist glared at Grian.
“Hmm?” Grian looked over at them.
“He clearly has a crush on you. Why aren’t you turning him down.”
“He has a crush on me?”
“You are ridiculous!” Cub shouted. “You don’t notice and you still flirt with him. You’re going ot break his heart.”
“Why would I break his heart?” Grian cocked his head. “He’s very attractive.” He almost purred.
“Grian!” Mumbo gasped, scandalized.
“Scar!” The watcher called to the man.
“Yeah?” The man wheeled over to meet them.
“I heard you have a crush on me.” He wiggled his eyebrows and dropped onto Scar’s lap. The vex blushed bright blue.
“Um- uh…”
“You’re pretty hot, you know.” Grian leaned into Scar, glancing at his lips.
“GRIAN! YOU’RE MARRIED!” The two startled, staring at the redstoner.
“Oh Mumbo.” Grian laughed, exasperated. “Mumbo, you spoon.”
“Are you alright Mumbo?” Scar’s blush was gone. He stared up at Mumbo, amusement on his face, his hands on Grian’s hips. “You look a little flustered there.”
“How can you do this to your spouse?” Mumbo whispered to Grian. He couldn’t believe his best friend.
“I know. It’s so terrible of me.” The shorter man grinned. “I can’t believe I would flirt with my husband. How could I do that.” Mumbo froze, he turned to look at Cub behind him, mouth agape.
“Did you know this?” Cub asked.
“No. Did you?” He shook his head.
Mumbo looked around to see everyone staring at them. Many of the hermits has the same shocked look, but not all of them. Pearl was giggling, Joe and Cleo were smiling knowingly at each other, and Iskall handing Etho money.
“I thought most people knew.” Scar smiled. “We told Suma.” That’s when Mumbo spotted Xisuma trying to sneak out the back door. Cub must have noticed him at the same time.
“Xisuma! Hey!” He ran over to the admin. “Hey man, why didn’t you tell us that.” The other party guests turned to him as well. As Xisuma tried to explain, Mumbo looked back at Scar and Grian, who were chuckling to each other.
“I still don’t understand one thing.” Mumbo looked at Scar. “Why were you suddenly so flustered by Grian.” Scar blushed again.
“Tommy.”
“What about Tommy?” Mumbo’s brow furrowed. “Oh… I get it. If you ever need a babysitter, I’m available.”
