Chapter Text

The weekend went smoothly. No more threatening flowers. Just peace. He was dreading going back to school. Sure the flowers weren’t that bad but it still bothered him, no matter how much he tried to deny it.

“‘Toshi come on, we're gonna be late.” He hears his sister call from downstairs.

Sighing, he grabs his bag and makes his way towards his sister. The walk is spent mostly with Mei chatting about her newest ‘baby’ that she’s working on. Hitoshi doesn’t mind it. He’s never really been talkative and prefers it when others speak. It’s less tiring.

They make it to school a bit earlier than most of the people and head towards the Gen Ed lockers. Usually, Hitoshi grabs the stuff he’ll need for his first three classes and then stays in Mei’s workshop until the bell rings.

Today, however, when they get to his locker he’s met with yet another flower. Signing, he picks it up and inspects it.

“Still, I thought they would have stopped last week. And how is it so early in the morning, there’s barely anyone here.” His sister complains next to him.

“I don’t know.” He murmurs, stuffing the flower in his bag and grabbing his stuff. They walk in silence to Mei’s workshop and only when he’s settled on the sofa he pulls out his phone, Mei sitting next to him watching carefully.

‘Black dahlia flower meaning’ he types into the search bar.

‘Betrayal and sadness’

He frowns at the result. It doesn't make much sense.

“Betrayal.” His sister speaks up. “Who have you betrayed?” She wonders outloud.

“I don’t know, it doesn’t make sense.” He murmurs, dropping the flower next to him, letting it land on the sofa with a thud.

The rest of the school day was spent worrying about the stupid flowers he was receiving. He doesn’t understand why it's bothering him so much. He should be used to this by now, he’s been bullied much worse most of his life and it never bothered him this much. Why is it different now? Was it because UA is meant to be different? They don’t accept bullying but then again he refuses to tell anyone. He can’t really complain then.

The next day starts mostly the same. He wakes up late to his sister shouting at him that they’ll be late. He rushes around his room trying to get dressed and then they run to the train station to catch the train.

When they get to school there’s no flowers in his locker. He feels a bit relieved that he won't have to worry about it until later on in the day but that just makes his anxiety so much worse.

The lunch bell rings too quickly and he makes his way to his sister’s workshop so they can go to the canteen together.

They stop by his locker and he opens it already preparing for what will most likely be in there. However this time he freezes.

He hears his sister gasp next to him but he can’t force himself to move his hands to grab it.

Maybe they should have gone to their dads.

After what felt like ages of him just standing there but was probably only a few seconds, he brings a shaky hand up and reaches for the flower. Unlike the others, this one isn’t a plastic bouquet, instead one singular real flower.

His breath hitches as he brings it closer to him to look at it better. A few more minutes longer and his locker is closing and he’s being dragged away by his sister.

“Where are we going?” He questions and tries to hide the shakiness in his voice. He’s still gripping the flower in his hand next to him and can’t allow himself to let go.

“To dad.” Mei says sternly. Her voice causes him to shiver. He’s never heard her so angry? upset? worried? He doesn’t know which one it is or if it's a mix of all three.

Before he can say anything else they are outside his dad’s office and Mei lifts the hand not gripping Hitoshi and knocks.

“We need to talk to you.” Mei says when their dad opens the door and a second later he’s being led inside the room.

“What’s wrong?” He asks.

“Nothing.” Hitoshi replies but is cut off by Mei.

“Hitoshi is being bullied and I think they are in your class.” She explains and when he looks up Aizawa’s dance now matches his sisters.

“I’m not being bullied and there’s no proof that it's them.” He protests, more to his sister than their dad.

“Yeah right ‘Toshi.” She gives him a pointed look before turning back to their dad.

“Someone has been putting flowers in his locker for the past week and when we looked up the meaning of them, they were all bad things.”

“Bad things? Like what?” He questions. His expression full of concern.

“Like hatred, betrayal, ungratefulness, things like that. And then today they gave him a spider lily.” She exclaims, motioning to the flower still in his hands. He forgot he had it.

“Who was it?” He asks, his tone now rising with anger though Hitoshi knows it’s not directed at either of them.

“I don’t know their names but at lunch on friday these two people in your class kept looking at us and it was right after we found a different flower in his locker. It was a girl with pink hair and pink skin and a boy with blonde hair and a black bolt thingy in his hair.” She informs.

“What flowers did they give you?” He asks, now looking at Hitoshi.

He doesn’t say anything but pulls out his phone and shows him the bookmarks he saved of each of the flowers and their meanings.

“Ok, I'll deal with it. Don’t worry.” He says, anger being replaced with sympathy. He hands the phone back and takes the flower off him.

“Thank you.” Mei says and leads him to the door. “Come, let’s see if papa will let us have lunch in his room.”

Mina and Kaminari’ Out of all the people in his class he did not expect them two to be the ones who would bully his son.

It is such a nasty way as well, giving him things that are meant to be for love and kindness for something bad. He can’t even come up with a reason they would want to, not that any reason is even acceptable.

He didn’t expect the first person to get expelled from his class would be one of them two. Even Mineta hasn’t been expelled yet. He is trying his hardest to get that grape out of his class though.

Walking towards his desk, he leaves the flower inside one of his draws and makes a mental note to get rid of it later. He’ll talk to them after school today.

“You gave him a spider lily!” Bakugou raved.

“Yeah? Why are you so pissed at that?” Kaminari questions.

“Dude. I thought you liked him. Why would you give him a spider lily.” Kirishima chimes in.

“Do you even know what they mean?” Sero questions, looking between Mina and Kaminari.

“Yeah. It means love right?” He answers, turning to Mina.

“Yeah it does. I don’t know what you guys have a problem with.” She replies.

“It does not mean love. Who the hell told you that.” Sero asks.

“I saw it online.” She tells them.

“Well it's wrong. Spider lilies mean death.” Bakugou informs, causing Kaminari and Mina’s face to drop.

“You basically just told him that you wish he was dead.” Kirishima says.

“MINA!” Kaminari shouts.

“What? This ain't my fault, I didn't know it meant that .” She exclaims.

“You’re the one that told me that it meant love.” Kaminari argues,

“That’s what i thought.” She says.

“Ok, well it’s too late now to argue. Maybe if you're quick enough you can get it before he sees it.” Sero suggests.

“Oh yeah, we can still get it. Come on Denks.” Mina agrees, already rushing off and pulling the blonde with her.

They rush to the Gen Ed lockers hoping that the boy hadn’t gone to his locker before going to lunch. Hope leaves them when Mina opens the locker to find the flower already gone.

“What do we do now?” Kaminari asks. “He’s never gonna like me if he finds out I gave him the spider lily.”

“He doesn’t know it was us though. So after school we can talk to him and explain what happened. I’m sure he’ll understand right.” Mina returned.

“Ok. We’ll do that.”

“Mina and Kaminari stay behind, please.”

The bell had rung signalling the end of the school day and the students of class 1-a were packing up when Aizawa called out. They stay seated and wait for the rest of the class to leave.

“Are we in trouble?” Kaminari asks when everyone else has left.

“That depends.” Aizawa replies sternly.

“On?”

“Have you two been giving flowers to a boy in another class?” Aizawa ignores Kaminari’s question and instead asks his own.

“We can explain that.” Mina says quickly.

“We promise we didn’t know what the spider lily meant until after we had given it to him.”

“Yeah we would never give that to someone if we knew it meant that.”

Aizawa looks between the two students. Before he can say anything Mina speaks up again.

“When we had told the others what flower we gave, they told us the meaning and then we were going to get it back but by then he had already seen it.” She admits sadly.

“And what about the other flowers? They all meant something similar.”

Aizawa’s eyes narrow at the confusion on the two students' faces.

“What do you mean? None of the other flowers meant something bad.” Kaminari asks after a moment.

“Yes they do. Hitoshi searched it up and none of them meant nice things.” Aizawa replies. He pulls his phone out and opens the tab of the flowers Hitoshi mentioned receiving.

“Sunflowers meaning haughtiness, Peonies meaning shame, snapdragons meaning deception.” He lists looking between the two students and his phone. “None of the others mean anything better.”

“Mina, what the hell. You said they meant something else.” Kaminari whispers, turning to face his pink haired friend.

“That's not the meaning I found.” She says, ignoring Kaminari.

“What did you think they meant?” He asks her. One thing about him is that he’s fair. Whether it comes to his own kids or his students, he wouldn’t punish them for something that was a misunderstanding.

He waits a few moments while the pink haired girl pulls out her own phone and shows him a list of all the flowers she had collected.

Sunflowers mean adoration.

Peonies mean happiness.

Snapdragons mean grace

Buttercups mean new beginning

Tansies mean good health

Lilies mean purity

Dahlia mean beauty

Spider lilies mean love

Aizawa sighs before handing the phone back to the girl.

“Firstly, I'm sorry he must have looked on a different website or something like that.” He starts. “Secondly, black dahlias don't mean beauty, they mean betrayal; it's only some of the other coloured ones that mean beauty. But I understand why that was a misunderstanding. Same for the spider lily so you won't be punished for that.”

Two signs are let out before Aizawa speaks again.

"Finally, if you like someone” he says facing Kaminari. “maybe don’t break into their lockers and leave them flowers, at least say something to them.” Kaminari freezes for a moment, half expecting to get told off, before nodding sheepishly.

“Well now we gotta apologize and you gotta confess.” Mina told him after they were dismissed.

“Now?” He asks.

“Yes. We gave him a spider lily. We gotta apologize.”

“Yeah, you're right.”

The two make their way outside and find Hitoshi standing near the gym. They walk over to him, stopping a few feet away.

“Hello.” Mina calls out, causing the purple haired boy to look up. He tilts his head in confusion and brings his hand up to pull his headphones off.

“Hi?” He says though it's more of a question.

“My name is Mina and this is my friend Kaminari. We wanted to tell you that we were the ones who gave you the flowers.” She tells him, noticing the way the other boys face changes from confusion to something unreadable.

“But!” She says before he can speak up. “We thought the flowers meant something different. Aizawa-sensie told us what you found out they meant but when i searched it up, it came up with something totally different. And then the spider lily we thought meant love and not death. We are so so sorry.”

Silence surrounds them for a moment as Hitoshi tries to comprehend what she had said.

“Ok.” He says slowly, his brain finally catching up. “But why… Why were you giving me flowers in the first place.” He asks carefully.

“Kaminari will tell you that. But I just want you to know that I am very sorry and I hope you can forgive me.” Mina says before whispering a quiet ‘good luck~’ to the blonde before walking away.

Hitoshi looks at her with a confused expression before turning to the other.

“Well, i wanted to tell you something but i was scared and Mina said this was a good idea.” Kaminari announced sheepishly.

“Tell me something?” Hitoshi questioned. “Tell me what?” Kaminari sucked in a breath before answering. ‘ He can do this. He can do this.’

“I wanted to tell you that I like you.” He says slowly. “And I wanted to ask you out but I was scared to, so I asked Mina to help me.” He mutters, fiddling with the hem of his shirt.

“You,” Hitoshi says, pointing at Kaminari. “Like me.” He points at himself.

“Yeah.” Kaminari offers a small smile, noticing the reddish pink on the taller boy's face and thinks he probably looks so much worse.

“Would you like to go out with me?” He asks after a moment of silence.

“Ok. I would like to.” Hitoshi replies, a smile of his own forming and blush deepening.

“Really!” He almost shouts before composing himself. “Ok. Ok. That’s cool.”

Maybe talking to him wasn’t so bad.
