Chapter Text

[ A few years after the wedding… ]

It was a peaceful morning in the cottage near the edge of the woods. Birds chirped, the wind danced softly through the trees—and Fire Spirit was chasing his son around the living room with a half-brushed mane of tangled red hair and an oversized pajama shirt that read “Sleep is for the weak”.

Their twins—beautiful little bundles of elemental chaos—were named Emberis spirited, giggling boy with golden-orange hair and freckles like scattered sparks. He was a born troublemaker, just like Fire Spirit.

Zephira was a quiet, clever girl with pale green hair that flowed like mist in the wind. She had Wind Archer’s observant eyes… and just a bit of her other dad’s attitude.

Wind Archer was standing in the hallway, barely dressed, sipping tea like he had just survived a war. “Fire,” he muttered, watching Emberis jump from couch to couch. “You said you’d handle the morning.”

“I am handling it,” Fire Spirit yelled back, diving after the giggling boy. “This is parenting—WITH STYLE.”

Zephira sat calmly on the couch, reading a book titled “The Elements of Weather”. “You forgot breakfast,” she reminded them both, as Wind Archer facepalmed.

And then the doorbell rang.

Stormbringer stood outside, sunglasses on, twins in hand. Solstice and Thunder were already bouncing with excitement.

“I BROUGHT THE KIDS,” she declared as the door opened. “IT’S PLAYDATE DAY, at my house!”

Wind Archer blinked.

Fire Spirit screamed in joy.

“IS THAT A WHOLE CASTLE!?” he shouted.

Wind Archer just sipped his to-go tea. “Don’t say it out loud,” he mumbled. “You’ll encourage her.”

Fire Spirit, already lifting both twins out of the backseat, grinned wide. “OH we’re saying it. STORM!! YOUR HOUSE LOOKS LIKE A GOTHIC PALACE.”

The door burst open.

Stormbringer stood with sunglasses on her head, hair tied in a wild messy bun, holding Thunder under one arm and Solstice by the hand. “Come inside!”

Frost Queen appeared behind her, serene as always, holding a tray of neatly cut fruit and sipping a smoothie. “Don’t break anything important,” she said simply before disappearing into the kitchen.

The living room was huge—two stories tall, a cozy fireplace crackling, and one side was entirely dedicated to a kid-sized play zone with pillows, tents, toy weapons, and snack tables.

Stormbringer wore a “Chaos Coordinator” apron. “Alright, losers,” she clapped. “Rule one: if it breaks, I didn’t see it. Rule two: if it’s food, ask me first. Rule three: if you rat anyone out, you’re banned from dessert.”

Fire Spirit looked over, “Is that how you parent?”
Stormbringer smiled. “It works.”

Wind Archer was in the corner, on the plush velvet couch, looking like he aged five years already. Zephira walked over and handed him a flower she picked from the backyard planter. “You need this.”

“…Thank you,” he replied, stunned. She smiled and went back to her tea party.

Frost Queen reappeared with a tray of cupcakes and gently told everyone, “Indoor voices, please.”

Emberis screamed in response.

Thunder jumped off the couch.

Solstice accidentally froze the edge of the carpet.

Stormbringer, who was now sitting on the floor with a tiara on her head thanks to the twins, leaned over to Fire Spirit and grinned.

“You know,” she said, “we’re kinda amazing parents.”

Fire Spirit nodded, frosting on his lips, holding Emberis on one hip like a sack of potatoes. “Honestly? Yeah.”

Wind Archer groaned as Zephira braided his hair.

The living room was an open battlefield of sparkly plushies, snack crumbs, and chaotic imagination. Wind Archer sat on the floor, finally sipping his long-lost tea, when suddenly—

Thunder, still wearing his blanket-cape, pointed at him.

“You’re WIND archer, right!?”
Wind Archer squinted. “…Yes?”

Zephira nodded gravely, standing beside him with her arms crossed. “Then you can fly.”

“Wha—”

“HE CAN FLY!!” screamed Solstice, and suddenly—

BAM.
A mini stampede.

Emberis, Thunder, Solstice, and Zephira all launched themselves onto Wind Archer’s back. Like gremlins. Like a chaotic force of nature. He fell face-first into a pile of pillows.

“FLY!! FLY, WIND MAN, FLYYYYY!” Thunder yelled, kicking his legs in the air.

Wind Archer groaned into a plushie pillow. “I am not… a Pegasus…”

Fire Spirit was in the kitchen, cackling.

Stormbringer ran by, wearing a blanket like a cape. “GET HIS WINGS!! GET ‘EM!!”

Solstice sat on his shoulders, hands gripping his hair. “We’re going to the SKY!!”

Zephira had a toy telescope. “I see the clouds! We’re almost there!”

Wind Archer just slowly lifted himself up, defeated, carrying four small chaotic creatures on his back.

“I hate this,” he muttered.

Frost Queen passed by calmly with a dish of strawberries. “You should’ve stayed on the couch.”

Two minutes later…

He was walking across the living room with them all still latched on, knees aching, but his face was blank. Emotionless. Resigned.

“Faster!!”
“To the stars!!”
“My hair is in the wind!!”

Fire Spirit had collapsed on the couch, laughing into his sleeves.

Wind Archer was currently serving as a majestic four-legged taxi for a screeching gang of toddlers.

Fire Spirit had tears in his eyes from laughing too hard, collapsed against Stormbringer who was already filming it all for “core memories.”

Then—

click. click.

The sound of poised heels approached from the hallway.

Frost Queen.

Her hair perfectly braided. Her gaze sharp. Her arms crossed, holding a silver thermos of herbal tea like a weapon.

She stopped. Observed the madness. Observed Wind Archer.

“…Children,” she said evenly, “Wouldn’t it be more efficient if we built Wind Archer wings instead?”

All the toddlers went completely silent.

Wind Archer froze. “I’m sorry. What.”

“I have extra fabric and ribbon. And feathers.”

Zephira’s eyes sparkled. “REAL wings?!”

Solstice gasped. “Can he FLY for real?”

Thunder ran around in circles. “WE’RE BUILDING WIND ARCHER VERSION 2.0!!”

Wind Archer blinked. “This is illegal.”

Stormbringer dropped to the floor laughing. “Frostie, what are you even—?”

But Frost Queen was already walking away. “I will return with supplies.”

The toddlers were now surrounding Wind Archer, taping cardboard, ribbons, and paper feathers onto his shoulders while Frost Queen calmly instructed.

“Align the glitter glue symmetrically, Solstice.”
“No, Thunder, wings go behind the arms. Not the ears.”

Wind Archer sat there, covered in tape and foam. A sticker on his forehead read “Airplane Mode.”

Fire Spirit peeked into the room—and dropped his tea from laughing.

Wind Archer was no longer blinking. “When I ascend to the skies, it’s not because I’m flying. It’s because I’m leaving this world.”

They had done it. The children—all four of them—stood back proudly as Wind Archer emerged from the living room transformed:

He had paper-and-ribbon wings strapped to his back. They flopped slightly as he moved. Glitter trailed from his shoulders like fairy dust. Solstice had taped a sticker that read “Sky King” across his chest. Zephira had tied a scarf around his head like a dramatic pilot. Thunder and Emberis were chanting, “FLY! FLY! FLY!”

Fire Spirit was doubled over laughing.

“I swear to the heavens,” Wind Archer said, completely deadpan, “If I perish today, tell Sugar Swan it was the children.”

“You’re fine!” Stormbringer shouted. “You’re so majestic!!”

“I look like a collapsed art project.”

“No you don’t,” Stormbringer said sweetly. “You look brave.”

“…I hate this.”

But then he crouched down. The four toddlers immediately scrambled onto his shoulders and arms like wind-up dolls. Zephira clung to his back. Solstice was perched on his hip like a koala. Thunder tried to grab onto his hair. Emberis was yelling something about sky missions.

And then—
Wind Archer took off.

He ran.

Around the house.

One lap. Two laps. All while carrying four children and flapping his fake wings with the kind of energy that could only be summoned from pure, soul-crushed determination.

“HE’S FLYING!!” Thunder shrieked.

“FASTER!!” Solstice screamed.

Wind Archer turned sharply toward the hallway—

And then almost slipped.

One sock slid against the hardwood floor, his leg shot out.

“NOOOO—NOT THE CHILDREN!!”

Wind Archer stumbled, balanced, recovered, and kept going. His eyes were wide. His whole life flashed before him. But he didn’t fall.

Stormbringer burst out laughing so hard she rolled onto the couch.

Even Frost Queen gasped. “…Impressive recovery.”

Wind Archer skidded to a dramatic stop by the kitchen.

“I… never again… will take you four flying,” he panted.

The children jumped off him, giggling, cheering, and clapping.

“We believe in you!” Zephira squealed.

“BEST RIDE EVER!” Thunder shouted.

“AGAIN!” Solstice yelled.

Wind Archer sat on the floor, wings crumpled, arms outstretched like a fallen soldier. “Absolutely not.”

Fire Spirit walked over with a bottle of water. “You looked beautiful up there.”

“Don’t.”

Stormbringer giggled. “The wind carried you, dude.”

“Silence.”

Frost Queen, calmly sipping her tea again, finally said:

“Well. At least we know he’s stable enough to raise his kids.”

Stormbringer SLAMS open the back doors, holding a GIANT tote bag full of paints, brushes, and canvas sheets.

“Kids I got you something to do!” she shouted, stepping barefoot onto the grass like a warrior entering battle.

Frost Queen looked up from her tea cup with a deep sigh. “Do I want to know what you’re doing?”

“ART. We’re doing art.” Stormbringer dramatically dumped the tote bag out in front of the kids like it was treasure.
“Because creativity is what keeps toddlers from turning into little bitches!”

Stormbringer clapped her hands and pointed at them all like a teacher on espresso.

“Here’s the plan,” she announced.

“You each get your own canvas.”

“Paint whatever you want—unless you paint Frost Queen. Then she will call the police.”

“Thunder, don’t eat the blue one. It’s not candy. It never is.”

“Frost Queen, help me tape the paper to the patio. I can’t do this alone—”

Frost Queen blinked. “You decided to host this.”
Stormbringer: “Well yeah, but I didn’t say I was doing it alone.”

emberis is a demon in disguise guys

After complete chaos and more paint on the grass than on the paper, Stormbringer clapped her hands dramatically like a show host about to reveal the final round of a reality show:

“ALRIGHT, MY LITTLE PICASSOS—TIME FOR OUR VERY FIRST ART COMPETITION!”

Wind Archer, from the corner, blinked in horror. “No. No. No, no—don’t you dare involve me.”

Stormbringer grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him to the patio stage.

“You’re the judge. You’re serious. You’re fair. You’re impossible to impress. You’re perfect.”

Wind Archer sighed. “I’m not judging toddler art.”

Fire Spirit, grinning while eating a fruit snack: “Yes you are.”

Stormbringer dramatically called each one up like they were runway models.

Zephira..

She stepped up with her canvas cradled like it was gold. It was a softly blended painting of a lake and sky, with little sparkles of glitter and tiny cloud blobs that resembled a dream.

“This is… a nice day,” she said proudly.

Wind Archer blinked.

“…It’s actually—really good?”

Wind Archer scribbled something in his notebook like a serious critic.

Emberis..

Emberis SLAMMED his canvas down like he was revealing the cursed book from a horror movie.

“This is my Demon Forest of Pain,” he said, smiling with paint on his nose.

It was black and red everywhere—tiny demon silhouettes in the background, with one suspiciously large scribble holding a pitchfork and labeled “YOU.”

Wind Archer: “…Is that supposed to be me?”

Emberis grinned and nodded.

Stormbringer whispered, “He’s going through his dark era. It’s normal.”

Solstice..

She proudly lifted up her canvas, completely smothered in neon paint and glitter glue. In the center: one giant flower, smiling with sunglasses on.

“This is Sunblossom, and she eats sadness.”

Wind Archer blinked again. “…Huh.”

Frost Queen behind him muttered: “I want that on a shirt.”

Thunder..

He proudly dropped his canvas on the table. “I DREW MOM!!”
Everyone turned to look.

Frost Queen had—glowing red eyes, a jagged mouth, claws, and literal fire surrounding her like she was the final boss in a video game.

Frost Queen stared at him. “…Thunder.”

Thunder smiled widely. “I LOVE YOU.”

Stormbringer was doubled over laughing. “It’s so TRUE though?? That’s exactly what she looks like when she tells him to brush his teeth.”

Frost Queen sighed and muttered, “You’re all banned from the backyard.”

Wind Archer stood stiffly with a clipboard while all the kids sat in a crooked little row on the grass, staring at him with wide eyes.

He cleared his throat.

“…Zephira’s had… actual technique. She gets the award for Best Art.”

Zephira gasped like she won an Oscar.

“…Solstice wins Best Smile Energy.”

Solstice screamed and fist-pumped.

“…Thunder wins Most… Creative Expression.”

Thunder held up the demon mom painting like a trophy.

“…And Emberis wins Most Likely to Scare His Future Teachers.”

Emberis grinned. “YEAH!!”

Stormbringer clapped wildly. “EVERYONE’S A WINNER! Even you, Judge Stiff-face!”

Wind Archer almost started crying on the spot. “You’re never making me do this again.”

Fire Spirit nudged him. “Oh yes we are. Next time it’s sculpting.”

Wind Archer nearly divorced him and went to live on a mountain. (DONT TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY HELP AHDJWJJ)

The sky outside had faded to a deep midnight blue, stars twinkling faintly through the large windows of Stormbringer’s spacious living room. The laughter and playful shrieks of the day had finally slowed, replaced by the gentle rustling of blankets and sleepy yawns.

Stormbringer stood by the doorway, a soft smile on her lips as she watched Wind Archer gently guide the two toddlers—Thunder and Solstice—and their little friends toward the cozy corner of the living room turned makeshift bedroom. Pillows and blankets were piled high, making a soft nest on the floor.

“Alright, little rascals,” Wind Archer said, his voice warm but tired. “Time for bed. Your lucky I’m letting Emberis and Zephira stay over.”

Thunder giggled and snuggled into Stormbringer’s arms while Solstice clutched a tiny plush sheep close to her chest. Emberis and Zephira were already curled up together, while the other kids gathered quietly, their eyes drooping.

Stormbringer pulled out a worn storybook from the shelf—a favorite from when she was young. The firelight from the fireplace cast flickering shadows across the room as she began to read in a gentle, soothing voice.

Wind Archer moved around, checking everyone’s blankets, tucking little hands in, and brushing down tousled hair. “You all killed me. You owe me.”

As the story wove through enchanted forests and daring heroes, the room grew quieter, each child’s eyelids fluttering shut.

Just before the last page, Stormbringer closed the book softly and whispered, “Goodnight, everyone.”

Wind Archer settled beside the children, smiling tiredly as the last breaths became even and calm. Outside, the world was still and peaceful, as if holding its breath for the next day’s adventures.

Stormbringer squeezed Wind Archer’s hand. “Thanks for helping. Couldn’t have done it without you.”

Wind Archer smiled back, eyes heavy but content. “Yeah okay. But I’m never coming back here again.”

Together, they quietly left the room, letting the children rest in the warm bubble of love and calm they’d created.
