Summary:

Lapis & Amber discuss their feelings regarding Silver and everything that has transpired.

Notes:

Yeah, I don't think I'm completing the full month of prompts, but I'll do what I can!

Chapter Text

It was nighttime already, and Amber the Tenrec took a small peek at her children's bedrooms to make sure they were asleep, which they were, before heading to bed herself.

Her position at one of the highest robotic companies in the city was nothing short of exhausting, so she'd definitely earned some rest.

Her wife, Lapis, looked like she was also out for the day. Her role was focused on photography, which allowed for more flexibility in her working hours, but nonetheless, a detailed job just the same.

Amber got comfortable on the sheets, ready to end the day, until a droopy voice spoke up.

“Hey, dear.”

Lapis wasn't asleep yet.

“Night, my diamond.”

“Everything okay in the bedroom region?” A little inside joke about Amber's job.

“Yeah, everyone is sleepy as always except for two of the members.”

They chuckled, finished their little meeting, and now they were finally settled to sleep, except that things weren't as they always were. They hadn't been for some time, actually.

“Lapis?”

“Yeah?” She turned around.

“How do you feel about all this?” Amber made it seem that it was a lot of things to consider, but they both knew they were only talking about one element, and that was the situation with Silver. It was hard to even explain what had happened. Silver said he would go for a short walk, and Gold wasn’t available to accompany him. He said he wouldn’t go too far, but then he took longer to return, and once he did, he was confused, and it was an odd reaction, but things never got better from that.

Silver’s story and subsequent confirmation were not an easy one to adapt to.

“It's hard,” was Lapis’ reply. “But it's also funny, isn't it?”

“How so?”

“He likes history, baking, how naive he can be at times, heh, he even said he wants to visit New Soleanna one day.”

Amber knew what she was trying to imply. There were many traits that remained; at some points, they even forgot that things were supposed to be different.

“Heh, yeah, I've seen it too.”

“He does love us, and he’s trying so hard to fit in, too.”

“Like always,” said Amber.

“Like always,” Lapis repeated, pondering on it. “Of course, he shouldn’t try to fit in within his family, but I think he’s simply trying to make it work.”

“And how about you?”

A good question, as Lapis paused for a few seconds to think about it.

“Just… slowly showing that he doesn’t need to fit in. Almost as he was when growing up, just more confusing now. Why do you ask this? How are you holding up?”

Amber was unsure how she felt most of the time when going through the motions of the day and the work; all her summary went into ‘Silver has faulty memories’ and not much else.

“I think I’m also trying not to be someone for my son’s sake,” was her answer

Lapis let out a soft sigh.

“I think that’s for the best,” she said. “And I think that’s what he needs, the parents he never had, as Gold explained.”

Amber knew Lapis was struggling too, but she was right, forcing or pressing the topic too hard would cause more harm to all of them instead… It had been a long day, and this was certainly a process that took time getting adapted to, but regardless, they both needed to rest.

“Good night, dear,” said Lapis, sharing a goodnight kiss.

“Night, my diamond.”
