Chapter Text
“I don’t know, mom. Is this the right time? Maybe I should wait until we're at the mountain, just the two of us. Chloe loves hiking. I should…”
Kate, starting to spiral, felt a reassuring hand land on her shoulder.
“Honey, I get it. You’re nervous. This is a big moment.”
The blonde was embarrassed. She had built herself up for tonight, and now her nerves were getting the better of her.
“If you’re not ready, you don’t have to do it. But Chloe’s a wonderful girl. And she loves you.”
“I know. I’m… no, you’re right. I can do this.”
Kate takes a deep breath.
“ Ok. I’m ready.”
“Good luck sweetie. Not that you need it.”
Kate walked up to Chloe, who was mid conversation with Joyce. Gathering up her strength, she reached out, her hand grabbing Chloe’s forearm.
“Oh hey, KatieKat! What’s up?”
“C… Can I talk to you?”
“Of course, what’s on your mind?”
“I…”
Kate glanced at Joyce, who winked at her, seemingly knowing exactly what she was about to do.
“We’ve been together for a while now. And you’ve been… perfect. Your cheeky smile, your infectious joy, the way you’re always there for me when I need you, I wouldn’t want to change a thing.”
Chloe looked on, brow furrowing, her brain starting to understand what was happening in front of her.
“Well, m-maybe one thing, actually.”
A bit more shakily than she’d have liked, Kate got down on one knee. She pulled out a small velvet box. Inside it sat a simple yet intricately designed ring, adorned with a bright Paraiba. Chloe’s playful attitude vanished in an instant, her hands grasping at her chest. Small tears were forming at the corner of her eyes.
“Kate… are you… is this…”
Now Kate could feel tears forming in her own eyes.
“If you had told me five years ago that I would wind up in a relationship with a blue haired girl who had nearly more tattoos than skin, I think I would have fainted on the spot.”
Chloe chuckled through her tears.
“You drew most of those for me…”
“I did. What I’m trying to say is… you were a surprise. When you entered my life, you changed everything. And I’m so grateful for that. You helped me figure out who I was. And I’d like to keep discovering myself. With you. Chloe Price, will you marry me?”
“Kate… Yes! Of course!”
Their parents erupted in cheers. Kate took Chloe’s hand, slipping the ring on her finger. A perfect fit, in more ways than one.
“I can’t believe you beat me to it! I always thought I’d be the one proposing.”
“Should’ve gotten off your ass Chlo.”
“Katie!”
