Chapter Five part III

I am walking home, exhausted, after my training. I could feel my feet drag while I walked.

Kim, was the captain of the Basketball Team and Tuesday and Thursday she is the one training us, simply because it wasn't on schedule. One of my teammates, Maria, explained to me that this was because last year they were third in the basketball championship. Due to that, Kim took the rails of the situation and added two more days of training which she would lead. I am impressed at her perseverance and her discipline.

She made the girls do their usual drills, while she taught me the basics. I was a bit rusty after only playing volleyball, but I think I picked the game rather quickly. My other teammate, Lucy, told me that Kim was being soft with me because of my wounds. I had a stunned face while I watched her and everyone  go home at five fifteen while Kim was still training me. She trained me until six forty five in a small corner of the gym, because it was the time of the male basketball club to use the gym.

All of the girls were nice, even after my messy start in the school which I appreciated and I tried my best because I knew how much Kim wanted to do great and teach me everything well, so even if I stayed later than everyone it was worth it, doesn't matter how much my muscles complain about it.

I shrug, lightly, suddenly embarrassed at the memories of Kim training me alone. It wasn't something so meaningful but when the men of the male basketball club enter the gym I was very aware of the presence of Castiel and more so when he screamed at Kim;

“Come on, Kim. Let her go, she will not learn everything in four hours!”

“I can try!” Kim had replied, but she let me go not long after that.

He had winked at me when I was leaving the gym and I could feel myself blushing. I faked composure and nodded, leaving as quickly as possible.

And that was my experience in the club.

While walking towards my home I decided to go to the mall and call Laeti to update her on everything that was going on.

She doesn’t respond.

I frown. It is no trouble, but I wanted to hear her voice and advice now. I wanted to talk to her about my first day after Ken left. I missed her today, after spending my time with Rosalya and the girls. She is my best friend after all, it is normal to miss her presence, but when she doesn't pick up I feel scared that she might be forgetting me.

I sigh.

I will call her later.

I decided to shop for sports clothes.

While I pass through the racks of clothes I can't help but think of everything that has happened. New school, I beat Castiel, I beat Amber, that thing with that so called peggy girl, I have made enemies and friends. My time in my new school has definitely brought me new experiences, that I probably would have lived if I stayed in my old school. Not in a bad or good way, just a fact, but in a strange way makes me excited of what uncertainty would come for the rest of years in this school.

How would I do next semester with my other clubs?

How will it go with making friends?

Before coming here I knew what to expect of my school life, but right now everything was mysterious, a new path opening to me.

Suddenly, a person's face crosses my mind.

Castiel, his advice really helped me to adapt sooner to the new school. He probably didn't think of me as a friend but I definitely did, after everything he said it would be difficult for me not to.

I try not to think about how my heart races after thinking of him, after thinking of today's occurrences.

I distract myself by simply paying for the sports clothes that I picked while I scanned to store.

After shopping I decided to buy a vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls and sprinkles. I walk to my home while eating it.

Maybe I should get more busy, find a job. Mom told me that in her pool they were hiring for a swimming instructor for children and elderly class, maybe I could do that. Maybe, I didn't have a crush and was simply enchanted by the roughness of the first handsome boy I saw in school.

In my other high school I was busy all the time, I have always been busy with extracurriculars just as theater, volleyball and cheer. I simply need to come back to my old routine and find things to do. And not just to take away from wherever my feelings might or not be for Castiel, but because I need to do something else. I feel my mind going crazy when I am staying still, if it wasn't for everything that happened the other week I would have gone insane.

The sun is already set when I am crossing the park, the moon very high in the sky, reminds me how deep in autumn we are, it is only seven after all!

The trees and the bushes give a spookier vibe to everything, making me feel a bit apprehensive. Maybe I should have come in the weekend. I try to walk as fast as I can scare that some man might do me harm when, suddenly, a dog is coming towards me

I am stone in my place, not knowing how to react, when the dog jumps straight at me.

I fall on top of my but and my shopping bag, my school bag, my sports pouch and, sadly, my ice cream fall on the floor with me.

I mop, but the dog soon starts licking my face and I start to laugh, trying to stop it. The dog was beautiful, very different to the annoying dog of the director, this one was a black doberman.

“Calm down boy,” I say while giggling, trying to push him away. “I don't think ice cream is good for you.”

He stops, looks at me and gives a little bark before licking my fingers.

My eyes start to wander trying to find the owner until I hear a voice that I recognize.

“Demon! Come back! Where are you?”

The voice was Castiel’s.

I sigh, this would only happen to me.

“He is here, Castiel!” I shout, calling him.

I see him pass through some trees, totally unrecognizable in a place like that. His leather jacket, chains and overall rock and roll attitude don't fit too well with nature, he sticks like a sore thumb. I guess, in a town like these, everywhere must feel like that for him. Either way, I can't help but feel as if he was a fairy prince from Neverland.

He frowns at me, probably weird out by the sight of me on the grass with his dog on top of me, surrounded by my shopping bags, my own bags and the ice cream on the floor.

“Didnt know you like kidnapping dogs, Princess,” he says with arms crossed looking down at me.

I roll my eyes at him.

“Are you blind, Castiel? Your dog is as rude as you are, he knocked me off!” I say, still laying on the floor with his dog on top of me while I caressed him. I knew it lost the effect of my complaint because I was actually enjoying the dog's presence.

“Yeah, but it seems you enjoy the rudeness a little bit.” He looks at me smirking.

I scoff. “Why don't you help me get up?”

He looks unsure, eyeing me with a smile. “What will I gain if I help you?”

I look at his dog on top of me and my tangled bags and sigh.

“I will tell Lysander that you didn't help me.”

“You wouldn’t,” he says, scared.

I smile. “Try me.”

He sighs and tells his dog to move, takes my hand and helps me to get up. I am shaking off the leaves of my dresser when I hear him urging through my clothes.

My head snaps at the sound.

“What are you doing?” I ask, mortified, remembering that I bought a black sports bra. Definitely not something for a boy to see.

He ignores my question and pulls out the black sports bra.

I quickly take it away from his hands and he smiles as the devil himself.

“Give me that, you pervert!”

I hastily pick my bags and put my things in order while he laughs behind me, his dog barks in my defence, at least that is how i feel it.

“Why buy one if you don’t need it?” He asks snickering by my side, trying to take my shopping bags out of my hands.

“I am still growing,” I growl, annoyed and embarrassed, trying not to look at his eyes. I simply look at our fighting hands. “Ugh, will you stop it?”

“I just want to look at what you bought.”

“As if I care, period head.”

He stops and his smile grows bigger. “Don’t you dare call me that, ironing board.”

My eyes grow wide. “You are done,” I say.

“Dog, attack Castiel. Bite his head,” I order his dog.

Castiel’s dog doesn't move, he simply looks at me expectant, as if I had a treat.

He laughs. “Do you really think that he would turn against me? His father?”

He kneels and pats him in the head. “He is loyal, only follows me, princess.”

I scoff. “Terrible manners, you throw me and my ice cream and now you don't defend me,” I said to the dog.

Castiel looks up at me. “Did he throw your ice cream?”

I nod. “With all of my things.”

“You can't be doing that, Demon. I raised you to attack bad people, not ice cream.”

I laugh internally at the sight of Castiel educating his dog.

“It seems I owe you an ice cream,” he says, standing up slowly.

I move my feet, suddenly nervous at his presence, the late hour and ur seemingly loneliness in the park.

I look up at him, pulling some strands of my hair behind my ear. “I guess so,” I say, pouting.

He is looking at me deeply. His eyes looked obsidian in the darkening day.

“I can buy you one now,” he says, with his hands in his pockets.

I start speaking, but I am interrupted by the vibration of my phone. I take out and see who is calling: Dad.

Nervousness passes through me.

“Give me a second, I have to pick this,” I say to Castiel.

I lower my head trying to hide my face from his view, his constant gaze piercing me.

“Sucrette, where are you?” He asks, with a tone that only a dad that is worried and trying to be strict does.

I close my eyes, knowing fully well where this conversation was going to go. “By the park, Dad.”

“Whats taking you so long?”

I wince. “I went to the mall to buy some clothes for the new club that I am going to, daddy,” I say, trying to appease him by acting childlike and avoiding a chat when I arrive home.

I hear Castiel scoff.

His voice softens. “You know that you have to tell me if you are going to arrive later than planned, little rabbit.”

“I know daddy, I am sorry.”

“It's no problem, come soon, dinner is ready and mum is arriving late.”

“I will dad. I love you,” I say.

“Love you, little rabbit.”

I hung up.

I look down at the grass, embarrassed.

“So, daddy?” Castiel says.

“Shut up.”

“Only if you call me daddy.”

I roll my eyes at him and push him. He laughs, doubling in half.

I pick my things and start walking away from him.

“Where are you going?” He asks, suddenly aware that I am leaving.

Away from you I think.

“Home,” I answered.

“Why?”

“Didn’t you hear? My dad called me telling me to come home,” I say.

He picks his pace and starts walking by my side. “I know. I will walk you home, it's getting dark.”

I stiffen, my breath a bit taken away. I am in shock.

“I mean I might be rude, but I am still a gentleman,” he says.

I laugh. “Then, chivalry is not completely dead.”

He laughs. “Not yet, at least.”

He walked me home after that, just me, Castiel, his dog and the stars in the sky lightening our way.

I smiled all the way home.
