December 1994- Dayton, Ohio
The little blonde pup looked around the church in confusion. She’d been excited when Mommy had picked out her pretty Christmas dress and had walked her and Natasha through town and into the church. They sat through the long drone of the old man in the stuffy robes and now she and Natasha sat waiting while Mommy lit two candles at the front and bowed her head. “‘Tasha? What’s Mommy doing?” she asked her sister. Natasha smiled softly and looked down at her.
“She’s praying ‘Lena,” she told her. Yelena tilted her head and looked back to her mother, curious as to why she was praying.
November 2028- NYC
Yelena rubbed Dimitri’s back as he shifted in her arms as he slept while she watched Kate. The monitors in the room let out a steady beep that reassured her that her mate was still alive. She continued to ignore the glares sent her way by the other alpha in the room. “The only reason you are even here is because of me, so I would think about changing your attitude,” the blonde grumbled softly. Eleanor scoffed.
“From what I understand, you left her with a pup for two years,” she said. Yelena sighed and looked at Eleanor. “That’s what gets me more than the fact my daughter spread her legs for a Black Widow,” the other alpha said. Yelena growled at her, baring her teeth at the older alpha.
“Do not speak of her like that,” she snarled. Eleanor chuckled.
“You seem awfully overprotective for someone who’s spent their life killing anyone she’s been pointed at,” she said, crossing her legs as she leaned back in her chair. Yelena glared at her. “Hard to believe that a weak little omega like Kate somehow managed to make it as a vigilante, manage the company, somehow manage being a single mother, and having you apparently wrapped around her finger,” she added. Yelena growled and glared at the woman.
“Kate is anything but weak,” she stated. “She has been through more than you could ever imagine, putting you behind bars was just the beginning of her pain. I admit I was a big part of that pain, but she pushed through and raised our pup until your old boss tried to get her out of the way,” she said. Eleanor looked at her in surprise.
“What?” she asked and Yelena scoffed, adjusting Dimitri on her shoulder.
“She was targeted by Mayor Fisk during his Safer Streets Initiative, only he didn’t detain her or put her on trial,” she told her. Eleanor shook her head and looked at her daughter. “I’m sure it was due to your actions and what Kate herself did that night that made him want her to disappear completely and quietly,” the blonde added. Eleanor just remained quiet now as they continued to watch over the omega. After a few more minutes Clint quietly entered the room and nudged the blonde.
“Go get some food, Yelena, I’ll watch them,” he told her, gesturing to Kate, Dimitri, and Eleanor. The woman sighed and nodded, standing up and passing Dimitri over to him. The pup whined softly and she gently shushed him.
“Возвращайся спать, Маленькая Воробышек, я просто пойду поем (Go back to sleep, Little Sparrow, I'm just going to eat),” she told him, kissing his head. The boy huffed softly and curled into Clint. Yelena then leaned over and kissed Kate’s head. “Я вернусь, Сладкая Омега, я пойду за едой и проверю Маленькое Солнце (I'll be back, Sweet Omega, I'm going to get food and check on Little Sunshine),” she told the omega before leaving the room. She was surprised to see her mother standing in the hall waiting for her.
“Come, there is a small cafe across the street,” Melina told her, gesturing for her to follow. The alpha just nodded and followed the beta. The two walked quietly.
“I saw the publicity post Valentina put out… It was nice of her to do that…” she muttered. Melina nodded.
“Your father and James have been keeping the press away from here,” she said. “And both teams have stepped up to make sure the city and the world is running smoothly,” she added, seeing her daughters shoulders relax slightly.
“I’m… sorry I’ve been distant the last few days, and that I’ve been snapping more than usual…” she said softly. Melina smiled and ran a hand through the younger woman’s blonde locks.
“There is no need to apologize, Маленький Альфа (Little Alpha),” she told her. Yelena nodded and looked down as she continued to silently follow the beta. They quickly got a table and ordered, Yelena ordering a to-go kids sandwich for Dimitri.
“Do you remember Ohio?” she asked quietly. Melina smiled and chuckled lightly.
“Which part?” she asked, looking at the alpha who was nervously picking at her nails.
“Christmas… ‘94,” she said softly, looking at her mother. “You dressed me and Natasha up in pretty clothes and took us to the church in town,” she added. Melina smiled softly and nodded.
“Many older Widows were taken from their families as children, my own mother was very religious and never allowed us to miss service,” she said. Yelena nodded and listened quietly. “When I kept getting cycled through the Red Room there was so many things about myself that I kept losing… The only thing I could always count on was my faith. Every mission I would pray I would make it through, and many times I would find a church,” Melina told her. Yelena nodded.
“Why did it take you so long in Ohio to go to one?” she asked softly as their food arrived. The beta sighed.
“Everything about that mission was complicated, and with Alexei’s skillsets I’d assumed the mission would be over in a matter of weeks. Then it stretched on and on… You and Natasha began to adjust into being normal children, I began to truly feel like your mother,” she said. Yelena paused her eating to listen. “I had begun to see what a life outside the Red Room could look like and didn't want to see you girls destroyed by it. That Christmas I prayed that you two wouldn’t be destroyed by Dreykov and you both would somehow find your way out,” she finished with a sad smile. Yelena nodded and put her hand over the beta’s.
“You did the best you could, Mama,” she said softly. “I didn’t understand anything back then, but to me you were the best Mama I could’ve ever asked for and everything you taught me in those short years in Ohio helped me survive everything after,” she told her. Melina smiled as tears came to her eyes as she squeezed Yelena’s hand. The two continued their meal before they headed back to the hospital where the alpha went to check on her daughter.
“She’s a strong little one, passed all her NICU tests,” the head nurse said. Yelena smiled down at the tiny pup in her arms.
“She gets it from her mother,” she said softly. The tiny baby looked up at her with familiar green eyes, her hair as dark as her mothers. The nurse smiled.
“I think it’s time she spent some time with family,” she told the blonde. Yelena looked at her in surprise and smiled over at Melina. She looked back at her daughter with a big smile.
“Do you wanna go meet your brother and see your Mommy?” she said with a smile. Melina smiled and thanked the nurse before the two walked back towards Kate’s room with the baby.
“Have you two thought of names?” the beta asked her. Yelena sighed softly.
“We thought of a few, but we never solidified anything,” she said softly. MElina nodded and the two quietly entered the room where Clint was quietly reading to Dimitri. “Where’s Eleanor?” the alpha asked. Clint looked up at her.
“Whatever you told her seemed to stick, she went to Val and requested to go back to Rikers only with the exception that she be kept in the loop about Kate,” he said. Yelena nodded and Dimitri looked up at her.
“Мама? Это моя маленькая сестрёнка? (Mama? Is that my little sister?),” he asked. Yelena smiled softly and knelt down, ushering him over. The boy came over slowly and looked down at the baby.
“This is your little sister,” she told him. “She’s smaller than other babies, so we need to be really careful with her,” she said. Dimitri nodded and looked down at his sister. He smiled softly.
“She wooks wike Mommy,” he said, looking up at his sire. Yelena smiled and nodded, kissing his head.
“And you looked just like Mama when you were born, Bubs…” a soft voice said from next to them. Everyone looked up and saw Kate tiredly looking around the room. Dimitri gasped and rushed over to the bed and Clint helped him crawl into it with her.
“Mommy!” he cried, burrowing into her arms. She smiled softly and kissed his head.
“Hi, Bubs,” she said softly, surrounding him in her comforting scent. Clint and Melina quietly excused themselves and Yelena came over with the baby. Kate looked up at her and smiled softly. The alpha chuckled slightly and leaned down to kiss her gently, broadcasting her joyful and relieved emotions through their bond.
“Do not scare me like this again, Kate Bishop,” she said softly. Kate smiled softly and purred slightly.
“I don’t intend to,” she said. Yelena smiled and the omega gasped softly as she heard the soft cry of her daughter. The alpha smiled softly and helped the omega sit up against her pillows before passing the baby over to her. The brunette smiled softly through her tears. “Hello, Little Sunshine,” she said softly. The baby cooed softly and reached out, patting her mother’s cheek.
“She passed all their checks in the NICU,” Yelena said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “She’s just as strong as you are, Моя любовь (My Love),” she said softly. Kate blushed lightly and leaned into her mate who put her arm around all three of them. Kate was silent for a few moments before she spoke.
“Natalia,” she said softly. Yelena looked at her in surprise. “Just like we talked about,” she added with a smile. The alpha smiled with tears in her eyes and nodded, kissing her head.
“It’s perfect, Моя любовь (My Love),” she said softly. Melina and Clint returned to the room with Laura and Alexei who looked immensely relieved to see the omega awake. Kate smiled softly at them.
“Sorry for scaring you guys… ‘Tali just couldn’t wait any longer to meet everyone I guess,” she said. Everyone looked at her and Yelena curiously at the mention of the name for the pup.
“‘Tali?” Alexei asked. Yelena smiled softly at her parents as Kate handed her the baby. Yelena took her and walked over to Melina with a smile.
“Everyone, meet Natalia Melinanovna Belova-Bishop,” she said. The beta looked up at her in surprise.
“I understand Natasha, but naming her after me?” she asked. Yelena smiled and passed her daughter to her mother who hesitantly took the tiny newborn that bore her name.
“Kate and I agreed… I would not be who I am today without both you and Natasha,” she told her. Melina smiled softly and looked down at the tiny pup in her arms.
“She is beautiful and strong, just like her mothers,” she said. Kate and Yelena smiled softly and enjoyed the company of their family.
December 2028- Watchtower
“So, you’re all from another universe and you spent the last few years playing a happy ending?” the blonde alpha asked those gathered. The blonde omega across the room nodded.
“Pretty much,” she said. “Also the fact that your universe is on a collision course with two other universes,” she added.
“How long do we have?” Sam Wilson asked. The beta next to the omega shrugged.
“Each universe is different so each set of equations is different. I can only speak on how long it will be for 838, the other two are unknown,” he said.
“So? We just get our best on figuring it out, problem solved,” John said. Everyone looked at him. “What?” he asked.
“Our best died fighting Thanos and no one knows where Bruce is,” Sam said.
“What about Spider-boy?” Alexei said. Yelena rolled her eyes.
“We are not calling in children,” she said. The other New Avengers shared a look and gave a warning growl. “Нет (No), I am not calling her to bring her team in. It’s only been a month since Natalia was born,” she told them. The other gathered heroes looked confused.
“Sorry, what are you talking about,” Thor asked.
“The Champions,” said Bucky. Both Scott and Sam looked at him in surprise.
“You want to call in children to try and figure out when the world is supposed to end?” Sam asked.
“Cassie knows Quantum Physics, Harley was a prodigy under Stark,” Ava said before looking at Yelena. “Plus, Kate was the one to detect their ship crossing dimensions,” she added. Yelena growled softly and the man standing at the front with the mask spoke up.
“If you have many people able to calculate this catastrophe, then you must call them in,” he said. “If we cannot stop this, then all we know and love will be destroyed,” he added. Yelena clenched her jaw, trying to stay calm. Bob put his hand on her shoulder.
“I know you want to protect them, but if we don’t use every tool we have, then we could risk losing this fight,” he told her. The alpha sighed, knowing he was right.
“Fine, I’ll call in the Champions,” she grumbled, storming off. She knew that the others were watching her leave in worry. She sighed and pulled out her phone when she was in a secluded area of the Watchtower. It only rang once before Kate picked up, she could hear Tali fussing in the background.
“Hey, Детка (Babe), what’s up?” the omega asked through the phone. Yelena sighed and rubbed a hand over her face.
“We need yours and the Champions help,” she said before she could stop herself. She could feel the omega’s worry through their bond.
“What’s going on?” Kate asked her, already moving around to get ready while softly telling Dimitri to get ready. The alpha sighed.
“That signal you picked up was an interdimensional signal and apparently our world is on a collision course with at least two other dimensions,” she explained. She heard Kate pause on the other end as she processed what her mate had told her.
“And you need the Champions to help figure out when that’s supposed to happen?” she asked her. Yelena sighed and Kate could feel the hesitance through their bond. “‘Lena, I know you want to protect us but this seems like a 2012, Ultron, or Thanos type thing,” she told her. Yelena rubbed her face again with a grumble.
“Unless absolutely necessary I want you to stay in the lab, for my own peace of mind, Любовь (Love),” she told her. Kate chuckled as she packed up her gear.
“If you’re in danger I’m not going to just sit by and watch,” she told her. Yelena smiled slightly.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less, Маленький Ястреб (Little Hawk),” she said. “I’ll see you and the Champions in a little bit?” she added.
“Billy and America are already gathering everyone and I’m finishing up getting Dim and Tali ready,” she told her. Yelena nodded and ended the call. She saw Bucky down the hall and nodded at him before coming over to him.
“So, Sam and Scott are completely against bringing the Champions in,” he said. She nodded.
“Sam hasn’t met them so he doesn’t understand their skills, and Lang just doesn’t want his daughter involved,” she said. Bucky nodded.
“I think he’s calling Barton, so between him and Kate we’ve got sharp shooting covered at least,” he added. Yelena smiled and nodded.
“While I know she won’t be in the field much, Kate’s still going to train with her team,” she said. Bucky nodded and they both began making their way back to the common area.
“Be honest, do you think any of us are ready for this?” he asked her. The alpha sighed and shrugged.
“Natasha and the others were never ready for anything that was thrown at them,” she said. She sighed and looked out the windows at the city. “But they always knew what they were fighting for, and that was enough for them to always come out on top. I know what I’m fighting for this time, my only question to you, Barnes, is do you know what you’re fighting for?” she asked him, looking up at the Winter Soldier. The man chuckled, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
“I used to just go through the motions, but then I saw Steph and learned about her situation and took the leap to take her in… now I understand what you’re fighting for too,” he told her. Yelena nodded.
“Remember our promises, Bucky,” she said. The beta smiled and nudged her shoulders.
“Don’t worry, Маленькая вдова (Little Widow),” he said. “If anything happens to you and Kate, I’ll take care of Dimitri and Natalia,” he told her. She nodded.
“And should something happen to you, Kate and I will make sure Stephanie is taken care of,” she told him as they entered the common area. The alpha was surprised at first as a tiny weight slammed into her before she smiled and scooped her son up.
“Mama!” he cried excitedly. “Mommy said you needed help,” he added. Yelena smiled and looked at her mate who was bouncing a fussing Tali on her hip.
“We do need help, but I also wanted to see you and your sister,” she told him with a smile. She wrapped Kate up in a side hug as the archer came over.
“Some of them look surprised to see Dim and Tali,” the omega said softly.
“It didn’t really come up in the conversation,” she told her. Kate nodded and gestured to the screen at the other end of the room.
“Is that what we’re dealing with,” she asked. Yelena nodded and the two walked over to where Reed and Victor were speaking quietly with Susan, Johnny, Ben, and Franklin nearby.
“These are the three other universes apparently on a collision course with ours,” she told her. She gestured to the numbered Earth. “You were able to help us detect the frequency of their Earth numbered 838,” she explained. She smiled softly when Dimitri waved at Franklin.
“You were the one who picked up our frequency?” Victor asked, surprising the omega. Reed looked at her as well.
“Oh, um, yeah,” she said with a blush.
“They say you are an archer?” he asked her. The omega shifted the pup in her arms and smiled.
“I am an archer, yes,” she said. “But I also run a Security Company so frequencies are kind of my forte,” she added. Reed chimed in.
“They said that you and your other team members can possibly help us figure out how much time we may have until an incursion?” he asked her. Kate shrugged, rubbing Natalia’s back as she curled into her with a huff.
“I have experience in sorting through different frequencies, Cassie knows Quantum Physics, Kamala has experience with space jump frequencies, America’s powers revolve around Multiversal travel, Harley was a protege to Tony Stark, and Billy and Tommy have experience with Chaos Magic,” she explained, gesturing to each member as they all grouped up to talk about everything. Yelena noticed how Victor looked at each Champion and noticed how he looked nervous, she also saw Susan observing the same thing. Reed somewhat relaxed and smiled slightly.
“And they wanted to keep all of you away from helping us?” Johnny asked from next to his sister. Kate smiled.
“One, many of my team are still just teenagers,” she said, sighing slightly as she heard Billy and Tommy arguing. “And two, Yelena is very protective of us three. I know it wasn’t easy for you to call me, Дорогая (Babe),” she added, smiling at her mate. Yelena just rolled her eyes with a grumble and Susan smiled.
“Reed was willing to try anything, including sacrificing himself when Galactus wanted Franklin,” she said, adjusting the boy on her hip.
“He was a devourer of worlds who wanted Franklin to succeed him because apparently Frankie has cosmic powers even stronger than ours,” Johnny said, taking his nephew from his sister and tossing him in the air. Franklin laughed and snuggled into the alpha. Yelena and Kate smiled at the two before the other alpha spoke.
“Well, it seems that we have the right people here now to help prevent something as long as someone can stay put in the lab like she’s told,” she said, giving Kate a pointed look. The omega rolled her eyes with a smile.
“You know my standing on that, Дорогой Альфа (Dear Alpha),” she told her, kissing her cheek. Yelena smiled and chuckled as the omega moved over to meet with her team. Maybe they could actually pull off some sort of miracle.
