Problem Child

Chapter 10: Chapter Nine: USJ

Notes:

Author Notes: Finally managed to write this chapter. It was a pain trying to figure out what I was going to do. Plus I’m pretty bad at fight scenes. Anyways this is the end of arc one, and I will be not posting the next arc for awhile. Instead Willing Transfer's first arc will be replacing this update slot.

Chapter Text

They drove home in silence, each going over all the information they had just been given. Shota sat on the couch, followed by his husband who flopped down onto it. “Time Travel.”

“Yes.”

“You time traveled.”

“My future self did.”

“What. The. Fuck,” Hizashi flatly said, shaking his head.

“Do you believe him?” Shota questioned his husband.

“I think it’s more do you believe him, since he is claiming to be your future self.”

Shota huffed, that was the question... if he believed ‘Midoriya’ or not. And now he had to figure out how to think of the problem child, though he supposed it was simplest just to keep thinking of the kid… adult in kids body(?) as Midoriya. “That string of numbers he listed… it’s a code I created in case I fought against someone with a mind reading quirk, not only did he know it, but he knew the purpose of it, yet I never told anyone about it. Then there is the fact that he knew what plans I had.”

“Are we following his plan?”

“Yes, if there really is a threat to my class, then it’s best to keep them out of it.”

“But, shouldn’t we keep Midoriya out of it as well? He may be you from the future, but he’s still in a kids body.”

Shota stared at Hizashi flatly.

“Right, stupid question, this is you we are talking about after all, even when injured you don’t stop working.”

“After the attack we should ask him why Mineta turned traitor. There is perhaps a chance we can prevent him from turning traitor,” Hizashi continued after a moment of silence.

Shota’s lip twisted down, “If I thought he could be redeemed, then I would have been working on that, not going out of my way to hurt him. He wasn’t just a traitor though, he raped one of his classmates.”

“Sho, you may be rational, but we both know that you wouldn’t be rational in the face of my death. Your future self isn’t thinking rationally about Mineta, you need to. There might have been a reason, like Mineta could have been threatened. We need to find out all the details we can.”

“Fine, we’ll ask him, but depending on why Mineta betrayed the class then he will get expelled.”

“Speaking of the class though, it seems like you grew quite fond of them.”

Shota nodded, remembering the look on Midoriya’s face when he spoke of his class, he had been proud of them, and Shota recognized the love in Midoriya’s eyes, if the kid was truly him, then apparently Shota had grown, would grow, to love the class as if they were his own kids.

“I’m going to go on patrol now, that way I can return early,” Shota told Hizashi, who nodded.

“Take care.”

“I will.”

Shota knocked on Thirteen’s office. “Come in!”

He entered the room, “Senpai, do you need something?”

Shota nodded, “I heard rumors of a possible attack here, I figured we should move the students to your smaller research center for today.”

“Really?”

“It’s a logical assumption that the media incident yesterday was a cover from a villain getting into the school. If that is the case they could have gotten the schedule. I doubt they would attack U.A. itself, which means they would attack a class that wasn’t directly on campus.”

“And given that 1-A is the only class that is set to be on field, if they want to make a statement, it would be at USJ,” Thirteen continued for him, bobbing their head gear as a nod. “Very well. We can use my city block simulation for today.”

“I plan on investigating USJ with All Might and Mic, if villains do show up then we can apprehend them.”

“I understand. Classes should be starting soon, so I will make the necessary arrangements in time for this afternoon.”

Shota nodded and left the room heading towards his homeroom class. Nezu sent him a text saying that Midoriya had called in sick, running a fever.

The school day passed by and soon it was the start of his afternoon lesson. “Now for today’s basic hero training… this time you will be learning from Thirteen. It will be rescue training, Thirteen will help prepare you for disaster relief, focusing on cities today, but there will be more lessons covering fires, floods, earthquakes and other such disasters.”

Kaminari grinned, “Rescue, huh… sounds like another rough day.”

“Right!” Ashido agreed.

Kirishima laughed, “Come on, this is what being a hero’s all about! I’m pumped!”

“Hey. I’m not done,” Shota said, glaring at them. “It’s up to each of you whether or not you wear your costumes. As some of them are ill-suited to this sort of activity.”

At least with the changed location they wouldn’t have to bother getting on the bus, Thirteen would just be using the city block section that was modified to simulate disasters.

“Sensei, is it just Thirteen and you?” Uraraka questioned.

“It is just Thirteen.”

“Oh.”

“Go ahead and get changed,” Shota told them, standing up and walking out of the room ahead of them.

He headed towards the on campus atv’s. Arriving, he found Hizashi waiting for him by one of the vehicles, “You ready?”

Shota nodded.

The two drove to the building, and arrived to see All Might and Midoriya waiting.

Midoriya had his hero outfit on, silver goggles resting atop his head. And Shota assumed his mask was underneath the capture weapon.

“Alright, like I said, we can expect a lot of small fry, which you and Yamada-sensei can take care of, Toshinori will deal with the Nomu, and I will face off against Kurogiri and Shigaraki until All Might beats the Nomu.”

Shota nodded.

“Sounds like a plan, do you have a hero name picked out that we should call you? In case any of the villains escape, you probably don’t want them knowing your real name.”

Midoriya scoffed, “They would just watch the sports festival to find out.”

“So that would be a no,” Hizashi said.

Shota frowned, if the villains did escape he would have to cover hero names before the sports festival, that way his class would have a measure of protection. “We’ll do Hero names before then.”

“Let me guess, you haven’t figured out a name,” Hizashi said, giving a smug grin at Midoriya.

The kid grumbled and nodded, “It’s not like I’m going to use my problem child’s hero name of Deku.”

Deku? As in useless? Why would a kid ever feel the need to have that as their hero name? Didn’t that Bakugo kid call Midoriya by Deku actually? Looks like he had another question to ask Midoriya.

“Well, how about Nullify: The Neutralizing Hero?”

Midoriya shrugged, “Sure.”

“Alright then Null!” Hizashi cheered, giving a thumbs up, even as he shortened the already short name.

Midoriya just sighed, but his green eyes held a fondness, and a sadness. Shota had a feeling that his future self was thinking about the Hizashi he had lost.

“We should go inside now,” All Might suggested and they went into the building.

They went inside and started the wait, Hizashi taking this moment to give them each headphones that would block out the sounds of his voice enhanced quirk, but still allow communication. With the headphones on, Hizashi didn’t have to be careful about where he aimed his quirk.

The time passing by slowly as minutes dragged on. Shota glanced at Midoriya, who was staring at the fountain, he followed the kids gaze and a moment later a ripple appeared, slowly spreading and a face covered with a hand made itself visible.

“The portal is Kurogiri’s quirk, the guy with the hand on his face is Shigaraki, and the giant black creature with the exposed brain is the Nomu,” Midoriya quietly informed, his voice coming through the headphones easily..

“Eraserhead… and All Might…” the mist man said. “How strange, I thought Thirteen was supposed to join you, not Present Mic, and why only one kid?”

Both Shota and Midoriya put on their goggles. With Midoriya also adding his lower face guard. “Doesn’t matter, All Might is here.”

Shota and Hizashi exchanged looks, and then they both looked over at All Might and Midoriy, who looked back and nodded.

All Might and Midoriya jumped towards the center, All Might in one jump, Midoriya with several smaller leaps.

“Let's get this party started, YEAH!” Hizashi said, shouting the last bit with his quirk. Though thanks to the headphones he didn’t have to worry about ear damage.

The first wave of villains were blown back, others covering their ears in pain. Shota jumped down into the fray, using his capture weapon to knock the stunned enemies out.

As Midoriya had said, these were nothing more than small-time villains, easy to deal with, though it was surprising just how man had been gathered up. The warp villain was bringing in more of them almost as fast as Shota was taking them out, these ones with quirks that were better suited for other areas of the USJ. So the villain must have spread them out, probably planning to scatter his students amongst them.

Izuku arrived in the central plaza of USJ a few seconds behind All Might, who was already fighting the Nomu, aiming his punches at the creature's brain. While it had regeneration and shock absorption, if All Might was able to obliterate it’s brain in one punch, then he would beat the creature quicker.

“Trying to play hero kid?”

Izuku debated whether to respond or not, he didn’t want to give away to the villains that they knew of the attack, that he had information on them. They might figure it out, but he wasn’t going to tell them.

“No. It’s logical to keep you busy though while All Might deals with the other villain,” he instead chose as his response.

“You think a noob like you can face off against a high level character like me?”

And Shigaraki was back to making Video game references, “I think you’ll find I’m the hidden boss,” Izuku said, grabbing his scarf and initiating the attack with OFA active. As he got closer he activated Erasure, keeping Shigaraki from using his quirk when the man dodged his capture weapon.

As if mimicking his first fight with Shigaraki, he went to elbow the guy, and the villain grabbed his elbow, looking surprised when he found he couldn’t use his quirk and that Izuku easily broke free of his grasp, “I should have guessed… you’re Eraserhead’s kid…. So coooool,” Shigaraki said, with what almost looked to be genuine awe.

“Your dad really is amazing, kid.”

Izuku rolled his eyes, though he couldn’t exactly blame Shigaraki for assuming Aizawa was his dad. He wasn’t going to bother correcting Shigaraki on it either. The two started circling each other, and Izuku kept Erasure deactivated for now. Like in his original body, overusing his quirk would shorten the amount of time he used it, though luckily he didn’t have to continuously look, as their quirk would remain canceled for a second after he looked away.

“Still, just canceling out quirks is nothing special against super strength, if your dad went against my Nomu, he would lose. It would be as if he was totally quirkless .”

Izuku scowled, though it was hidden in the face guard, before that word hadn’t bothered him, but now… he remembered being powerless against those with strong quirks. The struggle of just going to school everyday when everyone avoided him, or even bullied him just for his lack of a quirk.

“At least he would try, you would just hide away behind someone else like a coward,” Izuku paused briefly, staring Shigaraki in the eyes, though he knew the villain wouldn’t see it, “That’s what you’re doing now after all.”

It was at this time that Kurogiri warped over, “Shigaraki, Eraserhead and Present Mic are currently busy fighting, but they will probably defeat the rest within another five to ten minutes, has the Nomu killed All Might yet?”

Shigaraki turned his head, looking towards where the Nomu and All Might had been fighting, just in time to see All Might destroy the creature's brain with a powerful punch. “No faaaaaair~” Shigaraki whined.

“I think it’s best if we make our escape now,” Kurogiri said.

“You’re not escaping on my watch,” Izuku said, quirk activated as he grabbed Shigaraki’s arm and yanked him away from the portal that Kurogiri had opened.

“All Might, aim for the brace!” Izuku called out as All Might came towards them. At the same time he used his capture weapon and bound Shigaraki’s hands to his sides, not leaving any wiggle room for the villain to get five of his fingers on the cloth.

The hero nodded and aimed one of his punches at Kurogiri, calling out, “Detroit Smash!”

Kurogiri warped away.

And didn’t show back up.

Another minute passed and Aizawa and Yamada walked over, Aizawa pulling out a roll of duct tape and he taped Shigaraki’s hands to prevent him from using his quirk. Yamada pulling out his phone and calling the police. Shigaraki huffed, “Level Failed it seems.”

Izuku rather hoped it was a game over, but.. Kurogiri had escaped.

“I do have to say Eraserhead, your son is pretty cool as well.”

Aizawa just sighed, “He’s a problem child is what he is.”

Izuku snorted, “Fair.”

“The police will be here in a few minutes.”

“Get out of here, we’ll take care of the clean up,” Aizawa said.

He nodded and walked out of the building, heading back home. As he was walking his phone buzzed.

Looking down at it he noticed a text message from a familiar number.

[I think it’s time we had a chat.]

There was no name, but Izuku recognized the number from his past life. He really had expected the message to come a lot sooner though.

[Tomorrow, during lunch.]

Izuku sent back, not wanting to have that conversation right now. With that he continued on to his home.
