My timeline:
Varian puts out a call for magic users
Pip is getting bullied. Varian stands up for him. Zahn Tiri sees Varian’s revenge side when he stands up for pip… does she like him?
Zahn Tiri agrees to help explain magic items if they both look for the stones (Varian agrees though doesn’t want to use their power just wants to find and protect them)
Zahn Tiri tries to get Varian to fall for her using mind link and fails. She realized Varian will never be hers and she flees. (the stone in the center can’t take the strain. She adds it to her head piece to help her minipulate others and to de-power the wand so hypothetically Varian can’t use it)
She turns on him and vows revenge making the snow storm with her powers the emotions tonic is added to the spell to make it extra crazy. (which only affects you once. Varian has already felt it’s affects which is why he was so emotionally unstable in Queen for a day)
Varian (finally realizing Zahn Tiri’s identity when they mind link) builds the Demanitus device to blow the storm out and creates a device to keep Zahn Tiri banished. (Built by syphoning the power out of the other realm and creating a barrier)
He realizes that the device won’t hold forever and takes four apprentices (1 is Pip, the last is Mother Gothal young) in the hopes of building a second generation to keep up the fight against evil when he goes home.
He researches the sun drop and moon stone (with his apprentices) making the scroll (he “helps” his pupils search for the stones but he actually keeps them from finding them) (this is also where he creates his language he has trust issues now…)
The apprentices realizing Varian does t trust them get suspicious. Zahn Tiri whispers to them in their dreams with promises of power if they help her return
They apprentices become wise to the fact that Varian isn’t actually helping and (no longer trusting him, and hungry for power) they turn against him (minus Pip who tries to warn Varian) and break the device that keeps Zahn Tiri away. (Taking the power from the other realm for themselves causing them to become spirits of evil officially corrupting them)
Varian rewires the device to steal some energy from the spirits that could run the demanitus device once charged (but it would take a hundred years to fully change)
in the chaos Zahn Tiri returns to Corona and starts searching for the stones. She enlists the wicked spirits to distract Varian and cause havoc while she searches. (As spirits of evil they are bound to her will)
Varian and Pip begin hunting down the spirits of chaos (they feel responsible for them)
They track one apprentice to the house of mysteries. He became the spirit of Tromus dreams and (on the promise of more power in the real world) Varian tricks him into binding his powers to the house alone. He steps outside and he withers.
Another apprentice became the spirit of Sugrasha the eternal and Pip (using Varians plan) forced the remainder of her powers to the staff she carried and making it so only those who want her control could be controlled. And then Varian locks her up (unable to kill or fully bind her) but she breaks out
The third apprentice (mother Gothal) became the spirit of vanity. (She was clearly obsessed with only herself.) Varian (using an enchanted mirror) tricked her into drinking a potion that would rob her of her magic (she thought it was an ageless potion) and seeing her rendered powerless banished her from the kingdom. (He never finds out her identity)
Varian started creating the plans for the portal for Zahn Tiri. Varian (realizing he needs to trust someone) tells his story to Pip (time travel and all) and explains that he found the correct stone for the wand of Oblivion right before the apprentices turned on him. The wand would allow him to return home, but that he feels responsible to stop Zahn Tiri and make sure the other spirits don’t come back.
Pip explains that it’s not Varians fault, he can’t blame himself. And that Varian shouldn’t give up his life for the expectation of others. Or to live up to the past. He uses the wand to send Varian back to his time. (Varian didn’t get a choice here)
Pip finishes the plans Varian started and traps Zahn Tiri (this is the scene in the show finale) and then takes steps to hide the scroll.
Varian, returned to the present plays dumb. Until he finds the book of Demanitus. And he seems sad. He realizes that Pip continued on in his name (using the cloak that allows you to change your form)
The show plays out how we see it. With scenes added (explaining how Cass and Raps have so much time in the tower) varian admits everything to distract Zahn Tiri and keep his friends safe.
Set After the end of the show varian shows Raps the book which has a note from Pip in the last page explaining how he did it, and his intention to swap places with the monkey(Damnitus) we met earlier in the show. Varian cries over his lost and good friend.
Raps hunts through the histories for notes of Demanitis and his apprentices. She gets secretive for a long while. Brings varian to the castle where she made a mural for him and his friends from the past. (She found their discriptions in the histories) (she also finds out that, mostly, everyone lived happily ever after. Varian vows to keep protecting Corona in the name of his friends past and present. Raps names him her advisor and royal engineer.
