Chapter Text
Izuku stared at the two white-haired little boys with a mixture of consternation and amusement. “Your names are Hisashi and Yoichi Shigaraki?”
The older boy snorted. “That’s what I said. Are you slow?”
Amusement won out. Izuku laughed. “Oh, Dad is going to love meeting you.” He spoke sarcastically—his father wouldn’t at all enjoy being on the receiving end of his own asshole personality, but Izuku would certainly enjoy watching it.
Yoichi clutched Hisashi’s shirt. “Big brother, I’m scared.”
Izuku turned a gentler smile on the younger boy. “Don’t worry, I’ll take you to my dad and he’ll look after you.” His father had often spoken wistfully of his Uncle Yoichi, who’d been taken hostage by terrorists and murdered at a young age. Dad would be so happy to see this younger version of his brother who’d traveled through time.
When the robber had first attacked the grocery store, Izuku hadn’t intended to interfere. The weak would only stagnate further if he coddled them. However, the robber had made the mistake of waving his gun in Izuku’s face, so Izuku had melted his bones. Smoke still rose off the corpse, filling the store with the smell of charred flesh. A girl and an old lady had hit him with a quirk, then ran off when he snapped at them. Now he wished he’d kept them around long enough to demand an explanation of how their quirks worked, and perhaps take them back to the lab.
Hisashi pushed Yoichi behind him. “We’re not stupid enough to follow a stranger home.” His gaze flickered to the boneless pile of robber. He did not react besides a slight tension in his shoulders.
“Oh? Was I giving you a choice?” Izuku smiled and giggled in a way that made professional heroes wet themselves.
Admittedly, his smile couldn’t be seen behind the black mask he’d donned before fighting. But the laugh alone usually did it.
Hisashi only glared, unimpressed. He whispered, “Yoichi, run on my mark.”
The police crashed through the grocery store door. “All or Nothing! Don’t move or we’ll shoot!”
Izuku was a little impressed with how the lead officer kept his hands steady despite the tremble in his voice. Brave, but not too intelligent. They knew his reputation. They ought to know how easily he could kill them all. The dozen quirks his father had given him hummed under his skin.
But instead, Izuku saw an opportunity. He said, “The police are here to kill me for my metapower. They’ll kill you both too, because you have white hair.” Based on his father’s stories about the dawn of the age of quirks, he knew this lie would seem quite plausible to the two time-traveling brothers. “Come with me if you want to live.”
Hisashi’s mouth flattened into a thin line. He gave a small nod. “Fine.”
Izuku scooped up both brothers, one under each arm. The police held their fire, terrified to hurt the children. Using a combination of Spring Legs and Weightlessness, Izuku leapt over their heads and bounded across the sky.
Yoichi clapped and giggled while Hisashi clung on for dear life and shouted several bad words he shouldn’t know at his age.
Hisashi stared at the metal walls. “We’ve been kidnapped be a nutcase, little brother.”
Yoichi lounged on a beanbag chair, reading a comic book. “Izuku already explained everything to us. This is a safe room, big brother. We need to stay here until Izuku’s dad returns home, then he’ll help us hide from the police.”
“But we’re locked inside a bank vault.” Hisashi rapped on the metal door. “You have to admit that’s strange. What kind of demented mind thought it would be a good idea to put people inside a bank vault? Whoever would do something like that must be stupid, mentally unstable, or both.”
“I think it’s a cool way to disguise your saferoom.” Yoichi turned a page. “Shhh, I have a hundred years worth of manga to catch up on.”
Hisashi rolled his eyes. “You would be fine with being kidnapped as long as someone put comic books inside your cell.” He scowled and examined the door again. It didn’t have a handle or a lock on the inside. There was no mechanism to pick in order to escape. “I’m bored.”
“Uh-huh,” Yoichi said, turning another page.
Hisashi raised his eyes to the metal ceiling. “Who would have thought that kidnapping would be so boring? I almost wish that someone would show up to torture me.”
The metal door decayed away. A massive, muscled man with yellow hair tufts stood staring at the two children.
“I said almost,” Hisashi squeaked.
The stranger whispered, “I couldn’t wait for big brother to get home. I had to see if it was true.” Then he rushed forward and crushed Hisashi into a hug. “It’s a small brother! You’re so adorable and precious! From now on, you can call me Uncle Toshinori.”
“I will not!” Hisashi struggled. “Get your hands off me, you oaf! Little brother, help!”
Yoichi ran forward. “Let him go!” He tried to bite the muscled arm.
Before he could, Toshinori easily swept the younger one into the hug. “I love you, too!” He held both brothers so tightly to his chest that they could barely breathe. “We’re going to be family from now on.”
Yoichi thrashed. “Hey! Izuku promised that once the police stopped searching for us, we could leave.”
“Leave?” Toshinori turned burning blue eyes on the boy. The shadows consumed his face. His mouth quirked into what certainly wasn’t a smile. “Big brother taught me that family never leaves you.”
Going limp, Yoichi hissed out of the corner of his mouth, “Fine, big brother, you were right. We’ve been kidnapped.”
When Izuku’s father had first arrived home, he hadn’t believed a word of it, insisting this was an unfunny prank. Having anticipated this reaction, Izuku had handed over his phone with a picture he’d taken of the two brothers.
All for One had turned completely pale. With a slight “oh” he’d collapsed onto the couch. Then he hadn’t spoken another word. It had worried Izuku so much that he’d run to fetch his Uncle Toshinori.
Now Toshinori knelt down before the couch and said in a gentle voice, “Even good news can be overwhelming, I know.”
“Good news? It’s wonderful news!” A small tear trickled down All for One’s cheek. He hastily dashed it away. (Izuku averted his eyes, assuming his father wouldn’t want him to see.) “I have to…I have to go and see Yoichi at once…preferably without the other one.”
Toshinori frowned. “It will probably upset the brothers if you try to separate them.”
“Yes, I know,” All for One said irritably. “That’s why I’m trying to think of an excuse. I’m still not sure what to do with the younger me.”
“Adopt him into the family, of course,” Toshinori said.
“It’s not that easy,” All for One said. “Another me could be a threat.”
“Anyone as talented and smart as you could be a valuable ally,” Toshinori said. “He’s young. You can win him over. I’m sure no one understands how he thinks as well as you.”
All for One muttered something that sounded suspiciously like not wanting to share.
Toshinori said, “If you don’t want to adopt him, then I will.” Steel lurked behind the words.
All for One pinched his forehead. “Are you sure you don’t want another new quirk?”
Uncle Toshinori had a rare body that could handle multiple quirks, although not as many as Izuku or All for One. Dad always said that just proved he’d been meant to be family.
Toshinori pointed at the phone picture of Hisashi. “Could you possibly reject that cute face?”
“Yes,” All for One said flatly.
Toshinori gazed upward imploringly. “Please, big brother?”
All for One’s eyes softened. Toshinori could get just about any favor from the villain by asking like that, although Izuku didn’t think his uncle did it on purpose.
Conversely, Izuku knew full well the power his puppy eyes had over his father, and he agreed with his uncle on this one. Pouting adorably, he said, “Please, dad. I want two new little brothers.”
“Oh, fine.” All for One waved his hand. “Don’t blame me if he turns out to be more trouble than he’s worth.”
“You could never be,” Toshinori said with such total sincerity that it made All for One smile again.
Hisashi glared at the white-haired man who’d been revealed as his older self. The villain clung to Yoichi and sobbed. “Is he going to let go of my brother any time soon?”
Toshinori patted his head. “Please forgive him. In this timeline, his Yoichi died.”
“Oh.” A cold fist clenched around Hisashi’s heart. He knew how badly such a thing would devastate himself. “Fine. I’ll allow it. Though if he doesn’t let go soon, my little brother might bite him.”
As if on cue, Yoichi growled, “Enough is enough,” and tried to squirm free. When this failed, he bit All for One’s arm.
All for One beamed. “How nostalgic! I missed your bites.”
“Uh, you did?” Yoichi looked so unnerved that he stopped struggling.
Toshinori stepped forward. “Time to get the children cleaned up and into new clothes. Then we can explain to them all about the important work we do. We’re freedom fighters against the corrupt government.”
“Really?” Yoichi gasped with starry eyes. “That’s so cool!”
Hisashi grumbled, “That sounds dangerous and unprofitable.”
“We make a fair bit of money too. A rebellion needs to be well-funded.” Toshinori patted Hisashi’s head, mussing his curls. “My family deserves the absolute best. I’m going to give you the entire world.”
Hisashi decided that maybe he liked this guy after all.
