Summary
Post-Avengers (2012) canon divergence
Loki gets up after being beaten down by the Hulk, but the healing is slow going. Something seems to be wrong with his magic, but Thor can't get any answers out of the furious, snarling thing his brother has become. It doesn't matter. Loki is locked away in the lonely cells beneath Asgard and should begin to recover.
But then he doesn't.

Reva doesn’t react. Not a single muscle in her face even twitches. It’s windy today. The gusts coming off the ocean bring the smell of acrid smoke and burning oil and tug at her braids, at her cape. She takes a deep breath of that salty air and asks, “How did it happen?”

A small shift in the duel on Naboo leads not to death, but betrayal and capture. Master Qui-Gon Jinn is not dead but finds himself in an impossible trap, torn between the past and future, trying to understand how he had missed so many signs of growing darkness, while also protecting the young lives in his charge.
aka: Dooku tips his hand ten years earlier because he can't stand the thought of his former apprentice's murder, and that might just be enough to save everyone...if it doesn't get them all killed first.

Summary
Loki almost looks shocked for a moment, but quickly hides the expression behind a mask. He attempts another step towards Heimdall but stumbles, falling on one knee. His hand is clamped over the massive wound in his chest. Blood drips onto the ashen sand.
“So that’s it then?” Loki rasps through bloodless lips. “You’re here to finish it? Finish me off?”
Odin banishes Heimdall from Asgard for committing treason against the throne one too many times, and the Watcher is left bereft of purpose. He thinks to follow Thor into battle against Malekith - but then his eyes catch on an odd sight on the ruined world of Svartalfheim. Loki, alive but gravely wounded and alone.
Heimdall saves Loki's life after he's stabbed by the Kursed and they have a talk about life, death, and forgiveness.
