when wendy returns to the caves with abigail to destroy an unwanted triplet, she unmasks the demon that's been stalking her since her first day in the constant. while standing over the body of a familiar face, she learns once again what it is like to lose a sister.
a familiar face runs through the woods, trying to return to a life that no longer exists. once the survivors find out she's alive, she will have a lot to answer for. once the survivors find out that she is unable to answer any of their questions, it is maxwell who will have a lot to answer for.

she was invited to dinner, so she went. she was told to bring "maxy," so she did. winona worked hard to make a meal worth driving all the way there for, so they ate. the drive was long, so they slept. and that was the end of that.
at least, until big sis wakes up. in charlie's dreamscape, things begin to fall apart.

There's scratch marks on the walls where she keeps trying to pick shadows off of them, as if the dark is going to leap right back into her hands if she tries hard enough to reach it. You feel awful for her. After so long spent cursed, it's got to be hard for her to believe she's really free of it. All you can do is be patient, remind her that there's nothing wrong with her, and be there for when she accepts that.
Winona gets her happy ending. Charlie doesn't.

New York City Mysteries (By King Squeak) is a Don't Starve AU that takes place in New York City during WW2/The Great Depression (I deeply apologize if the timelines are askew from real life, I am attempting to make it accurate.) This story follows Maxwell and his 12 year old niece, Wendy. Moving to New York wasn't exactly how she had planned her life to go, but it turns out to be a rather dramatic ride! If this AU seems interesting, I suggest giving it a read (however I am the author, so I kind of have to say that). PLEASE read the tags before indulging in this story, it does have a few trigger warnings (and know that I will put what the trigger is on every chapter).
