Chapter 1: look at me

Chapter Text

After all the years that Yoongi has spent as a police officer, nothing as hideous and blood-curling could compete with what he’s witnessing right now. Someone he knows has been stabbed to death, painting every furniture and surfaces of the apartment with said victim’s blood.

“Jung Junsoo, 23, cause of death: blood loss—“

Yoongi decided to tune out the words Hoseok’s saying beside him, he badly wants to vomit, not sure if it’s solely because of fear or something mixed with disgust for the person who did this. He cannot believe the fact that just two days ago, this man, a new acquaintance of his— Junsoo, was still alive and well; he even asked Yoongi to go out with him on Friday (today is Thursday, Yoongi absently thought).

Yoongi’s not sure what Junsoo did to deserve this— but there’s some niggling feeling that’s saying he somewhat knows.

Yoongi gulps, trying to even out his breathing. He should’ve been used to this by now but some things just could easily come back when triggered. Yoongi’s under the impression that Junsoo’s death has something to do with him.

He tried to observe his surroundings, scanning for clues that could help them solve the case. Hoseok’s still checking the body, Namjoon's currently not in sight, probably looking for evidences inside one of the rooms, and Yoongi vaguely recalls that Seokjin’s downstairs, talking to witnesses (also read: suspects). Yoongi tries to refocus himselfー it won’t be useful to let his emotions cloud his deductive reasoning.

He was brought out from his silent stupor when Namjoon emerges from the bedroom, softly calling out his name with a grave look on his face. Yoongi carefully watched Namjoon’s body language, he could tell that he has found something, but that's something he’s yet to find out.

Namjoon walked towards him, stopping a short distance away

“Yoongi, I think this is for… you.

Yoongi stood frozen on his spot. The cloud of dread that’s hanging above him poured its contentsー cold water splashing on him that made him feel numb. His stomach churned but he tried to tamp down the feeling because he shouldn’t act unprofessionally in front of his subordinate, even though Namjoon is his friend.

Yoongi looked down at the offending object in between the younger’s fingers before sighing in defeat, accepting an all-too-familiar shade of scarlet envelope. He badly wants to burn it, but the fact that it’s an evidence that could help them to solve the case (isn’t it horrible that a person can turn into a case anytime?) at hand was enough to stop the stupid urge.

A few months back, Yoongi started receiving small gifts from an anonymous sender, they were all sweet and harmless at first; obviously trying to send his or her admiration towards Yoongiー he did not think anything of it because it was actually a thoughtful gesture. But then the gifts started to become more intimate; the sender became bolder by sending him suggestive stuff that Yoongi wouldn’t be too proud to show to his colleagues, and as the time passes by, Yoongi was sure that he just gained a stalker.

Because there is no way a person could just easily ask him how was the taste of the Americano from the coffee shop he only visited once like he’s asking how nice the weather is, or how much fun did he have with Seokjin the night before his birthdayー where Yoongi spent his night at the elder’s place? These are obviously things that could raise anybody’s suspicions.

After receiving those questionable (creepy) messages, Yoongi then started to ignore the things that he receives on a daily basis, but guess he underestimated the person for they only became more insistent. The anonymous sender (now stalker) started sending letters and gifts to his personal address, they even once left a bright red envelope on his car’s wipers (Yoongi had to check the CCTV that time, but a sudden interference happened; so whoever left the letter had something to do with it; it would be too astonishing to call it a mere coincidence). This is where Yoongi got the hint that whoever was behind this murder is also the same person who’s stalking him.

He quickly pulled out the letter inside the envelope, scanning its contents with ardency.

“Hope you like this pretty little gift of mine better than the others I’ve previously sent. You don’t have to thank me, really, but it would be nice if you finally look at me. Don’t be scared my precious, I will never ever hurt you. The only thing that I cannot promise you though is not to hurt anybody else, including your friends— I mean, they can be my friends as well but the thing is, I never liked to share— I know and I can see that there are some of your friends who are too close to you that can no longer be called as platonically friendly. You better watch out for them, might I suggest? (not). From now on, I only want you to look at me. Watch me play, try to catch me, yeah?

And yes— I’m never too far away from you (I cannot bear not seeing you). I am just… around.

I will always be yours if you decide to give yourself to me. ;)

                                                                                                                                                                             Love,

                                                                                                                                                                                  V

p.s. don’t feel too bad for this Jung Junsoo, he’s a cheater and a total dickhead; just don’t want him to taint you, my dear.

(don’t want him to taint what’s mine)”

Unlike the previous messages he received, this was the first time that the stalker gave him something akin to a name, and this fairly revealed a whole lot of things that Yoongi had to ponder every night. Now, Yoongi doesn’t know what to feel, he should be scared that his stalker is a murderer; or to feel angry for already claiming him as his (there was a photo of the dude’s tent included inside the envelope, there were words written below it: "what you always do to me")Yoongi should probably feel disgusted, because who knew how many times did the dude touch himself while thinking of him?

But no, none of these things were surfacing inside of him. Yoongi wouldn’t probably admit it out loud but the feelings that's whirring inside of him are feelings that should probably disturb him; because he feels desired. This could be a secret side of him working which makes him feel wanted and Yoongi tries to remind himself that it shouldn't be this way— but he just feels so beautiful and coveted that he's considering to let go of his logical side for once.

Having the knowledge that one would go as far as to kill people just so no one else could have him gives him a sense of sick gratification. He feels a different kind of excitement that he has never felt before.

He most certainly shouldn’t feel this way given his profession; nor should he feel this way as a decent human being.

But Yoongi then questions himself if ever he was, indeed, decent?

He then concluded that maybe, he isn’t. That the reason why he became a law enforcer was to try to redeem himself for the things he did before. Yes, he used to be a troublemaker— a delinquent, but thanks to his new set of friends back then (consisting of Seokjin, Namjoon and Hoseok), he managed to become remotely normal, but looks like being normal wasn't meant for him.

“Guess I found myself in for a deep shit, Namjoon-ah”
