Guardian Spirits

Summary:

A Stand and its user have quite a remarkable bond. Whether helping or hurting one another, the two are almost always inseparable. First impressions can shape a relationship forever, even if you're meeting a physical manifestation of your own fighting spirit. A collection of first meetings between Stand and user. I'm only up to part 4, so if you want to request something I can only do up to that point.

Chapter 1: Killer Queen

Chapter Text

Yoshihiro walked quietly up to his son’s door. It was midnight sharp, just as they had discussed. He held a special gift for his son in one hand and knocked a secret tune onto the door. Such precautions were necessary for their late night meetings. Kira opened the door slightly and peered out of the crack. Making sure his father had come alone, he let him into his room.

“I assume mother is asleep,” he said to the older man.

“I put enough sleeping pills in her tea to knock out a horse,” he said with a mischievous grin. Kira was not amused. He was simply curious about what his father thought was so important that he had to stay awake longer than he preferred to.

Yoshihiro held aloft a bow and arrow. They seemed to be made of gold and… something else. It was as if a weird energy was emanating from it. A sought-after treasure, for sure, but Kira was unsure what it had to do with him. It would be hard to kill his target in an isolated area with such a long range weapon, not to mention the strength and precision needed to use it effectively.

“Please tell me you didn’t come to waste my time with your little trinket.” Kira crossed his arms and waited for a good explanation.

Yoshihiro scowled. “Don’t be a fool Yoshikage! This is no ordinary trinket. This weapon has the ability to awaken Stands. They have extraordinary, magical power that may help you with your murders.”

Kira looked unimpressed. Stands? Magic powers?  This is ridiculous. He was way too old to entertain such childish things and his old man knew it. His father caught on to his skepticism and clenched the arrow in his hand.

“I know you can feel the energy coming from the arrow. This is no joke! I used it on myself you know,” he said with a hint of pride.

Kira tilted his head and raised a skeptical brow. “So what’s your Stand then?”

Yoshihiro stuttered indignantly before he sheepishly looked away. Ok, so he didn’t know what his Stand was, but he survived the arrow’s blow so he must have one. He saw it in action himself. Lord DIO used it on his subordinates and their powers flared to life. Paying no more attention to his ungrateful son, Yoshihiro loaded the arrow into the bow. He saw a rare look of fear on his son’s face as he aimed at him. Kira recoiled and let out a strangled yelp as the arrow pierced his arm. He took a moment to look at the blood running down the length of his quivering arm before turning to his father. Enraged, he ignored the searing pain and grabbed Yoshihiro by the collar of his shirt and hoisted him into the air. Before he could take revenge on his father, he saw what looked like a pink arm mere centimeters away from his own. He flinched back at the sight of another person in the room, dropping his father in the process.

The creature that had suddenly appeared in the room was shocking to say the least. It stood only a little taller than Kira himself, pink, scantily-clad, and muscular. What stood out to Kira the most, however, were the piercing, cat-like eyes that stared unblinkingly into his. It did not speak, it did not blink, it did not even breathe. Everyone in the room stared at it in silence until Yoshihiro piped up with excitement.

“That’s it! That’s a Stand!”

Kira had yet to take his eyes off his Stand. He cast a quick glance at the arrow wedged in his arm before staring back at the creature. He had a first aid kit downstairs he could use to patch himself up. He continued to eye the strange pink being as he left his room. Just as he thought, it followed close behind him. Any time he would try to outpace it, it would match his speed. Kira sighed. He didn’t ask for any of this nonsense in his life.

Kira washed out his wound at the kitchen sink. He was used to his victims getting a few scratches on him before they died, so he was used to treating his own wounds. As he finished up, his Stand brought over the first aid kit. It deftly wrapped bandages around the affected arm. Suddenly, Kira found that the Stand’s gaze wasn’t so piercing.

Kira returned to his room, where his father was cleaning the blood off of the arrow and floor. Yoshihiro looked up. He gleamed with pride, partially because his son now had a Stand that might be able to help him in his violent endeavors, and partially because he could see it, meaning he did have his own Stand after all.

“So, have you figured out what it does yet?” he asked his son.

“Unless its power is to patch up my wounds, no. Does it always have to follow me around like this?”

Yoshihiro scratched his balding head. “No, the other users I’ve seen have been able to withdraw them as they please. Never done it myself though.”

Kira tried to make the Stand go away, but to no avail. He sighed in defeat and decided to just turn in to bed. His father left and turned off the lights. Of course he could still see the unblinking feline eyes staring him down. Even when he turned over, he could feel its eyes boring a hole into his skull. Frustrated at the entire ordeal, he threw a blanket over the Stand’s head. With the Stand’s eyes off him, he could sleep in peace.

It has been a few days since Kira got his Stand and he came no closer to learning what “magical powers” it was supposed to possess. All it did was carry his stuff, organize his notes, and hover uncomfortably close to him. He did learn, though, that non-Stand users cannot see it or feel its presence, as well as how to make it withdraw. Well, if this thing was going to follow him around, he might as well give it a few basic commands.

Kira stood in front of his house. He looked around to make sure no one could see him talk to himself, or see things start moving on their own. He said quietly “Open the door.” It was a simple command, so his Stand executed it without a hitch. Kira walked in and the door closed behind him.

“Now, turn on the lights.”

His Stand hovered over to the drawers and took out a flashlight.

“No, not that light.” He pointed to the light switch on the wall. “That light.”

Kira could’ve sworn he saw the Stand’s posture change. It seemed… disappointed? Was it upset that it got it wrong? It floated over to the switch, pointed at it and tilted its head.

“Yes, that one. Turn the light switch on.” Kira reassured in a very deliberate tone.

He definitely saw its posture change there. It jolted upright, as if startled. It touched the light switch, though it didn’t actually flick it on. Kira was about to scold it when it jumped back and gave a thumbs up. Before Kira could ponder what it was doing, it brought its thumb down with an audible click. The light switch exploded, bringing a good chunk of the wall with it, Kira covered his ears and turned away to shield himself from the blast. The Stand felt proud of itself.

Explaining the hole in the wall to his mother had been tough, but his father was ecstatic. Kira found himself referring to his Stand as a ‘he’ now, rather than an ‘it’, but could not come up with a suitable name yet. His father told him that his colleagues named their Stands after tarot cards and Egyptian gods back in the day. He briefly thought of the name Bastet, but was told that was already taken. His Stand got better at taking commands from Kira, as long as he didn’t mention anything along the lines of “switch on” or “blow up”.

Not long after Kira figured out what his stand does did he put it to good use. Kira sat at his desk with his newest girlfriend. He was admiring how cleanly the hand was severed from the rest of the body thanks to his Stand’s controlled explosions.  He was home alone and wasn’t afraid of anyone walking in on private time with his girlfriend. It was times like this when he would like to play his music out loud instead of using headphones. He tuned into a channel that occasionally played western music. Though he could only vaguely understand the lyrics, he enjoyed the melody of the current song. It was by a British rock band, if he recalled correctly.

It was at that point that his Stand manifested without his permission. He had done that a few times in the past. Kira made a mental note to prioritize training him better on that aspect. His Stand eyed the radio, subtly nodding along to it. Kira pet his Stand’s head, feeling the fine, almost undetectable layer of fur.

“Do you like this song?” Kira’s Stand continued to sway slightly as his user’s hands roamed to rub his ears, then to scratch the underside of his chin. “I like it too, Killer Queen.”
