Doppo awoke with a fright to the sound of his door creaking open and socked feet padding towards his bed. He froze, his mind racing through the different scenarios that could occur in the next five minutes. Ranging from a burglar to a serial killer ready to slash him with a knife, he nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt a big lump practically flop on him.
"Doppo-chin," the lump groaned which made Doppo relax. Out of all the various scenarios, the most probable (and pleasant) one was Hifumi tiredly making his way from his own bedroom to Doppo's bed. Doppo wondered if he needed Sensei to up his dose of anti-anxiety medication...again.
"Get under the covers, you'll catch a cold." Doppo chided and rearranged himself so Hifumi would have enough room to sleep comfortable beside him. Hifumi dutifully did so and cuddled up to his new redheaded boyfriend.
"Doppo-chin..." Hifumi sighed contentedly into the crook of Doppo's neck and wrapping his arms around him loosely. Doppo smiled weakly and comfortingly patted Hifumi's golden hair, his own anxiety diminishing as the golden strands passed between his fingers littered with paper cuts from his office job.
Although their relationship was still relatively new, they had fallen into it quite easily. Apparently, life in a relationship was much like their friendship. Albeit, Hifumi had made it a habit to crawl into Doppo's bed at ungodly hours and momentarily waking the exhausted salaryman. However, Doppo found it hard to be upset with the blonde host for rousing him with heavy footsteps and slurred words. It made Doppo sleep even better when he had Hifumi drooling in his arms, soft breath puffing against his cheeks, ear or even neck.
For the longest time, ever since puberty had hit Doppo like a truck in middle school, he had felt a twinge of something for the host. They both had somehow managed to survive middle school and high school as borderline neurotic messes and their connection as both friends and sufferers was forever cemented between them. Hifumi's mental state had gotten significantly better after the duo transferred to an all-boys high school while Doppo had nearly lost his wits due to hormones and his newly realized attraction to men. Most of those hormones were directed to Hifumi, but it was still a pain to cover up his hopeless crush.
At least, until that day Hifumi had gotten stabbed by his stalker. That night in the hospital had been the most nerve-wracking and terrifying for Doppo while Hifumi was content to flip through magazines with his good arm and cower in fright when a female nurse came to update them on when the doctor would see Hifumi.
That night, too terrified to go home, Doppo had grasped Hifumi's good hand tightly with tears stinging his eyes. Hifumi looked to him inquisitively, momentarily putting down his magazine and turning his attention to his best friend and roommate. Doppo forced out the words that had been in the back of his throat for years, fully prepared to be shot down kindly (as Hifumi would never be nasty nor cruel to him) but was instead met with the blonde throwing his arms around him joyously.
Hifumi babbled about how scared he was when his stalker turned her knife against Doppo, echoing the same sentiment Doppo had about losing him forever. He babbled about the ever present crush he held for the red head and how broken hearted he was when he briefly dated Jyuto (Doppo shuddered at the memory), about how much it pained him to never really get to see Doppo now that their schedules were so mismatched. Doppo was beside himself, apologizing for hurting Hifumi's feelings (although at the time, Doppo had no idea Hifumi had even seen him in anyway besides as a friend) and regretting not saying anything earlier.
After Hifumi was patched up and sent home with pain medication, the new couple had cuddled up in Doppo's bed with the bedroom door locked tight.
"I can hear you thinking," Hifumi joked quietly, startling Doppo from his inner musings.
"Sorry," Doppo apologized sincerely, earning a sleepy chuckle from the blonde in his arms.
"Don't apologize to me, Doppo-chin. I'm the only one in the world you don't have to apologize to." Hifumi said while leaning up to peck Doppo's cheek.
Ah, that was another thing Doppo wasn't exactly use to. The kissing was pleasant, it made his heart race in such a way that even rapping couldn't match. Touching Hifumi's lips with his own was a dream he craved ever since middle school, becoming even more inappropriate as he got into high school.
Hifumi's kisses were so incredibly different from Jyuto's, it was astounding. The blonde's kisses were sensual and sweet, ever gentle and mindful of Doppo's boundaries. Jyuto, on the other hand, was vicious and biting. The police officer only cared about reaching his own end and if Doppo had come along with him then it was just a side effect. Doppo was still surprised that he had even managed to get out of that relationship, considering how domineering the officer was.
"I can't believe it's going to be Sunday already." Hifumi muttered, blearily eyeing the clock with happy grin. Sundays meant days off in the Izanami-Kannonzaka household, at least most of the time. There were unfortunate Sundays where something went wrong and Doppo would have to rush to work to fix paperwork or meet with a client and other Sundays where Hifumi would be asked for by a powerful and rich client. It sucked, but that was life for them.
"We should invite Sensei for lunch," Doppo sighed tiredly, rubbing at his eyes with the arm that wasn't being laid on by his blonde boyfriend.
"Yeah," Hifumi agreed and nuzzled his face against Doppo's neck once more.
"Go to sleep, Doppo-chin." The blonde whispered while fixing the blanket so it covered them fully and then entwined his legs with the redhead.
"So...tired." Doppo murmured before falling into a dreamless sleep. Hifumi sighed happily and attempted to commit Doppo's peaceful face to memory, fully intending to see it for as long as Doppo would have him.
