Chapter 1: A Curious First Encounter

Chapter Text

This was a scoop. The sludge villain that All Might was chasing escaped and was holding a captive. The heroes around were doing nothing but watching as the high school boy was being held captive.

“Isn’t anybody going to help?!” A random onlooker asked.

“I can’t fit in there!” Mt. Lady declared.

“The fire will burn my wood.” Kamui Woods said.

‘What use are you if you can’t help then?’ Chitose Kizuki, a blue skinned, lilac haired woman thought as she watched the scene unfold.

She suddenly saw a burst of movement and a green haired boy ran in, throwing his bag at the eye of the sludge villain. She was surprised that the attack worked and continued to watch on the edge of her proverbial seat.

The boy started clawing through the sludge to get to the blonde captive. Suddenly, the boy started losing the struggle. It was at that time that All Might decided to show up and destroy the sludge’s body with just a punch, changing the weather in the process.

She didn’t really focus on All Might like the other reporters. Her focus was fully on the green haired boy who went in by himself when heroes wouldn’t even do it. When he was finished being scolded by the heroes, she went after him.

Izuku was having a terrible day. Told his dream wasn’t realistic. Then after he tried to save someone, he was then saved by the one who said he couldn’t be a hero as well as scolded by heroes.

“Excuse me!” he heard a feminine voice call behind him.

He turned around, surprised someone wanted to talk to him.

“I’m Chitose Kizuki. Would you be willing to answer some questions?”

“O-Oh? W-Why would you want to interview me? Shouldn’t you be focused on All Might?”

“Psh, All Might winning another battle is as normal as the wind blowing. I’m more interested in you, mister…”

“I-Izuku Midoriya.” Izuku said, blushing slightly.

The blue skinned girl looked beautiful, her lilac hair framing her face perfectly. The black sclera on only showed how green her irises were. Izuku blushed more as he observed her. He looked away shyly.

“Well, Izuku. Would you be able to answer some questions?”

“Y-Yeah…”

“So, why did you go in there when other heroes weren’t willing to act?” Chitose asked.

“W-Well… I saw someone in need and I just… My legs moved on their own. I had to try and save him”

She smiled at the boy’s shyness.

“That’s such a heroic attitude. Tell me, what’s your quirk?”

Izuku stiffened at the question, a reaction not lost on the curious reporter.

“I… I’m quirkless…” Izuku said, flinching at the assumed berating.

“That’s really impressive.” Chitose said.

“W-What?” Izuku asked, looking back at the woman.

She smiled.

“You wanting to be a hero despite being quirkless shows how much you want to be a hero.”

“Yeah… But someone told me it wasn’t a realistic dream…” Izuku trailed off.

“Yeah it is. Anyone can be a hero if they want to.”

“R-Really?” Izuku asked.

“Yeah. And if you want, I can help you… If you help me as well.” Chitose said, still smiling.

Izuku’s breath hitched slightly before letting out an eager smile.

“Y-Yes! I’ll do it!” Izuku said with eager eyes.

Chitose smiled, writing down her number and ripping it off her notepad. Izuku took it without a second thought. He put it into his phone and sent out a text.

She heard her phone notification go off.

“Good! I’ll call you tomorrow so we can iron out all the details.” Chitose said with a smile.

“O-Okay! I’ll be waiting!” Izuku said with a smile.

Chitose’s smile turned into a smirk.

“You’re cute when you’re happy. You should be that way a lot more.” Chitose said honestly before leaving him.

Izuku was a blushing mess thanks to the blue skinned girl. He calmed down after a bit and continued on home.

Izuku was almost home when he saw the figure of All Might slide into view.

“I AM-!”

A poof of smoke came out of nowhere, cutting him off from his entrance.

“-here…” All Might said after a cough.

Izuku should be amazed, excited even. He’s face to face with his idol. Well, his previous idol.

“What is it, All Might?” Izuku asked.

All Might was put off by Izuku’s tone. It seemed detached.

“Oh, well. I came to apologise. I was wrong for saying you couldn’t be a hero.”

Izuku kept quiet, letting All Might continue.

“You demonstrated an incredible act of heroism. Going in there despite the odds. That self sacrifice is the embodiment of a hero. I take back everything I said. You can be a hero. And I deem you worthy of my power.”

“Your power?” Izuku asked curiously.

“Yes. My quirk wasn’t originally mine. The original developed it before passing it on. Then the next user cultivated it before passing it on to another. It’s name is One For All.”

Izuku was silent as if taking in the information.

“No.” Izuku said.

All the wind in All Might’s sails disappeared with what Izuku said.

“What?” He asked in disbelief.

“I said no. Just like you said to me when I asked if I could be a hero quirkless. But newsflash. I met someone who believes I can be a hero quirkless. If I were to accept your quirk, you are saying that I will only be capable with a quirk.” Izuku said.

All Might was in complete disbelief. He never thought that anyone would reject such an offer.

“If you want help looking for a real successor for your quirk though, I can help.” Izuku said.

All Might decided he would need all the help he could get now that his main pick rejected the offer.

“That would be a welcomed offer.”

“Good. Here, this is my contact info. Message me when you’re able.” Izuku said, handing All Might a piece of paper with his number on it.

“A-Ah… I see. Thank you, Young Midoriya.” All Might said

Izuku didn’t respond as he left. Once he was out of sight of All Might, he broke down. His breathing picked up and his felt terrible. He had to act like he wasn’t completely saddened by the appearance of his previous idol. Despite his encouraging words, he knew they were only because he would give him a quirk. He wished to be a quirkless hero thanks to Chitose’s encouragement.

Despite that, he still wanted to help All Might find a successor. Preferably someone who believed in quirkless heroes unlike him.

He left for home after recollecting himself, trying to figure out how he would explain himself to his mother. She most likely saw the news on how he went in to try and save Bakugo.

Izuku was right. And as soon as he entered the door, he was yanked into a bone crushing and tear filled hug by his mother.

“IZUKU I SAW WHAT YOU DID! I WAS SO WORRIED! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?”

“M-Mom, it’s fine, I’m okay.”

“BUT YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN HURT!”

“I know… But I’ll get better.”

Inko’s heart clenched as she heard Izuku. Izuku continued.

“I’ll get better and become a hero.” Izuku finished.

“Just promise me you won’t do anything like that again until you become a hero…” Inko whimpered worriedly.

“I promise.”

Izuku was sitting at his desk after dinner. He was looking at the All Might posters in his room, contemplating taking them down. He didn’t get to a decision before his phone vibrated. He took it and checked the message.

Chitose: Hey, Izuku. I can call you Izuku right?

Izuku: Oh, yeah, sure.

Chitose: Great! So, let’s talk about our deal.

Izuku: Yeah, you said you wanted something from me in return for you helping me, right?

Chitose: That’s right. I have two things you need to give to me.

Izuku: What are they?

Chitose: When you get into UA, you’ll put in a good word for Detnerat Company. And when you reach the rank of Pro Hero, I will have exclusive interviewing rights!

Izuku was both happy and surprised. He was happy that she said when he was going to UA, not if . Already he was feeling supported. He also felt that the two conditions for her to help him were not that big of a deal to him.

Izuku: Alright. You have a deal.

Chitose: Great! Hey, do you have class tomorrow?

Izuku: Yeah I do.

Chitose: Well, after class, let’s meet up somewhere. You know where the mall is, right?

Izuku: Yeah

Chitose: Alright, we’ll meet up at the mall then I’ll take you to where you’ll be working, alright?

Izuku: Alright! Great! I’ll see you then.

Chitose: See you soon, cutie!

Izuku blushed at Chitose’s last message. He didn’t know why she kept calling him cute. He looked ordinary. Average.

He shook his head, dispelling those thoughts and got ready to sleep.

_________________________________________

The following school day was strange for Izuku. First off, Bakugo ignored him completely. That was a first for him, especially since it was his last day of high school. Second off, it seemed like everyone was avoiding him, not just his tormentor. While that was normal, there were at least scathing remarks directed at him no matter what, but rather than hearing those remarks, all he heard was silence in his way.

He didn’t really focus that much on school. He was looking forward to getting out and meeting Chitose again. She was nice, cute, and wanted to help.

‘Wait… cute? Where did that come from?’ Izuku thought, blushing slightly.

As the last class ended for the day, he got out before anyone would notice him and left for the mall. He told his mom that he would be looking at hero merchandise at the mall for a bit, which she allowed.

Izuku looked around for Chitose while at the mall. She didn’t specify where they would meet so he assumed they would meet around the waterfall.

“Izuku!” He heard Chitose call from behind him.

He turned around and watched as Chitose emerged from the crowd to walk up to him. She wore a black long-sleeve shirt and dark blue jeans with black sneakers. It was casual and it looked nice on her. Especially with that smile on her face.

“Hey, I’m glad you could make it. But you could have gone home and changed before coming here if you wanted.” Chitose said.

“I know, I just couldn’t wait.” Izuku said.

Chitose giggled at how eager the boy was. Izuku enjoyed hearing her laugh.

“Well, if you’re that eager, how about we get going?” she suggested.

“Okay!”

_________________________________________

Chitose led Izuku to a large multi-story building. While there were very few identifying markers, Izuku recognized it as the building of the support company, Detnerat Company.

Chitose glanced back at Izuku and saw him smiling excitedly. She smiled as she returned her gaze ahead of her.

“Is this where I’ll be training?” Izuku asked in disbelief.

Chitose giggled.

“Yep. Gotta pull out all the stops when training you. You’re going to be the first quirkless hero, after all.” Chitose said.

Izuku still couldn’t believe how lucky he was.

“So, this is the quirkless kid we’re helping?”

Izuku turned to the source of the voice and was met with a well built man in a purple skin tight bodysuit with black arrow like markings across his chest, around his waist, and down the center of his thighs. His black knee-high boots share the same theme with a purple arrow marking on the top of each boot. He wears a matching black mask over the top of his head and his eyes. He wears green gloves with a golden scale pattern around the edges and also sported a green scarf-like cape as well. Tying off the look was a thick black belt with a large buckle, five green circles and a golden rectangle in the center of it.

Izuku instantly recognized the man.

“Slidin’ Go?!” Izuku said in amazement.

Said hero smiled and laughed at the recognition.

“In the flesh, kid. Chitose called me here to help train you for the hero course. Personally, I like the fact that a quirkless person wants to be a hero. You have my support through and through.” Slidin’ Go said with a smile.

He extended his hand for Izuku to shake. Izuku felt he was dreaming as he shook the hand of a pro hero.

“So what am I gonna call ya, kid?”

“O-Oh! Idoria Mizuku! I mean Izuku Midoriya!” Izuku said.

Chitose giggled.

“Well, pick one. Idoriya or Izuku?” Slidin’ Go asked with a chuckle and smirk.

“I-Izuku, sir.”

“Well then Izuku, we’ll be doing some intense training for the following months. First off, we’ll be building up your twig of a frame. Nothing to All Might levels of swole, though. Just enough to be able to lift some of the equipment we’ll be training you with.”

“Equipment?”

“Yep! You’ll be using support gear. That is, once we work you out enough.”

“O-Okay!”

“Alright! Then in that case, we’ll be starting tomorrow.”

“Okay! I’ll be here after school!”

“Good!”

“I’ll walk you home.” Chitose said.

Izuku’s face turned red slightly. Slidin’ Go smiled at the boy’s reaction. Something to tease him about later.

“A-Alright.” Izuku said shyly.

“C’mon, let’s go.”

“R-Right…”

Izuku and Chitose left the Detnerat Company building, heading for his house. The walk was relatively silent, but the blue haired girl was wondering about something.

“Hey, Izuku?”

“H-Hmm?”

“Why are you so shy?” She asked curiously.

“W-What do you mean?”

“You’re always very nervous when you talk to me or anyone else. Why is that?”

“W-Well… I’m not really… Good at positive attention.”

“Why is that?”

“It’s just never happened to me.”

“We’re going to have to work on that.” Chitose said quietly.

“Huh?” Izuku asked, not hearing her.

“Nothing. So where is your house?”

“Oh, it’s… that apartment complex.” Izuku replied, pointing to the large complex.

“Are the rooms small?”

“Pretty much. But it’s home.”

Izuku made it to Izuku’s apartment and stopped next to Chitose.

“W-Well, this is where I live.”

“Alright! I’ll pick you up tomorrow.” Chitose said with a smile.

“W-What?”

“What, do you not want me to be here?”

“N-No, that’s not it.”

“Oh?”

“I-I’m just surprised you’d do that…”

Chitose’s brows furrowed in curiosity, but knew she had other things to do.

“Well, don’t be. I’m going to be showing up every day from now on.” Chitose said with a smile.

The blue skinned girl smiled and gave Izuku a wave before leaving Izuku in front of his apartment. He went inside, happy at how the day went.

Needless to say, he was looking forward to the following day.
