there's nothing in life (but you)

Summary:

being in a closed space with an alpha is nothing new to him, but now that they’re both inside his room, jungkook suddenly can’t help but notice yoongi’s scent is everywhere, filling every space of his room, leaving invisible prints on his bedsheets.

he’s still wearing yoongi’s jacket and scarf, the smell of lemongrass reminds him that it belongs to yoongi, yoongi, yoongi.

Chapter Text

the sky is pitch black, unforgiving.

jungkook knows he’s being reckless, but he’s already halfway back to his dorm by the time he smells a strong alpha pheromones at the end of the alley. it’s dark, only a few lights coming to light up the alley way, but he’s sensitive to smell, and he can pick up the scent of an alpha even before he sees one. the scent is mint—it’s strong, too strong perhaps- and it reeks of alcohol. he stops in his tracks, feeling a trickle of anxiety flooding his senses. at times like this, he mentally curses his stubbornness until he gets dizzy with anger. jimin’s right—he should’ve waited for him, should’ve gone back to his dorm together. it’s not like jimin belittles him just because he’s an omega and need of protection from an alpha. jungkook’s strong—maybe even stronger than an alpha. hell, he could chokeslam them if he wanted to. (jimin agrees with him). it’s just that… jimin must’ve been worried of what an alpha could do with their pheromones, a fact that he hates immensely. with their status as an alpha, they could even take an advantage of the “alpha voice” that will make omegas and betas flinch. or even worse—jungkook swallows heavily, subconsciously touching his bare neck, unblemished.

jungkook wills himself to calm down. getting panicked won’t do any good- he still needs to pass this alley before continuing his walk to the dorm. standing still in the dark won’t get him anywhere. the sooner he steels himself to walk, the sooner he can breathe easily again. he takes a step forward, mindful of his backpack and his phone, battery almost drained.

the omega pulls up his hoodie until his messy hair is hidden, trying not to attract attention. he can smell the scent of the alpha clearly now, sharp and piercing. he tries not to be bothered by it, wills himself to calm down, to assert steadiness. he can’t show fear, or anxiety, or the fact that a shiver crawls up his spine the moment he can see the huge figure of the alpha. it’s blurry—not much light can reach the alley way, but jungkook sees his broad chest and strong arms, and the fact that this alpha is drunk. jungkook can smell it on him- he’s practically drowned in the smell of whisky. when jungkook walks past him, as quickly as possible, there’s a spike in his pheromones.

great.

he’s opting for a sprint when he hears a low whistle, one that is clearly directed at him. the alpha pheromones is taunting, and jungkook feels anger, disgust boils within him. he doesn’t want to turn his head to look back, but suddenly there’s a loud clack, followed by “hey there, pretty.” it’s enough for jungkook to grip the strap of his backpack tight and run. he doesn’t get far, however, when he hears a chuckle, this time clearer, and he feels muscular arms grip the side of his waist, nearly sending him toppling over. he’s immediately flooded with another scent of an alpha, this time sandalwood, hidden underneath the heady smell of vodka. he’s unable to smell him because of the alcohol—and now he’s trapped between two alphas.

jungkook shrieks when the alpha digs his nails into the fabric of his hoodie, and he knocks his arms away with his elbow, push himself away as much as possible.

“calm down, pretty boy.” the other chuckles, words slurred. “you’re all alone- we thought you’d like a company.” his scent makes jungkook dizzy, and he takes a step back in fear.

“you smell so good—”

“fuck off. don’t touch me!” he hisses, fists clenched. “if you take another step—”

to his horror, the alphas start cooing at him, voices turn sinister, “what’re you gonna do, omega?” one of them grabs jungkook by force, and jungkook, using all of his strength, twists his arm, hearing the alpha screams in pain. he kicks the other’s shin, and the moment they’re howling in agony, screaming stupid omega- jungkook dashes past them, finally seeing the end of the alley, he’ll get out in time, and he’ll scream for help—

that is, until he feels a rough yank on his hoodie, dangerously close to his neck, where he’s most sensitive, and just like any other omegas, his body stops functioning entirely. he feels his shoulders droop, his legs trembling, and a pitiful whine forms at the back of his throat. this is what he fears the most- a grip on the neck, and it’s over for an omega like him. this is what jimin and his other friends have told him before: don’t let an alpha touch the back of your neck- be careful. because jungkook knows as much- omegas are rendered helpless when an alpha come in contact with their necks. they turn pliant, willing, ready to be on their knees. jungkook feels nauseous, heart pounding against his ribcage. he breathes and breathes and breathes, hearing their laughter, their mockery.

“so it’s true what they say—omegas are meant to be on their knees.”

“they’re all desperate to be bred! they can’t live without knots.”

he’s pushed into the ground roughly, and jungkook struggles with all his might, even when the omega in him is telling him to stay still, to be obedient, but he struggles, flailing his arms until the content of his backpack spill into the ground, and he sees- there, his key glinting in the dark. his only chance- he ought to try. jungkook reaches for the key and aim it to the alpha’s dark eyes, and that’s all he sees before a scream pierces his ears and he pushes himself up to run.

he almost trips over his own feet, but he’s already out of the alley way, where the lights illuminate the road but he’s still panicking, anxiety bubbles up in his chest, that he sways in his step, falls down to his knees. he takes a deep breath, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale- and something sweet catches his nose. he picks up another scent, another alpha, he recognizes in fear, but this time, he smells of lemongrass and tangerines—a calming scent, soft and sweet. the scent gets closer, and when jungkook looks up, he’s greeted by a pair of pretty eyes and baby blue hair, face contorted in worry.

when the alpha approaches him, jungkook flinches, fists clenching in reflex.

“are you okay—?” his voice is husky, a deep rumble that almost sounds like a purr. the frown in his forehead deepens when he stiffens all of a sudden, nose flaring. his head perks up to the direction of the alley. he must’ve smelled them too.

jungkook struggles to form an explanation, let alone speak, but he manages to stutter, “help- p-please.” he curls to himself, “there- there was- i was alone- and—”

something flashes on the man’s eyes. “ssh, it’s okay, it’s okay.” the man gently shushes him. there’s apprehension in his eyes, and he’s quick to move, to act. he takes off his jacket and drape it on jungkook’s shoulders without hesitation. “listen to me, okay? you’re going to be alright. can i put my scarf on you?” jungkook looks at his knitted scarf. he’s probably trying to hide jungkook’s scent with his own. the omega nods curtly, before his neck is wrapped in the warm wool, the scent of lemongrass flooding his senses. it makes him sigh softly, makes him ease his anxiety. the blue-haired alpha is careful not to invade his personal space, something that makes jungkook feels grateful.

“does it hurt when you stand up?” he asks gently, watching jungkook’s expression for any pain.

“no… it’s just- my legs—i feel like i can’t move.”

“will it be okay if you lean on me? it’s—”

there’s a loud scream from behind him. jungkook can smell anger swirling in the air, and the blue-haired man’s scent spikes up, too. something like caution, protectiveness. the alpha pheromones is piercing through the air, and jungkook realizes with horror that the two drunk alphas chased him here, all the way down the street. there’s no one else here, no one to help them. the blue-haired alpha must’ve sensed his panic- he carefully tightens the scarf on jungkook’s neck, and whisper, “let me handle this.”

he stands up, and jungkook notices that the alpha is much smaller in size, shorter than jungkook, shorter than the two alphas—but he straightens his back with confidence, shoulders firm, and his eyes- god, his eyes—jungkook swears he sees them turn golden, a threatening glint in them.

“why did you run, omega?” one of them taunts.

“just what do you think you’re doing?” jungkook shivers when he hears the word spitted out, can see the way the other two alphas flinch back a little, surprised by his dominance. they underestimated him. “you touched what’s mine.”

“bullshit.” one of them says, eyes red and puffy. “he’s unmated. he’s not your omega.”

“he’s mine, and i don’t allow filthy alphas like you lay even a single finger on him.” he takes a step forward, chest puffed. “get the fuck out of here before i call the cops.” a deep growl tears its way from his throat, and it makes jungkook involuntarily trembles- head bowed in submission. god, if he listens to the omega in him, he’d be drenched in his own slick, the pheromones filling his lungs, prompting fever to his skin. jungkook watches the drunk alphas recoil, discouraged by the use of alpha voice. they might be bigger, but jungkook knows they wouldn’t dare to start a fight with pheromones this strong- blue-haired alpha could grit his teeth and make them scurry away in an instant. jungkook never meet an alpha with a strong presence and dominance like him before.

they both know they won already when the drunk alphas curse and leave the pair alone, a hint of fright on their scents- before they disappear into the darkness. in an instant, the small alpha goes back to jungkook’s side, crouch down to look him in the eye. the same soft expression graced him, a contrast of what he’s shown earlier.

“the bakery over there has a surveillance camera. those alphas won’t be hard to find, don’t worry.” he says gently, “let’s get you back to your place.” jungkook is moved gently, leaning half of his weight to the alpha, who’s surprisingly undeterred. he touches jungkook carefully, asking whether it’s okay, whether he can touch him or not. he’s gentle, all of his movements graceful, cautious. the smell of lemongrass and tangerines is more prominent now that he’s up close. he feels a strange urge to bury himself into the crook of his neck, to find comfort within those arms.

“—thank you, um.” what’s your name? he asks in a small voice, eyes not quite meeting.

blue-haired alpha offers a gentle smile, “min yoongi.”
