Chapter Text
Life is the same. At times it can be boring, repetitive even. But I prefer it that way. In a world where you expect the unexpected, you need to enjoy the little peace that you have because you never know when the next issue will occur. I’m glad that I have all these people to look out for in class 2-A. We’re similar to a family, does that sound too cheesy? I don’t really know much about writing... A good friend of mine recommended it to me. She told me that it would help me express my feelings. I guess it’s because I seem very concealed on the outside. I do feel that I’ve grown in strength and compassion compared to my first year at UA. I have learned to be grateful for many things, small things, beautiful things… like winter turning into spring.
Shouto Todoroki sighs as he puts down his pen. Writing didn’t seem to be his strong suit. He stands up and walks to the door of his Japanese-styled room. He takes a glance at his mirror and brushes something out of his red and white hair. He notices that the pain in his right arm was starting to go away.
Shouto had been at an internship a few days ago and he took some major blows on the battlefield. Luckily, Recovery girl was there to help.
He lifts the sleeve of his school uniform and winces when he lightly touches his forearm that is wrapped in bandages. There’s a knock on his door and he quickly put down his sleeve, he was sure it would only make people worry about something so minor.
“Todoroki, Are you ready to leave?” The familiar voice questions politely.
Todoroki went to grab his bag off of the desk as he answered.
“Just a moment.”
He opens the door and is greeted by his chipper friend Izuku Midoriya.
“Good morning Todoroki! How was breakfast?” His messy green hair sways as he holds his hand up in greeting.
“Midoriya,” Shouto greets in his regularly banausic voice “Breakfast was fine.”
“We should hurry outside, I’d hate to keep Uraraka-san and Iida-kun,” Midoriya grins and starts towards the elevator.
“Right, sorry to keep you guys waiting.” Todoroki states following closely behind
“That’s okay!”
Once they get out of the dorms, Todoroki sees Ochako, Hagakure, and Iida standing up next to the stairs to the main entrance.
“Friends! We must hurry or we’ll be late for our first period!” Iida warns while walking quickly.
“Right, sorry to keep you waiting,” Midoriya apologizes for both himself and Todoroki.
Ochako and Hagakure are arguing about the better flavor of ice cream.
It’s always so lively here
“Isn’t it nice guys? The cherry blossoms are budding!” Midoriya says looking up at the sky.
“You’re right Deku, I’m so glad winter is ending… too cold for me,” Ochako shudders at the thought of the cold season.
“Hey don’t try to change the subject! Who likes strawberry ice cream the best? It’s just so wrong!” Hagakure exclaims, waving her sleeves up and down.
“You’re one to talk! Rocky road? What even is that!” Ochako fights back.
The two girls keep on arguing until they get to class.
“You’re just gonna have to respect my opinion,” Ochako sticks her tongue out at Hagakure as they walk to their seats.
Todoroki sits down in his seat and looks to his left, towards his seat partner, who seemed to be gazing into the distance. When she heard Shouto’s chair move she snapped back into reality.
What a shame Shouto thinks she looked so peaceful…
“Oh! Good morning Todoroki-san!” Momo Yaoyorozu flashed a bright smile at Todoroki.
Todoroki likes Momo, she’s a very great friend to him and he admires her positive attitude towards anything. She truly is a respectable hero, and she has a good heart. Shouto stares at Yaoyorozu for a minute too long when she asks.
“Is everything alright?” Momo’s black hair bounces as she widens her eyes in confusion.
“Oh, sorry, good morning Yaoyorozu,” He watched as she turned her attention towards Mr. Aizawa as he walks in sluggishly.
Hagakure raises her sleeve high.
“A question? Already...” Aizawa looks at the clock and groans
“Which ice cream flavor do you think is better? ”OH MY GOD GET OVER IT” Rocky Road or strawberry.” Hagakure and Ochako overlap each other during sentences.
“Can you two shut the fuck up,” Katsuki Bakugo says (surprisingly quietly) and glares at the two which silences the girls.
“Thank you Bak-”
“It’s obviously strawberry,” He mumbles and slouches in his chair.
“AHAHA! WHAT DID I SA-” Ochako starts and stands up but quickly sits back down as Aizawa’s eyes gleam in her direction.
“Nevermind” She squeaks
Mr. Aizawa starts the lesson and Todoroki can’t help but think to himself.
Everything is so very easy, I wouldn’t want it any other way… Of course, I want challenges, but I like my friends. I like going places with Midoriya and hanging out with Tsuyu. I like studying with Yaoyorozu, not because I need to study but because I enjoy her company. Sometimes she asks if I want to go with her to a cafe and study… I find it difficult to say no to her. So why not? I value the time I spend with all of my friends.
I hope nothing changes.
Lunch rolls around and Shouto is in the classroom gathering his belongings.
“Are you coming, Todoroki?!” Midoriya questions from the doorway
“I’ll catch up with you”
Midoriya flashes a grin and jogs down the hallway.
Spring might be coming but so are midterms… He’ll have to stay on top of things.
Todoroki picks up his bag and walks toward the lunchroom. As he rounds the corner he hears a familiar soft voice on the stairwell.
He sees the raven-haired beauty and is about to call out her name when he notices that she’s having a conversation with somebody.
“Yeah, a couple friends and I were planning on going there.” A male voice says energetically
Todoroki quickly hides behind a wall and quietly listens in. Todoroki doesn’t usually spy let alone eavesdrop on people. He’s just trying to… assess the situation.
“That sounds like such a delight! I’d be happy to join you Yousetsu-san” Momo excitedly replies
Their footsteps start to get louder and Shouto looks around for somewhere to hide.
“Oh, hi Todoroki-san!” Yaoyorozu spots him and waves.
“Yo, Todoroki!” Awase greets.
“...Hi”
“Oh, I don’t believe you two have formally met…” Momo ponders “Yousetsu-san this is Todoroki-san, a recommended student like me and-”
“Don’t sweat it Yaomomo-chan,” Awase grins and swings his arm around her “I can’t think of one person in this school who doesn’t know who Todoroki is!”
Shouto tenses up and glares at Awase. He doesn’t like the way he touched her without permission, He doesn’t like the way his body is losing its sense of temperature, and he really doesn’t like the way Momo blushed when Awase touched her.
“Woah, what’s with that look pal,” Awase says, still grinning
“Uh… We were just about to head to the cafeteria, would you like to join us?” Momo asks in that sing-songy voice of hers.
“Right…” Shouto answers, still staring at Awase who hasn’t let go of Momo yet.
The three of them start walking to the Cafeteria, an uncomfortable silence surrounding the atmosphere. Not soon enough, Awase took his arm away from Momo to check his phone.
Shouto shoves his hands in his pockets and glances over at Momo a few times and decides to break the silence.
“Yaoyorozu,” He gets her attention “Are we still going to that... new cafe tomorrow?” Todoroki says knowing that she wouldn’t go back on her w-
“Oh my goodness, I completely overlooked it, Todoroki-san, I’m so sorry…” Momo startles Shouto.
“Oh but Yaomomo, this convention is a once in a lifetime experience!” Awase chimes in “you can’t just cancel?”
“...Maybe we can reschedule Todoroki…” She looks down at the ground in shame
“What?” is all Todoroki could manage to get out.
“I’m seriously sor-”
“Oh, there are my friends over there!” Awase cuts Momo off and drags her into the cafeteria
“Right, we’ll be going then, bye!” She tries to yell as she stumbles away with Awase holding onto her hand.
Shouto just stands outside of the cafeteria doors, dumbfounded.
Well, that’s new...
