A Thousand Words Never Spoken (Rooftop Confessions)

Summary:

Win falls all at once; without warning and the prince hates himself for it.

Win steps forward and takes it from Bright's mouth before taking a long drag, and tossing it over the roof's edge. "I wouldn't know," Win says, "but haven't you ever felt love before?"

Bright scoffs, "love?"

Work Text:

Win opens the rusted door to the roof of Bright's apartment complex, where he finds the older man having a smoke. "You're here?" He smiles and shuts the door behind him before meeting Bright at the middle of the rooftop. "Smoking will tear your lungs apart...."

"My lungs...." Bright exhales, blowing the smoke into the Prince's face. "Baby, they might as well tear my heart out. It's not like I use the fucking thing...."

Win fakes a frown, "that's a shame."

Bright just smiles, "is it?" His eyes keep themselves on Win's face. "Then enlightenment me as to why I would need a heart." He brings the cigarette to his lips again.

Win steps forward and takes it from Bright's mouth before taking a long drag, and tossing it over the roof's edge. "I wouldn't know," Win says, "but haven't you ever felt love before?"

Bright scoffs, "love?"

The Prince nods, and Bright swears he can see his wings fluttering with anticipation from underneath his denim jacket. He watches as Win moves to sit on the rail of the building and steps forward so he's now in front of him. A part of him wishes Felicity were here; she would know the answers to the Fae's questions. He leans forward into Win's space and places both of his hands on either side of the rail.

"You're not going to answer the question?" Win mumbles with a smile. "Or are you simply ignoring it?"

"Why don't you describe it for me..."

"I don't think it's something I can describe," Win admits honestly. Bright's eyes flicker from the Prince's face to his mouth as he listens. "But..." Win continues, "maybe it's the way you're looking at me right now?"

"And in what way am I looking at you?"

The Prince expects Bright mock him, to dismiss him, but he doesn't. He just keeps looking at him. "You're staring." He notes his observations as Bright leans in closer. "Maybe that's....why...."

Bright feels Win unconsciously wrap his legs around his waist while he urges him to continue. "What are you thinking of, Win?"

"Rux," Win says almost immediately and Bright gives him a perplexed look. The Prince carefully grasps Bright's face in his hands. "I want to kiss you...."

The Incubus hardly knows what's gotten into the Fae. He almost purrs as Win's thumb presses against his lip and into his mouth, prying it gently open. The Fae shivers, as Bright's teeth graze his skin once he pulls it away. The prince moves in closer, his arms now wrapping around his neck while he presses his mouth to his slowly.

This wasn't supposed to happen. Win knows this and yet here he is, practically whimpering into Bright's mouth, feeling the tips of the older man's fingers trace the skin just under his shirt which in turn cause him to gasp.

"Shhh," Bright coos against his mouth when he pulls away. His fingers continue to lazily brush against Win's skin. "What's gotten into you?" He lightly teases but the way the Fae's pupils shift into snake-like slits tells him that something has changed. "Have you fallen in love with me?"

The words come out quieter than the demon anticipates and memories of the Tavern fill his mind. If those words came from Win, how would he feel? Win's mouth is bruised, his hair messy, but his eyes haven't left Bright's face. His chest heaves, and he opens his mouth to speak but Bright, who is suddenly anxious over his reply, kisses him again in an attempt to swallow any answer he may have given.

I was--" Win tries to speak against his mouth but groans when he receives a bite to his lips in response. The Prince feels his body being pulled off of the railing and onto the ground with Bright now hovering over his frame.

"Don't talk," Bright tells him. His fingers come up and thread through his black hair and Win softly hums when he tugs at it. "Just wanted a better look at your face..."

Win smiles at him warmly when Bright expects something more sarcastic, even cheeky. So he asks, "What is it?"

"My face," the Prince mutters. "What does it look like?"

The incubus feels his brows knit together at his question. He didn't understand what--

"Does it look like I'm in love?"

"That would mean you're in love with me." Bright tells him bluntly. The small part of him hopes it to be true when he sees Win smile.

The Prince's eyes have calmed down and he looks towards the night sky, saying nothing for a few moments. He sighs. "If it were, would you and I still be here like this? Would we still kiss each other the way we do?" Would you still hold me the way you do?" Win looks at him again and sits up so their foreheads knock lightly together. "If I were to say I was in love with you, would you stay with me?"

Bright is at a loss of what to say because Win, who's now looking at the ground, and toying with his sleeves shyly, sounds so sincere, so vulnerable. "You've been thinking about these sorts of things..."

"Not thinking, just wondering." Win says. "Have you ever thought about it?"

"About what?"

Win looks at him again, his eyes practically shimmering, "if I was in love with you..." He doesn't wait for an answer to add, "I think I'd like that. Liking you doesn't seem so bad..."
