Chapter Text
The thudding footsteps growing louder was the only warning that Buer Blushenko had to jump out of the way as Balam Sicirue burst through the door of the Teacher’s Lounge. Buer watched in growing bewilderment as Balam stormed in carrying – was that the Chair-Demon’s grandson? Of course it was – over his shoulder. Balam was now pacing in circles, glancing frantically around at all the present staff members. Buer quickly closed the door, latching it behind him as Balam shouted, “Someone!! This is bad news!!” The anxious tone startled a quick, “What’s wrong?” from Marbas-Sensei as he and Bars Robin hurriedly stood up from where they had been discussing lesson plans.
Iruma’s legs swung as Balam once again spun, this time as Morax Momonoki, the Transfiguration teacher, attempted to calm the situation, despite her obvious nerves. “Balam-sensei, what seems to be –” “This is bad!!” Balam interrupted, his eyes wild in panic above his mask. “THIS KID HAS NO WINGS!!” Buer’s first instinct was to scoff at such a ridiculous notion. Yet, Iruma’s reaction was… not expected. Buer had expected the young demon to immediately refute Balam-Sensei’s statement, to explain away this obvious misunderstanding. Instead, Iruma’s head had snapped to stare, wide-eyed, panicked at Balam-Sensei. His already pale skin had somehow grown even paler, and his breathing was shorter, faster. As if he’s about to hyperventilate. Buer’s brow furrowed as a heavy sense of dread settled over him.
Momonoki-Sensei drew back with an alarmed cry of, “His wings!?”, while Marbas-Sensei came closer, voicing a reasonable, “He might’ve stored them into his back…” Balam-Sensei finally lowered Iruma to the ground, almost glaring at the other teachers. Buer noticed that Iruma tried to escape, but only got one step before Balam had clamped one hand firmly around Iruma’s slim shoulder. Ignoring Iruma’s apparent distress, Balam pointed adamantly at Iruma’s back. “There’s no wing roots on his back either! Feel it for yourself…!”
Balam shifted his grip from Iruma’s shoulder to the back of his collar. Sweat collected at Iruma’s brow and began trickling down as he was forcefully spun around. Buer found himself slowly coming closer, that cloud of dread growing stronger, as Robin-Sensei rushed toward the pair. “Iruma-kun! Show me your back!!” Balam-Sensei finally relinquished his hold on the anxious Iruma as Robin crowded Iruma with a single-mindedness born from concern. Iruma had become a stuttering mess. “Er..Er..Er..I’m fin…” Robin-Sensei ignored Iruma’s protestations as he placed one hand on Iruma’s waist and the other began to draw up the back of Iruma’s uniform. Robin muttered, “Let’s have a look here…”, while Iruma cried out in alarm as his back was exposed for the world to see.
