University of Almight is a BNHA AU in which Deku and his classmates are university students in a quirkless, modern setting. Toshinori Yagi, under the stage name Almight, is an edutainment star on the scale of the real-world Bill Nye, and Deku's childhood hero. He's also the most famous alum of Musutafu University, now popularly called University of Almight in his honour. Having retired from his television career after a decline in his health, he's returned to Musutafu U as a professor, hoping to teach a new generation of students to love learning and sharing their knowledge with others.

Notes on world-building: obviously, there are big cultural differences between Japan, where the story takes place, and North America, where I live. I'm trying to strike a balance between the two in my writing. I don't want to act like I know everything about Japanese college life just because I can read wikipedia articles! I know the writing will be more natural - as well as easier for most readers to relate to - if I shift some things further towards Western standards. I'm not gonna try to hide this; it's just not practical.
A few things to keep in mind:
- I have many of the characters use each other's given names once they're comfortable together; my writing comes out more tonally consistent this way.
- I use the Japanese school year, as this is fairly easy to reference online.
- I don't shy away from underage drinking/casual drug use or underage sex; these are approached fairly casually by many university students/young adults in North America at least, and feel fitting in the setting to me.
- I can only know so much about education standards in a country I've never visited! So much of the content directly related to school experiences will be referenced from my own time at university.
