Work Text:
Dreams are the thoughts of your subconscious mind. They reflect your deepest desires and anxieties.
There is a thin line between dreams and nightmares. One reflects joy other mirrors sorrow. This thin line keeps them apart. But when happiness and grief become indistinguishable. And when emotions ran rampant this line is broken.
Dark.
Everything is shrouded in darkness. You are afraid to move.
A step.
You take one.
Light flickers in the distance.
You take another now it's like a fireball.
Another.
You can make out grey walls.
Another.
You are standing in a courtyard.
Another.
You can see. Two figures. One in dark green clothes other in a much lighter shade. Standing side by side. The one in darker robes hands over a flute to the one draped in lighter ones. The elder one places a kiss on the forehead of the younger one. They both smile mumbling words you can't hear.
Unconsciously your hand travels to the place where his lips were pressed.
You take few more steps. Scenery changes. Bright and dark. Warm and cold. Day and night.
They are standing again in front of you. With the addition of a third person dressed in clothes much lighter compared to the other two standing between them.
This time though their expressions are different. The older one wears anger while the younger shivers with fear hidden behind the middle one who appears to be calm.
They separate paths walking in opposite directions. The middle one looks between them and heaves a sign.
You walk few steps.
Now the middle one is staring at you. He walks towards you.
Huisang didn't you left just now? He asks.
Huisang.
Huisang.
Realization crashes over you like thunder. You are Huisang. The one in darker robes Da-ge an-and the one standing in front of you, Meng Yao.
Panic-stricken you start running. Once his voice becomes distant only then you stop.
You look around. You are standing in the middle of what seems to be a temple.
Guanyin temple. You recognize.
You hear clashes.
Baxia lunges towards you.
Why?
It should go behind Jin Guangyao.
What is the difference between you and him? A voice asks.
You look around. No one is there. Then who spoke just now?
Where are you looking? Answer. The voice demands and you realize it's coming from baxia.
You start trembling. Baxia hovers over you.
Answer, the voice urges again.
A lot, you reply.
Laughter.
It starts laughing. Loud and thunderous. You envelop your hands around you.
How? You killed him as he killed your Da-ge.
You muster some courage and speak up.
He tricked Da-ge.
You tricked Xichen.
He took innocent lives.
You risked as many.
He did everything to satisfy his greed.
So did you to satisfy your thrust for revenge.
No.
No.
It was my right. He killed my Da-ge.
No.
Don't come close.
Go.
Go away.
Don't come close.
Leave me alone.
Leave me.
Huisang wakes up gasping for air. Yet again from one of his nightmares.
