Chapter Text
There are moments in life in which it is like you develop a sixth sense, these moments are important. Even as a sophomore in high school, Nicole was known to be mature for her age, the rational one, relying on logic and facts alone to direct her actions. Yet, this one thing, this something important is going to happen feeling was one she never second guessed, and never ever ignored.
It sort-of felt like when someone brushes past your bare skin much too lightly, the unexpected contact raising goosebumps along your extremities, and she could feel them now, the short hairs on the back of her neck rising, as the heat that mimicked a fever took over her face. The sound faded out; the voices that seconds ago filled the hallways lowered as if she had just dipped her head under water.
She stood frozen, a hand still holding the book she was removing from her locker, while she waited, waited to know what this feeling demanded of her next. Her vision a blur of blue she recognized as the lockers lining the halls, and the realization that she was moving made her drop her eyes to her feet as she was turning.
She gradually raised her gaze, and much as the current slow-motion state of her reality would allow. A corner, a boot, attached to a long, tanned leg of the girl turning into her line of sight. A denim skirt, much too short for Purgatory weather, a toned stomach peeking from a crop-top, a graceful neck. The girl was looking down at her phone, her face hidden behind the longest curtain of honey brown hair that Nicole had ever seen.
Then the vision before her suddenly stopped dead on her tracks, as if she had just remembered something important. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes briefly before opening them to find Nicole’s and locking on to each other. They both simultaneously just; exhaled.
That was the first time she saw Waverly Earp.
Nothing would ever be the same again.
