Warnings: Kavar/Male Jedi Exile, PTSD

Kavar's POV

Rubbing a hand down his face Kavar made his way to the communications room. Talia sent him a message on his communicator that saying that someone in the Republic Army needed him. Given the state of the Republic it was surprising that they would try to contact him.

Kavar was helping Onderon heal after the Mandalorian Wars. The Jedi Council sent him due to his good relationship with Queen Talia. He was the only Jedi Master that she would trust to help her.

It had only been a few years since the end of the war. Onderon was struggling with recuperating. His calmness within the Force was helping but it was a slow process.

Talia was pale outside of the communications room. Her dark green eyes widened as he approached. He was wearing light battle armor in lieu of his usual robes. The armor allowed the members of the guard to feel more comfortable with him.

Kavar questioned his head turning to the side curiosity shining in his blue eyes, "What is going on?"

Talia said pained, "The Republic Admiral Cede and Master Vrook are asking that you take a ship to Telos. They are waiting to talk to you in the room."

"Why?" Confusion clouded his question.

What would the Republic want with him? The last time they wanted to talk to him was at the start of the Mandalorian Wars. Before Revan and the others had gone to the war.

She said looking back at the door as if she expected someone to come through it, "The exile has returned from the unknown regions. Currently Lukas Lambert is on Telos."

Shock filled him and he couldnt help his reaction to the name. Lukas was the only one who had returned from the Wars. He had faced the Council with more bravery than most.

Kavar had wanted to keep the younger man close. To understand why he was as he was. His Force Presence was almost completely gone. To the other masters it was as if Lambert was already dead.

For Kavar he knew the truth. Lambert was hiding his presence within the Force. He could make himself completely invisible unless he wanted to be seen. Kavar was one of the few people that could track him.

What could have made the exile return from the unknown regions? Did he find something? The only way to find out was to go and talk to the Admiral.

He said trying to portray a calmness that he most certainly did not feel, "I'll speak with them."

With that he entered the room now questioning his attire. If he knew that Vrook would be on the call he would have changed. His fellow Council member would not take kindly to the battle armor.

By the narrowing of the older man's eyes he was right. Grateful that the Admiral was there he greeted both men, "Admiral Cede, Master Vrook. What can I do for you both?"

Cede was the first to reply his dark eyes on Kavar immediately, "Master Kavar, we are asking for your aid on the return of Lukas Lambert. The TSF alerted me of his arrival on Telos a few hours ago. They reported that he gave them no trouble in surrendering upon docking. However he has shown signs of possible Force Sensitivity once more. He is beyond our capabilities to contain should he decide he wants to leave."

The exile with the return of the Forece would be very difficult to contain indeed. Lambert before the Wars had been an easy going person. Most of the other padawans enjoyed his company and looked up to him.

Unlike so many others he had a natural charisma that drew others to him. It was very similar to the charisma that Revan had. It made others want to follow him and give everything for his cause. It was part of the reason the Council exiled him. They were afraid that if let loose in a temple others would follow him once again.

Kavar for his part had considered taking Lambert as his padawan. He even had gone to the boy's rooms that day. Only to that he was too late and Lambert had left with Revan. That had stung. He had thought that Lambert would have at least said goodbye. Instead he was gone without a word.

Vrook continued drawing him from his thoughts, "Kavar I want you to head to Telos immediately. Assess the exile and see if he truly has returned to the Force. If so the Council requests that you begin retraining him. Distrubing reports of Revan and Malak returning have reached us. We need everyone we can get if it's true."

"And if it's not?"

"Then he is to return to the Outer Reaches. We do not need him as a distraction if Revan and Malak have indeed returned."

Lambert's POV

For what essentially was his cell the apartment he was given was comfortable. The TSF brought him three meals every day. It was more than what he received when he was on his own.

Lieutenant Grenn had informed him a few days ago that the Council was sending a master to evaluate him. Lukas didnt remember how he arrived on Telos. The last thing he remembered was dueling someone on his ship. Then nothing until he woke up in the medical bay.

According to the Lieutenant he had given them no trouble when he arrived. Instead he was detained and when he was stripped of his weapons and armor that was when they found his injuries. By that time they had already gotten in touch with the Council. So they treated him as they would anyone else.

Once stable he was moved to his current quarters. Where he stayed waiting for the Master to arrive. He could only hope that it was anyone other than Atris or Vrook. Their arrival would end in disaster and quite possibly bloodshed. Something Lukas had enough of for one lifetime.

War had taken its toll and Lukas had been cut off from the force until recently. Vesitages of the Force were returning to him. The first time he felt it since Malachor V was during the duel. He struggled to grasp it and keep ahold of it.

Even now he was sitting on his bed focusing the Force was slipping through his grasp. He struggled with even the most basic of exercises. Currently the pillow he was trying to lift was off the ground by a few inches.

The door suddenly opening startled him and the pillow dropped. Annoyed blue eyes shot up his mouth opened to snap at the person who dared come in unannounced. Dark blue clashed against light blue and recognition filled him as he saw the tired master in front of him.

Lukas questioned his heart jumping into his throat, "Master Kavar?"

"The one and only," came the tired reply, "That is one question answered. The Force truly has returned to you."

Lukas ducked his head in acknowledgment. It had even if he couldn't use it very well. Control had come so easy to him in the beginning. When he was just a child he excelled at the studies. Now even lifting something as light as a pillow was difficult.

Kavar was wearing his typical Jedi robes but the gloves were military issue. By the crest just above the wrist he was almost positive they were from Onderon. Which meant the master was spending a lot of time with their military. Either helping them heal or aiding against any insurgents.

To his surprise the man offered him a hand up. One that Lukas took gratefully and allowed the man to pull him to his feet. The still healing wound in his side pulled but remained closed.

He must not have hid the wince well enough for sharp blue eyes met his in question. Lukas felt obligated to answer the unasked question, "I was in a duel before arriving on Telos. I dont actually remember anything between the duel and waking up in the infirmary."

Kavar reached out a hand before hesitating. He questioned keeping his hand outstretched, "May I?"

Lukas hesitated before he nodded. Kavar was one of the best combat medics in the Order. Many in the Hall of Healing tried to recruit him. However Kavar had a drive to see battle. That kept him from becoming a healer.

Kavar placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. The Force flowed around them and Lukas could feel and hear it easier than before. The Force flowed over his body healing the remaining injuries without complications

Lukas almost whined when the man's Force Presence receded. In the past others presence would set his teeth on edge. Even before his master died he had difficulty accepting someone else's presence. With Kavar it was easier than anyone else. His presence was calm and unobtrusive.

Lukas unable to stand the silence that now hung between them asked with a bowed head, "What happens now? I didnt intend to break my exile and I dont even know how I ended up here."

Kavar considered him for a moment before sighing, "Vrook sent me here to evaluate if you had indeed returned to being able to use the Force. His suggestion if it was true was for me to do as I intended just before the Mandalorian Wars."

That caused Lukas's head to shoot up to meet his eyes. There was a gentleness in them that he had not seen since he was a young padawan.

With a dry mouth he asked, "And what was your intention?"

Kavar met his gaze evenly the Force rang with the truth of his next words, "Lukas Lambert will you be my padawan?"

The universe seemed to stop at the question. Of all the things he could have asked Lukas dared not hope for that one. The one question he had hoped would be asked before he left with Revan. The one that would have stopped him from going.

"Yes. Yes I'll be your padawan."

Chapter Text

Kavar's POV

It had only taken him a few moments to get Lukas's release. They would be staying on Telos to give him time to assess where Lukas was at in his training. This would also give the Council time to bring the younger's lightsaber back from the Archives.

Despite his reconnection to the Force, there wasnt a bond forming between them yet. Not an uncommon occurence by far. It took years for a Force Bond to typically form between Master and Padawan. Still he felt a silver of jealousy that their bond wasnt formed immediately.

It had been the talk of the Temple when Lukas and Master Shioon had become Padawan and Master. Shioon like Kavar had received the rank of Master without ever taking a padawan. It was a rare occurence typically happening with Knights that had no interest in taking a student. The Knight in question would have to go through a rigorous set of trials to prove themselves. Most gave up after a year or two but he and Shioon were proof the trials werent impossible.

Kavar had been proud of the older master but it was with just the hint jealousy. The boy had been skilled even at young age. He learned quickly no matter who was teaching him. All the masters of the temple knew that Lambert made bonds easily. Too easily for certain members of the Order to be comfortable.

Vrook in particular was wary about the ability. The two had constantly butt heads over small issues. This only got worse when Lambert was 14 and his master was murdered. Kavar had been on his own mission in a nearby system when it happened. Lambert was absolutely devastated by the loss. His pain could be felt through the Force even by Kavar who had no connection to the boy.

By the time he arrived there was nothing he could do. Shioon was dead. Lambert hid his presence within the Force. Once bright blue eyes were clouded over becoming a grey color.

Kavar didnt see the boy much between the time Lukas's Master died and the Mandalorian Wars beginning. When he came back to the Temple, Lukas had cut himself off from the others. Only Revan really knew what the kid was doing.

Flashback

As he entered the Training Halls he noted there was a padawan speaking with Vrook. The padawan was human with dirty blond hair. He was tall close to six foot with lean muscle. Without seeing his face Kavar would guess the padawan was in his late teens or early twenties. Most likely getting last minute instruction before he took his trials.

Something that surprised him was how muted the boy's presence was. It was as if he wasn't really there. An odd thing to think given that Kavar could see him with his own eyes.

Then the boy turned as if sensing his curious eyes. The deepest blue eyes he had ever seen met his own sky blue. It took a long moment but he felt recognition go through him.

The one he thought to be in his late teens was still just a child. At just 16 standard years Lukas Lambert a prodigy much like Revan was though much quieter. If Kavar remembered correctly he was well on his way to becoming a guardian.

Kavar also remembered how bright of a presence the boy used to have. That no matter how much they tried to teach him control it stayed just as bright as ever. What happened to dull it so significantly?

Lambert bowed as he greeted, "Master Kavar. If you will excuse me I have duties to attend."

With that the boy disappeared. When he was out of sight Kavar could no longer sense his presence. It was as if he was gone completely from the world.

Kavar said pointing to the door the boy disappeared out of, "That's not normal. What happened to Padawan Lambert?"

Vrook said pinching the bridge of his nose in a rare show of agitation, "He's been like that since the loss of his master two years ago. Tracking him down is next to impossible. To even meet with him you have to find him during training times."

Kavar questioned hiding his wince of sympathy for the boy, "Why not send him to soul healers? Surely they could do something for him?"

"Tried that," sighed Vrook, "He wont open up to them in the Force or otherwise. And they wont force the issue as you well know. Trying to pair him with another master has ended in disaster several times. Honestly the Council doesnt know what else to do with him."

Oh no. Kavar had a sneaking suspicion now of why the Council agreed so easily his request. They wanted him to take on a padawan and here was one no one that no one could control.

"No," denied the younger master immediately.

Vrook raised an eyebrow as he said, "I havent asked anything of you, yet."

Kavar reaffirmed, "You dont have to. I know the games you and the others like to play. The answer is absolutely not. I have no intentions of now or ever taking a padawan."

Vrook replied calmly, "That's what we all say. At least while you're here look at them. There might be one or two who'll surprise you. Maybe even enough to change your mind."

End of flashback

Kavar sighed. Vrook had been right when it came to him finding the right apprentice. Lukas had been the only padawan who caught his attention. Many of the unchosen apprentices tried to catch his attention. Unfortunately for them the Force wasnt drawing him to them. The wars had ended any attempts Kavar would have made at asking Lukas to be his padawan.

Turning his head to the side he glanced at the young man. Lukas was laying on the bed with one arm slung over his eyes. He wasnt asleep that much was obvious even without the Force.

Kavar sighed, "You should try sleeping, Lambert. It's not good for you to stay up this long."

Lambert removed his arm and sat up with a scowl. It made Kavar want to snort in amusement. No matter how old the boy was he still had that fire in him. The fire that drew so many to follow him.

Lambert returned his eyes sliding away from Kavar's, "I cant sleep. The last time I tried the room shook with the force of my nightmares."

Kavar winced in sympathy. Nightmares were difficult to deal with for anyone. For someone so young and cut off from the Force it would be more so. Now that Lambert was back in touch with the Force he needed to be retaught how to use it to aid him. For now there was something he could do to help.

Stepping close to Lambert he saw the minute flinch. Kavar offered not commenting on flinch, "I can help you into a dreamless sleep if you'd like."

There was a flash of mistrust in the young man's eyes. Then he saw him relax and nodded. Lambert opened himself up to the Force.

Kavar encased the young man in his presence he placed a gentle hand on his brow. A gentle order to Sleep was given. Almost immediately the young man slumped forward. Gently he pushed him back down onto the bed. Hopefully the Force would keep Lambert in a restful sleep.

Chapter Text

Kavar's POV

Atris coming to Telos wasnt an uncommon occurence. It was two days after his own arrival. Once again Lambert was in a Force Suggested sleep. If he remembered correctly she trained the Echani. Force sensitives who trained in melee combat without the Force. The training without the Force made them extremely difficult to fight against. The group was almost as old as the Jedi themselves.

Unwilling to leave Lambert on his own in case he had a nightmare, Kavar requested that she come to the room. The reply he received was curt and annoyed. She could not however deny his request as he was a senior member of the Council. They would speak outside in the hallway. The nearby apartments had been cleared for the safety of the residents. After that first night the TSF said the residents were cooperative.

When Atris arrived at the door she lightly knocked. Kavar only briefly glanced at the padawan. Lambert's breathing and presence was unchanged. He was still fast asleep.

Kavar kept the door slight ajar to hear the nightmare before it worsened. Atris greeted with a slight haughty tone, "Kavar you look well. Especially given how close you are in proximity to the Exile."

He returned the greeting, "Atris it has been awhile since we last spoke. Not since I left for Onderon."

She replied, "We both have been busy with other things. I have been working tirelessly with the Echani. And you have been working on restoring Onderon."

That was true. They both had been busy over the last year or so. With things heating up again they will be even more so. That was, if Revan and Alek had truly returned with the intent to destroy the Republic. Currently it was only rumors but if he knew the two half as well as he thought he did then it wouldnt stay rumors for long.

Kavar said tiredly, "Trying to help Onderon heal has been slow going. Another war could shift the tides of power there."

Atris glanced at the open door behind him as she questioned, "And you think Lambert will turn the tides? He was loyal to Revan before and followed him to the Mandalorian Wars. It is possible that he will return to Revan's side. Especially if you return to him, his lightsaber."

Kavar looked long and hard back at the room. She had a point. If Lambert was the same child that left he very well could return to Revan. One thing that everyone knew about him was that he was extremely loyal. But only to those who had earned it.

Then he shook his head as he said, "If Lambert was still loyal to Revan I dont believe he would be here. I think that he would have returned to Revan as soon as he could. Even without a lightsaber."

Silence hung between the two master for a long moment. Then Atris unhook Lambert's lightsaber from her belt and held it out to him hilt first. As was custom he took it and activated it.

With a snap hiss the lightsaber hummed to life. Its silver blade lighting up the hallway around them. Distantly within the Force he could feel the echoes of lives lost. Many had fallen to this blade in the war. Human and alien alike.

A shudder ran through Kavar at the feeling. Part of him had to wonder if Atris was in fact correct. The lightsaber alone could shift Lambert back to Revan. So many had followed Revan because of the younger boy.

Against their instincts and the Council. One master spoke of how padawans and even Knights would not hesitate to follow the boy simply because he asked them to. No one knew what exactly caused him to draw such a following.

Vrook suspected it was Lambert's ability to form bonds. Typically it took years of working together to make a bond between master and padawan to form mental communication. Master Shioon spoke of being able to speak to Lambert across the Force within a few short weeks. It was unheard of but easily proven by the two.

Atris questioned her eyes flashing with triumph, "You feel it too, dont you? The feeling of all the lives taken by this blade? Are we right in retraining someone who could easily return to killing again? Or should we put a stop to the madness now before it has a chance to begin again?"

Kavar sharply looked up at her. The questions could have been innocent enough if it wasnt for who was speaking. She wanted to kill Lambert before he ever had the chance to start his training again. To forcefully ensure he never turned to the Dark Side. That was something he could never agree with. No matter the reason she gave for it.

Coldly he said, "I think you should leave, Atris. I will not allow anyone to harm Lambert. Not while he is under my tutelage."

"You are making a grave mistake, Kavar," she snarled, "I hope you see that before it's too late. Put him down before he becomes a danger to the galaxy."

With that she was gone leaving Kavar alone in the hallway. He didnt want to think about the consequences of tonight's conversation. He had spoken the truth when he said he would not allow harm to come to the young man. People could change if they were given the chance to. He was going to prove it to Atris.

Upon entering the apartment he found Lambert sitting up. Slowly Kavar clipped the lightsaber onto his belt. Ever aware of the eyes that followed every movement he made. Lambert must have heard Atris telling Kavar to him down.

Lambert questioned not looking at him, "Are you going to take her advice? Put me down like a rabid animal?"

"Maybe if I thought you were rabid," countered Kavar easily, "Fortunately for everyone involved I dont. You are many things Lambert but you are not rabid. I think you can heal all you need is time."

For a moment Lambert simply stared at him. Then he said, "Call me, Lukas. Lambert is getting old and fast."

A small smile crossed Kavar's face as he conceded, "Lukas then."

Chapter Text

Kavar's POV

After a few quick words to the dock master they went up the ranp. To his amusement Lukas went straight to the cockpit. Preparations for take off only took a few moments.

Kavar was working on the navigation when Lukas stopped moving. It took several seconds for him to realize what was wrong. The younger was stiff as a board his eyes were looking out the ship's view port.

Moving away from the navigation he questioned softly, "Lukas are you with me?"

Lukas shook his head. Pain laced the Force and he could feel it. It wasnt muted even in the slightest.

Bending down so that he wasnt looming over the younger he said keeping his voice soft and level, "Hey. What do you see Lukas?"

Lukas shook his head his jaw tightening to what had to be painful levels. It made him wince in sympathy. While he had not served in the war he had seen many battles. A stiff drink and time away from everyone was what allowed him to feel normal again. He would have to keep the young one away from the alchohol.

Lukas whispered, "Malachor V. The planet its destroyed... I shouldn't have used that machine."

Machine? What was he talking about?
Kavar replied in calming soothing tones, "Easy, Lukas. You're no longer on Malachor V. Who am I?

Lukas shook his head not meeting Kavar's gaze. That won't work he needed to ground the young man. Otherwise they would not get off the ground.

Raising a hand he saw a flinch from the boy. He hesitated before placing it on the boy's shoulder.

Lukas said staring at his hand with clouded over eyes, "Kavar. You're Kavar. What are you doing here? You didn't go to war with us."

"We are not on Malachor," he denied, "You came back to face the Council. We are heading to Onderon."

There was a flash of uncertainty in his eyes. Kavar hummed one of the songs that he had learned while on Onderon. That surprisingly seemed to work as the boy slumped into chair.

Kavar suggested calmly, "Why dont you go to the quarters on south side of the ship? I'll finish the preparation for take off and on the path for Onderon."

For a moment Lukas considers it before he shakes his head and straightens. He said in an odd tone, "No it will go faster with two."

Oddly Kavar didnt feel the need to press.

Lambert's POV

Later found him in the crew quarters after the ship entered hyperspace. Despite his incident earlier Kavar seemed to accept his presence. No questions were asked about how often he lost himself. Or what triggered it.

Lukas knew though. He knew that being on a freighter like this was what caused it. The last time he had been on one was when he escaped Malachor V. He had stolen a freighter to get away from the dead planet. The one that caused the Force to cry out everytime he opened himself up to it again.

After leaving the Council he had traveled throughout Wild Space. Using a freighter he had bought using credits he earned while fighting in the war. Many of the officers had insisted on paying him for the time he served.

His bag that had been taken by the TSF was returned to him. Unexpected was that nothing had been removed from the bag besides the weapons. Even his comlink was there with a new number added.

Lukas's heart jumped when he found the photo that was taken just before the fated battle. Lukas stood in the middle his men all around him. Mikage his second in command at the time had an arm slung around his shoulders. None of them knew at the time what would be done to win the war. Or the cost that it would come at.
Another photo was of Revan and him. Who took the picture was anyone's guess. The two of them were huddled over a war map discussing strategies.

A knock on the door sounded and Lukas turned to face it. He called out, "Enter."
Kavar did as he was bid. Instead of his usual robes he had changed into a grey tunic and black pants. Neither of their weapons were belted to his side.

Lukas asked his head turning to the side in curiosity, "Did you need something?"

Kavar said glancing at the bag, "I was wondering if you would like to join me in meditation. Do not feel obligated to. I just thought I'd offer since we are we have a good amount of hours to Onderon."

Onderon was a good planet. It was run by Queen Talia who was loved by all her subjects. She worked with the Republic and the Jedi that had come to fight the Mandalorians. There were a handful of times Lukas had met her. Most of the time she was helping treat the injured. They hadn't really spoke during the war.

Lukas knew that Kavar was friends with the Queen. It made him wonder why Kavar didnt go to the war. Talia would have wanted him to help the war. Then again he was a member of the Jedi Council. They had sent him to try and prevent the war.

Part of him even if he didnt want to accept it knew the truth. If Kavar had gone to war with them he would have fallen. Like so many of his comrades he wouldn't have been able to stand up to the darkness that built within his heart.

Even now Lukas could feel the echoes of was within his own heart. The call for battle still resonating within him. He was able to turn away from war but only just. Revan had tried to convince him to stay and hunt down the remaining Mandalorians with him.

It had been tempting and he was almost unable to turn away. Only the reminder of a promise he had made before he left kept him from taking Revan's hand. He swore to himself that he would face the Council. It was what allowed him to return. To make the journey back from the outer reaches.

Running a hand down his face he turned his attention to what he knew of the system. There was one place he hoped he never returned to. That was the moon of Duxon. Duxon... it was one of the few places that was just as bad as Malachor.

Turning his attention back to Kavar he paused. For a moment he considered it before he shook his head. No he was in no way prepared for trying to open himself up to the Force. He hid it well but Lukas could see Kavar's disappointment. It almost made the younger wish he could take back his words. But he couldnt and Kavar left him be.

Chapter 5: Onderon part 1

Chapter Text

...

Going through his unarmed combat katas should have been soothing. The ache that he felt should have gone away. It had worked before he arrived on Telos. It had worked when he was still a commander under Revan. Some of the katas had been taught by Revan himself. Still, the need to do something else filled him. It made him mess up the katas he had known by heart since before Malachor. This simply added to his frustration.

In the end, he found himself in the cargo bay. There he found an old astromech that was fairly beaten up. It was odd to find one on a shuttle like this. Most would be in starfighters or larger vessels. Shuttles rarely had the use for them unless someone couldn't use a navigation chart properly. If that someone was in the cockpit he would worry about everyone on board's safety.

Running a hand over the old droid he found it covered in dust. Dust that dirtied his hands and made him frown. It had not been moved in many months but he didn't think the shuttle was that old. Surely its previous owner wouldn't leave a perfectly good astromech behind? The droids were costly even the older models.

Lukas decided he wanted to find out the little thing's secrets. Curiosity killed the Kath hound as his master used to say. Shioon always said his curiosity would get him into trouble one day. She had been right.

With rolled-up sleeves, he got to work on the droid. Its wiring had been eaten up by a rat of some kind. A few he could splice to fix but many needed complete replacing. Thankfully with the return of his things came the repair parts he collected. During his travels to the outer reaches, he had to do most of his own repairs. To get it done professionally would take longer than he was willing to wait.

Further inside he noticed that its power core had been damaged. Blaster bolt if he had to guess. That would need an entirely new power core. There was no way he could fix it. With gloves however he was able to pull it out.

From there he replaced one of the mechanical arms. It was a fairly easy fix as similar parts were used for everything. The wheel looked good though the joints needed to be oiled.

Back inside the interior, he found a few lights that were out. Replacing them had been the easiest thing so far. It was followed by fixing a broken reader that was not so easy. Finally, there were the sensors that told the droid where it was going. Like the power cell, it would have to be completely replaced. Something he did not have on the ship.

As he moved away wiping off his hands he felt a shift ever so slightly behind him. He took one up one of his tools and put all his strength behind threw it. It stopped mere inches from Kavar's head. Instead of looking angry or disappointed, he seemed amused.

Lukas dipped his head as he apologized, "I'm sorry, Master Kavar. I didn't mean to attack you."

Kavar replied with a gentle look, "Just call me Kavar unless it's a formal setting. I should have alerted you to my presence instead of surprising you. I'm sorry."

For a moment he blinked at the man before he said, "It's fine. I lost myself."

Kavar crossed the room and kneeled down beside him. He looked over the droid as well. After a few moments, he rolled up the sleeves to the shirt he reached inside.

Lukas froze in surprise. He had not expected this man to show any interest in his hobbies. Kavar checked the wires with a frown then reached for tools. Without a word exchanged between them the two worked on the droid. There wasn't a padawan and master bond between them. It would happen but not yet.

There were only a few changes that had to be made by Kavar. It was relaxing to be in the man's presence. When they were done Kavar sat back with a small grin.

"You did a good job," he said, "I didn't know you were interested in mechanics? When did that come about?"

Lukas rubbed a hand over the back of his neck as he replied, "I learned when I was under Revan. A tech specialist taught me most of what I know."

"He did a good job. You should continue if you like this."

"Really?"

"I'm not going to discourage your interest, Lukas," he replied coolly, "As long as it isn't self-destructive."

Lukas bit his lip but nodded cautiously

Lukas bit his lip but nodded cautiously. That seemed to bring a gentle smile to Kavar's face. Then they turned back to the droid.

Chapter 7: Onderon part 3

Chapter Text

...

Their arrival on Onderon was uneventful. They passed through the security checks in orbit quickly. The name Kavar was a powerful one on this planet. Lukas was happy for that.

Instead of landing in the middle of docks like he expected they were directed to one of the private docks. It was close to the palace. As they came in for a landing Lukas stood at Kavar's shoulder giving him a clear view of the docks. Below them were several security personnel. There was a woman in special clothes. If he had to guess that was the Queen.

Once they landed he powered down the ship. Then Kavar stood brushing his hands down his robes. Briefly a hand touched his lightsaber clipped at his belt.

Kavar said after a moment, "I'll get my bag. Are you ready to face our welcoming party?"

Lukas gave a quick pat down of his clothes before nodding. Kavar eyed momentarily before he turned to head to his own rooms. Lukas went straight for the ram to wait. Only a few moments later Kavar joined him.

Kavar pressed a button lowering the ramp. Lukas was briefly blinded by the bright sunlight of the day. When his vision cleared he saw the royal guard. A man in Mandalorian armor was the first to catch Lukas's eye. On the armor was the crest of the Queen where there should have been a clan crest.

XIII was a tall human male, nearly six and a half feet tall with light muscle underneath the armor. Hanging from his belt was a familiar lightsaber. A scar was over the right side of his cheek. Lukas remembered the battle he received it in. It was the same battle Lukas received a large scar across his back. From a vibroblade.

Grey blue eyes met Lukas's own blue eyes recognition flaring within them. A crooked smile crossed the other's face. XIII bent his neck slightly in difference to Lukas. Despite being a higher rank XIII almost always looked to him for guidance.

Then his old friend looked at Kavar who Lukas stood just to the left of the man. Confusion was evident across his face. Then his head turned to the side of in curiosity. Lukas returned the signal with a shrug. Nonverbally they communicated that things were well but he didn't know much more than that.

Suddenly the guard took large steps backwards. Kavar led Lukas to stand in front the guards. The younger man stood half a step behind the master and just to the left. It was enough to show that he was not the other's equal but neither was he too far beneath him. The way a padawan would stand beside their master.

A woman in biege robes her hood lowered revealing brown hair on her head. Green eyes held a happiness that he was unused to seeing. They were solely focused on Kavar as she made her way over.

To her left right in step with her was a man he recognized easily. Commander Vaklu a resistance fighter that had served beside Lukas and XIII.

Vaklu's lined face broke out into a smile. Black hair was slicked back out of the man's grey eyes. He wore light battle armor with the royal crest on its shoulder. A vibroblade was strapped onto his side and a pair of blasters pistols strapped to his thighs.

Per Onderonian tradition Lukas bowed to the man. It was a small bow of respect that acknowledged his position above the younger man. Then he spun on his heel to face Queen Talia.

Once he faced the Queen he stepped forward. Then Lukas bowed low, much lower than to Vaklu. Bring up his dominant hand to his abdomen he flipped it so that the palm was up. A sign of respect and loyalty towards the Queen herself.

For a moment he waited for her response, to his surprise she greeted formally, "Well met, Jedi. I see you know our traditions surprising given your youth," then to Kavar she greeted much warmer than to Lukas, "Master Kavar welcome back."

Kavar smiled gently, "Thank you for allowing Lukas to join me here in the palace."

Talia sighed, "I don't like this Kavar. However I will respect your decision. Padawan Lambert I expect you to follow the rules of the palace. General Vaklu will inform you of them."

Vaklu said stiffly, "Of course. General Lambert it has been quite some time since we met. You are well?"

Several soldiers stiffened in surprise and a few tried to get a better look at him. XIII stood stock still but there was a twitch of his lip. A clear sign of his amusement. Lukas wanted to flip him off as he would have done before. It would be inappropriate here. He would talk to his friend later.

Kavar turned to his a flash of surprise in his blue eyes, "General?"

Lukas shrugged, "It was Revan's idea. He saw me a leader he could trust. So he gave me the position that I never wanted."

Vaklu said calmly, "You saved many lives by your actions. Including my own."

Lukas rubbed the back of his neck as he said, "I was just doing what I could."

There was a new light in everyone's eyes now. They were no longer bored. If anything he was being appraised even by Kavar. It made the hairs on the back of his neck rise. He would have to be careful from now on.
