Facades

Summary:

Midoriya Izuku is not Deku. Midoriya Izuku acts nothing like Deku. Midoriya Izuku has been numb for as long as he could remember. But - he isn't going to show others this. There's no reason to. After all, he'd already spent half of his life putting up fronts. What's the rest of it going to matter?

Notes:

Hi so this is going to be a vent because I seem to live vicariously through midoriya izukus in particular so this might be a bit triggering. dissociation is something dealt with, so be warned of that.

Work Text:

Waking up was always hard. It was always the worst part of every day. Izuku always had to force himself our of bed, trying to convince himself that he had to because everyone would be worried if he didn't, which wouldn't be good for anyone.

It took about 15 minutes, but he finally managed to get up. Everything always felt fuzzy when he felt like this. He could barely tell that he was controlling himself.

And, God, looking at himself in the mirror always made it worse.

He couldn't even recognize himself (herself, itself, themself? Not even Izuku knew anymore)

"That's not me. Why do I always see that? That's not... That isn't me..." Izuku muttered. Trying to ignore the fact that he didn't feel like she was in it's own body, they tried to continue getting ready for the day.

Usually, by the time that Izuku was done getting dressed, the episodes (as he had heard his aunt call it) were over. Today, however, seemed to be an exception. It seemed to be happening increasingly common as of late.

Despite this, the boy I'm not a boy I hate being called a boy walked to the mirror to finish her daily routine. They looked in the mirror, and it saw a blank face staring back at her. The face didn't belong to them, even though it moved with her. That wasn't it's face.

Regardless, Izuku began putting on their makeup, mostly to cover her eye bags that grew more with each passing day.

Finishing the concealer, they looked in the mirror once again. He took a deep breath, then gave the face in the mirror the best smile it had. It looked like it could light up a pitch black room better than the sun.

Too bad it was fake.

Emotions were so hard to work with. Izuku hadn't had to deal with them in herself, but that made it harder to try to deal with other people to at least look like he did. It's situation was so much worse in the dorms, too. They only had time to unmask in her bedroom, and he didn't get much time to itself because of all of hir another one? you're just looking for more attention now classmates being around constantly. It got exhausting.

Pushing these thoughts down, for xe had no other way to deal with them, she walked downstairs to the common area with a small smile on their face. It still didn't belong to him, but they were controlling it. (she thinks so, anyway. it's so hard to tell when he gets like this)

Xe sat down on the couch, trying to understand what her classmates were saying, but they weren't successful. There were only two conversations, but it felt like a concert in a long hallway.

'Don't stim. You know better than that. They'll be weirded out by it. Just keep your hands intertwined and listen to me.'

It took him a moment to realize that Uraraka was calling their name.

Everything was still so muddled together.

Today would be a bad day then.

Nothing out of the ordinary.
