It was a beautiful letdown

Summary:

Crowley didn't mean to Fall. But he doesn't regret being a demon either.

Work Text:

The pain of sulphur compares not
To this rejection, me from You.
There is no ref'rence more profound:
Losing the only Love I knew.

My head thought I had wanted it.
And yet I had these Questions, too.
My heart knew I did not belong
Here singing choired songs to You.

I needed what I did not know.
In this, you saw what I could not.
You loved me, so You took Your Love,
And then you cast me out to rot.

It's not that I regret the Ask.
It's the Reply that hurt me so.
Although the pain will always last,
Each day I feel the relief grow.

Unwanted freedom, I am sent,
Cast out to Downwards flight.
A bittersweet Inheritance:
My Punishment and Right.

Notes:

Poem title from the 'Beautiful Letdown' by Switchfoot. I think the concept of 'a beautiful letdown' is valuable for everyone to have. An unwanted change of social scenery can be so incredibly painful, but sometimes once on the other side you realize that maybe it was for the better.
