Work Text:
feelings are pretty stupid in megumi’s opinion. he’s never really had them before. like, romantic feelings. he’s never really cared to get close to someone in that way before, and he definitely didn’t think the day he would be taking back those words would be today. he didn’t think he’d be attracted to a complete idiot, either, but here they were, and itadori was—well, he was a bit stupid, but he was also strong, he was brave to the point of recklessness, he was so determined. (also very muscular. let’s not forget that.) basically, megumi was started to have real feelings, and his past self would probably think he was pathetic, but the worst part was he didn’t even care. he liked itadori, there were no two ways about it, no ways in which he could deny it. this was his reality now. his reality was looking at this boy and falling for the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, and the way his hand gripped the knife while he cooked.
he wasn’t exactly sure when it happened. maybe it was last week, when he couldn’t tear his eyes off itadori’s bare chest during training (who could blame him), maybe it was the first time he tried itadori’s cooking, or maybe it was the first time he saw him. that night when he’d recklessly jumped into the fight to help megumi, that night he’d swallowed sukuna’s finger without a second thought, like an idiot, just so he could save his friends.
it didn’t matter really, though, megumi realised. when did he start liking itadori? was it slowly, over the time they’d known each other, or did the feelings come at once on a random afternoon? if he couldn’t place the exact moment, it probably didn’t matter. what mattered was that this was maybe the most awful, torturous feeling he’d experienced, yet simultaneously the most beautiful feeling that gave him butterflies in his stomach without fail, every time. one second megumi felt like slumping into his bed and crying to some dumb sad music that was almost as dumb as itadori, and another second all he wanted was to hold him in his arms. he thought he’d eventually get used to the rush of feelings, but it still overwhelmed him every day. this was his first time, after all, at the ripe age of sixteen, and he was pretty sure he might get hurt badly, and that he wasn’t hiding anything at all. he could tell he was being completely obvious about his feelings by the pitying looks kugisaki gave him when she saw him staring, and by the subtle comments gojo would make (itadori being the blockhead he was hadn’t quite managed to catch on to what was so funny). the comments were slowly decreasing, as even gojo had apparently decided that megumi was too pitiful to tease; it wasn’t even fun anymore.
“maybe you should pay attention to what i’m saying instead of itadori,” gojo would loudly say, waiting for an amusing reaction of some sort. but itadori would just give him a confused stare, and megumi wouldn’t even bother looking away from him as he hums his acknowledgement.
it was ridiculous. megumi was letting himself get away with too much, all because he was counting on the fact that itadori remained entirely too oblivious. he was letting himself get away with unabashed staring, with asking itadori to hang out almost every night, with all kinds of almost-suggestive comments that anyone with a single functioning brain cell should have picked up on. but this was itadori yuuji, of course.
megumi supposes it’s part of his charm. that, and the fact that he just can’t seem to look away from him.
(it’s like a disease. megumi will gladly let itadori do whatever he wants with him.)

exhibit a (and really, he could cycle through the whole alphabet twice).
they were finished with school for the day, and megumi was fresh out of the shower, watching itadori put off a worksheet gojo had given specifically to him. he was sitting at the dining table.
“want any help with that?” megumi quirked an eyebrow, glancing down at itadori’s homework. itadori yelped, having been watching something on his phone.
“huh? help with what?”
megumi felt like crying. “itadori. you have this worksheet due by tomorrow,”
“oh, right,” the colour drained from itadori’s face.
“here, we’ll do it together,” megumi said, pulling up a chair next to him.
“thanks, fushiguro!” itadori brightened, scooting to make room for him.
they went through the questions about different types of curses. itadori required a generous amount of prodding in the right direction with most of them.
“i’m so bad at this,” he slumped in his seat.
“no…” megumi shifted.
“it’s okay, don’t feel bad about hurting my feelings,” itadori said glumly.
“i mean,” megumi scratched his head, feeling his heart pick up in a panic, “i can help you memorise some of these things,” he offered before he even registered himself beginning to speak.
“are you sure?” itadori frowned in concern.
“yeah, definitely,” megumi found himself nodding.
“you’re a life saver, in that case,” itadori lifted his gaze to him hesitantly.
“um,” megumi felt his mouth dry up. “it’s nothing. wanna come over to my room?”
itadori blinked at him in mild surprise. megumi usually didn’t like people invading his space. “yeah, sure,”
they sort of smiled at each other.
“man, you’re such a great friend,” itadori laughed, getting up. “who woulda thought,” he mumbled to himself, already on the way to the dorm area, “fushiguro megumi,”
megumi thumped his head against the table. right. friend.

megumi is aware that he should probably do something about it. about his feelings for itadori. it’s not even funny at this point. he could try saying that he was only attracted to him because itadori was hot. he could try saying that he just had a little crush on him because itadori was nice to him. he could say that his feelings were only intense because it was his first time liking someone. it wasn’t exactly a lie, but at the same time, it just wasn’t true. nobody would look at megumi and then agree with any of these statements. it was clear that megumi was spiralling, maybe even (probably) falling in love. he couldn’t help it. itadori was just everywhere. he was there, soaking wet with only a towel to cover him, when megumi wanted to take a shower. he was there in the kitchen when megumi woke up in the middle of the night to get water. he was there every day, looking so bright and sweet and kissable, and wow megumi wanted to kiss him.
one time, kugisaki had nudged him while itadori was in the bathroom. “you need to get your shit together,” she’d whispered, to his horror. “it’s obviously making you insane. you look too...mushy. you need to tell him.”
megumi had flushed from head to toe at this, and then luckily, itadori came back.
“what are we talking about?”
“nothing!” megumi had said, wincing at his tone.
“okay,” itadori shrugged easily, plopping himself down next to megumi. their shoulders were touching, their thighs pressed together. itadori didn’t seem to care, and megumi couldn’t stop thinking about it.
it was the little moments like this, that sometimes made megumi actively think, i wish he liked me back. i wish we were dating, and he could be my boyfriend, and i would be allowed to touch him whenever i want.
he was starting to crave that closeness more and more these days, and it was frankly kind of worrying. a bit scary. megumi had started feeling all kinds of new things, and it was weird. but he couldn’t help wishing that when itadori sat next to him, he would hold his hand, or lean his head on megumi’s shoulder.
it was pretty fucking stupid. megumi wanted it more than anything.
xxx
kugisaki had started to become someone he could confide in more and more. it was an easy friendship, because she was the one that started the conversation half the time, and teased him so much that he was hardly ever ashamed to talk to her about itadori anymore.
“he’s just so cute, it’s so weird. why the fuck would a person even be, like, endearing? pretty stupid if you ask me,” megumi scowled, remembering the way itadori’s hair looked like when he was fresh out of the shower.
kugisaki was clearly struggling not to say something rude. “if it helps, i personally think he likes you too. you guys spend so much time together. he’s always touching you. always looking out for you,” her voice softened.
“he’s always touching everyone,” megumi scoffed.
“not true,” kugisaki shrugged, and then smirked. “you only think that because you’re used to him being touchy feely with you.”
megumi frowned. “really?”
“it’s not like he sits so close to just anyone that they could practically feel his breath,” she rolled her eyes.
megumi thought about this. maybe she was right, for once.
“and he gets jealous,” kugisaki continued innocently.
no. he would draw the line at this. he didn’t need this much false hope implemented into his suffering brain.
“it’s true,” she tried to argue, “or at least. i think he’s jealous of me. ever since we became friends,”
“well,” megumi huffed, “it’s not like i can tell itadori about how much i like him,”
kugisaki just gave him a look, not saying anything.
(yeah. he could. he...probably should.)

itadori was a complete dumbass. megumi had known this ever since the first time they met, and he’d been reconfirming it every day so far. it was one of itadori’s charm points, megumi argued. he usually found stupid people annoying, but for some reason, when it came to itadori, he was more than happy to watch him being his happy, half-witted self.
today was no different, and for some reason itadori always liked to drag megumi out on their days off, taking them on a mini trip around tokyo. it was a strange development, as kugisaki had usually accompanied them too, but they slowly started going without her more often, until it had become a routine. there were still holidays with kugisaki, but only about half as much as at the start.
today, they were going to watch a movie that had been recently released, that itadori insisted on watching. megumi had to convince his poor brain that it wasn’t a date.
“how did you even hear about this movie?” megumi squinted dubiously at the title while they were in line for tickets. it looked. interesting.
“gojo-sensei said i have to watch it!” itadori stepped forward excitedly to pay for their tickets, before megumi could offer.
“ah. i wouldn’t count on it being too good, then,” megumi murmured.
“hey, gojo-sensei’s taste isn’t that bad, he’s the one that gave me all those movies to watch while i was training with him,” itadori defended.
“yeah, well i’m not surprised that you two like the same movies,” megumi huffed, as if he had a favourite movie or a particularly distinguished taste. nobody needed to know that.
itadori puffed out his cheeks and pouted at him.
“you look ridiculous,” megumi tried to tell him, but he couldn’t look him in the eye.
“you’re so mean,” itadori complained.
“sorry...” megumi said after hesitating. “i’m not really saying bad things about you, though,”
“whatever,” itadori grabbed the popcorn and marched in the direction of the movie.
“hey! wait!” megumi ran after him.
later, halfway through the movie with their popcorn long gone, he supposed it wasn’t all too bad. itadori’s arm was looped around his chair, and he couldn’t tell if it was intentional or not; had no idea what it meant, except that they were sitting too close together, and neither of them were moving away. and he wanted to stay like this for a little longer.
he wasn’t exactly sure why itadori always chose to spend his free days with him, but he was glad for it, glad for moments that he could savour.
xxx
he was a sight to behold, megumi couldn’t be the only one who thought that. even if itadori rejected him—as he surely would—megumi wouldn’t regret it. probably. because he thought itadori deserved to know that someone loved him. after all he’d been through, hopefully it could make him feel just a bit more okay. he was making such a drama out of his stupid one sided high school romance, wasn’t he.
“fushiguro! did you see that?” itadori had come bounding up to him.
“yeah, i did,” megumi said, too quietly. “you’re getting a lot better,”
“thanks!!” itadori replied excitedly.
megumi smiled a private smile to himself. “hey, isn’t it getting kind of hot?”
“huh? wait, shit, you’re right,” itadori peeled his sweat soaked shirt back from his skin. “guess i’ll take this off,”
gojo sighed loudly behind them. kugisaki had already taken her leave. megumi didn’t really care. they were almost done training, anyway.
an hour later, they were finally finished for the day. he couldn’t wait to take a shower and pass out on his bed. megumi knew that he probably wouldn’t sleep well later if he took a nap, so he put on some music and picked up the book on his nightstand. soon after, he started to get hungry, so he wandered into the dorm’s shared kitchen to find itadori already there.
“what are you cooking?” megumi asked with interest.
itadori turned around. “oh, i thought i’d make hotpot,”
megumi slunk closer, seeing him shape familiar meatballs. “what’s that?”
“these are the ones you liked last time,” itadori told him, “i put extra ginger again,”
megumi tried not to look too excited. “i’m starving,” he complained.
itadori smiled (what was that all about?). “don’t worry, fushiguro, this is the last thing i need to prepare,”
“okay,” megumi sighed, but he smiled back slightly. he was acting spoilt, he knew, but he couldn’t help it. it was just too fun to pretend like he was something more to itadori.
he sat at the counter watching itadori work for the next fifteen minutes, and then the others were coming to join them, and the dinner was ready.
“megumi, did you seriously sit here watching yuuji work this whole time without helping?” maki said disapprovingly.
megumi flushed.
“no, no, he only came in a little while before you guys,” itadori waved his hand, “and anyways! i like cooking for him,”
the rest of the table silently blinked at him. it took itadori a few seconds to register his mistake.
“ah, did i say for him? yeah, that was an accident, i meant, i like cooking,” itadori tried to laugh, scratching the back of his head gingerly.
“sure, sure...” panda sighed, changing the topic pityingly.
megumi chewed in slow motion. what was that even supposed to mean? itadori wasn’t meeting his eyes right now.
he did have to say, though, the food was really good today.
(megumi stayed back to help with the dishes, afterwards.)
once he was finished, he went to sit on the couch for a few minutes with a glass of water.
“hey.” a hand on his shoulder made megumi flinch visibly. “oh, sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” the voice laughed nervously. he knew this voice very well.
“hey, itadori,” he greeted.
“what’re you up to?”
“um, nothing, i just sat down,”
“i was gonna put on a movie. wanna watch?” itadori gave him one of his stupid charming grins.
“yeah, why not,” said megumi weakly.
“cool,” itadori flopped down next to him and switched on the tv. megumi was too aware of the way their knees touched.
they were about twenty minutes into the movie, some chick flick that itadori seemed genuinely engaged in, and once again, neither of them had moved. megumi, because he craved their point of contact, and itadori...who knew why he did half the things he did. this was unfair. could it be considered queer baiting? he tried to think of other ways to blame his feelings on itadori.
“fushiguro,” itadori said his name softly. megumi could feel his breath on his face. “what are you thinking about so hard,”
“huh?” megumi scowled. “nothing. just something about you,”
“what?” itadori sounded surprised. megumi bit his tongue, hard. why did he keep saying things he wasn’t meant to?
“i mean, nothing.”
“what the hell? now you have to tell me,” itadori whined, louder.
“no...” megumi tried to say, but itadori was so close to him, and he was getting a bit lost in his eyes. they were so big tonight, looking like two pools of chocolate he could drink, or maybe swim in.
“fushiguro, tell me,” itadori nudged him.
“no, i’m good,” megumi mumbled, praying that it was dark enough that itadori couldn’t see how red his face was becoming.
“well then,” itadori said, and grabbed megumi’s chin with his thumb and forefinger.
megumi’s heart exploded in nervousness, but before he could formulate a coherent reaction, itadori pulled him closer by the chin, and megumi was leaning in to his touch, and then they were kissing.
the first thought he had was just. whoah. did itadori really kiss him right now? on purpose? was it an accident, maybe? was it megumi who had kissed him, influenced by some kind of sick wishful thinking? but before his thoughts could spiral, itadori was licking his lip. what was happening? itadori licked his lip again.
“open your mouth,” he whispered. megumi did as he was told, dazed. itadori started to kiss him carefully, almost too carefully, and his other hand came up to cup megumi’s face. once his poor slow brain finally processed what was happening, megumi was kissing him back. the emotions behind being able to touch itadori like this were so overwhelming that he gasped into their kiss, and itadori pulled back, looking just as dazed as megumi felt.
“i-i’m sorry,” itadori said. megumi’s eyes zeroed in on his lips, shiny with saliva. probably megumi’s own saliva.
“don’t be,” was the only thing he could bring himself to say.
itadori gave him a shy smile. “um, so, now you know i like you, right?”
megumi blinked at him. “what.”
there was an awkward silence.
“you mean...like-like? like romantically?”
itadori gave him a look. “no, i just kissed you for fun, i only think of you as a friend,”
“oh...” megumi’s throat felt tight.
“of course i like-like you, fushiguro, what would even make you think i don’t?” itadori rolled his eyes. “i thought i was supposed to be the dumb one,”
“you really...like me?” megumi frowned. “you mean it?”
“yeah, i mean it. when i look at your beautiful face i just want to kiss you all the time,” itadori breathed.
megumi swatted his face away. “that’s so embarrassing, stop it,”
his heart felt so full from itadori’s words.
“i like you too. i...like you.” he added after a few seconds. “can i kiss you again?”
“of course you can,” itadori smirked. megumi swallowed; that shouldn’t have been so hot. he did kiss him again, scooting closer until he was basically on itadori’s lap. itadori put his hands around his waist this time, pulling him closer. megumi let him lick into his mouth again, and this time, they didn’t break apart. itadori was still being so uncharacteristically careful and slow, as if megumi was someone special. as if megumi was someone he wanted to treasure. megumi’s arms slid down and tightened around his neck. itadori brushed his tongue with his own, and megumi moaned a little, embarrassingly.
itadori grunted, and then he was leaning forward, collapsing megumi’s back against the sofa, leaning on his forearms.
“who told you to stop,” megumi complained, wrapping his legs around itadori’s hips and pressing them closer together.
itadori let out another soft sigh at that, and kissed megumi back hard, sucking on his tongue.
megumi just couldn’t keep quiet, and everything itadori was doing felt like heaven to him.
“wow,” itadori pulled back, “you’re pretty vocal,”
“oh my god,” megumi’s face burned red, “shut up.”
itadori started kissing down his neck, and this was playing out exactly like too many of megumi’s dreams. he ran his fingers up itadori’s back.
“you’re strong,” he mumbled.
itadori looked up. “oh, yeah. i noticed you like that,” he watched megumi’s face loose its colour with satisfaction, “you want me to take off my top?”
megumi bit his lip. “yeah...”
itadori kissed him again. “that’s just so,”
megumi leaned up into his touch. “what?”
“like, endearing,” itadori said bluntly, mouthing megumi’s neck, sucking a hickey onto his skin.
megumi groaned.
“so you think i’m hot,” itadori continued, and megumi could feel his piece of shit smile of his skin.
“obviously,” megumi grunted, hands pushing itadori’s t-shirt up.
“wow,” he grinned, “can’t believe fushiguro megumi thinks i’m hot,”
“itadori...”
“yes?”
“i didn’t say you could stop that,”
“oh,” itadori stared into his eyes for a few seconds, looking dazed. he gave megumi a peck. “you...really like kissing.”
megumi stared at him.
“and...muscles,” itadori said thoughtfully.
“i like you,” megumi sighed excruciatingly. “i just, i really, really like you,” he flushed.
itadori seemed pleased with this answer. “me too,” he admitted, between kisses, “i really fucking like you, too,”
megumi’s heart thudded dully at his reaffirmation. it was too much. the warm way itadori pressed into him, how he kissed him, long and wet. megumi’s chest felt light. his hands crawled back under itadori’s shirt, stroking the smooth skin and firm muscle underneath.
“take it off,” megumi complained, tugging the t-shirt. itadori peeled his mouth away, but just as he sat up to remove it, they both heard a scandalised gasp.
kugisaki stood in the doorway of the common room, eyes darting from the forgotten movie to itadori on top of megumi.
“what is happening.” she stared at them.
megumi froze at the sound of her voice, hiding his face behind itadori.
“oh, um, just, you know, watching a movie...” itadori stammered.
“oh my god,” kugisaki took a last look at them and sighed, turning right back around to where she came from.
megumi scrunched his face up. “that was so awkward,”
itadori looked back down at him, t-shirt now half off. “uh...do you wanna go back to my room? maybe?” he sounded nervous.
megumi detached his limbs from itadori’s. “okay,”
“oh, yeah, okay, cool,” itadori’s face flushed, for some reason. megumi realised that going to itadori’s room probably meant more making out.
he grabbed itadori’s hand. “come on,”
itadori’s fingers squeezed his palm, thumb brushing his hand warmly. megumi almost couldn’t believe this was his reality now, that itadori had feelings for him. he actually wanted to be with him. he didn’t just think megumi was okay, he actually wanted to be close with him.
they stopped at itadori’s door.
“let me just open the door,” itadori said under his breath. he was standing behind megumi, and had to reach around him to get to the door knob. his other hand rested on megumi’s hip.
megumi twisted around to kiss him.
“what was that for?” itadori smiled against his lips. megumi had turned around now.
“you make me so nervous sometimes,” megumi said. it wasn’t really an explanation.
“what?” itadori laughed, both of his hands inconspicuously moving to megumi’s ass. “like scared, or butterflies in your stomach?”
“like...the second one,” megumi allowed, wrapping his arms around itadori’s neck. “lift me up,”
itadori complied, supporting his lower thighs and literally lifting him. megumi didn’t need to do anything at all but stand there. the thought was kind of—exciting.
itadori kissed his cheek, “seriously, fushiguro,”
“what?” megumi squirmed away from his mouth.
“don’t take this the wrong way,” he laughed, “you’re really giving me an ego boost right now,”
megumi scowled at him. “whatever.” he let himself be carried into itadori’s room, the door firmly locked behind them.
xxx
megumi rested his head on itadori’s chest, right on top of his beating heart. itadori took his hand and laced their fingers.
megumi knew he was curious, so he spoke. “hearing your heart beating in your chest is really comforting,”
“ah, right,” itadori said sheepishly, “i’m really sorry i didn’t tell you earlier...”
megumi tutted. “we’ve been through this, i get why you couldn’t,”
“yeah, but still,” itadori mumbled. “and anyway. i missed you, so...”
“oh,” megumi’s heart sped up at the easy admission of affection, “i missed you too...obviously,”
“funny thing,” itadori casually said, “i liked you back then already,”
“what?” megumi lifted his head up.
“yeah,” itadori shrugged. “you didn’t like me back then?”
“well, i did,” megumi admitted, “it’s just that—we could have been together already by now,”
itadori laughed softly. “right, sorry about that,”
“what do you mean?”
“i mean, i could’ve confessed a lot sooner,”
“really?”
“yeah, i guess,” itadori scratched his cheek, “i was just nervous,”
“i don’t know how you can say that when you did it before me,” megumi stared at him. “i guess you just had more confidence,”
“well,” itadori said meekly, “i kinda...knew?”
“what,” megumi said flatly.
“to be fair! you’re not exactly subtle, you know...” itadori was blushing.
“so what you’re actually saying.” megumi gritted his teeth. “is that you knew i liked you this entire time. because i was just that obvious.”
“w-well! not the entire time! i sort of started to figure it out like a month ago,”
“so you knew for a whole month?!”
“at least i confessed!”
“too late,” megumi glared at him, lips turned down in a pout.
“i’m so sorry,” itadori whined, “i promise i’ll make it up to you,”
“yeah?” megumi sat up in his lap.
“promise,” itadori whispered again, kissing his lips.
i love you, thought megumi.

megumi had ended up staying over in itadori’s room for the night, just sleeping next to each other. when they emerged the next day, it went unnoticed; their rooms were right next to each other anyway, and nobody else was awake enough to pay attention. itadori had quickly started up a habit of discreetly holding megumi’s hand whenever he had the opportunity. it was kind of embarrassing, but he couldn’t in all honesty admit to disliking it. besides, they hadn’t been caught yet.
now, it was their last hour of school, and gojo was giving them advice at the end their daily training, and itadori was clearly itching to get up and move around. he was bouncing his leg up and down impatiently, and without bothering to look at megumi, he reached for his hand and entangled their fingers. though he was refusing to look at him, megumi could see a slight flush to his cheeks. he squeezed itadori’s hand reassuringly.
it was only the first years today, so of course kugisaki’s eyes zeroed in on the small movement, having nobody else to really look at.
“hey,” she whispered, practically jabbing megumi in the ribs, “what’s going on?”
megumi tried to ignore her, but she kept poking him harder. it was starting to hurt. even gojo-sensei had spared them a steely look.
“what,” he whispered back reluctantly.
kugisaki gave him a look. “i think you know what,” she said flatly.
“hey!” gojo-sensei gave them a huge smile. “what’s going on over there?”
megumi shivered. (gojo could be scary.) itadori stroked his knuckles with his thumb.
“nothing,” mumbled kugisaki disappointedly.
“class is almost over, you guys,” gojo reminded them, before going back to whatever it is he’d been saying.
megumi wouldn’t know. he wasn’t exactly paying attention. how was he supposed to? itadori had turned to look at him, and he hadn’t looked away yet for the past two minutes.
god, this was stupid. he felt like the sappiest guy in the world right now. or maybe the luckiest guy in the world. (ugh.) and when their eyes met, he couldn’t help the smile that stretched leisurely across his face. itadori was letting go of his hand now to cup his face. megumi was about to close his eyes when the realisation hit him. he quickly shoved itadori’s hand down in a cold sweat.
“not here,” he whispered through gritted teeth.
itadori’s eyes widened as he took in his surroundings. “oh, shit, sorry...”
“it’s okay,” megumi couldn’t help but take his hand again discretely, shuffling closer so that his body hid their entwined fingers.
itadori peeked at him shyly.
“you’re so stupid,” megumi snorted.
“what was that for?” itadori whispered back indignantly.
“no reason,” he shook his head, watching itadori huff and refocus on gojo’s lecture.
and as it turned out, gojo had just finished speaking, so megumi quickly dropped his hand before anyone’s attention could turn to them.
xxx
“stop, i’m busy,” itadori complained, but there was no bite to his tone, so megumi chose to ignore him, slipping a palm inside his hoodie and up the planes of itadori’s abs.
“do you want me to ruin the food,” itadori said, leaning back into megumi’s touch anyway.
“i know you won’t,” megumi rolled his eyes, other hand coming to slide up itadori’s hoodie as well.
“i am very reliable,” he contemplated jokingly. megumi hummed in agreement.
“hey, no, you’re not supposed to say yes! that’s you, you’re the reliable one,” itadori laughed at megumi’s apparent stupidity.
“mm, i think you have your moments,” megumi said, fingers running up and down his chest as he leaned his head on itadori’s shoulder from behind.
itadori flushed. “well, maybe,” he conceded.
not satisfied, megumi squeezed his torso tighter, leaning all his weight on his boyfriend.
“you’re heavy,” itadori grunted with exaggeration.
“i know you can take me,” megumi quirked his eyebrow.
“yeah, okay, i can,” itadori allowed smugly, finally turning around in megumi’s hold and abandoning the half chopped carrot. he picked him up by the thighs, in that way megumi liked, allowing him to wrap his legs firmly around itadori’s waist.
“hey,” itadori mumbled, pressing their foreheads together.
“hi,” megumi said, allowing himself to smile a little, a hand cupping the side of itadori’s face. “your hair looks good like this,” he commented idly, observing the pink hair pushed back from itadori’s face. he looked a bit like when sukuna gained control of his body. just a bit.
“it was kinda bothering me while i was cooking,” itadori elaborated, “why, should i wear it like this more often?”
megumi bit his lip lightly. honestly, it was hot.
“mmm, you think so?” itadori gave him a grin.
“what?” megumi’s eyes opened fully. “i—said that out loud?”
itadori met his eyes for a split second, and then started laughing. “oh my god, you’re such a dork sometimes,”
“sorry...” megumi frowned.
“it’s very endearing,” itadori promised earnestly. “kinda humanising. you hardly ever ‘slip up,’ ”
“well, you know what they say. never meet your heroes,” megumi said sarcastically. to his internal delight, itadori laughed again.
“sorry, i just couldn’t resist you,” he smiled back coyly.
“oh yeah?” megumi’s heart fluttered at their banter.
“you’re just too handsome,” itadori mumbled against his lips.
megumi exhaled softly, allowing itadori to sit him down on the island counter as they kissed.
“i should finish cooking dinner,” itadori groaned after a while.
“that can wait,” megumi tried to insist, arms tightening around his neck.
“it already has,” itadori said reluctantly.
“but what about me,” megumi allowed himself a moment of clinginess.
“we spend aaaaall day together,” itadori smiled.
“but not together together,” megumi disagreed.
“what do you mean?” itadori grinned.
“like...you know.”
“use your words, megumi,”
megumi relaxed at the use of his given name. “like, kissing and stuff,”
“you mean you wanna spend all day doing that?” itadori looked suddenly flustered.
“yeah,” megumi said incredulously. who wouldn’t?
“ah,” itadori covered his face. “you can’t just say things like that, megumi,”
“well…how else am i gonna get you to pay attention to me?” megumi grumbled, Itadori’s use of his given name not slipping past his notice.
itadori gave him a strange look. “do i not pay attention to you?” he was smiling now.
“i mean, you do,” megumi craned his neck away from him. why did he make that stupid comment? how was he supposed to tell itadori that he wanted to spend every minute with him, close enough to fit inside his skin? megumi thought that was probably really weird.
itadori crowded him against the counter once more. “no, i get it,” he said, pressing a kiss to his neck, “i love paying attention to you anyway,”
megumi felt stupid and embarrassed at being so clingy. but ever since he’d discovered he was allowed to do it, and itadori indulged him, it became his weakness. it had only been around three weeks since they had first kissed, but it felt like a lot longer. megumi felt so close to him. it was like they’d mutually agreed to take the next step in their relationship without officially taking it, and he was more than okay with that.
“you’re actually a big baby, aren’t you,” itadori laughed, kissing him again. megumi squirmed away from him, annoyed.
“no.”
“a massive softie,” itadori reaffirmed affectionately.
“stop,” megumi tried to protest.
“my baby,” itadori said, eyes warming as he watched megumi process this pet name. they had never called each other anything other than their names before.
megumi said nothing, which itadori took for non verbal acceptance.
as the rest of the students started streaming in to see what was for dinner, kugisaki sniffed distastefully at them.
“ugh, you guys are so cheesy, do this shit in your own room,” she complained. she was the only one who bothered to even comment on them anymore. she was probably still sour from all the times she’d caught them getting a little too friendly.
old news, thought megumi, finally allowing itadori to get back to cooking. he didn’t hate the idea of that. it had only been less than a month since they got together, but he was really starting to wish nothing would ever change. he knew the life of a jujutsu sorcerer was short but eventful, but itadori made him want a long, uneventful life. together.
