Summary:

See the problem is.

The problem is that-

He doesn’t have feelings.

Notes:

I'm not really sure where this came from, but I thought it was good and decided to share it. Hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

See the problem is.

The problem is that--

He doesn’t have feelings.

At least, he says he doesn’t. But--

But all that stuff with The Victory. He was worried. That’s what Doctor Crusher said. Well, actually, she said that he said, “I am strongly motivated to solve this mystery.” Because of me. Or something like that.

And that’s normal, right? We’re friends. We’re best friends, we should be worried about each other. I mean, when he was kidnapped by Fajo, I was worried. Really worried. But that was mostly cause no one believed me until it was almost too late.

So, being worried about your friends is normal. Even if that friend is an android who claims to not have any feelings.

But.

But his face. When he saw me. It couldn't have been more than a glimpse of me, but the look on his face -- “It was worth a wound...”

That’s a terrible thing to say, isn't it? But it was true. There’s not a lot I wouldn’t do to see that look again, that look that makes it hard to believe all that “no feelings” crap.

He was shocked. No other word for it, I mean, he thought I was dead; he was at my and Ro’s funeral, of course he would be shocked.

I wanted to hug him. After he got us back. I wanted to hug him really bad. And I think he wanted to hug me too. And want is a feeling.

Right?

I don’t know why I didn’t. I think most people think that he would be cold. He’s not. All the times I’ve worked on repairing him, he’s been warm. I bet it would be nice. To hug him, I mean.

Maybe that’s why I didn’t. Maybe I was, you know. Scared. That I wouldn’t be able to let go.

Jeez, that sounded really cheesy.

It’s true though. Man, I should listen to Deanna. Just -- just tell him, you know? Get it off my chest.

No, no, no, what? Am I completely insane? “Geordi, you are my best friend, but, as you know, I am an android, and cannot reciprocate your feelings.”

Or, or –- ha. It could be worse. “Yes, Geordi, I am aware of your romantic feelings toward me. It is clear to see, given the increase in your pulse and respiration rate whenever we are in close proximity”

No, he wouldn’t say that. He'd be nice, and caring, and he would let me down easy, and I would just fall in love with him more, and –- damn. I am so screwed.

Notes:

uhh yeah so that's that. The "It was worth a wound" quote is from the Sherlock Holmes story 'The Three Garridebs' and I thought it was especially fitting here. The full quote is actually "It was worth a wound - it was worth many wounds - to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask." and Watson thinks that right after he gets shot and Holmes totally flips out.

I hope you enjoyed, kudos and comments are always welcome and appreciated <3
