Let's Steal a Yakuza

Summary:

In a world where omegas are supposed to be frail delicate things to be taken care of, Yamaguchi and his friends are a band of thieves who steal for the right reasons. A lot of the times its to stick it to the alphas who run the world and push the rest of them around, but sometimes its to help their fellow omegas, destined to be treated like second class citizens in their world. In what was supposed to be a big score, Yamaguchi and the gang find themselves at the mercy of the Karasuno Family, a yakuza with a reputation not to be messed with. But that's never stopped them before. Will they be able to get themselves out of the tangled web of the yakuza world and at the end of it all, will they even want to?

Notes:

I was deep in the Haikyuu fandom after years and came across 'Hunter and Hunted' by FantasyFreak_2 and happened to be rewatching Leverage in prep for the new revival. This is the product of all of these coming together and what was supposed to just be a fun spoof for myself turned into a much bigger project than I realized. But I could so easily see them all fitting into the rolls. Oikawa as a grifter, Shouyou as the thief, Kenma as their hacker and Yamaguchi as the man with the plan who is the most confident when planning a heist. Ennoshita I also planned to come in at a later chapter as part of the team but the overall concept was just too fun to let sit in my head. This has been flowing pretty well so I hope to finish this one and then go back and finish up my other works in progress but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Make sure you check out the fic that inspired this one, I am personally eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Also I have no beta right now so please bare with me as I still catch some of the mistakes.

Chapter 1: The Best Laid Plans of Thieves and Omegas

Chapter Text

“Come on Yams, I know you’ve got a plan brewing. You know you can get us in and out without getting caught. I know you can!” Shouyou cheered, slapping his friend on the back. Yamaguchi sighed and looked over the blue prints on the TV screen again, this time really focusing on the bigger picture. It took him a moment but a loose plan began to come together.

“The cameras don’t cover this stretch of wall, they think it’s out of reach. But if Sho can get over it, and Kenma, you can loop their security feeds to give him some cover to get across the courtyard… Oikawa can you get through the front and keep the door guards distracted and off the cameras, their attention should already be split with the party guests. That should let Sho get through the hallway to the right room. From there it should be a smooth grab. I’ll blend in with the wait staff to provide more eyes and give you a heads up when they are on the move.” Yamaguchi said, pacing back and forth, the details becoming clearer as he went on. Oikawa smirked and leaned back on the table, flipping his hair confidently.

“Of course I can, they won’t even know what hit them. Alphas just love to help poor lost omegas who just wander in.” Oikawa said, already mentally picking out the perfect outfit.

“It won’t be so easy, I can only cover any outside calls for so long. If someone sees you and calls the police, I won’t be able to stop it. There are too many possible leak points with all the guests.” Kenma pointed out, his head sticking up from his computer station.

“Then I’ll just have to be quick,” Shouyou reassured confidently. Kenma’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t press the issue. They all knew the risks. In a world like this, where omegas were second class citizens, meant to be meek and kept like delicate creatures. They were taking a big risk. But someone had to stick up for them, someone had to take down the alpha’s who took advantage of people. That someone was them. They each had a person stake in this, had their own stories, their own nightmares. It drove them, pushed them past what anyone would have thought possible.

“We will all need to be careful. Stealing from yakuza, from the Karasuno family in particular is a risk. They have a reputation for making sure anyone who crosses them regrets it.” Yamaguchi cautioned. Knowing all the risks was his job but he couldn’t shake the feeling that this one would be different. But they couldn’t put this off any longer, the clock was ticking. They had been alerted to a black market sell list of omegas who had been kidnapped and were about to be sold off to the highest bidder. The auction was coming up in a few days and while the thought of breaking into the Karasuno family house was daunting, but with that list they would be able to find those stolen omegas first and free them.

“It’s a big job, but if we don’t do this tonight then those omegas will be in the wind, sold off like property. This party provides us the ideal cover, let’s not waste it.” Yamaguchi said in a stronger voice than he felt. This would work, it had in the past and they always had the power of surprise. Everyone underestimated an omega.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The house was big and swanky and entirely overprotected: Oikawa’s favorite type of place to break into. He picked out the perfect combination of summer casual, a light blue button down and those jeans that showed off his ass just right. It never failed to A) get him at least 3 free drinks per bar and B) into just about any room he wanted. It was a little casual for this occasion, but there was no arguing with results. He picked his way carefully up the expansive drive way, dodging party guests in their frilly summer dresses and sharp sports coats. He usually hated these types of parties, fakes laughs, pretend relaxed conversation and deals made behind doors by alphas who only cared for making themselves richer. He had dipped in and out of enough of them to know how this would work. At some point after appetizers and just enough light drinks, the alphas would kiss their mates patronizingly and head off for cigars and whiskey to talk about their dark dark deeds. Well they were in for a fun party tonight.

He made it up to the open double doors of the grand house where just inside to the left he knew the door to the security camera room would be. As he crossed the threshold he tapped the miniscule ear bud in his ear and with a soft beep the com line opened.

“Heading to the eagle nest, Kenma you ready with the loop?” He mused.

“Ready. Sho, you ready for the jump?” Kenma answered.

“Ready!” Shouyou chirped.

“Alright guys, Oikawa is starting his run, let’s keep it tight.” Yamaguchi said.

Oikawa put on his most demur smile and gracefully walked up to the security room and turned the knob, swinging the door open and taking a stumble inside, inevitably leading him to landing into a broad, strong chest. He lazily smiled up at the tall alpha with short, dark hair and an unimpressed face.

“Oh, I’m so sorry, they told me this was the bathroom. I got all turned around. I’ve never been great with directions,” he purred, trying to lace his voice with just enough tipsy. The alpha guard gripped his arms lightly and raised an unimpressed eyebrow. A quick glance behind him revealed an impressive security set up, several cameras and a well-equipped station. But what really made his toes curl was the lack of another guard. Just the one? Oh this would be too much fun, especially since the guard was so cute, Oikawa thought.

“This is literally as far from the bathroom as you could get. Who pointed you here?” the alpha asked in a sharp tone. Oh how Oikawa loved when they played hard to get, he pressed up closer to the man’s chest and tried to make his eyes look bigger. There was a delicious smell of wet earth and dark spices that tickled Oikawa’s nose. But he was never one to fall for a pretty face or smell.

“Oh I couldn’t tell you their name, they were so forgettable, unlike you. You, I could just jump here,” Oikawa said. He could hear Yamaguchi give the ‘go’ through his ear bud and had to keep himself from laughing, he loved this part.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouyou flexed and stretched his muscles, then took a deep breath before taking a running start from the tree line to the concrete wall of the mansion. A 9ft tall wall should have been intimidating but Shouyou laughed a little as he built speed, took a quick two step up, grabbed the edge of the top and with his momentum, swung himself over the spikes and to the other side. He curled himself up into a ball to roll a little onto the grass in the courtyard, stopping halfway to the door. Standing up and shaking the grass out of his hair, he pulled up the hood of his jacket. Nothing like bright orange hair to practically shout ‘pay attention and remember me’. He dashed to the door across the small lawn and smiled at the basic two lock system. They must rely on those walls way too much. A soft click and he was in.

Inside the halls were lined with plush carpet that muffled his footsteps and landscape paintings on each wall. Shouyou only took a moment to admire what must have been really expensive paintings before he focused up and took stock of his surroundings.

“Kenma, a little help here,” He whispered into his earbud. The hallways all had a similar look and layout and he knew that he didn’t have the time to get turned around.

“Keep going that way, take your third right, then the first door on the left should be the room you are looking for,” Kenma’s soft voice guided him. Shouyou followed the instructions, instinctively glancing up at the roving security cameras at the end of each hallway. It made him nervous but he trusted Kenma to hide him from prying eyes and Oikawa to act as a second layer of security in keeping the guards distracted.

He swung around the last corner only to abruptly pull back. There was a guard at the door. He peaked back again. A cute guard. A cute alpha guard who had a scary look on his face. Shouyou sighed and thought over his options, then hadn’t anticipated a guard here this early in the party and Shouyou wasn’t much of a hitter. He didn’t have Oikawa’s charm or control over his pheromones to try and overwhelm him. Looks like he was gonna do this the old fashion way. He took a deep breath and remembered the moves that Ennoshita taught him. He turned the corner and walked straight at the guard who looked surprised to see anyone before making a move for what had to be a gun at his hip. He paused as Shouyou got closer and his smell came on him which was all Shouyou needed to shove him over and jump on top of him. He pinned the stunned alpha and grinned down at him.

“Sorry, but you’re in the way,” He winked and then head butt him as hard as he could muster. The alpha conked out before he could respond and Shouyou stood, feeling more than a little proud of himself. He happily bounced over to the door and began to work his magic on the lock.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kageyama Tobio was not having the best day. He already hated these parties, hated the guests with their fake laughs and simpering conversation. Daichi had insisted these events were important to remind their friends and foes of their power and connections but really it felt like a whole exercise in frustration. Being part of the Karasuno family meant a lot of things. It meant honor and strength and being willing to put yourself on the line for your family. They may have shady dealings but they always kept their word, always had each other’s back and always looked out for what was theirs. Kageyama never really thought he would end up as a yakuza enforcer, but honestly it was what felt right. He was good at it, had a good team to work with and never had to worry about playing by the rules of a world that had long shown him just how awful and cruel it could be to those who were alone. Daichi had saved him, gave him a home and a family. So if that meant a couple times a year he had to attend these inane parties and find a way to be useful he would.

Really he was supposed to be mingling and making pleasantries with people but one look at his face had always sent them running. He never tried to be ‘scary’ and always secretly thought that if he had to have a terrifying resting face he was at least in the right line of work for it. He only lasted an hour before Daichi sighed and asked him to wait by the meeting room to ensure no funny business happened. It was really just busy work but Kageyama would much rather be here alone with his thoughts. It was a pleasant mind numbing experience until…

What was that smell? It was like…oranges and cinnamon and… Kageyama couldn’t quite place it but it was warm and welcoming. It was the best thing he had ever smelled. But before he could really begin to process this, a small orange blur came at him. He instinctively reached for the gun at his hip but before he could he was flat on his back on the floor. Above him was messy orange hair, a pair of bright hazel eyes and a wide smile. He didn’t even really here the person on top of him speak, he was too caught up in the citrus and spice smell coming from what had to be an omega.

He really should have been paying more attention. The abrupt knock to the head made his vision swim and he swear he saw stars behind his eyes for a moment as shooting pain was the only thing he could focus on. He felt the weight on him lift and heard the soft click of a lock before he could muster himself to open his eyes and stand. Well he wanted to be useful and god forbid anyone, most of all Tsukishima, he would never hear the end of it. He growled, stood, and swinging the door open he saw the short omega rifling through papers on Daichi’s desk. The soft glow of the fire from the fireplace almost made it feel like he had interrupted an intimate scene. The omega looked up as he entered and frowned.

“You couldn’t have just stayed down? You’re gonna make this difficult, huh?” He sounded frustrated, like Kageyama was the one putting him out for interrupting his theft. He shoved a handful of papers in the pocket of his jacket and moved in front of Kageyama, slipping into a fighting stance.

“Dumbass you’re the one trying to rob us!” Kageyama hissed, shifting his own feet to be ready this time. He may have been caught off guard the first time but he wouldn’t go down so easily this time. He slipped his hand into his suit jacket pocket and felt for his phone, punching in a three digit code he knew without having to look. It would alert Hajime in the security room to put the building on alert. But in the meantime, he sent a feral grin at the short omega in front of him. He charged forward swinging a right hook, but the omega gave a quick duck and swung his fist to hit Kageyama’s stomach. Kageyama caught this and pulled the orange haired omega towards him, hoping to fully restrain him. Before he could solidify his grip, the omega dropped all his weight and tumbled out of his reach. He gave a quick glance behind him and then back at Kageyama, who was already advancing, before making for the open door at a break neck speed. Kageyama pursued, now pulling his phone out and hitting the speed dial for Hajime’s personal phone. He started talking as soon as he heard the answering click.

“We have an intruder in the lower level, he’s got some documents. I’m on him, but lock down the exits!”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kenma cursed softly under his breath as he overheard the internal call over the phone taps he had set up. Shouyou didn’t have a lot of time to get out between the engaging of the security system and the exits being blocked off. He was now only relying on Oikawa to keep the guard from activating the system. Kenma felt so useless in the van parked two blocks away from the grand house. They really should have taken more time with this job, he could have planted a virus in the system to allow him backdoor access to the security mainframe. But there was such a short time table between the news of this list and the date of the actual auction. It all felt too rushed. Kenma had thought there was something off about this but he knew they weren’t in too much of a place to question their sources when a golden piece of info like this had been so rare and valuable in the first place.

“Oikawa, Shouyou has been spotted and is making a break, keep stalling. Yamaguchi you need to begin making your way towards the exit, the window between activation and lock down is a tight one.” Kenma warned through his headset. This whole thing was gonna end badly, he could just feel it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yamaguchi fought to keep a worried frown off his face as he weaved his way through the crowd, carefully balancing a tray with several glasses of champagne on it. They hadn’t been expecting a guard at the study room door and Shouyou was a thief, not a hitter. He could out run any of them but that relied on there being an exit to get too or at least more knowledge of the building beforehand. He looked around the vast veranda filled with guests who flitted in and out onto the patio. He had to find a stall, a distraction. If he could time it right with Kenma, just enough chaos could get them all out in one piece. He must have been too lost in thoughts when he felt an imbalance on the tray he was carrying and stumbled not the drop it.

“Must be new to be so clumsy when you only have to carry one thing,” came a biting sarcastic remark. Yamaguchi turned to see a very tall man in a fitted suit with short blonde hair and sharp eyes assessing him out of glasses.

“Yeah, new,” Yamaguchi laughed awkwardly, “Sorry sir, won’t happen again. I’m, uh, just not used to so many people.”

“Then you certainly picked a fine line of work, catering large parties,” said the stranger, one frosty eyebrow raised. Yamaguchi’s eyes flickered to meet his, assessing him for a moment before remembering who he was supposed to be. A nervous waiter and a demur klutz.

“Well what can I say: ‘excellence is not an art. It is the habit of practice’,” Yamaguchi quoted by heart before he could stop himself. Now the stranger, definitely an alpha if the notes of woody earth and aged paper was anything to go by, had both eyebrows raised in surprise. He got the feeling that whoever this was, he wasn’t surprised very often.

“Not many people quote Aristotle so casually,” the tall alpha said with what could have been a lightly impressed tone. Yamaguchi felt the back of his neck begin to prickle, he was supposed to be blending in and not standing out. He hadn’t meant to throw that quote out. Stuff like that had always been automatic with him, from years of learning and retaining information by just seeing it once and having it stay in his mind forever. The tall alpha took a step closer to him and opened his mouth to say something before a voice called out:

“Tsukishima, over here,”

The distraction was just the right amount of time to allow Yamaguchi to slip away into the crowd smoothly and blend with the rest of the wait staff. He stepped into a corner by the refreshment table and made to look like he was refilling his tray. He had already spotted his distraction opportunity. Daichi Sawamura, head of the Karasuno family was standing and talking with a small crowd, and he was holding an empty glass.

“Kenma, on my go, set off the fire alarm, the rest of you use it to get out and regroup at the van. Shouyou shake your tail and see if you can meet up with Oikawa at the front as our exit.” Yamaguchi instructed confidently. What did it say about him that he only really had confidence when directing a theft? He didn’t pause to ponder that as he made his way to the head of a ruthless yakuza leader and plastered on a fake smile. He weaved his way to the group and made an unobtrusive entrance, doing his best to not look like he had a thought in his head.

“Refill sir?” He asked in an even tone. The tall, intimidating man barely glanced at him before nodding and moving to change out his glass with a full one. Yamaguchi moved and faked a trip, spilling the glasses onto the next man over. A bald man with an expressive face who started cursing a storm when he got splashed with the champagne.

“Fucking shit, how does this always happen to me?” the bald man moaned, stomping his foot.

“Because you are a walking disaster waiting to happen,” laughed the short, spikey haired man standing next to him as he slapped him on the back.

“I’m so sorry sir, here let me go get you some more napkins,” Yamaguchi said hurriedly, giving slight emphasis on the word ‘go’. The group had only seemed to just now really acknowledge his presence when a piercing alarm began to blare from the house. Never let it be said Kenma didn’t have exemplary timing. He used the moment when all their turned to the source of the alarm to slip away and make his way towards the large double door entrance. As he moved, he tugged the apron, tie and vest off, leaving him with just a white button down and black pants, much less conspicuous. He was just turning to the front foyer when an iron grip caught his wrist. Yamaguchi was pulled into a firm chest and his nose was immediately filled with the smell of musty old paper and woody earth. He looked up into familiar cool eyes that had not a hint of humor in them, but definitely some measure of respect.

“Alright, now you have my attention,”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oikawa loved a good grift. It was what made life fun and brought the zest to everyday. He especially loved a challenge like the tall, dark drink of water in front of him. For a moment he was actually worried he had stumbled across the one alpha who would deny him, but the moment he caught the alpha’s eye linger on his ass he knew he had him. As much as he would love to stay and play longer he knew time was coming up short. He had managed to juggle enough of the guard’s attention that he paid the actual cameras no more than a quick glance before continuing to try and convince Oikawa that this was not a good place to get down and dirty.

“Really at this point you are just running out of excuses. Are you saying you really don’t want me? And here I thought I wouldn’t have to be all by my lonesome,” Oikawa purred, grinning like the cat who caught the canary.

Iwaizumi Hajime for his part, was at least equal parts annoyed and attracted to this brazen omega who had waltzed into his security room and practically thrown his scent at him. The smell of clean laundry with a hint of lavender was heavy in the air and for a moment he found it hard to breath. Hard to think. Hard to remember exactly why he wanted this cute, tall, bold omega to leave.

“I think whoever left you all by your lonesome was just out of self-defense,” Hajime cracked, shaking his head a little to try and clear it. He tried to put some distance between him and the omega by moving back to the camera station. Had he even gotten his name? He couldn’t remember even asking. But the omega stepped up with him, perching on the camera desk, blocking his view of the east hallways. He was just about to forcibly move him off when his phone began to buzz in his pocket. He fished it out and saw that he had missed an alert but that Kageyama was calling him. He turned from the omega and answered.

Oikawa had just began to make his exit from the distracted guard, if Shouyou was heading this way he should almost be here, when a the guard’s hand shot out and pinned his wrist to the desk.

“Oh now so forward,” Oikawa teased, purposefully trying to keep his voice light. But the guard wasn’t smiling or even looking confused any more. He had a hard look on his face and Oikawa had been around the block enough to know now was time to boogie. He moved towards the alpha and pushed as much of his scent at his as he could muster which caused the tall alpha to cough and loosen his grip just enough for Oikawa to slip free. He was just about to grab the door knob when he was tackled from behind. The tall alpha had pulled up his shirt to cover his nose. He tightened his grip on Oikawa with one hand before reaching into a pocket in his jacket and pulling out a small vial. Oikawa began to struggle in earnest when the alpha pushed the rubber stopper off and held the vial under Oikawa’s nose. His head began to swim and his vision went dark quickly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouyou was so close he could feel it. They hadn’t had time to get the full blueprints of the mansion but he could tell after years of his own theft experience he had to be getting close to the front door. If he could get to a crowd he might have a better chance of slipping away because the tall angry faced alpha was hot on his tail. He weaved and dodged as best as he could, swinging around the corners of the expansive estate. He had just spotted a large sitting room that had to be a way out of this maze of hallways when he made the mistake of pausing too long to see if there was another door in the room. He didn’t even have the time to process as he was smashed into from behind and he and the alpha rolled a few times with the dark haired man landing on top. He gave a vicious but victorious grin down at Shouyou as he struggled to break free.

“Hah! I win this round, dumbass. Thought you could steal from us and get away with it,” Kageyama crowed. He held the orange haired omega’s wrists tightly with one of his hands while the other held his shoulder down to keep him from bucking him off. If Shouyou was going down, he wasn’t going down without a fight. Even if he had a cute alpha who smelled so good on top of him. These were the bad guys! He struggled harder and even tried to head butt him again only for the alpha to pull back some.

“I am not falling for that again,” he hissed. But the pullback had given Shouyou enough freedom to slip and hand free and flail his arm trying to find some leverage. Instead what he found was an exceptionally large and he was sure, expensive vase, the came crashing down on the both of them. The vase fell a little short of ideal, shattering across Shouyou’s head and throwing several shards at both of them. The sudden and sharp impact had knocked Shouyou out and he went limp against the ground, panicking Kageyama. He hadn’t meant for the omega…the thief, he had to remember this was a thief, to get really hurt, had he? But passed out beneath him, the omega look so soft and pretty. Kageyama shook those thoughts out of his head and got up, pulling the omega up with him. Time to get this sorted out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Kenma was really starting to panic. No one was answering their coms, he had been officially locked out of the security system. Tt would take time to get another run at it. He slumped back in his seat in the van feeling like he had failed his only friends in the world. He allowed himself an unusual moment of panic trying to pick out a plan. He didn’t have Shouyou’s athleticism or Yamaguchi’s plan, forget about Oikawa's smooth manners. He was the computer man, he understood those best, all cold logic and puzzle. But these were his friends, his family, he had to do something. Kenma mustered up his courage and trying to calm the rising tide of panic that knotted his stomach. He stood up, grabbed his phone and began to make his way to the back of the van when the backdoor swung open. For a brief, albeit foolish, moment he hoped more than anything it would be all three of them on the other side, congratulating each other on a job well done. But instead it was a tall lanky man with messy hair and a lazy smile. Behind him was an equally strange man with gray and black hair who was bouncing on the balls of his feet with anticipation.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here? A lost kitten?” The tall black haired man said, his grin becoming impossibly wider. Kenma glanced between what he could now easily guess were two tall and strong alphas and finally let the panic in him take over. His breaths became shorter and harder to get out as he tried to playout every scenario of what could happen and none of them were good for him.

“Wow, calm down, we ain’t gonna hurt ya, too bad,” The multicolored haired alpha laughed darkly. And that was it for Kenma, he couldn’t handle this. It brought back too many horrifying memories and nightmares. His vision began to dim and he crumpled on the spot, the alpha with the black spikey hair catching him before he could fall to the floor.

“Jesus Bo, did you have to scare him that much?” Kuroo Tetsuro sighed, lifting up the small omega easily. He was so light but Kuroo knew the moment he caught that scent from down the block he was lovely.

“I mean he is a thief, right? Isn’t that our job?” Bokuto Kotaro huffed.

“Well let’s get him inside. I’m sure Dad-chi will love the little gift we have for him,” Kuroo said as he shifted the omega in his arms to a more comfortable position. He was really cute, so small and delicate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tall blonde alpha led Yamaguchi further into the house, not letting up on his iron grip once. Yamaguchi knew that now was not the time to struggle but to look for an exit, any exit. Hopefully the rest of the gang had gotten out. He kept track of the various twists and turns of the hallways, making sure to memorize their pathing. Finally the blonde alpha stopped short before a door and glanced back at Yamaguchi.

“For someone so smart, it was really idiotic to try and steal from us,” the alpha said without a hint of emotion. Yamaguchi bristled at this and looked the alpha right in his steely but inquisitive eyes.

“Not if it’s for the right cause. And I wouldn’t count us out yet,” Yamaguchi said with far more confidence than the situation warranted. The alpha only smirked before pushing the door open and revealing to Yamaguchi just how truly fucked him and his friends were right now. Each passed out and handcuffed to a chair was Kenma, Oikawa and Shouyou. He felt the pit of his stomach drop and let himself be pushed into a chair. He heard the click of handcuffs and a light tug told him he was joining his friends in captivity. The room had the same group of men Yamaguchi had seen with the yakuza head earlier with a couple of additions. Daichi himself sat in a large plush chair behind a desk, the fire behind Yamaguchi giving the room an eerie glow. The head of the Karasuno family had an impassive face and looked over each of them before settling on Yamaguchi as the only one currently conscious.

“Well I am sure this has got to be a fascinating story of how four omegas tried to waltz into my home and steal my property. Please, do tell,” the mob boss said in an intimidating voice. Yamaguchi steeled himself and tried to give a brave face. He knew his scent, stressed and weak, would give him away but he wouldn’t let them see him break. He had been through worse.

“What did you do to them?” Yamaguchi asked, brazenly ignoring the man’s question to instead focus on his friends who were still unconscious.

“They’ll live,” snickered the short man Yamaguchi had seen at the party earlier.

“Now the boss asked you a question, I suggest you answer it,” snarled the bald man who still had champagne stains on his suit jacket.

“I could make you tell me,” Daichi said coolly, not yet dipping into the command of an alpha voice, the same voice that almost all omegas felt biologically compelled to obey. Yamaguchi burst out an involuntary fit of laughter at that one, he shouldn’t have been surprised that this threat was thrown out early.

“You certainly wouldn’t be the first to try nor the first to fail,” Yamaguchi looked the alpha leader dead in the eyes. If he hadn’t known this man was a slave trader, he might have been a kind looking man. There were a lot of crimes he could forgive, hell he had committed plenty of them himself. But the buying and selling of people, his people, was never going to be one of them. Daichi sighed before standing up, bringing the rest of the yakuza in the room to attention.

“We’ll give you a few moments to contemplate your options while we clean up the mess you made. Just remember, you aren’t getting out of here. We caught you before and we can and will do it again. Tanaka, Noya, guard the door.” With this pronouncement, Daichi left the room, the trail of yakuza following after him. The tall blonde alpha who had caught him gave Yamaguchi once last searching look before being the last to leave. The door’s deadbolt was a loud, ominous thunk that seemed to echo in the room.

“Took them long enough to leave,” came a grumbling reply. Yamaguchi startled to see Oikawa awake and shifting in his seat. “That asshole chloroformed me! Who keeps chloroform on hand?”

“Kawa too loud,” Came Shouyou’s whine. He also seemed to be waking up and just noticing their predicament. He stretched his arms upwards and stood up, shaking his head.

“I see you already freed yourself,” Oikawa drawled.

“Oh yeah, that was a good wake up exercise. They should really get better cuffs, these are really cheap ones, like the ones the cops use,” Shouyou said as he began to examine the room, looking for their best exit point.

“Care to tend to the rest of us,” Oikawa said while shaking his own handcuffs. Shouyou looked sheepish for a second, then got to unlock the rest of them. Once Yamaguchi was free he rushed to Kenma’s side and look his friend over. No visible damage, looks like he was either also subject to chloroform or had potentially just passed out due to sheer anxiety once everything began to go south. Yamaguchi shook his friend’s shoulder gently trying to rouse him. This escape was going to be a lot harder if they had to carry Kenma. Kenma started, then upon noticing it was Yamaguchi relaxed.

“Right now that everyone is present, what is our out here?” Oikawa asked.

“Looks like the vents are too small, even for me. Door is bolted and has two guards and we have no windows to work with,” Shouyou began to list automatically.

“And we have all been made. Kenma do you still have a phone on hand, maybe you can get a message out to Ennoshita,” Yamaguchi asked. Kenma felt through his pockets before shaking his head negative. Yamaguchi sighed, they must have already taken all their equipment. A soft knock on the door startled the group and they all rushed into place, feigning continued captivity. In walked a lovely silver haired man with curios grey eyes and a concerned look on his face. His smell was, soft, like fresh rain. Clearly an omega. This created a war of ease and concern in Yamaguchi’s head. Another omega was more likely to help them escape but it also opened the can of worms that focused on possibly rescuing this man as well as themselves.

“I wanted to see if you guys were okay. I heard one of you took a knock to the head?” the silver haired omega asked. His voice was soft and full of concern, his eyes going wide when he noticed the cut on Shouyou’s cheek. He pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and moved towards the small one, who winced when the cut was touched.

“Yeah that stupid head hit my head with a vase and that’s when it all got dark,” Shouyou whined. He preened a little under the care. Yamaguchi’s heart melted a little but he tried to keep his cool.

“And do tell, just who are you? Such a beauty locked up in this big house? I guess we can’t be too surprised considering the whole list thing can we?” Oikawa mused. His toned was light but his eyes were sharp, following every movement the silver haired man made, particularly being so close to his friend. The silver haired omega startled and looked up confused.

“List? What list?”

“It’s the whole reason we’re here! These guys,” Shouyou nodded at the door, “have an omega sale list and we’re gonna take it,” he finished proudly. Yamaguchi sighed, while he wasn’t a fan of Shouyou spilling their purpose here, he figured if this omega lived or worked here he should at least be aware.

“The Karasuno family doesn’t deal in human trafficking, especially not for omegas!” The silver haired omega insisted fervently. “I don’t know where you heard that but your information is wrong,”

“Our source came from an inside man. Someone who did contract work for the family, someone who would know.” Kenma pointed out.

“I’m sure you think your employers are just too sweet but trust me, honey, we have seen it all,” Oikawa drawled as he slouched in his chair with a forced coolness. This only seemed to irritate the silver haired man more.

“I’m telling you, your source is wrong, Daichi would never do that!” he insisted. With that the atmosphere in the room immediately tensed. Shouyou ducked out of the reach of the silver haired omega and Oikawa pinned him with his dirtiest glare. Kenma had frozen like a deer in headlights and Yamaguchi’s heart sank.

“So they sent in a decoy, how clever,” Oikawa hissed nastily. “Thought you would be plenty to soften us up and get some info before they ship us off,”

“What? No! I would never do that! Daichi would never do that! I just saw blood in the hallway and-“

“You’re Sugawara Koshi,” Yamaguchi cut him off, the pieces clicking into place. “There aren’t any pictures of you anywhere but I had heard Daichi had an omega mate. I’m surprised he let you down here,”

“He doesn’t know I’m here,” Sugawara sighed. “Please just call me Suga. I swear I’m not here to interrogate you or trick you. I just,” He paused as if he couldn’t even really explain it himself. “I just heard you were all omegas and I wanted to meet you. I’ve never heard of…Thought that…” He trailed off looking for the right words.

“We are one of a kind.” Shouyou added.

“You really are,” Suga said softly. “Look I don’t know why someone sent you our way but you have to know my mate would never sell off anyone and certainly not an omega. We have no secrets between us and I promise you no omega is harmed here,”

“That’s all nice and pretty but I am guessing we aren’t free to go with just an ‘oopsie, wrong house’ are we?” Oikawa snapped. They were all getting a bit fidgety, Shouyou especially with his tapping feet and restless legs. Suga got a pained look on his face and that told them all they needed to know.

“We can’t just let thieves go,”

“But we didn’t even get away with anything!” Shouyou whined.

“It sounds more like you don’t know what to do with us,” Yamaguchi observed. If Suga was telling the truth then the Karasuno family wouldn’t sell them off to the highest bidder and so far no one had done them any serious harm, but they couldn’t just let a group of thieves who had infiltrated their home walk free.

“I have a proposal,” Suga said, “One that might be mutually beneficial for all parties,”

“Honey, the last time someone tried to pitch that to me I at least had a few more shots in me and the couple was really cute. Not that you and the ‘thighmaster’ aren’t cuter” Oikawa said, giving a Suga a wink. Suga blushed lightly and Kenma kicked Oikawa in the shin, who in turn stuck his tongue out at him.

“Children, behave,” Yamaguchi sighed.

“Nothing like that. Karasuno is looking to…acquire a few pieces that are on display in an upcoming museum event,”

“You want us to steal for you?” Kenma asked flatly.

“Is it really stealing if they belong to you in the first place? These paintings, they belonged to Daichi’s father, but he was swindled out of them by an old business partner. We want them back,” Suga explained.

“We don’t have much of a choice do we? Work off the debt by getting these paintings back, then we are free to go? How do you know Daichi will even agree to this?” Yamaguchi asked.

“You leave that to me,” Suga said with a wink. He gave them one last reassuring smile before he left, closing the door behind him. Yamaguchi slumped in his chair, hands on his face. He took a few moments to process all the information they had just received, the dubious led that put them here in the first place, the realization that the mate of the man they just tried to rob had walked in here and the deal he had just offered them. After a few moments he looked up and realized all three of his friends were watching him expectantly. He put on a tired smile.

“Alright guys, let’s steal a yakuza.”
