I lost my heart to a Galway girl

Summary:

“Good luck, my love,” was all she heard before Lena felt them pull away, leaving her inside the filthy bathroom stall they just made out in.

As she took quick even breaths to steady her racing heart, she followed suit, looking as well put together as she was before she entered the stall.

Now standing in front of a mirror, acting as nonchalant as she could be, she turned on the faucet and started to wash her hands, eyeing the woman two sinks away from her peripheral vision. Lena’s eyes met with startling blue, the color almost entirely swallowed by pupils dark with lust.

Lena smirked as she turned off the faucet and dried her hands. She reapplied her lipstick and made a show of swaying her hips tantalizingly as she walked out of the bathroom, feeling the heated gaze of those blue eyes that follow her figure with want.

Greedy dark red lips clash with soft pink ones, rushed and fiery, trying to assert dominance in their little stolen moment. Lena’s never been patient; giving that luscious bottom lip a slight tug, she gained entrance, hurriedly pushing her tongue inside, she explored, the kiss getting deeper. She’s met with an impatient tongue that tried to follow the fast-paced dance she’d set.
The brunette had to pull away, needing air to breathe. A hot sinful mouth landed on Lena's neck, softly sucking on her little freckle. Lena could feel the tongue swirling on her skin, hot breaths fanning her ear as those lips traveled upwards.

Finally stepping outside, Lena was met with the high and blistering sun above the vast expanse of the open arena; busy and loud crews were dwindling to frantic footsteps as a series of ‘mic check’ echoes throughout the available space.
The light flickers in sync with the sample music playing; everything is set and ready to go. Today is National City’s yearly battle of the bands, and it’s the first time in decades that it will be televised internationally. So, in conjunction with that and the sizable amount of money put into the event, everything has to be perfect and presentable as possible.

It’s just like the College Fair all over again. On the ground were various food stands and alcohol stands; there’s even a cotton candy vendor! Lena grimaces at the memories of her college endeavors.

“What’s with the face Luthor?” Andrea asks, not even tearing her eyes off of her phone.

“I still don’t understand why we, businesswomen, have to forgo work to be in this… event.”

Andrea may or may not have just barged in her office, Eve and a panicked Sam in tow proposing that they join this atrocious event for PR

“Oh hush Luthor, this is just like the good ol’ times. Can’t businesswomen have fun sometimes? You’re so boring.”

The brunette all but rolled her eyes; ever since college, Andrea had always been the adventurous one among their little group of snobby rich kids. While Lena preferred studying in her room, she wasn’t safe in anything that her friend wanted to do.

“Hence, the point is for what reasons would this do our companies any good?” Eve and Sam stood silent at the side, opting not to meddle with their bickering.

“Who knows? Maybe investors would see you’re not really a stuck up bitch with a stick up your ass, and they’ll invest in your company?”

Lena hears Sam and Eve snicker because they know it hits too close to home. Naturally, she would argue more, but since she doesn’t have any more witty comebacks in her, the brunette chose to keep her mouth shut, crossing her arms and giving the arena a once over.

Six bands are competing this year, and each one has been given a little space of their own to set up their instruments and practice. Lena glanced at the other groups, her green eyes observed with dark-rimmed glasses. Suddenly, she notices a familiar mop of blonde hair sticking out in the surrounding sea of brunettes.

It’s Kara

The blonde looks like she’s having the time of her life. Her head was thrown back, most likely laughing at something that her sister said. Alas, her pleasant view was obscured by one Veronica Sinclair.

“Hello, Lena, I didn’t know you of all people would have the time to be here.”

“Well, I could say the same for you. Why? Already bored of Illegal underground fights?” Lena jabbed back, earning a low whistle from Andrea and a couple of chuckles from Sam and Eve.

Veronica made a show of putting her hands up in surrender before backing away with her little group. Ugh, the Graves are the worst.

“Let’s go and get this done and over with.”

—————

“Where have you been?” Alex asked, eyeing her little sister, who’s suspiciously extra giggly after she went to the bathroom thirty minutes ago.

Rolling her eyes, Kara sticks her thumb out, pointing back to the general direction of the bathroom. “I needed to pee, Alex, like what I told you before I went and did that.”

Alex squints; her sister is nothing but the worst liar she’s ever met. Kara’s hair had come undone from its previous ponytail, and her lips have the littlest trace of red. Realization hits the redhead like a freight train, her face scrunching up in disgust.

“Nevermind, now go and practice your vocals.” The blonde took that as a signal and skipped to where Nia and the rest of her bandmates were. She knows Alex saw through her lie, but she’d take it as a win that she didn’t pry and interrogated her.

‘That’s a problem for next time’ Kara thought. For now, she’s going to enjoy being with her sister and friends outside of their works.

“I still don’t know why you’re wearing that… monstrosity or why your sister has let you wear THAT” Nia had been complaining about her outfit since the one hour drive towards the park; she had repeatedly said and I quote, ‘ you look like an off-brand cereal endorser…from the ‘70s!’ to which she had replied with ‘ Tv’s weren’t even colored by then, you butt.’

Kara rolls her eyes half-heartedly before she grabs her mic and nods to Alex’s general direction as a signal before she starts strumming on her guitar, hearing the familiar intro of her current favorite song; Kara smiled dopily as this song reminds her of someone very dear to her.

——

Lena stood at the foot of the stage, hands on her hips, together with her bandmates and their competition. They’re doing a final rehearsal of how the show would play out, the sun had started to set, and the towering bleachers were almost full of overly-enthusiastic party-goers buzzing in excitement, the assortment of colors was a sight; various banners of different shapes and types littered the crowd.
If only her brother can see her in this godforsaken band tournament, Lena’s sure he’d be equal parts disgusted and disappointed. Imagine a Luthor banging drums, to which Lilian had deemed unlady like and unbecoming of a Luthor

Lena’s gaze tore away from the bleachers as a petite blonde wearing a black leather jacket and tight leather pants appeared on the stage, sharp business attire nowhere to be seen. The brunette was shocked, her mouth falling open in disbelief; right on stage is none other than Cat Grant, back from wherever the fuck she had been from, wearing that outfit that Satan might’ve personally handed to her.

Lena felt more than heard Kara’s squeal of delight from a few feet beside her, her head voluntarily facing the blonde’s direction.

“I told her it’s going to be broadcasted and stuff…..” it was all Lena could register, assuming Kara had probably told her old boss about what was happening, and of course, Ms.Grant didn’t want to miss out on something historical...of some sort—in some way.

“If it weren’t for an overly-dramatic-ex-assistant, I would still be in the middle of nowhere enjoying my liquor” the crowd erupted in a chorus of cheers. Who didn’t know Cat Grant?

“Anyways, tonight is the first time in history that National City’s battle of the bands will be televised across multiple countries. It’s a pleasure for me to be hosting this event, despite it being a far cry from my usual socialite events.”

Lena laughed at that; Cat really does look a little bit out of her element. On the other hand, Andrea doesn’t look as pleased; ever since buying Catco from her, Cat had given the usual snide comments for how her old company had become.

“I’m not gonna take much of your time. It’s not worth it; let’s start this thing chop chop!” Cat walks off the stage when at the same time, the red curtain behind her lifts to reveal the first band.

Each competing band was seated at the front, making them watch the other performers before their turn. Lena was in the middle of Sam and Andrea while Eve sat beside Sam. Beside them were Kara’s group, and in the second row from theirs were Veronica’s, The row behind them was vacated by the current band performing.

The ear-splitting sound of the electric guitar blasted from the humongous speakers making Lena cringe in discomfort; sitting in front is not a very good idea. To be honest, Lena wasn’t even interested in watching the other groups; she’s dreading it, actually. The brunette has grown out of her punk phase and has long promised that she will put those memories in the deepest-darkest places of Luthor manor.

“She sounded like she was giving birth. What the hell?!” Andrea snorted at Sam’s snide remark at the other group’s performance, and Lena can’t argue with that. They had to sit and listen to that voice which sounded like a fork scraping a plate. Well, at least it’s over for now.

The band soon left the stage, and if she had remembered correctly, Veronica’s silly little group is next. Soon enough, Mercy had walked towards the stage, followed by her brother and, of course, Veronica.

“Watch me; I’ll show you how it’s done.”

Seeing the stoic faces in front of her, Veronica chose to follow her bandmates up the stage.

“Well, nobody gave a fuck about anything she just said,” Eve murmured, making three pairs of eyes look at her in bewilderment before bursting out with full=on bellied laughs. It’s rare to see sweet little Eve curse or even give someone a mean comment.

Veronica does get under everyone’s skin from time to time.

It’s no doubt that Mercy had a lovely voice; at least one of the Grave’s siblings is talented, Otis on the other hand… had lost his beat and tempo along the way, definitely screwing up their chance at 1st place.

Lena didn’t miss the barrage of winks that Veronica had thrown her way, completely ignoring her while she tried to show off on stage.

Meanwhile, a certain someone on the opposite side of their designated spot had occupied her mind the whole time. They had completely ignored each other in the hopes of being stealthy.

It’s weird to even talk to her because they were both very public figures and the media had very sexual assumptions about their actual relationship status. Still, they are just gal pals that are literally five feet apart right now because they aren’t gay ...also, Kara has a terrifying sister that even Andrea wouldn’t want to piss off.

“Can you stop eye-fucking blondie over there? She’s literally my employee, Lena.” The brunette guffaws; she was caught.

That says so much about being sneaky, huh

“Let her be Andrea. I totally would bang Kara too...you know.” Eve said out of literal nowhere.

Oh, this bitch is asking for her death.

“Oh my god, Eve, shut the fuck up,” Andrea retorts, disgusted, hitting Eve’s leg for saying such a crude comment.

“I didn’t know you were a prude. You’re so prickly lately, Andy. Maybe you need a dick up your ass,” Lena laughs as Andrea looked even more pissed when she backed up Eve. The three of them giggled, exchanging high fives while Andrea sat there with arms crossed and looking like she’s about to commit murder.

————

The first four bands had performed, now it’s just hers and Lena’s bands that haven’t, and Kara can’t stop bouncing her knees in anxiety.

“Can you not? Chill, dude, it’s gonna be lit!”
Alex more or less screamed at her face; they could barely hear each other as the crowd had been going crazy after the last performer’s piece.

“Sorry! I’m just extra nervous because there’s a ton of screaming people that would be watching me sing!” Well, not entirely the truth… a part of her was nervous because Lena will be watching her sing… and Kara will be singing about her.

Kara saw Lena’s group standing up from their spot;,;t’s their turn. She watched as Lena gracefully went up the stairs leading up the stage behind her bandmate as if trying to show off her voluptuous hips to the crowd.

Kara can’t help but wet her lips with her tongue. Lena looked so ravishing, even more so when she sat behind her drums and started hitting the sticks together.

“You’re drooling,” Nia says out of nowhere.

“Huh? what? No, I’m not!” Kara subconsciously wiped her mouth only to find nothing, hearing Nia cackle beside her sister.

The telltale sound of drumsticks hitting each other echoed through the crowd, signall\ing the start of the band’s performance. It was then followed by a series of guitar strums from Sam.

Lena looked so hot; her thick brows were furrowed in concentration, her eyes following the movement of her hands as she bobs her head in sync with the beat of her strikes from time to time.

Andrea had started to sing their piece, but Kara’s attention was only to Lena and Lena alone. Her gaze follows Lena’s hands, focused on every flick of her wrists and when those drum sticks twirl in between her slender fingers or how her jet black hair sticks to her delectable neck that was perfectly highlighted by the choker she was wearing. The blonde couldn’t keep her eyes off of the brunette, drinking in all that she was outside of the four corners of her office.

Something then clicked inside Kara’s head. This is Lena, the version of her that she kept hidden from everyone to protect herself, and this Lena is beautiful and deserved all the good things in the world.

.
.
.

“Thank you!!!!”

“What was the song they played?” Nia whispered to Kara’s ears., S. isn’t blind per se. Sshe Sd seen Kara stare at Lena the whole duration of their piece like the love-struck puppy she is.

“Huh?” Kara asked, eyebrows furrowing in confusion, shaking her head out of the bubble full of thoughts about Lena. “What do you mean?”

“They’re done; we’re next,” Nia repeats with a smirk, tapping Kara’s shoulders before standing up;, Ale;and Querl follow suit. Kara looks at them in confusion before realizing that Lena’s group was already off the stage and her bandmates were about ready to start without her.

“Oh, Mother ducker,” Kara exclaimed, scrambling to get up to follow her bandmates. Looking at Nia, who had an amusedlook on her face, she couldn’t put a finger on what this might be abou.

Getting up the stage, Kara looks around., The arena is tip-top full and breaming with people, which may or may not be looking at her right now as she fidgets in front of everybody, her eyes scans the designated spot for the bands and her gaze meets Lena’s expecting eyes.

“They sang Hozier earlier, by the way, in case you were wondering.” Nia teased, again, bursting her out of her bubble.

Never breaking her eye contact with Lena, Kara side-stepped closer to Nia.

“I knew that!” The blonde hissed as subtle as she can, which earned a chuckle from Nia, who had started to shake her head in disbelief.

“There’s a reason you were never a good liar, Kara.”

-

The rowdy crowd had started to calm down, waiting expectantly for them to play their piece. The silence was so loud it’s almost deafening.

Kara looked at Lena one more time before she hastily closed her eyes, taking deep shallow breaths to calm her nerves. Her senses picked up Nia’s foot tapping the floor three times together with her trademark-overly-dramatic-headbang as she hits her drum sticks together.

Alex had started her guitar solo, clearly showing off as she faced Querl owning the bass guitar. The crowd started cheering, getting hyped by the tempo that their band had set.

Kara had heard her cue; she held the mic between her hands and started singing.

——

“Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl, and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue”

The crowd erupted in cheers when Kara’s voice echoed through the speakers. Lena felt the audience’s roar when Kara unconsciously let out her charming smile, the same one she gives Lena.

Lena’s gaze was meeting Kara’s; it’s not the one that makes you want to dominate and win the staring contest. It’s the one that embraces you and encourages you to keep your eyes to her and her alone.

“And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl
We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue”

Kara had consistently looked at the brunette. Her heart had been erratically beating out of her chest, and out of all the possible reasons why the only one she can think of is because of her declaration of love for Lena. She is claiming to the public that the black-haired girl is hers.

“Is she singing about you?” Sam asked out of obviousness. Kara had been staring at her friend and vice versa.

Lena blushed at Sam’s very straightforward question just right on time when the camera panned to their side and captured her red-faced like a teenager. It shows in the myriad of humongous and little screens that littered the arena and possibly half of the Earth’s population tuned in on this event, giving the audience a nice view of Lena’s tomato face.

‘Let’s just hope his brother is watching tv in prison, so he can see her sister going at it with the reporter that won a Pulitzer by writing a story exploiting him.’

“So I took her hand, and I g,ve her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway girl
When I woke up, I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I've traveled around I've been all over this world
Boys, I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl”

As Kara sang the last of the lyrics, the music slowly died down j,st when the crowd roared in various chants. Kara had always been a charmer.

“Well, that was… disgustingly adorable.” Andrea uttered through a smirk, a mischievous smile plastered her lips.

——

A random band performer had occupied the stage as the judges deliberated their score. The audience had settled down to quiet murmurs waiting for the results.

Each band had gone back to their respective spots and babbled away with each other.

“Literally, what the fuck was that, Lena?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Samantha.”

Sam’s eyes bulged at her outright useless denial. “That’s bullshit, and you know it, Lena.”

“Tonight has been a roller coaster ride. I have here in my hand the results.” Cat Grant was back on stage, waving her right hand that was holding the envelope containing the results.

The stage had this little finish podium, the trophy, and a display cash prize is shown at the background LED.

Cat had explained the judges’ criteria, how they scored every band, and how the announcement of winners will go.

“Without further ado, I would like to call up onto stage our third runner-up… Roulette and the Graves!”

The brunette had wanted to laugh at Veronica’s face, her smug smile gone.

“What the fuck?! I’m going to kill you. Otis, this is your fault!!” Veronica growled at his face, quite loud for the mic to pick up on, possibly broadcasting it to the world.

The Graves followed Veronica as she angrily marched up the stage, harshly snatching the little trophy Cat presented to them. Her child-like behaviour earned a loud boo from the crowd.

“Well, that was quite the tantrum, don’t you think?” Cat remarked before turning her attention back to the task at hand.

Lena flicked at the scowling Veronica; Andrea is laughing along with her little antic.

“Moving on from that petulant act, this year’s second runner-up is… Danvers and company!”

Alex and Kara high-fived, while Nia and Querl jumped in circles hand in hand. The four of them playfully pushed each other while going up the stage.

Lena clapped along with her friends. Nia took the trophy from Cat’s hands, vibrating like a child being handed free candy. Alex and Querl had already stepped on the podium while Kara hugged Cat, who looked like she wasn’t happy with the sudden physical contact.

Kara laughed at her old boss’s face, “You know that won’t work on me anymore.” Cat gave the blonde a stern look, fully aware that Kara knew she had absolutely wormed her way through her heart.

“If you didn’t win that Pulitzer award, I would’ve disowned you.”

“You wouldn’t, plus I learned from the best.”

“Flattery won’t get you to first place, Kara. Now go join your bandmates. I have a winner to announce.”

“Where were we? Ah, right. This year’s National City’s battle of the bands Champion is…” Cat squinted, her brows knitting in confusion.

“Business Bitches?” The utter disbelief is evident in Cat’s voice. Lena scowled while Andrea laughed along with her fri.ds., They had argued about the name they’re going to use, but apparently, someone had changed their band name at the last minute.

“I expected more from you, Lena.” The petite blonde remarked when they met at the stage. Sam pulled Eve along to carry the biggest trophy while Andrea stood beside her.

“It was nice to see you too, Cat.” Lena bid her farewell to her old friend. The brunette pulled Andrea towards the podium to join Sam and Eve.

“These are our winners! Please give them a round of applause” everyone clapped and cheered for the successful outcome of their event.

“I would hand our winners the microphone. Take it away, ladies.”

“Hi Lena, congrats! You guys were awesome, totally killed it.” Alex congratulated Lena when she noticed her staring at them.

“Golly Lena! That was so cool.” Kara butted in, unable to control her excitement for the brunette who was busy ogling her. Lena is looking down at Kara’s face for once, having stood on the higher platform. What she wasn’t aware of was Andrea had accepted the microphone that Cat handed them and had no intention of sweet-talking the crowd, holding the mic close to the oblivious brunette.

Lena bent down at Kara’s earshot, promptly wetting her suddenly dry lips.

“I won our bet darling, guess I’m gonna be on top tonight.”

The brunette froze; her voice echoed through the speakers behind her. A flushed-looking Kara stared back at her, it’s like the world stopped spinning, and the arena went silent that Lena thinks she can hear crickets.

It took a hot minute before everyone went back to their senses; Andrea had face-palmed at what her friend had said.

“Hey! That’s my little sister!”

Kara just stood there blushing like a schoolgirl; Lena looks at Alex, who’s fake gagging beside her sister.

“YOU’RE DOING AMAZING, SWEETIE!” Nia shouted, showing her two thumbs up like a supportive mother watching her child at a recital.

And then there was Brainy, “ Lena’s team won; she is already on top.”

It was absolute chaos. The brunette knew that the crowd had gone wild with that little stunt they just pulled, but her own heartbeat was the only thing she could hear, erratically beating that she was afraid would come out of her chest. Kara’s eyes were on hers, and they were covering her like how the sky covers the world.

It felt like they were the only ones in this big empty arena, so Lena bent to Kara’s eye level once more before giving the blonde a searing kiss. Both of her hands were on Kara’s nape as the blonde responded with the same enthusiasm.

To everyone’s utter horror, the posed photos taken by James displayed a candid shot of Kara and Lena kissing on the podium. This shot was the one that made it to Lena’s framed copies.

“Will you stop looking at those photos with your weird face like you’re plotting world domination,” Kara grumbled, annoyed that Lena literally framed photos of them sucking faces in front of thousands of people.

Lena stood up from her seat, her bare-foot padded down the wooden floors towards her girlfriend. The brunette sat beside Kara on their bed, pulling at Kara’s shirt to cover her bare thighs as it rode up when she sat down. Letting out a shit-eating grin, the brunette raised her eyebrow as her husky voice penetrated the innocent silence between them.

“Must I always remind you? I did dominate my world that night, darling.”

A pillow hit Lena square in the face; Kara pushed her down on her back as she straddled the squirming brunette.

“I am going to punish you.”

The room filled with giggles and laughs as the blonde tickled Lena, making her promise to stop teasing her about that night.

Photographs were taken, and history was made, but most importantly, someone had successfully executed her CEO power play fantasies that night.

“I lost my heart to a Galway girl.”
