Melissa shield was sitting in her apartment, it was 2 nights before the expo...and before she saw Deku in person since the fiasco that was the first expo he attended, a lot has happened since then, all of class 1-A graduated and became pro-heroes, they defeated the league of villains, and she graduated from the I-academy, of course, she kept contact with all of class 1-A especially Deku with whom she did video calls every week.
With all of the works that their schools left them, the constant attacks on U.A, their internships, the constant increase in demand for her support items, and the amount of hero work he had to do since he graduated hadn't left any time to see each other in person.
She reached for her phone and selected the chat with some of the girls of U.A.
Melissa: Do you really think this is a good idea?
Momo: Yes I am sure Mel if you don't try this now you will regret it.
Mina: Go for it girl!
Melissa: But, what if he doesn't feel the same way?
Ochako: Don't worry about that mel, besides when I was with him I learned that he holds a deep sense of respect and admiration for you.
After reading the messages Melissa puts down her phone, ever since he told her that he was going to the expo she has been planing to confess her feelings to him, the only people who knew about her plan was her and the girls in the chat, but the closer the date came the more anxious she gets, pushing the negative thoughts out of her head she turns off the light and tries to sleep, tomorrow is going to be a long day.
---the next day---
Melissa woke up at 9:00, ate breakfast, bathed, and got dressed, the only thing that she needed to do was to organize the guest room she offered Deku for the length of his stay, the room wasn't too shabby compared to the main bedroom even though the bed was smaller, she did her best to dust everything off to make it good enough to sleep in, even if she hoped that he wouldn't sleep on it.
By the time she finished doing everything, she had to do it was already 12:45, from what he told her his plane would arrive at 1:30 so she left for the airport to greet him.
Almost nothing had changed on the island in the last 4 years since the attack, apart from the security that is, a new security system was installed on the perimeter of the island, the system projected a shield that only authorized vessels were allowed to pass, I-island also started hiring pro-heroes to stay on the island all year round.
---Izuku POV---
To say he was tired would be an understatement, the plane had been flying for almost 6 hours now, and he had to be at the airport 3 hours before the plane took off, but it was all going to be worth it, he was finally able to go to another I-island expo and he even was called to give a talk about what heroism meant to him and to test new gadgets, hopefully, this one wouldn't have any villains like the last one, and he would finally be able to see Melissa again, he knew how much the expo meant to her so being able to share that with her made him happy.
He was snapped out of his train of thought when he heard the pilot announce their arrival at the island, this was promising to be an interesting day.
---Melissa POV---
She wondered how Deku had changed since the last time they saw each other, even though they usually video called each other there are some things that you can't really notice through the camera, she knew for a fact that he was taller as she insisted on making his pro-hero costume, but she wasn't sure what else changed.
She couldn't dwell on her thoughts for much longer as she saw Deku's plane land, she quickly picked up her things and went to stand outside of the arrival gates.
---Izuku POV---
When he got out of the plane he was surprised to see the number of heroes in the airport, he had read that the security had been upgraded but he didn't expect them to triplicate the number of heroes on the island, he went to the bag pickup zone to take his bag (a green bag with a small All Might figurine) and went outside where a familiar voice called to him.
"Deku!" Melissa shouted as she went up to greet him just as she used to greet uncle Might, Izuku thanks to the reflex he had caught her without thinking, when his brain registered what just happened he put her down and his face turned a deep shade of crimson.
"He looks like a strawberry with his green hair and his face red, cute," she thought.
After the little reunion she guided him to her apartment, while they walked there Melissa asked Deku about what had been happening in Japan. Izuku mentioned that Ochako and Ida had started to date not too long ago and that there were rumors of Bakugo dating another pro-hero called Camie Utsushimi, but clarified it wasn't official as none of the two had said anything yet.
During all of this Melissa noted that in fact Deku really had gotten taller, even if he was a year younger than her he was now the tallest of the two, even if only by a little, he had also bulked up quite considerably, he looked like a thinner, greener version of uncle Might.
While she was helping unpack she asks him "Deku did you bring the formal suit I told you to?" he nods but asks why she asked him to bring it, "is that I made a reservation on a fancy restaurant for tonight, I thought it would be a nice place to talk about the expo, be ready by 7:00" she answers back.
During the rest of the evening, they both stayed in their rooms, Izuku finishing to unpack and trying to get some of the sleep he couldn't get on the plane and Melissa getting ready for the restaurant, with the help of the girls in U.A she chooses a blue dress similar to the one she used the night she met Deku, the only difference is that this one is a bit longer covering 3/4 of her legs, she also chose golden earrings and a necklace with a beautiful topaz embedded into it.
By 6:45 they were both ready, Izuku was just outside the apartment waiting for Melissa to come out, he is wearing a black suit with a deep green shirt and black tie he was checking his phone to see what restaurant they were going to, he was so focused on the restaurant that he didn't notice her coming out the door and putting her hand on his shoulder, "How do I look Izuku?" she asked "You look absolutely amazing Mel" he said making Melissa blush.
When they both arrived at the restaurant it was almost empty with only a few patrons left, they both sat down and started geeking out about the expo, the support items creators that were going to present this year, some of the heroes that were going to assist, some new prototypes that Melissa was working on and some of the "babies" Mei was developing overseas, they both sat there eating and talking about the expo, Melissa considered drinking a glass of red wine trying to get some of that liquid courage as the nerves were killing her, but just being with Midoriya was enough to make her feel at peace.
After finishing their dinner, Melissa guided Deku through the island until they arrived at a flower garden, "Do you remember this place?" she asked, "This is the place we first met right? it brings back good memories" he said.
After a few minutes of silence, she asked "Deku... What do you think of me?"
"Mel... I think that you are a wonderful person, always so kind and willing to help other people, so fiercely intelligent, and with and the ability to make anyone around smile " he said with a smile and a blush on his face.
"But what about the fact that I am...quirkless," she said choking a little on the last word.
"Melissa I don't care that you are quirkless, I honestly think it is impressive because it means that you worked for everything that you have, and that is something I deeply respect and admire you for" he answered, that last part made her heart skip a beat, but she had another question "Deku do you... do you like me?"
When she finished that last word Deku's blush had gone from a tint of pink on his face to making him look like a strawberry "I... umm yeah I think I lik" he couldn't finish the last sentence as Melissa pushed her lips against his, even if it was for only a few seconds it felt like a lot more, "You don't know how much time I waited for you to say those words" she said with tears on her eyes.
"Mel I love you," he says as he pulls her closer.
"I love you too Izuku."
