Chapter Text
Quackity is known to be a huge flirt, someone who would fool around.
Flirting with anyone he found interest in, no shame whatsoever.
Of course he had limits, he knew how much to play around with, he had brownies, he wasn't a wrecker(not as much)
One would think that he would cotnied on the path of a heartbreaker, those who were stupid enough to believe Quackity ended up falling for him, those people would end up heartbroken when Quackity would deny their proposals.
Now here he was trying his damn best to get a single person who showed no interest in him to speak to him.
Dave Watson, also known as Technoblade, was an English major student and just so happens to be the only person Quackity has caught himself falling for.
It began with a simple gesture, Techno had helped Quackity out when he saw him struggling over an assignment from their shared class, he sat with him and explained it to him, right there and then Quackity felt himself fall head over heels, the sun slanting from the high windows, directly on the side of Techno’s face did not help at all, it made him look ethereal, like a god.
Scared of the new feelings he freaked out and packed everything, shoving everyone of his items in his bag and went out the door, waving goodbye and thanking him for his help, pulling at his beanie, hiding as much of his face as he could, for he was a blushing mess.
He began having dreams of him, dreams that would make him the happiest, every time he saw Techno or thought of him, it made something flutter inside his stomach, he found himself always smiling or giggling to himself.
He made it his mission to get Techno to go on a date with him, asking him out of the blue was out of the question he couldn't just go up to someone he’d only spoken to once! That was ridiculous.
He did it anyway.
He asked Techno out for a cup of coffee from the local bakery on campus, Techno said no(“I don't drink coffee”), Quackity brushed it off saying he would pay, but techno kept saying no.
He moved on from that, trial and error, so he decided to start from the bottom.
He began getting to Techno, he needed to become friends with him.
He sat with him during the lectures they shared.
He shared his notes with him if Techno didn't show up, or missed class for whatever reason.
He brought him snacks or water in the mornings or afternoons.
Over time Techno began opening up to him, first he spoke about Quackity’s intentions, telling him why he was bothering him so much, and Quackity just straight up confessed.
“Hey! No don’t fucking look at me that way, I’m putting it all on the table just so you can know my true intentions I dont expect and asnwers now, shut me down, and I will come back, I really want to go out with you Techno and I mean it”
Given time, conversations mainly started by Quackity both male’s began getting far more comfortable with one another.
Tehno would speak more often to Quackity, he also would do small tasks for him, like for instance, during the winter, Quackity caught a cold because he went out in the snow, chasing Techno’s dog, who had gotten out of his cage in the dormitories lobby. (He was sending him back for winter break)
Out in the cold with no appropriate clothes, Quackity came back to the lobby shaking, fingertips and nose gone numb he could hardly feel his legs, but extended his arms towards Techno, smiling as he told him he got his dog, Techno grabbed the white animal, just as Quackity let out a huff and passed out on the ground.
He missed 2 days worth of lectures, Techno would take notes for him in his own notebook, making small bullet points on what he needed to know for the most part. He would also hand deliver them to Quackity, who always kept his door unlocked for Techno. No he wasn't catching feelings for the small man, he was just being a decent human being nothing more. Nope, not catching feelings.
Spring rolled around, sports back for the new season.
Quackity wasn’t big on sports, he’d rather watch his friends, instead.
Just because he had extra hours, stacked for himself, and bored out of his mind he decide to become a bookkeeper, or coaches assistant.
He particularly asked the coaches who were working with people he knew, just so it wouldn't be too awkward, but they all shut him down telling him the same thing of “already having enough kids to babysit”
Techno saw him walking from the football field one afternoon, something inside of his head telling him to help him, to make him happy and to make him smile. He ignored it and walked towards Quackity, and Like a good human being! He told him his fencing coach was looking for an extra pair of hands.
He was just being a good human being, nothing more.
So Quackity became an assistant, he went to the teams competitions(meets), he learned the terminology, he kept records of their wins, and loses, he ran errands, getting and buying snacks for the team if they got hungry he was even the waterboy, the best part was his scheduling, for someone as chaotic as him, someone people saw as irresponsible at a first glance, he was very well put together.
He kept everyone in check, making sure they got on their appropriate bus in time, everything was in a balance, if they were running late Quackity would find some sort of solution, if possible he would have the coach call the place of the meet, to inform them of their situation, of course sometimes the coach himself had his doubts, telling him it wouldn't work they they would postone the meet for a few more minutes just for one team, but Quackity worked his magic, he knew how to deal with people, he had the skill set for it, a reason why he was very good in the law and justice career path.
Only once had Quackity taken drastic measures.
Their bus was late, if they had to wait any longer they wouldn’t arrive in time at all.
So he pushed everyone into the Coaches minivan, lucky for them, not all team members were going to this particular meet, so they all fit inside the car, sure a bit squashed but they fit.
When they arrived they were all as pale as could be legs shaking, holding onto one another, black tire marks leading to the minivan, where Quackity just climbed down like nothing, handing the keys to the coach.
That's when things began to become clear for Techno, He was interested in the smaller male, he found him so very interesting, a normal person would just give up and tell them they wouldn't make it, yet there was Quackity driving them with such speed to their destination.
He had still not given up, no matter how many times Techno had told him to leave him alone and that he wouldn't go out with him, Quackity stayed, he was patient with him. Even when he was the one showing his feelings, literally handing techno his heart, who would not touch it for any reason, he stayed.
“Will you come watch me play tonight”
Techno looked to his right, Quackity and him, were sitting on a campus bench next to the pond, the sun was just setting, and the ducks had finished eating the crumbs and chuks of bread Quackity had fed them now going back to their homes to sleep for the coming evening.
“Heh?”
“Would you come watch me play tonight, it's at a bar downtown, “Dreamland” I sing there everyone once in a while, and well I’d like for you to come and hopefully tell me what you think, you don't have you! Of course! I'm just saying if you would like to!, perfectly fine if you say no”
It wasn't a date.
Techno noticed that very clearly for a while now, Quackity had stopped asking him on a date, instead he began getting more distant only speaking to Techno when at practice, sometimes during their meets, it stung for some reason, it hurt him, it ached! To see Quackity distance himself, he told himself it was because of finals week, their last exams for the year, but after that week in tocnituned Quackity was more quiet, more reserved with him he had yet to know why.
Lying on his bed, moonlight shining on the wall next to his bed, his roommate and brother in deep sleep, hugging his pillow, some snores coming from his mouth. He raised his hands up to the ir interwhinnign these ones together. I wonder how his hand would feel?, would they be smaller than mines? How would they compare, would they fit together? Would he like to swing his arms back and forth? Maybe hold his arm? Would he let Techno carry him on his back? Or maybe--
Techno shot up on his bed, casting a shadow of his own in his sheets.
When did he start thinking sappy things like that?”
He rubbed his hands against his face, running them all around, maybe he was sleep deprived, his brain was confused.
Yet his heart was utterly honest, when he thought of those previous thoughts once more, he realized how his heartbeat became extremely loud to his eardrums.
He brought a hand to his face, leaving it over his eyes, the other over his chest grasping on the shirt. He smirked to himself, he smiled shaking his head, glancing at the single polaroid picture hanged on his massive white wall, the moon such traitor, Lady night, watcher of dreams, knew what he was thinking and was bold enough to shine her light against said picture, Quackity’s tooth grin smile starting back at him, an arm wrapped around Techno. (“so you have something to dream of” Quackity smirked, blowing a kiss, before leaving out the door)
“Oh i'm dreaming alright” techno spoke to himself closing his eyes, giving into sleep.
“He’s gone insane!!”
“He’s lost it!”
“He’s in love!”
“He’s been singing that same song for weeks”
“He sings in the shower more often”
“Romantic songs, everywhere blasting in the house when we visit Sam”
The group of friends spoke amongst themselves, drinks in front of them, a large bowl of nachos in the middle for all to share. Quackity had invited all over, Dream being co-owner of the establishment provided the seats and free drinks and meal.
“Hullo” a deep monotone voice, that sounded groggy too, was heard, they all turned and waved at Techno swho put down his leather messenger bag next to an empty chair as he sat down.
“Nice of you to join us”
“I was invited and just so happened the owner of this establishment is giving out free food, so why wouldn't I come?”
The lights dimmed, and a person came up to the microphone, beginning with introductions, and clearing the main dancefloor for those who would want to dance., the theme of the evening had been “Old Love”
One by one singers would come up either on the main stage or hidden behind the curtain with a microphone to project their voice nice and clear.
The couples switched from songs to songs, Drema and George doing their share of dancing, Karl and Sapnap as well. Sometimes they would bring others to dance, just so they wouldn't be left behind and possibly bored.
The next song began nice and gentle, a chorus of “ah” was heard, the person wasn't just singing but they were playing a guitar. (bass), once more couples stood up gathering around the dance floor, techno stayed behind, enjoying the free food, then a familiar voice came through the speakers, the person up the stage was in fact someone he knew very well, their upper half of their face had been covered with a hat, Quackity.
[“how deep is your love” -Bee gees]
He was mesmerized, resting his chin on the palm of his hand against the table. He let himself watch Quackity smiling every time he hit those high notes, the highs and lows, he closed his eyes, feeling the music wrap around him, his voice was the only thing he could hear, the lyrics seem to speak directly to him, without knowing he mouthed the lyrics.
At one point he opened his eyes, making direct eye contact with Quackity who smiled at him as he continued to sing.
His heart thumping, taunting him, yelling and calling him out.
He smirked, blushing, looking away ruffling his hair a bit, a few strands of hair covering his face, a hand cupping his own chin. He was in love.
“Would you like to go on a ferris wheel, and hold hands or something, what is it that people do on dates really?”
Techno blushed his voice trailing off by the end of his sentence, a hand scratching at the base of his neck, looking away, he pushed the tickets forwards, Quackity who was shocked, just held them, looking at Techno he smiled.
“I’d like to hold hands with you” Quackity blushed, grabbing Techno's hand and putting it with his own, it was smaller than techno’s but it fit, it fit just right.
