Chapter Text
Peter groused as he put his phone down hard on the table. He sighed and then grumbled under his breath. His sister was an A one pain in the ass and that was putting it nicely. She is demanding, overbearing, and a freaking know it all. He’s a grown ass man. And an alpha to boot. She has no right telling him what to do or to be meddling in his life especially when she is half way across the country.
And yet she does and Peter falls victim to her ways each and every time. It’s like each time they speak, he’s that little six year old child looking up to her. Yearning for her attention and her adoration.
For the most part she was great older sister – a wonderful alpha mentor who Peter craved to grow up to be just like her. And then one day, she became more of mother to him and that is when things shifted in their relationship. Instead of being more of an equal and a friend, she became more domineering and authoritative. It didn’t matter that they were both alphas, she was always in charge and always right.
Peter was bitter about it for years but he eventually got over how their relationship dynamic changed, mostly because he left her ass in New York and moved to California. However, she’s quite bitter herself since her only son trailed after Peter as well.
And he didn’t try to stop it either. Derek is a good kid and it was nice knowing he would have family around. A family member who doesn’t treat him like a child and worry and nag about his life. He supposes she means well and it’s not like he dislikes her; he just gets tired of her needling into his business.
He swears if he hears Talia tell him one more time that he’s going to die alone and not give her any nieces and nephews, he’s going to find the nearest, tallest building and jump off it. But before doing so, he’ll rent a banner to have a plane fly over his sister’s house that says a big “Fuck You.”
Taking a deep breath, Peter rose up from the chair he had been sitting on, trying to remind himself not to get worked up. He wasn’t going to let her put a damper on the day except he had rather talked himself into a pickle.
He’s not sure why he did it but it just came out. Talia was going on and on and blabbering about Cora’s upcoming wedding and how happy everyone was. She droned on about all the planning and bugging Peter with when are you coming and how long are you staying? He had a right mind to stay he was not going but he would never do that to Cora.
Cora was an amazing person, a beta who was marrying a lovely omega girl who Peter has never met. He doesn’t know much about her but from what he has heard, she is sweet and perfect for Cora. And Peter would never take anything away from Cora because of her mother. So hence, he marked yes to the wedding invitation weeks ago and in the haste and to be spiteful, he also had marked plus one.
Peter now realizes with his spontaneously idiotic pettiness, he is now expected to be bringing a plus one and Talia won’t stop harassing him about that person. To get her off his back, he said he was dating an omega but he kept things vague but it didn’t matter since he opened his mouth, he now had to find an omega to take across the country for a week to a wedding.
He should have made up something like he broke up with the omega but yet it seemed easier to keep going with the lie. It’s Talia and he just wanted to prove a point that he could date and actually be in a relationship with someone. However, Peter is beginning to see the error of his ways since pulling it off may be slightly more difficult than he planned.
Strolling towards the kitchen, Peter overheard the door opening. Derek was home. Despite being two adult alphas, they still lived together. It’s comfortable and easy. Also saves on money to have a roommate. For the most part, they get a long fantastically but there are times Derek can be a brat.
Turning towards his nephew, Peter huffed. “Your mother is being unreasonable again.”
The other shrugged his shoulders, basically saying yes and what do you want me to do about it?
“I seemed to have stuck my foot in my mouth and am now behind the eight ball.”
Derek didn’t look at all surprised. He supposes it is par for the course with his uncle. “What did you do this time?” Derek inquired he as stepped into the family area.
Strolling out of the kitchen, Peter sighed. “Remember how I sent the RSVP back with a plus one?”
Derek had the audacity to laugh at him. Yep, this moment was when he was a brat. “And she’s totally calling you out on that? I told you that was a stupid idea.”
Peter waved his hand. “Whatever, now I need to find an omega.”
The other alpha snorted as he made way to the sofa and plopped down. He bent down and unlaced his shoes and pulled them off his feet. “You made that sound weird.”
“Well, it’s not like I can just go to the store around the corner and get one.” Well, he guesses that there was always the possibility that a few could be hanging out on a street corner but that’s not his thing.
“Again weird. Why don’t you just hire an escort or something. I’m sure you could find someone nice that way. There’s all different kinds of escorts these days.”
Peter listened to the idea but he wasn’t totally on board. Sounded too impersonal in a way. If was going to pull off dating an omega in front of his sister, he needed someone more relatable. Preferably someone he knew but truthfully, his friend pool was not incredibly large. “I mean if it comes to that, I could but not sure if I want to do that.”
He sat down on the couch next to his nephew and sighed. This might be challenging but Peter was for sure up to it. “What about your rag tag of friends? Who in there is an omega?”
The group was mainly Derek’s friends but Peter hung around them as well. Mostly because they would all end up at their place. So Peter wouldn’t exactly call them his friends but they were more than acquaintances. He would chat and converse them but he’s fairly positive they wouldn’t just come and chill with Peter on his own without Derek being here.
Derek immediately shook his head, “um nope. Not a good idea.”
Says who? It was a marvelous idea. “Well, there’s Kira but she’s dating the alpha with the puppy eyes.” She wouldn’t do. It would be obvious she had eyes for another alpha. Peter’s mind went through the others that like to hang out in the apartment. Most were alphas or betas but there was one more omega. “Stiles!”
Derek’s eyes widened as his mouth contorted. “Good luck with that. First of all, he has sworn off alphas. Second of all, he will never ever agree to fake date and third of all, he’s just as stubborn as you.”
Oh, this idea of his was becoming more of a challenge. Peter certainly doesn’t want to back down now. “Please Derek. I am Peter Hale. I am charismatic as fuck. I can steal candy from a baby. Stiles will be no match for me.” And he was an omega. Despite what his nephew said, he could definitely turn on his alpha charm and the boy will be putty in his hand. It would be a slam dunk in his book.
Laughing through a wheeze which was rude by the way, Derek caught his breath. “Please tell me when you go to his place so I can video when he slams the door in your face.”
Later, there would be a door slammed in his face. Yet the boy did take the flowers Peter brought over as an ice breaker before doing so because Peter can be warming and Derek was not there smirking at him so he called it win.
Yep, challenged accepted. He would most certainly convince a certain omega to fake date him for a week.
A few days later, Peter landed on the recliner with a huff. He realized Stiles would be difficult (perhaps on purpose just to be a little shit) but what the alpha was not planning on was one Jackson Whitmore. Peter knew the other could be a dick but he didn’t expect him to be quite so obnoxious and that’s saying a lot when Peter himself is not that dissimilar from the other alpha.
One of the conditions Stiles dad had when he moved out of his childhood home was he had to live with an alpha. The sheriff is not completely old fashioned but he still believed his son should be around an alpha – someone who is strong, protective, and can look after his omega offspring. Evidently, Jackson and Stiles were good friends so it had been no brainer for them to share a place together. However, Jackson was becoming the bane of Peter’s existence.
If Peter was trying to sleep with Stiles, he would definitely call Jackson a cock blocker. As it is, he’s just a blocker of allowing Peter to convince Stiles to fake date him. He’s not sure if the younger man is just being pain in the ass because he can or if he truly doesn’t want Peter interacting with Stiles.
Sighing, Peter scrubbed his palm over his face while he determined his next step. Fake courting shouldn’t be this difficult and yet here it was but he still was not backing down. No, for one he would persuade Stiles and then two, he would stick his tongue out at Talia when he showed up with his plus one. No one said that Peter couldn’t be immature so he would gladly taunt her when he could.
“Maybe you should reconsider the escort thing?” Derek asked as he approached Peter. The alpha hadn’t even noticed the other entering the room.
“Absolutely not.”
He shrugged his shoulders, “well you did say you could steal candy from a baby and so far…”
Peter cut his nephew off with a hand wave. “Shut it. I can and I will. It’s just a minor set back.” He huffed under his breath. “Are they sleeping together? Is this why Jackson is being a dick?” Peter didn’t think so but perhaps he missed the memo.
Derek belly laughed. “Oh God no. Jackson and I quote said Stilinski is too high maintenance and a lot of work. My guess he’s just enjoying giving you a hard time.”
Grumbling over his breath, Peter may have to come up with a different approach. And possibly rethink renting the Fuck You banner for Jackson instead of his sister. “You talk to Stiles a lot. Any helpful hints?”
“Um, not be an alpha?” He smirked. This was another time he was being a brat again.
Peter had heard Stiles mention that he didn’t ever want to date an alpha but he wasn’t sure if he was just saying that in general or whether he really had an averse notion of actually doing so. His dynamic would intrinsically scream to want to be with an alpha so Peter’s not entirely sure of the reason. It could just be talk. “He lives with an alpha, his father is an alpha. He’s friends with you and Scott. He can’t be repulsed with all alphas so something a little more helpful please.”
Twitching his nose, Derek appeared to be thinking. “I think you just need to get on his level, you know speak Stiles speak.”
Peter leveled his nephew look, “and just what is Stiles speak?”
“You know, Star Wars, Marvel, comic books.”
Oh God, he was screwed. He was fairly positive he couldn’t do nerd. “There’s like a hundred of those movies. I’m not sure if I can do Stiles speak.” His eyes gazed up to his nephew’s hazel orbs, “unless you care to help an uncle out?”
“Like I’m versed on that shit.”
“You know more than I do.”
He dramatically rolled his eyes. “You owe me.”
“Of course nephew.”
A few days later Derek was actually helpful. He clued Peter on that he and Jackson were going to a club or something of that sort to hang out which would give Peter an opportunity to visit Stiles without the other alpha around.
This time he came prepared – he would do what his nephew suggested. He would try to speak Stiles speak. He might fail miserably with that idea and if he does, he’ll have to dial up his alpha charm.
His arms loaded with a few sacks, Peter rapped on the door and waited for the omega to answer.
It took a few moments but the door finally swung open, revealing Stiles. He was more casual than Peter usually sees him. He was donning a t-shirt that was way too big for him with a faded logo that Peter could not quite make out. His bottoms were light gray joggers. The boy was definitely not expecting alpha company,
He attempted to quirk his left brow but he didn’t have the prefect arch to it that all the Hales inhibit. “Seriously?”
“I brought some goodies. “Peter held up the right sack. “There’s popcorn, licorice, and Reese cups.” Holding up the left bag, “I also have all the Star Wars on DVD.”
Stiles inched closer trying to peak into the cotton fabric bag. “Did you seriously buy all the movies on DVD? There’s like twelve of them.”
Yes, Derek told him how many of those movies were. It’s crazy. He hopes the boy doesn’t force him to watch all of them. “Yes.”
The word almost came out small – sheepishly. “Oh my God dude. They are like on Disney+. And..” he stepped back to apprise Peter. “You must totally be desperate.”
“I don’t do desperate Stiles.” The omega smiled at him, almost deviously. “Okay, maybe I need your help.”
“This maybe against my better judgement but you have snacks so you may enter but you try any funny stuff, I’m kicking you in the nuts.”
It sounded fair. “I’m surprised you didn’t say you would sic your guard dog on me.”
Stiles stepped out of the way to allow Peter entry as he chuckled. “I’m totally telling Jackson that you called him that.”
“Well, it’s true.”
The omega didn’t disagree. “Okay, I’m popping the popcorn and cuing up the first Star Wars movie to give you an education and then I might just let you tell me what’s got you all frenzied.” He grabbed the bag from Peter and took it into the kitchen.
Well, he made into the apartment which was a positive sign but yet Peter suspected that the challenge was far from over.
But like Derek said, Stiles is just as stubborn as Peter so game on little omega.
