Chapter Text
Damian rubbed his eyes as he padded from the bedroom to the kitchen, already able to smell something delicious cooking there. He was a bit surprised that his husband was up before him, Timothy usually slept longer than him, leaving the younger man to make breakfast. Not today, it seemed.
The smaller man was standing by the stove, humming under his breath, and he wrapped his arms around him from behind, resting his head on his husband's shoulder. The two of them had actually been the same height for a really long time, until Damian had had a sudden growth-spurt at nineteen, growing taller than his love. It had taken them a bit to get used to, but Damian really liked being able to tuck his Timothy under his chin, or curl around him when they were lying in bed.
He nuzzled into his love's neck, inhaling his warm scent deeply.
“Hmm... good morning, Hayati. What are you making?”
Timothy let out a chuckle, leaning back against him.
“Morning, Dami. I'm making pancakes.”
The younger man's stomach growled. Pancakes for breakfast sounded like heaven.
“Blueberry?”
Timothy huffed.
“Chocolate chip, you heathen.”
Damian snorted and disentangled himself from his husband, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, before leaning back against the counter.
“What's wrong with blueberry pancakes? They're good.”
His husband scrunched up his nose, flipping the pancake with a spatula.
“They make the pancakes all mushy. It's gross.”
The taller man chuckled and tore a piece off of one of the pancakes, which were waiting in a stack on a plate. Timothy swatted at him with a noise of mock-outrage.
“No stealing, mister!”
Damian grinned at him, having already popped the piece into his mouth.
“What about banana? I like banana pancakes.”
His husband stopped dead in his tracks, after pouring some of the batter into the sizzling pan, then turned to him, his face blank.
“I want a divorce.”
The taller man rolled his eyes and booped his love on the nose. His Timothy was so dramatic sometimes.
“Very funny. Is that the last one?”
“Yup... okay...”
Timothy got into a stance in front of the pan, taking the handle in both hands and staring at it with determination.
“I'm gonna flip it, like Jason.”
Damian raised an eyebrow, amusement curling in his stomach.
“The last time you tried that it ended up on the ceiling.”
His husband pouted at him.
“Yeah, well, I'll do it right this time.”
The younger man smiled at him and waved at him in a silent go-ahead. At least it was the last one, so it wouldn't be a big loss if it ended up somewhere unfortunate.
“Allright... let's do this!”
It was very amusing to see his love so concentrated on something so trivial. The older man held his breath as he took up the pan and gave the pancake a flip. It almost didn't make it back into the skillet, but the flip was successful.
Timothy beamed at him, his eyes sparkling with pride, making Damian's heart swell with adoration.
“I did it!”, his husband threw his arms around his neck with a laugh, “Take that, Jay! I'm the pancake master!”
Damian laughed and kissed his love sweetly, wanting to taste his joy. Timothy hummed into the kiss, one hand going behind him to find purchase on the counter as the taller man pulled him closer by the hip. His hand didn't land on the counter, however, it found the handle of the pan, causing it to crash to the ground with a loud clang, the pancake flopping onto the floor with a splat.
They both startled, Timothy squawking and pressing up against him.
Both men stared at the, still hot, pan and the sad pancake on the floor, then they both burst into laughter.
“The pancake master, eh?”, Damian asked, grinning at his husband, who flushed a lovely shade of pink.
“Oh, shut up, you.”
