Chapter Text
Zagreus looked down in dread at the letter he held in his hands. This couldn’t be happening, there was no way this could be true. This had to be a joke. There was no way he could be a little. The letter read
Dear Zagreus Chthonis, son of Hades
These are the results of the classification test you took last week. Congratulations you are a little. This is a rather rare classification. I hope you feel special, and your family finds someone to take care of you!!
Sincerely, The National Classification department.
Zagreus felt as though he was about to cry and started to worry about what his father would think. Hades had made it very clear that he would not tolerate any classification that was submissive. However, while Zag was caught up in his thoughts, his father appeared behind him.
“What is taking so long boy? How long does it take to check the mail?”, and as Hades was talking he noticed Zagreus holding the letter in his hands, trying to stuff it back into the envelope.
“What is that you’re holding there boy”, and takes the letter from him without asking Zag’s permission, and starts reading. As Hades read the letter, his face and expression turned darker and more menacing. When he finished reading the contents of the letter after what felt like an eternity, Hades looked down to Zagreus, and was silent for a moment as if thinking, and then finally he came to a decision. “Get out of here boy”
Zagreus was taken aback, “What?” he asked in a quiet voice, that was slightly shaking.
“You heard me, or must I say it more plainly for your pathetic little ears. You must leave this house. I will not have a weakling in this family. No-one in our family has ever been a little, so I certainly don’t know where you got these pathetic genes from.”
Zagreus looked up at Hades, distraught. “You mean you’re kicking me out?! You can’t though!! I don’t know how to live out on the streets! Please don’t do this to me, I know we were never close but I’m your son!! Doesn’t that mean something to you?!”
Hades’ face looked as fierce as the storms his Uncle Poseidon would follow for the news. “As of this day I have no son. However I will not send you with nothing to protect yourself, so do not worry about that.”
“I will prepare the things you will need for your imminent departure.”
Zagreus was stunned by this development, sure he knew his dad didn’t like the more submissive classifications, but he never could have guessed that being kicked out was ever a possibility. As Zag was thinking about the situation, his eyes started to tear up, and he tried to resist crying as long as possible, but soon he couldn’t hold his feelings back any longer, and he burst into tears, all the while feeling very embarrassed about his sudden emotionality. Soon after Zagreus had started crying, Hades had come back with a bag of clothes and a few other necessities, and he saw that Zag was crying. Hades just scoffed and shoved the bag of clothes into Zag’s hands and pushed him towards and through the open door, and when Zagreus was past the threshold, Hades shut the door without even a word of encouragement, or goodbye, and just like that, the worst year of Zag’s life had begun.
