Work Text:
Neito’s arms brushed the grass as he positioned them to hold his head while he lay, looking up at the clouds. He ignored the fact that his hand brushed another, one with soft skin and scars. He didn’t need to look over to see who it was, for only one person in the school would dare to sit beside him willingly with no need, either, and keep quiet.
His view remained on the clouds that passed by, each in different shapes and some morphing as they slowly passed by. It was relaxing, watching the clouds and the sky change, with no interruptions.
He didn’t know when he closed his eyes, or when he happened to drift off to sleep to the quiet mumbling and scratching of a pencil against paper, or when he awoke from a nightmare to realise he was holding onto something - or rather, a someone -, and was stroking his hair while his head lay on top of thighs.
Neito wouldn’t say he disliked the warmth from the touch, in fact, it was rather comforting. Mother and father hadn’t done anything like this, hadn’t given him the warmth nor comfort he needed. Even after the attacks that came soon to the end of his first year, or ever in his childhood. All he got in response was the usual awkward silence at the table, if there was ever the rare occasion when even one of them were there.
But this, this was different, a kind of difference he’d prefer on any day over anything. As soon as he closed his eyes once again, he fell back into a calmer, deeper, dream state.
The blond didn’t notice the darkness that surrounded them, nor did he notice the hand that stroked his hair discreetly hesitate when he awoke. More importantly, he didn’t notice the fallen blanket that lay beside a bed when he favoured the lap of a scarred teen.
And maybe, just maybe, if Neito woke up later in the night once again and see the only 2A greenette student he liked asleep and holding onto him in return, did he smile and fall back asleep and hope his more awake-state self wouldn’t be such a bitch when the two woke up when the run would rise.
And maybe, if a few pictures were taken and rumours were made and a new couple bloomed on UA campus the following morning, then maybe things would be better and he’d have something to look forward to for days to come.
Years later, when they made it through their second and third year and graduation, and their first few years in the danger of heroics without miraculously dying, did Neito Monoma purpose, and the Pro-Hero Deku get a new last name, that’d have the media’s attention for months.
And if Neito woke up next to his official boyfriend, only weeks after, did he wish his dream would be the future.

“You’re eyes.”
Neito glanced over up at the boy beside him, who leaned against a tree while he preferred the grass than rotten and bug-filled bark. “What about my eyes?”
“They’re pretty..”
He flushed slightly, but neither commented on it. His lips perked up. “How so?”
The other was silent for a few seconds, before speaking up and washing away the blond’s silent anxiety. “In different ways, although one that I find really beautiful, is how many colours fill them.”
His eyes squinted in confusion, his nose wrinkling slightly. “Hm?”
The greenette smiled and closed his eyes. Neito looked up at him, interested. “In dim light, they’re pigeon blue, In the sun, they’re lilac, and in darkness they’re a range of dark colours.”
“Huh. Wait, that’s just three? How can they be,”
He was cut off by the shorter teen. “Pigeon blue varies from light blue to light gray, and the lilac varies from a dark lilac to light. They’re constantly changing all different shades of the two, and I think it’s mesmerising how they change without you even noticing.”
Neito fell silent. His eyes were wide, his face was red, his lips parted ever so slightly, and unbeknownst to him, and his eyes changed in the sunlight and the greenette smiled at him once more.
At the end of the day, Neito may have fallen in love a little more.
