It's where I sit and talk really loud.

Summary:

All L knew was only what he was feeling himself. He has felt that sort of way not even once in his life, but you don't have to experience it to understand.

Work Text:

It started when they let Misa spend an hour per day with Light while he was working with the others.

L didn't initiate that deliberately. He was only eating his ice cream and thinking about Yotsuba when he realised he was staring at Misa the whole time. Thankfully, his gaze was directed at her eyes and not anywhere else, so her reaction was better than it could've been: she winked.

Of course, it wasn't "that" kind of a wink. She was a model who knew how to work with her appearance and how to be likeable, so the gesture, most possibly, was automatic. However, she didn't take it back, she only giggled afterwards.

L tilted his head to the side, surprised by not being called a pervert. A friendly wink made him lose his web of thoughts and he wasn't happy about it, but he didn't want to make a problem out of it, so he just symbolically winked back, not even sure if he could wink properly. It turned out well, but he turned with his swivel chair to the documents without waiting to see her reaction and proceeded to work.

He heard a little sigh behind his back but didn't pay much attention to it. So didn't Light.

The strange thing was, that every time people were concentrating on the task, and their noses were tapping the papers while they tried to squeeze every drop of useful information out of it, L knew it was the time to look up at the opposite corner of the room.

And every time, Misa met him with a wink. The same friendly wink, without deep meaning or anything else.

He wasn't used to leaving the last word to someone else, no, this role has always been his. So, obviously, he winked back every single time. It wasn't a chore - more like another game. A game in a bigger game.

He tried to find some patterns in it because it reminded him of tennis matches with Light. But just like with those matches, he eventually concluded that it couldn't lead to anything important. It was chaotic, with no real rule, so nothing under the surface could've been there.

And he didn't mind it. It was the first thing that made him have some interest in Amane as a person and not a suspect. Well, maybe even a second one, since the kiss on the cheek fits this role more.

In any way, Misa has been doing it for a week before he got bored and decided to overcome her and start winking at her first. The opposite to the peeping game.

He wanted to be faster every time but Misa immediately understood his intentions and did her best not to let him win. And, surprisingly, she wasn't bad herself and it was quite a task for him to do it in time.

It got even more exciting when they began training her for the Yotsuba plan that involved her acting skills.

When no one was looking, they were playing the game. And if at the beginning L kept being strict and demanding with her, after some time, he began just being polite and nice to her. Because playing the game couldn't make it, could it?

She would laugh from time to time, and when she had a break, she would begin sharing fun stories from her life, and L would listen closely, leaving a comment here and there: dry enough not to let Light suspect anything, but content and excited enough for Misa to go on and let her repressed energy out.

He didn't trust her enough to share his own stories and he doubted she would be genuinely interested, but he let himself ask her questions about her career and hobbies. When she was describing her favourite photoshoots, her eyes were shining with happiness and she couldn't stop talking. He was just glad to be there and witness the other person who is actually into something that they're doing. He's heard people are most beautiful when they talk about things that they love, and, well, that expression was certainly accurate. She would go on and on about how it all started, what good friends she had met there, how she made it to her first commercial. Misa was very proud of her goals and L hasn't missed any opportunities to tell her about a great job she had done, even though his compliments were pretty dry, just stating facts:

"Misa-san has done an impressive job, indeed."

"The photoshoots Misa-san took part in are nice to look at."

"Misa-san deserves this role in her movie, her looks and her acting skills are on a high level."

Overstepping that line could scare her away, so, obviously, he knew he couldn't reveal the fact that he wanted to touch her cheeks because they looked so smooth and soft that he almost wanted to bite them slightly. He couldn't say that he wanted to lean in to smell her hair because he felt that nice scent, he couldn't say he wanted her to relax and pretend there was no Misa-Misa and there was only Misa and that she could let go and not try to please or impress everyone. He couldn't say that every time Light would hiss at her, he wanted to actually say that she deserved better.

Misa had something interesting hidden deep and she had that great skill demonstrating just a little, just enough to have everyone's attention. Well, everyone’s except Light's, but the guy's inclinations were… different if not non-existent.

What L did notice was that Misa was mentioning Light rarer throughout the time. At first, she was still clinging to his arm like a monkey but she was way less enthusiastic lately. She hasn't even said a word to or about him since a few days ago. He wondered if Misa was only more mature about her feelings for Light or she actually… lost them? It didn't seem possible but all the signs pointed at that.

All L knew was only what he was feeling himself. He has felt that sort of way not even once in his life, but you don't have to experience it to understand.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he has never even tried to get close with any person in his life and Misa was the first one who he simply let himself look at and think about.

Yes, at first she looked silly and ignorant, mainly because of her unhealthy obsession with Light, but as time passed by, they all have learnt more and more about her. Some chose to ignore that, some didn't.

And for god's sake, she was Kira. Used to be, at least.

But what mattered is that she wasn't Kira now, and L, for the first fucking time in his life, really felt something other than stress, or boredom, or anger.

Yes, it was bad, it was the worst that could happen, but it was there and his human nature just didn't want to deny the fact that he has finally developed feelings for someone.

L knew how pathetic it was, especially after years of internally shaming people for that. Because it is very unnecessary in everyday life and because it all started with just a funny game, a time-killer.

And it's been only a month. The fact that it was L's first experience feeling it made it more intense inside of him. It made him cherish it more, even if it wasn't much, just a bit of attraction.

It did make him fall asleep with thoughts about her and not the investigation, though. He rarely properly slept but every time it went like that.

He also wanted to grin every time she entered the room, and he wanted to watch her through the cameras all the time, but sometimes he could find himself staring at the screen for way too long: Misa was brushing her hair, or applying her lipstick, or reading magazines (the ones that she's been requesting for quite a while now. Everyone ignored it, but recently L asked Watari to do his best to provide her with everything needed). And when he stopped looking to blink, he thought about how creepy it was and asked someone else to do that instead of him.

As nice as it was, he realised that it was distracting him from work a lot. Thoughts about her took about 15% of his daytime, and that 15% have always been spent on solving crimes.

And one-sided attraction couldn’t lead him anywhere. It was and it is still only a game to Misa, but it’s different for him.

She must’ve been desperate if she chose L, of all, to play with. He couldn’t blame her for seeking attention, anyone would do the same if they were with Light. L knew it wasn’t that serious and she probably couldn’t even imagine him falling for her, since she saw him as an unavailable person. If only it were in a good sense of that word.

All the better for him? The sooner he finishes, the sooner he gets his productivity and cold mind back.

So one day, when their eyes met again, he didn't wink back.

It almost caused him physical pain not to do so, but he tried to focus on the task. He could only imagine what her facial expression was like. And to be fairly honest, he was happy he didn't see it. For the rest of the day, he never looked up from his papers, unless it was his cheesecake, or marshmallows, or tea, or… or anything else that Watari had fetched him. Anyway, he figured that one time would be enough to show her that he wanted it to be over. And that day, she didn’t change her behaviour really, she left at exactly the same time and did all her evening and night procedures as usual.

He let himself steal glances at the screens to see if everything was alright. He grinned seeing her humming some melody while applying her face mask. It always surprised him how casual she was when she made a list of what she needed. It was a very long list every time, but it all could hardly damage L’s budget, so, of course, she had everything she wanted: cosmetics, clothes, magazines.

And it was nice that she didn’t pay much attention to not receiving a daily wink, he didn’t have any wish to hurt her.

But he felt a little… disappointed? A selfish and manipulative nature he was, he had expectations to see her in a bad mood after that. Yes, their bond wasn’t that strong, but he supposed that a change in habits had to bring some reactions out of a person.

It’ll be easier this way. Yes, it’s strange but happy Misa probably can make him satisfied.

The next few days he successfully avoided meeting eyes with her and he tried not to talk to her in general. Which made him notice that she wasn't speaking as much as she always did. Pity that no one except him noticed.

And except Matsuda, apparently.

"Is something wrong, Misa-Misa?" he asked once.

Everyone looked up at Misa and she, on the contrary, looked down at her hands.

Her face was bright red but it was obvious that it wasn't a good kind of embarrassment from how sad she looked with her trembling lower lip and her often blinking.

L put his cup back on the saucer and studied her face diligently, only to realise that this time it was her who avoided eye contact.

“Nothing, I’m just tired,” she replied and wiped her face with the back of her hand. It didn’t sound convincing at all, and knowing how well she could lie or act, he knew she didn’t even try to pretend things were alright.

“Tired from what?” Aizawa mumbled, visibly judging her.

“Why would I know? I might be tired for no reason, it happens." She snapped at Aizawa and frowned even more. The man peacefully raised his hands, though it was clear he was annoyed and nothing more.

"Miss Amane, why don't you go to your suite then?" Soichiro suggested.

“I- I think you’re right. Don't worry," she smiled through tears, swallowed a lump in her throat and left.

Everyone watched her getting back to her suite in complete silence and some even turned away from the screens when she flopped on her bed and lay there, sobbing.

L couldn't look away and he immediately started thinking about possible reasons for such behaviour. He doubted that it was only because of the end of their game, but it could be a catalyst.

He brought his thumb to his lips and wondered if such a thing could touch her feelings at all, considering her mad love for Light. Yes, he hasn't heard her praising Light for quite a while, but he thought it still was there. Speaking of Light-

"Right, well, so I think I've found something."

The guy immediately turned to his computer, as if nothing had just happened. Others were more hesitant but after a few minutes, they all stood around Light and listened to what he was saying. L didn't pay any attention because he still didn't want to be a part of their silly plan, so instead, he was thinking about why Misa just behaved like that.

On one hand, he could probably talk to her as well, but on the other, showing no interest might help her get over things faster. So, despite his inner doubts and scratching cats, he stayed there and continued his work.

Later that night, everyone retired to their suites, except for, obviously, L and Light. He turned off almost all the lights so the only source of light was his computer. It was quiet and nice, and they had supplies like tea, cookies and ice cream, so he figured it'd be the best atmosphere to work in. L kept surfing through the internet in hopes to find at least something that might help, and Light was sleeping on the couch with soundproof headphones on.

He didn't expect anyone around at this hour, but when he looked back, where some noise had come from, he saw Misa at the doors, wearing the same outfit (seemed like she hadn't gone to bed, then) and having some dark cosmetics smeared under her eyes. L has never seen her so "untidy" before and didn't know what to do just then.

So he just kept staring at her, waiting to see what she would do next. She didn't even look at Light, as she walked into the room and sat on the chair next to L. He watched her rubbing her eyes with her hands and thought that he should have offered a napkin but he didn't have any.

Thankfully, she was the first one to start the conversation.

"Can I talk to you?" She looked calmer despite how she looked. And she sounded way more casual.

"What about?" L instantly thought that he should've agreed first, but his habit to taste the waters before doing anything took over automatically.

He knew it wasn't going to be easy so he reached to his box with cookies and grabbed some, politely offering her one. Obviously, she refused but he left it on the desk next to her, just in case, and then bit his own cookie.

But she frowned, crossed her arms on her chest, huffing.

"You know you upset Misa, don't you?" Misa asked, but it was more a rhetorical question that sounded even more like a statement.

Usually, he thought he could trick her with all of it but exactly at this moment, it didn't seem possible. Because Misa might've not been very smart generally but she definitely had more social intellect than he had. And there was no real reason for him to pretend he didn't understand.

"I've noticed your mood had dropped from how you started crying but I wasn't sure if it was because of me exactly," he said with a full mouth. And after that she jumped and exclaimed:

"You weren't sure? Ryuzaki, you are literally a detective, why else would I be upset?"

He rarely talked to women so hearing them raise their voices always felt new. Never pleasant, though, it reminded him of one of the nasty nannies from the Wammy's house. Thankfully, Watari organised her departure.

But Misa had all the reasons to be upset with him. Because, even if she didn't mean the winking game, anything else she could be sad about had also been probably caused by L.

Well, actually, by Light (or whoever else Kira could be) (Obviously, Light only) since it's him who made them all appear there. But she didn't see that, she only saw a creep who suspected her of the murders.

After swallowing down his cookie, he brought his thumb to his lips and thought for a minute, then took a sip of his hot tea - thanks to Watari for still serving him at this late hour.

"Misa is right, I assume. You're locked here because I've locked you here. You've been put in uncomfortable conditions because I've put you in uncomfortable conditions. You're under surveillance because I've had people put it on-"

"No!" She yelled and he jumped on his seat, choking on his tea.

She landed back on her chair and grabbed the cookie he had offered to her, and then angrily bit it. "You played with me, got bored and made it look like nothing has happened!"

L blinked a couple of times.

"Misa-," he paused and cleared his throat, putting the cup away. "Misa-san, I played the game, not you . Then I thought it had no point so I got back to doing my work."

"No point? Ryuzaki, the whole point was to have fun together. But now I see that you've only got bored and left me on my own. You used me like any other guy would to satisfy your own need for attention…" She sobbed and put the whole cookie in her mouth and then stole his cup with tea. She must've been really stressed out, he's never seen her like this.

But what made him even more shocked is that she thought she was used when it was her who actually played with him, wasn't it?

"Misa, things come and go.  And, out of the two of us, I'm pretty sure that it's you who wouldn't want to do anything with me just because, therefore, clearly, it was you who played with me and not the other way around. Besides, you started it, might I notice. Everything that you just described fits you way more than it fits me."

He didn't sound angry or irritated, he only stated facts with his usual lowered tone of voice.

But he forgot that Misa was different from many other people and, even if the contrast is usually helping, right at that moment it was only making her lose her temper even more.

So her eyes were full of water again and her hand with the cup began to tremble.

Which was a terribly unfortunate move because the tea started spilling from her cup, so drops of hot liquid landed on her bare lap, where the skin was exposed between the skirt and stockings.

Misa squealed and dropped the cup on the floor, shards covered the whole space under their chairs. She started crying, maybe because of pain, maybe because of… well, everything.

This room has never been in such a mess, including the times that Light tried to initiate physical violence against L.

And Light's headphones were really nice if he still hadn't woken up.

But L was thinking quickly so he leaned forward and wiped away the rest of the hot drops with his palm, barely realising that he was actually touching her. Though, now he was more focused on the fact that his palm hurt, too, so he grabbed the two (out of ten) bowls with ice cream and handed one of them to her, gesturing to press the cold bottom of the bowl to her lap to ease the pain. He held his bowl and started to eat ice cream, honestly, more automatically than eagerly. Maybe he should've called Watari to tidy this place but, for some reason, he felt lost so he didn't manage to make any move.

When he was ready to look at surprisingly quiet Misa, he saw her wincing while checking the hurting spot: her lap was bright red but there were no bubbles or peeling skin so it must've been alright. But she was biting her lip and he realised that she was probably holding back noises.

"How much does it still hurt? You haven't also cut yourself, have you?" L asked her and glanced under her chair to check whether she stepped on the shards or not. There were no signs of blood but he still waited for Misa's response.

She put the bowl with ice cream away and brought her knees to her chest, almost exactly the same as L usually sits. Except, she hugged her knees all the way.

"No," she shook her head. Her eyebrows were pointed up and her eyes were focused on her hands. "I just don't understand why you think I'm playing with you. It's obvious that you don't care! Like I'm crying over here and you're not, Ryuzaki."

"Do you want me to cry?" He hasn't cried in a while because it's a very time-consuming activity and he didn't think he could fake it, so the question wasn't a suggestion.

"Of course, I don't want you to cry! Crying feels bad. But, I mean... if you need to cry, it's okay? You could even come to me, so I could try to help." She blushed after she said it, probably surprised to say it aloud herself. It left L speechless for a few seconds, more because of embarrassment than the real meaning of her words, and then he coughed.

"I am flattered, it's… it's unbelievably kind of you, I sure will come to you if I feel like, uh- crying , Misa-san, thank you," he mumbled, trying to sound convincing. It's not that he wasn't genuinely touched to hear it, he just couldn't help but feel awkward at the thought of him expressing emotions through tears. It was just a tough and silly situation to imagine but he tried to pay more attention to the actual suggestion. It didn't matter what would be the reason for him to need her, no, what she tried to say was probably that she wanted to help him somehow if he needed it.  And it was very strange of her to do so. He spoke again:

"So you were sad about me quitting the game, I've upset you with cutting any sort of contact with you - except for the work-related - and now you even offer me your comfort if I ever need one, correct?" His eyes were on her and he saw her cheeks getting even pinker.

"I- yes…"

"Well, if I understand it right, then all of it are signs that you care about me, Misa."

Yes, he made the whole analysis of her behaviour but the last part slipped out before he could actually think about it, so now it was dead silence between them.

He wondered if he was right.

People like Misa didn't usually express interest in people like L. So he didn't want to have high hopes, besides, she probably would only get angry with him for embarrassing her like that.

Which she did.

"How dare you say it like that, Ryuzaki!?" She exclaimed, furious.

Though her cheeks were bright red and her voice wasn't really angry. As if she forced herself to sound angry.

"I was just being friendly with you but now you turned it into some pervert-looking stuff like you always do!" She continued. "It's impossible to talk to you normally, let alone play a game together! And even then you made it look like I'm guilty."

Misa stopped to catch her breath after practically yelling at him but then she hugged her knees once more and he could see how she was running out of energy to continue talking like this. He wanted to suggest she go to sleep because it was a great moment to leave this conversation: she hated him again, so she probably wouldn't try anything else in future, therefore he will never get false hopes again and he wouldn't be distracted from the case.

But he couldn't. It didn't feel right to leave her thinking that he was blaming her or like she did something wrong.

Confessing might also help to make her stay away because obviously, she wouldn't want to befriend such a "creep", especially knowing that he's a "creep" particularly towards her.

Naturally, she would be disgusted and even relieved.

So not only has he experienced feelings for someone but he was also going to experience heartbreak.

But how do they do that? "Misa, I like you"? "Misa, your appearance is quite appealing to my eyes"? "Misa, I wish you laughed all the time"? "Misa, you are way smarter than you want people to think"?

"Misa, I wish you weren't second Kira so I could simply let myself enjoy your company even though I know you won't want to me because I'm a creep and a pervert and because you also might want to kill me, just like, might I add, your boyfriend, who is sleeping right next to us at this moment"?

L cleared his throat and shifted on his chair, not able to gain a comfortable position. He pinched a spoon between his two fingers to have something to fiddle with and comfort himself.

"I had no intention to blame you, Misa. It was very impolite of me to claim that you had feelings for me because I put it on you when I was the one to be accused of that sort of behaviour," he said, not changing his tone of voice at all. The spoon began to bounce between his fingers and he tried to focus on it, instead of the fact that he has just confessed feelings for a person for the first time in his life. He could feel how his cheeks burnt as if he ate a very hot pie.

Seemed like it took Misa aback because her eyes were wide open and she didn't blink as often as she usually did. Once their eyes met, he couldn't look away, getting ready to be shouted at or being slapped for such nonsense.

"Huh?" A curious squeal escaped her mouth and she raised her eyebrow.

Misa was either playing with him, pretending not to understand, or she wished he stopped it so she wouldn't have the need to deny it all.

So he was rather lost, not knowing what to say to just a little sound that, on one hand, wasn't informative, but on the other hand, had everything he needed.

L thought about what people usually did in situations like this, but he had to admit: he really didn't have any idea. He watched some movies but he's never been interested in romantic parts of them.

And, to his surprise, he realised he was way more worried about her reaction than he expected. He knew what she was going to say and how it was going to affect things between them, but he understood that he extremely didn't want to hear her actually saying it.

So, having nothing better to do or say, L decided to leave.

He began to unfold his legs and slide off the chair, but he was almost deafened by her scream.

"Ryuzaki, the shards!"

He quickly realised that he was about to step on the shards which wouldn't do any good, so he held onto his seat, clenching his fists around the edge of it to balance.

His reaction was immediate but turned out that Misa was just as good: no more than one second later, he could feel her small hands gripping his forearm. She tried to pull him to her side - the opposite to the one that he was going to go - so he was sitting on the chair again. He quickly changed the position to his usual one and was surprised to find her hands still on him, tightening.

Strangely, it wasn't unpleasant.

Well, surely it is not unpleasant when it's the person you are attracted to.

But he had no wish to sit satisfied by her touch while she wouldn't want it, so he decided to break it and tried to pull away, only to feel her arms wrapping around his arm as she pushed her chair closer and was capable of leaning all the way in.

"Misa, it's okay now, you can let go." He looked down at her and saw how she was staring at him, refusing to pull away. His confession - more like almost a confession - caught her attention, then.

"No, I'm not letting go until Ryuzaki tells me what he meant!" She sounded more excited and light and she shook him by his arm a little as if trying to get the answer out of him that way, so he had to balance not to fall again.

By her facial expression, he could tell she knew well what he had meant but she still wanted something from him. For the first time during this conversation, her eyes weren't shining with tears, though her small nose was still pink and a bit swollen. But in general, she looked happier than a minute ago, so L thought that having another guy who fell for her was making her feel better.

It was strange, because, as an idol, she must've been full of it and it couldn't surprise her. It might've helped her self-esteem at this moment.

"I'm fairly sure that Misa understood what I was trying to say." He tried to withdraw his arm but she only held on tighter and moved even closer, now practically pressing her cheek to his shoulder, without breaking eye contact. He could swear she saw the corners of her mouth rising for a second.

"No, I didn't. I think you have to explain what you meant, that would make it easier for me to understand."

Misa's puppy eyes didn't work on L the way she wanted, but he did admire the view. So he let himself watch her pleading a little and then he looked at the ceiling, biting his thumb and thinking. He supposed it wouldn't hurt telling her the truth, even if it would be way too much for one day.

And, of course, she would be happy to think that her puppy eyes worked. He looked back at her and decided to be as plain as possible.

"I like you a lot, Misa," he let out quietly. Even if he wanted to be clinical about it, he couldn't manage to keep back a little crack in his voice. It wasn't something that he was usually saying. He swallowed the lump in his throat and continued. "I'm actually romantically attracted to you."

At first, he thought she would laugh at him because he couldn't see her believe that he could fall for anybody at all.

But she only had her jaw dropped as she wasn't blinking at all, her big doe eyes focused on his. The way he was plain about it must've shocked her, but he really just wanted to get on with it: tell her the truth, get rejected and continue his life as if Misa-the-love-interest has never happened to him.

"You like-like me?" She asked.

"Yes, I like-like you."

What happened next was that he felt many small movements around him, as she tried to push his knees down and cling to him as best as she could. His legs were forced to be stretched forward so his feet rested on Misa's chair between her knees. But Misa herself was now embracing him, with her arms wrapped around him and with her face buried in the crook of his neck. She was kneeling on her chair, leaning forward dangerously sharply. Their chairs bumped together, forming a two-spot seat.

L was so shocked that he couldn't move at all, he couldn't even let himself rest his hands on her shoulders. He was still holding the spoon and the bowl with ice cream, and he wasn't sure what he was more scared of: if all of her shiftings will cause them both to fall on the floor with shards or if she will just choke him from how hard she was squeezing him.

His heart was beating embarrassingly fast and he felt the air being knocked out of him because he was in the arms of Misa Amane - the model and the woman he was interested in. He has never been in such close contact with anyone and he had no idea what he should do.

When he realised he was suffocating, after all, he coughed and tried to speak.

"Misa, Misa- I think you should return to your seat," he tried to say, his voice was strangely hoarse.

She didn't say anything back and she didn't move, so he was even more lost. Out of all reactions, that one certainly wasn't one he could've been prepared for.

After about a minute of sitting like that, he sighed and put everything on the desk and then carefully rested his hands on her shoulders, trying to push her. It wasn't that easy because one sudden move and either she or both of them could fall down. He wouldn't want that. And because of that, his push wasn't strong enough - or maybe her grip was too tight.

"Misa, please, stop touching me." It took him another few minutes to finally say something more or less normal, even though it turned to sound a bit pathetic as if he was pleading her.

Maybe, he was pleading her.

At least, it made her shift a little and ease her grip, though she didn't pull back. L could feel her warm steady breath against his neck and he couldn't wrap it around his head how anybody could be so calm while sitting like this. It wasn't that he couldn't hold himself back but his body was betraying him: his cheeks were burning, the heart might've jumped out of his chest any moment, palms were sweaty. But she was absolutely alright as if she was about to fall asleep.

"Why?" She whispered and it sent a wave of shivers down his spine because it went out as an exhale and it was quite a ticklish sensation.

His fingertips were still on her shoulders and it took him all he got not to either hug her back or push her harshly away.

He looked at the ceiling and asked for higher powers to help him.

"It's hardly appropriate to embrace me like this when your boyfriend is right there," he blurted out and nodded at sleeping Light. "Wouldn't he be upset about it?"

"I don't care, Ryuzaki," she replied instantly. Her nails dug into his back a little painfully and he heard a bit of sadness in her voice.

"You don't? Why?"

"Because I mean nothing to him and I'm tired of being treated like I'm some unworthy burden." He felt some wetness on his collarbone and he realised that she must've teared up. "I'm not that stupid, you know."

Her confessions were pretty concerning considering how good she was at hiding so many insecurities and negative thoughts. There could easily be way more of them and they would never know.

L sighed and his hands dropped powerlessly, so they were hanging on both sides uselessly. He could tell her that Light was the worst boyfriend ever but he needed them close for the investigation's sake. He also could start justifying Light's behaviour to make it look better for her but he didn't have any wish to do that at all.

L was used to always observe, always think, always analyse, even when he was doing some other activities, because literally anything, any clue, any hint could lead him to a victory.

But right now, with a crying woman draped around him, he simply couldn't. It was a huge distraction to think normally but he honestly didn't find any strength to lie to Misa after she had shared such intimate information. He knew that for an idol it was a hard thing to do because everyone expects idols to always smile and be cheerful. Of course, Misa has never had a problem with crying and shouting at Light in front of everyone but it was obvious that it was some exaggerated version of her. She was taught to look fake and not genuine when it came to a bad mood.

So he decided to just… support her. Seemed like it was what she needed, at least he hoped that he guessed it right.

"Misa is not a burden, neither she is stupid." That should be alright. Repeating phrases usually makes a good effect on the other person as L has read once, it makes them know that you were listening to them closely. Or something of that sort.

She only sobbed louder and L got scared that he did something wrong, but apparently, she was in a very emotional state and nothing could be expected for sure.

"Do you really mean that? I thought you all saw me as a silly model."

"I can't speak for others but personally I can tell the difference between when you're acting and when you're being real. And when you're being real, you always surprise me with your thoughts and suggestions and pretty much anything else, really."

Misa leaned back and it was such a sudden move that he was instantly forced to lean too far forward and he could swear his back cracked very badly. He wanted to warn her to be careful but she clearly was in a worse state.

Her hands were now on the back of L's neck and it felt… it felt quite nice. Her fingers were brushing his skin lightly and he found those sensations very soothing.

Misa was now looking at him, her face just a few inches away from his. Her eyes were a little bit red and some of her dark makeup was smeared around her eyelids, but he supposed it would be stupid of him to point that out.

"That's why I like you, too, Ryuzaki."

She smiled at him, even giggled a little from how hard blushing he was.

Did he hear it right? He must've, he always heard all the whispers and mumbles, there' was no way his ears could all of a sudden betray him.

Misa Amane has just said that she liked L. Could she mean something else?

"As a friend or is it Stockholm syndrome?"

She confusingly blinked at him and L figured she might've not known the term, so he shook his head as if it didn't matter.

"As a friend, too, but I like you more than a friend," she replied and her cheeks were pink again, though this time it probably wasn't because she was crying.

L tried to process her message, but he felt extremely lost.

The thing is that he has always been prepared. He would calculate any possible result and would always have a more or less content answer to whatever he might be told, but this confession has never been a part of his calculations. He has never seen that coming and he has never quite known what should be said to that.

She knew that the sympathy was mutual now, but he thought that she would turn him down.

It would've been so much easier had she just called him a pervert and walked away. That was his initial plan because he could forget about it and get back to the investigation.

But now he knew that the woman that he liked had the same feelings for him.

And it made things so much more complicated.

How was he supposed to continue the case?

"Hey, I'm not invisible, am I?" she said, waving her hand in front of his face.

L looked at her but his eyes still weren't focused on her.

"So I'm even soundless now?" Misa huffed and let go of him to cross her arms angrily but it made her lose her balance, so she dangerously leaned back on her chair.

L had no other choice but to practically catch her, so he snaked his arms behind her back and pulled her into her previous position. She shuddered and slammed into his chest.

It wasn't very nice considering that he didn't have a chest made of stone but there was no time for complaining, so he just began to remove his hands.

That was when she snuggled closer and whined.

"No, hold me," she asked bitterly. "Please, Ryuzaki."

He ignored it and his hands were once again hanging on both his sides.

He wanted, he really did but…

"You are Kira." Facts and facts only. His brain wasn't capable of thinking in these circumstances so he couldn't come up with new arguments.

"I am not and you know that!" Her wet face was pressed to his chest and she was shaking around him, her shoulder blades were visibly rising and falling as she gasped for air in between her sobs.

L couldn't understand why she reacted like that. In no world could he see a woman crying because of him, and not just because he offended her, but because he refused to be with her. Was he really sleeping?

Was it because she knew her destiny wasn't full of light as she was going to be exe-

For fuck's sake.

She was going to be executed.

L hasn't been thinking of that for a month already. The investigation wasn't sitting in place but he completely forgot about that part of the case.

Once it's proved that Misa is Kira, she's dead.

It was a mistake to remember that because L didn't want to have her lifeless body in front of his eyes.

This shiny oversensitive woman was guilty and he knew that there was no place for sentiments.

And he blamed himself for pitying her and knowing that she wouldn't have done any of it had her life been the way it was meant to be. Right at that moment, she believed that she was innocent and he didn't know what it would be like for her to go to the death sentence thinking that she's false-accused.

Not so long ago, it seemed like she didn't care about herself, she literally could say something of the sort " I only need Light to be okay, I'll do anything, I don't care about myself!".

And it was Misa they all were used to. Now she was desperately holding on for something - someone - who wasn't Light.

It wasn't her own well-being, but she was getting there, he supposed.

Still, what right did he have to think that way? How could he even imagine giving her mercy? The way it was meant to be was for L to find proof on Light and Misa and send them to execution. Or anywhere else, really. He wasn't that interested in that part at first, he only needed to win over whoever Kira was.

Misa wasn't Kira now.

But did it mean he could loosen his grip on this case? Of course, not.

Did it mean that the woman in front of him was as innocent as she claimed? Maybe.

Did it mean he had every right to let himself explore their bond more?

And that was a tough question. The first answer that came to mind was an obvious "no", but it didn't have much weight since his doubts were way heavier.

Technically, he couldn't. She was a suspect and, no matter what, it was disallowed. However, there were plenty of things he didn't have permission to do and it has never stopped him. He had a tally of all the times he's broken the law and it didn't bother him at all.

L was thinking for a while now and he wondered if she could read his thoughts. If she could, she probably would walk away.

"You don't know me, Misa."

"Oh my god, so what?" She sounded annoyed and desperate as if she wanted to slap him. "You know nothing about me, too, but you say that you like me. Or you're lying, as always."

"I know a lot about you and I'm not lying. What I'm saying is that I am objectively not the guy you typically would be into so I doubt you would actually want to be with me if we try to talk outside of the investigation."

When she leaned back and looked up at him, he was surprised to find himself instinctively leaning forward a little to follow her. The warmth disappeared from his chest so his body naturally wanted it back. He quickly put himself together and focused on her face, which was angry again.

"I don't need to know everything about you to know that I want to spend more time with you, dummy!" She lightly tapped his cheek to imitate a slap in the face, trying to look serious, but, obviously, failing. "I am not Kira, you like me, I like you. You always make everything so difficult you don't see how simple it really is."

Her palm was still cupping his face and he couldn't help himself: he leaned into the touch a little.

Misa was stroking his cheek with her thumb slowly, spreading warmth and sending waves of heat and pleasure through his head and his body. They were very close again, so her flowery scent was easily caught by him; her touch was gentler than anything he has ever experienced and her words, in all honesty, did have some sense.

His eyes fluttered shut as he dissolved in this lovely sensation. He felt her other hand cupping his cheek symmetrically, so his face was in her palms. L was like a cat, receiving attention and purring.

"Relax, sweetie," Misa whispered.

He hummed something, without even thinking of a proper answer to her. He wouldn't have found one even if he tried because her small strokes were way too distracting and all he wanted was to somehow capture the moment and remember it forever.

All the stress was still there but he gladly let himself forget about it for a moment.

Misa slightly shifted on her chair but he didn't dare open his eyes. He knew it wouldn't be the best sight: eyes full of adoration, but also desperation and fear. Scaring her away would be the worst possible thing, she fit that spot next to him so perfectly.

Misa was as close as ever and, when her breath could be felt on his mouth, he shuddered back, panting. His eyes weren't opened still, because he didn't trust himself and his gaze.

She patiently gave him a few minutes to get used to the closeness and, when he has relaxed on his chair again, she leaned forward and he noticed that hot breath on his lips again. Having absolutely no control in this situation was odd and his hands automatically grabbed her wrists. He didn't push them away, he just… held them. It was the least dangerous area to touch and he simply wasn't ready to touch her in any other spot.

L felt dizzy and his body refused to protest. It turned off and while he thought she should've asked him permission to do it all, he was also grateful.

Finally, her smooth velvet lips lightly touched his.

His breath was taken away and he didn't move at all, didn't even open his mouth to make the kiss less awkward.

Trying to find something to compare this sensation to was pointless: he supposed it would feel like fireworks or anything as bright and loud. People have always described it as "mind-blowing" and "fantastic", but in reality, L found it… quiet? It was far from what "firework" would feel like.

It felt like everything around them has stopped and gone mute. Nothing outside mattered. They were in an empty space and their lips were pressed together in a kiss that, ideally, shouldn't have happened. But now, that L has gotten into this, he didn't want it to stop.

His previously holding breath returned to normal and he began to constantly breathe in and out through his nose, as quiet as possible. He was focused on the warmth of Misa's lips and he was thankful that she didn't try to deepen the kiss by playing with their tongues or something of that sort. It was delicate and dry, and so soft , he didn't know that it could be that soft to just touch somebody with an organ that he usually used to consume cakes.

What was nice was that he could still feel some of the sweetness on her lips from a cookie she ate. Could she feel the taste of ice cream that he ate, too?

There also was a bit of salt, and he figured that it was from her tears. She wasn't crying anymore so he thought that the kiss did well for her.

It certainly did well for him. He was pressed to his chair by her small weight and he was surrounded with her warmth everywhere : her lips on his own, her hands on his face, her whole body just a few inches away from his torso. Even her hair brushed his forehead slightly, and he found them distracting, so he raised one hand to fix them. When he was lowering his hand back, his knuckles accidentally brushed her cheek and his hand froze right there.

Throughout all this time, he was wondering what her skin would feel like for him to touch. The skin on her face, particularly, as it was, he supposed, the part he was allowed to look at. And now seemed like the moment he was allowed to touch it, too…?

His heart started beating faster but he forced himself to confidently cup her face with his palm.

Their lips were glued together, they actually barely moved against each other. Was it supposed to be that way? He had doubts about that, but there was nothing he could do apart from just being happy to receive such close human contact.

Everything had limits and when Misa, apparently, took his touch as a green light, she tried to lean closer and slowly open her hot mouth. When he felt the tip of her tongue gently tapping his lips, he panicked.

His hands stayed where they were but he immediately broke the kiss and pulled away not less than an inch.

"Too much?" Misa asked quietly. He didn't see her expression because he could only stare at her chin, but he managed to nod. "Okay."

She replaced her hands from his face to his shoulders to have some balance. He immediately started to miss that sensation but he knew it would be too much for one night.

Suddenly, after experiencing a kiss, he didn't feel nervous about having her this close anymore. He felt more confident and he felt like he had to say or do something, but what do people even do after kissing?

"Thank you." He supposed that it was the best option, to express how grateful he was.

"For what?" The question seemed quite strange since it was obvious what he was grateful for, but he explained it nevertheless.

"For giving me a kiss."

Misa looked totally lost and he gave him a "you are a weirdo" look, but the next second she burst out laughing.

"Silly, you don't have to say thank you for that!"

The laughter itself was genuine. It was genuine and her face was full of colour and joy, and for a moment he forgot how silly he looked, too caught in her beautiful and natural reaction. Still, he felt the need to defend his path of thoughts.

"I was trying to be polite."

"You are too polite, I think I could give you another kiss for that!"

"No, thank you."

His immediate answer took her aback judging from her suddenly stopped laughing.

"You didn't like it?"

What a strange observation. He thought It was clear that he enjoyed the contact, but apparently, it wasn't.

"Oh, I think I did, actually. But I think that it would be enough for now."

"You make me feel like I'm insatiable." She smirked and poked him on his nose with her finger.

"Nothing wrong with that." Being desirable was respected in this world so he supposed it was a good thing, even if he still couldn't wrap his head around the fact that Misa just gave him a kiss and then stated that she wanted more. But he didn't want to spoil the moment, so he played along.

Misa smiled at him, more warmly than flirty. Her cheeks were pink again and her eyes were full of something he couldn't quite describe, but it seemed like she genuinely loved the moment that they were currently sharing.

L didn't know if he could smile like that. Not like such a primal thing as a smile was ever a problem to him, no, but he knew that even if he smiled back to her now, it would look different.

Overthinking simple actions like a smile never did any good, so his tiny smile turned to be a very shy and wary one.

Misa was surprised as she made a small noise and removed her hands from him entirely, now only sitting on her chair and not touching him at all. She looked away, looking guilty, but not sad, more like embarrassed.

"I hope I didn't push you too far, Ryuzaki, I know it's not really your thing…"

Well, "his" this thing or not would only be clear if he tries, but he realised she actually tried to show that she did care.

And it was nice. He felt very good knowing that she had that side, too, and she didn't only want to cling onto someone and plead for kisses all the time.

"You'll be right to say that I'd prefer it slow, yes." More like I normally prefer it not to happen but this one time was an exception if he was honest.

"I couldn't resist. You melted under my hands and you looked so adorable with your eyes closed."

“Is that so?”

He raised one eyebrow, not quite sure what to answer to that. He doubted he could’ve been described as “adorable” exactly considering his looks and his actions, but he wouldn’t want to ruin her a somewhat dreamful picture of him.

Maybe she was right at some point, his huge eyes and his rare blinking must’ve been scary at times so he couldn’t blame her for wishing to see them closed.

“Yeah,” Misa breathed out and leaned back on her chair, tilting her head to the side and not breaking eye contact. “I’ve never seen you so peaceful and calm before.”

“Well, you’ve never touched me like that before,” he smirked.

“Does it mean that you want it to happen more?”

Her voice was full of hope and he started thinking that he shouldn’t have tried to sound flirtatious. He couldn’t have offered her much, after all, even if he agreed to get a kiss from her.

“Well, if you’re asking me what I want then it’s slightly different from what is right and what I can do about it-”

“I know,” she trailed him off. “I know that so yes, I only want to know if you would like it to become our thing?”

“Misa…” He touched the bridge of his nose, frowning. “You’re not making it easier, in fact, you only make me choose between my wishes and my beliefs, and it’s hardly fair.”

“Not fair is kissing me and then thinking about leaving it at that, Ryuzaki.”

She wasn’t stupidly angry like before, it felt more like she was disappointed. She probably thought that her affections could magically make him change his mind in a blink of an eye but they did not.

Firstly, he didn’t want something so small to make him have doubts in his initial strategy.

Secondly, now he knew what he was losing. If before that he only could imagine what in theory she was suggesting, now he fully understood what treatment was Misa Amane offering to him on a silver plate. Well, not on a silver plate, more like in a plastic bag through the bars, considering their circumstances.

But she offered that nevertheless. Misa has never been interested in the case, her only interest was in Light and now, apparently, in L.

What if her side of a fence in face of Kira depended on who she was with? It was fairly obvious that her loyalty used to lie where Light was, did it mean that now it could turn upside down?

“What do you think of Kira?” He asked all of a sudden.

“Huh?” She looked at him with confusion in her eyes. “Strange way to change the topic, you know.”
“No, no, it’s still the same topic. Please, answer the question.” He touched his lips with his thumb.

If she says that Kira is a hero, then he is screwed. If she says anything else, though...

“I think I said I was grateful for murder of my parents’ killer already,” she pointed out.

Bad. Not the worst, but not the best.

“But how do you imagine being with me-,” he said the last part quickly and quietly, kind of embarrassed of such an unusual thing to say, “-if I’m against Kira? I want to catch him, how will that make you feel?”

The sad thing was that whatever was going on between them won’t last that long, probably.

Most likely it will end by the end of this conversation. No matter how L felt, he knew it would be for the best.

“Can we just not talk about the investigation?”

“No.”

Misa sighed.

“Okay, it’s just as hard for me as it is for you. Like I’m sorry, I can’t just stop being thankful for Kira for what he’s done to me.” She was looking away, probably afraid of L judging her. But he was indifferent.

“I’m not asking you to stop being thankful to him. I’m not asking you to do anything really, I’m only asking you how would you feel if I caught him and he got his sentence?”

It took her a few minutes to think. He appreciated that it was serious for her, too, so he patiently waited while thinking to himself.

Was he hoping that it wouldn’t lead anywhere and after this conversation, they will forget it and go their ways or did he try to hide the fact that he was secretly hoping to find a way to make it work? Even if so, he wasn’t brave enough to admit it. You won’t be disappointed if you didn’t have any hopes in the first place.

He looked back at her when she moved on her chair and cleared her throat.

“If you catch Kira and make bad things happen to him… Then I’m not gonna talk to you for a week - no, two weeks - and maybe I’ll also take all the sweets away for a month.”

After that, she gave him a bright smile.

He wasn't sure whether she was joking, but he knew that she rarely used sarcasm, so that was the answer that he got.

“Are you going to… punish me that way?”

“No, I’ll just throw my anger at you, but it’ll be fine afterwards."

She yawned and lazily reached for her bowl of ice cream, propping her head with her hand. She started eating the ice cream while L was looking at her, not understanding her at all.

"What does "it'll be fine afterwards" mean?"

"Ah," she swallowed the cherry from her ice cream. "It means that Misa will be back to liking Ryuzaki."

"Oh, really?"

"Yes."

So it was the same as it was with Light.

It only mattered who she wanted. If she wanted Kira, she would support Kira. If she wanted L, she would accept whatever he was going to do to Kira.

It didn't mean that she didn't have her own opinion because, in truth, she had a strong one. But she was loyal and she probably supposed that some things were worth sacrificing. Now in her eyes, L was worth sacrificing.

He would like to call it a consensus rather than a sacrifice, though, because making Misa drop her beliefs wouldn't be fair of him. But wasn't she asking for a greater sacrifice?

"It would have to be a secret from everyone, without exception." He could be lying there because, obviously, Watari would know, at least because he 100% had seen their kiss on cameras a few minutes ago. But she hardly cared about Watari, so it didn't matter.

"It sounds so romantic and mysterious!" From her voice, he couldn't tell if she tried to comfort herself pretending it was fine or she actually saw no problem in that. He had to bring her down to earth, even though he only actually asked needed questions.

"What are you going to do with Light?"

"Why does it matter?" He gave her a look and she huffed. "He doesn't like me but he cares about my well-being, so he would be happy if I break up with him, I think."

She was right at that. Even though it wasn't something that L would expect from Light at the beginning, it looked like that now. Hurting Misa's feelings wasn't something that Light didn't care about, just like with her safety, even when L tried to press on him and convince him that their purpose was more important than Misa.

It was a strange thing to remember and he wondered if he would say the same again.

He probably wouldn't.

"I still won't remove the handcuffs, you know." That was the hard part. Even if she agreed on all the conditions he would give her, the handcuffs were still a huge barrier.

"It's alright. I know you will solve this case soon enough, Ryuzaki," she smiled at him. He usually didn't take such words as compliments because it was just stating a fact, but this time it felt nice. "Besides, I don't mind everyone around, I just want to talk to you. Knowing that you care for me is enough." Her next smile was small and she looked at the floor, her cheeks were pink again.

L knew she was genuine but he couldn't help himself and notice that obviously, it wouldn't be enough.

"Are you sure?" He leaned in to look her in the eyes and chuckled.

"Well, I mean, you could maybe chain him to someone else for an hour from time to time, but what I said would be enough!"

He laughed. Of course.

Sweet naive Misa. Their differences were what made it interesting. Her dreams and "adorable" expressions and thoughts were something he had no interest in on its own, but when it was her, he suddenly found it touching.

She blushed harder than before and tried to sound pouty. "Hey, is it such a stupid idea?"

"No, it's a brilliant idea. I'll give it a thought." He might try to think of what they had on their plate sometime soon.

Was he really doing it? Was he accepting what she was offering?

Misa was an exploding nature, she was impulsive and, surely, she would get frustrated from time to time because they won't be able to spend time together as she would prefer exactly, but he knew that she will make it. Because what he has learnt about her was that she was truthful to her words, especially towards someone she loved.

She was very sure when she claimed how much she loved Light and L felt that he wouldn't hear the same. It will probably end at "I like you", but he figured it was for the better. People usually confess in love at… later steps of relationships than she did with Light, so who knows, it might be a good sign.

"Penny for your thoughts?" She pulled him out of his web of thoughts and he was thankful for that because he took a slightly wrong direction there.

"I'm just thinking how it will go.”

Her smile was brighter than a cherry on top of the cake and he gave her a small smile in return.

"Does it mean that we are together now?" She clasped her hands together and stared at him without blinking as if she was pleading presents for Christmas.

The formal way she put it wasn't making it easier, but it was good they could make it clear at least.

"I-," he stumbled nevertheless. "Yes."

"Yay!" Misa screamed so loud that it made L wince.

And they froze when they heard Light moving on the couch.

When they snapped their necks to the side to look at Light, he was rubbing his eyes and taking off the headphones.

"What was that?" He let out with a hoarse sleepy voice. When he looked up, he instantly looked at Misa. "Oh, what are you doing here?"

"I- Well, I just wanted some ice cream but Ryuzaki accidentally broke the cup so now we are kinda stuck here." She pointed at the shards under them.

L wanted to chuckle when she said that it was him who dropped the cup, but it was funny, so he let her have fun.

"What-," he whimpered. Even sleepy Light found it ridiculous. It was quite exciting to see his puzzled look while he tried to understand what was going on around him, and when L stole a glance at Misa, he saw that she was barely holding back laughter. "Why didn't you call someone to clean it?"

"You are correct, I was just going to do that," L said and turned to his computer. "Watari, would you please sweep the shards away?" With the corner of his eye, he looked at Misa and met her eyes on him. He was silently asking if she wanted to talk to Light now, but she shook her head a little. She turned to Light.

"You can go back to sleep, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up!"

Light frowned a little but sighed. "It's okay, just be quieter, please," he said and put the headphones on, then turned away.

L checked those headphones some time ago, so there was no mistake that they were good enough to block some ordinary volume. It was fine that they couldn't hold Misa's scream, so L figured that they were safe.

They didn't have a chance to finish that conversation that night - well, it seemed finished already, since there was nothing more to say, but he didn't expect it to end so fast. Watari came in right after Light got back to sleep and Misa was silent while he was cleaning the mess.

The old man managed to meet L's eyes and L saw a lot there.

"Do you know what you're doing?"

"What are you even planning?"

"Is it safe?"

"Is it really a good idea?"

He only nodded in return. They could talk about it some other time, without Misa there.

When everything was clean, Misa slid off her chair and waved to L.

"Goodnight, sweetie!"

"Goodnight, Misa."

She went out of the room and left L alone with his thoughts.

The problems they had didn't go anywhere. She was still his suspect, the one he had real proof on. The one he was sure used to be Kira. The one he convinced everyone else was guilty at some point.

But she didn't ask much. It was sad because she was desperate to get at least a little drop of attention and she agreed on the worst conditions that could even be out there.

He knew it was going to cause him many troubles, starting from constantly thinking about her and ending with basically needing to always pretend like nothing was going on.

He still didn't know what was going to happen at the end, when he proves that Light was Kira. With his connections, he could theoretically help Misa get dry out of the water, but the chances were small. He didn't know if he would continue digging on her specifically. He just knew that he won't let her get the death penalty. If she got time in jail, he would probably try to do something about it, but it will depend on if she was going to have better options.

It was upsetting. In no way will he give up the case. But honestly, if he claimed that Misa was no longer a suspect and made up proof, the task force will probably believe him. Almost all of them felt bad for the times Misa was held in the camera, besides they could hardly believe that such a naive and light-headed model could kill people.

L knew she could. Not Misa that was here a few minutes ago, but previous Misa. He hoped that the previous Misa won't come back.

Could it be Light's plan? There was a possibility that Light could tell Misa to do it all, but L found it hard to be realised because initially it looked like Misa wasn't even supposed to meet with him and then Light and Misa simply didn't have a possibility to talk tet-a-tet because L has always been there.

So yes, Misa was doing it herself. He still was shocked it actually happened to him and he figured Misa had to check her eyes and, well, taste, but honestly? She was a grown woman who knew what she wanted so who was he to decide for her? If she wanted him, then let it be that way. He was lucky he wanted her just the same.

It will be hard to not try to think of everything that she's almost certainly done, but she was with him now. It was questionable whether she would take his side if needed, but he hoped he could change it. She was even a part of a plan with Yotsuba, and he couldn't help but feel anxious now about letting her go there practically alone, knowing that Yotsuba would love her dead. But his calculations couldn't be mistaken, so he believed she was going to be alright.

Misa was really the one who would do anything for love. L wasn't sure if he could give it in return, but he liked her, genuinely liked her and he wasn't going to let it go that simple. He will try to protect her from all the dangers on their way, even though their sad secret affair had small potential and low chances to last longer than the case.

It was bittersweet.

After all, many people step into relationships knowing that they won't last forever. They know they want to experience other people, too, or they know that it can't work out, but they simply want to have a good time. It doesn't have to be permanent to be good.

Hell, L didn't even know what love and relationships were like. But he wanted to try, he truly did.

He chuckled when he thought about what she said. " I'm gonna take away all the sweets for a month!". Would Watari fight her or would he actually help her so L had a better diet? It made him laugh softly.

He was already imagining what time with her was going to be like. Fascinating.

He'll see. Life could be surprising and he doubted that he would ever experience something the same again. Misa was among his interests now so he was going to make sure to let that fairytale last as long as possible and, preferably, as happy and fulfilling as possible. He wanted to.
