Chapter Text
A loud honking sound of a car horn awoke Jungkook from his sleep. His eyes looked around in the darkness of his room and he let himself fall against his pillow. Dryness of his mouth made him uncomfortable to the point that he regretted eating three packages of spicy ramen just before going to sleep last night. He checked his phone before leaving the bed: 3 a.m. “No wonder it’s still dark” he mumbled as he made his way to the door. He walked through the living room and entered the kitchen to get himself a huge glass of water and chugged it down in seconds. “Maybe I should keep a bottle next to my bed” he thought to himself as he started walking back. Just as he was passing by his front door, a weird noise kept him on his spot. It sounded like someone was meddling with his lock and a chill ran down Jungkook’s spine as he gasped “Burglar?” before reaching for the baseball bat he kept behind the door. He held the bat tightly and tried to look through the peephole without making a sound, which he found the idea odd because he should make a noise to keep the burglar away, right? Through the peephole he saw a blonde head, the person was bent over and it sounded like that person was trying to put some keys into the lock but he kept failing over and over. “The fuck is this?” he thought but before putting more thought into it he opened the door, the bat still clutched tightly. “The f-fuck?” the blonde man stumbled back at the sight of the opened door but somehow kept his balance without falling. “Who thefuck are yyou?
Jungkook wondered if the guy was drunk. “I should be the one asking that considering you’re the one meddling with my lock.”
“Your lock? Thissis my house!” The guy was definitely drunk as a lord and he was insisting also.
“I don’t know where you live, man, but look-” he pointed at the door number, “this is 5C.”
The confused look on the other guy almost entertained Jungkook.
“I liveee in 6C, ssshit.” the realization caused the blonde to blush. “The... the elevator wasn’t working, I- I uuused the ssstairs.” he rubbed his face with a sigh.
“Are you okay? You seem very drunk.” Jungkook couldn’t help but feel worried at the sight in front of him.
“Me? I’m fine! Defffinetely drunk tho.” he raised his index finger to point at himself. Jungkook should definitely send the guy on his way and get back to sleep but the look on the guy -who turned out to be his neighbour now- didn’t convince him enough to think he was fine. His eyes were tired, well considering he was drunk it wasn’t abnormal but he also looked sad. Even though his voice of reason was fighting with him, Jungkook decided to help the guy.
“Hey, do you wanna come in? I can make you some coffee to sober you up a bit, maybe?”
“Nah, thanks butttt I should go, yeah.” The blonde guy took a step backwards and he failed at keeping his balance, almost falling.
“I know it’s weird of me to ask considering we don’t know each other but you don’t look like you can walk upstairs right now.” Jungkook tried to reason his offer mostly to himself. The other man seemed to comprehend what he said and then he moved forward.
Jungkook guided the guy into his living room with slow steps. “You can sit here while I make your coffee, okay?” He left for the kitchen and started the coffee machine. He considered drinking one himself but gave up on the idea instantly. He was probably going to have trouble falling asleep and a coffee wouldn’t help him. He grabbed a cup from the cupboard and poured the coffee wondering if the guy would like milk or sugar with his coffee. Still, he walked into the living room with the black coffee in his hand and he almost spilled it because the stranger-neighbour was now asleep on the very couch. "Ow!” he yelled, somehow quietly, for burning his finger. He also didn't know what to do now that he had a sleeping stranger in his house. Maybe he shouldn’t have invited him in, he wasn’t thinking very clearly. He also regretted not keeping the conversation up with the other man, maybe he could've avoided him falling asleep then. He tried to nudge him in the shoulder to try and wake him but the guy looked like he was in a deep slumber. He sat down on the farthest end of the couch and took his phone out of his pocket.
Jungkook [03:25]:
u guys awake?
there’s a situation, I think I need help.
Jiminie hyung [03:26]:

Jungkook [03:29]:

Jiminie hyung [03:29]:
And you believed him?
Have you ever seen him before?
I mean isn’t this a bit weird?
Also why is he IN your house?
Jungkook raised his gaze to the man on the couch. No, he had never seen this guy before but the thing is he hasn't had a chance to meet his neighbours yet. He had just moved into this apartment, it’s been like three weeks. So it was normal not knowing who this guy was. He wanted to believe that what he said was true because he didn’t get an evil feeling from the guy. Catching himself staring too much, he turned to his phone.
Tae-hyung [03:30]:
hehe i’ve seen a movie like dat
the guy had a stalker girl who entered his house this way
oh... the movie didn’t end well jungkook-ah
Jiminie hyung [03:31]:

Jungkook [03:32]:

Jiminie hyung [03:32]:
I don’t like this Jungkook
Do you want us to come over?
Jungkook [03:33]:

I mean, it’s late and I’m really okay hyung!
I tried waking him up but he doesn’t wake up
I think I’ll have to wait for him
Tae-hyung [03:34]:

just in case man
Jiminie hyung [03:34]:
I can’t believe you jungkook
just be careful ok?
and let us know!
Jungkook [03:35]:
thanks hyungs
I have the bat ready
but i don’t think I’ll have to use it lol
I’ll let u know
He put the phone in his pocket and got up from the couch to get a small blanket. He literally had no choice but to let the guy stay there till morning. ‘I should’ve at least asked his name’ he thought while internally face palming himself. He spread the blanket on the guy and left for his room. He lay down on his bed and tried to get some sleep while praying to all the available deities to not get murdered.
The sunlight piercing through the curtains hit Jungkook right on the eyes. He slowly opened his eyes and tried to bring himself back from his sleep. “Weird dream” he mumbled and left for the ensuite bathroom to relieve himself. His stomach rumbled and he left the bathroom thinking what to eat for breakfast. Just when he entered the living room, he froze on the spot at the sight of a man sleeping. He rubbed his eyes thinking he just hallucinated but the guy was still there. Then memories of last night came to his mind and he realized it wasn’t a weird dream after all. He went back to his room to retrieve his phone and checked the group chat.
Jiminie hyung [09:08]:
Jungkook?
are you sleeping?
Tae-hyung [09:34]:
He must have fallen asleep
if he’s not dead already lol
Jiminie hyung [09:36]:
please save the jokes for later tae
Tae-hyung [09:40]:
ok ok
Jungkook [10:17]:
morning
dw i’m still alive
and my neighbour is still asleep
so a question:
do I prepare breakfast for 2 or not
Jiminie hyung [10:18]:
Oh thank god
considering this question is in your idiocy level, i’m sure it’s you messaging and not someone else pretending to be you
Jungkook [10:18]:
Hyuuung
Shouldn’t I be a nice neighbour??
Jiminie hyung [10:19]:
A neighbour shouldn’t try to enter his neighbor's house also.
drunk or not
Tae-hyung [10:19]:
i mean
he literally spent the night already
right?
it should be fair to get to know him over breakfast
maybe he’ll spend another night at yours ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Jungkook [10:20]:
Hyung!!!
Jiminie hyung [10:20]:
TAE!!
Tae-hyung [10:20]:
what?
we already passed the horror movie phase
maybe it was a rom-com the whole time!!!
Jiminie hyung [10:21]:
he doesn’t know the guy, tae!
Tae-hyung [10:21]:
And I’m just saying that breakfast is a chance to get to know him
Jungkook [10:22]:
i mean
I was the one who invited him in so
it’s partially my fault that he slept here
right?
Tae-hyung [10:23]:
I vote yes to the breakfast
get to know him
at the very least you’ll have an acquaintance in the building
Jiminie hyung [10:23]:
Hmmm
ok I vote yes too
But just because I believe what tae last said is true
maybe he’ll turn out to be good
Tae-hyung [10:24]:
hehe
Keep us updated jungkookie!
Jungkook [10:24]:
will do!
Jungkook put his phone down on the counter and started preparing a simple breakfast. He prepared some toasts and poured some strawberry jam in a small cup. He also kept looking at the living room from the kitchen door occasionally to see if his neighbour woke up. At that moment it dawned on him that the guy would probably wake up hungover. He looked around his kitchen to see what else he could put on the table and he remembered what Jimin cooked them the morning after he moved into his new apartment. That night Jungkook, Taehyung and Jimin drank like fish to celebrate his new home and the hangover he experienced the next morning caused Jungkook to vow to never drink that much again. He got green onions and bean sprouts from the fridge and found the spicy ramen package in the cabinet. He put everything in boiling water and waited until the noodles cooked. He realised that he was unconsciously trying not to make a sound. Just when he set the little pot on the table a sound coming from the living room distracted him from his thoughts. He walked over to look from the door frame.
“Ah… Fuck.” The guy was holding his head while sitting up. Jungkook watched from behind to let the guy regain his consciousness. He took a deep breath to prepare himself for the conversation he was about to have.
“What the…” the guy was now awake and he was looking around, apparently trying to remember how he got there. “Where am I?”
Jungkook cleared his throat. “Hi!” The guy spinned around to see the source of the voice but immediately regretted acting that fast. “Ah shit!”
Jungkook approached the sitting area with a glass of water in his hands and held it out for his neighbour to take. “It’s water. For the hangover.”
“You… I’m… Do I…?” The guy ran out of words and looked confused as if he didn’t remember Jungkook.
“Oh you don’t remember last night?” asked Jungkook casually but the alarmed look on the guy's face made him realize what his words actually meant for the other one. “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that, you must have literally forgotten about last night. Well, to refresh your memory, I’m your neighbour and I think you live right above my apartment so you mixed the floors and tried to enter my house with your keys.” Jungkook’s words didn’t help the shocked face the other supported.
“Ah, I’m… I’m sorry, apparently I’m a fucking idiot.” he dropped his face in his hands. “But why am I still here?”
“That part is on me. I offered you a coffee and invited you in because you were in no condition to walk upstairs. Then you fell asleep here and I couldn’t wake you up.” he shrugged at the last part.
“I’m really sorry for putting you through all these troubles. Ah I can’t even look at you right now.” Jungkook thought he looked cute with the slight blush and he extended his right hand to the other one.
“It’s okay, really. Let’s just start over, hm? I’m Jeon Jungkook.” The guy raised his head to look at Jungkook and then his extended hand. He slowly reached and took Jungkook’s hand in his own and they shook hands.
“I’m Min Yoongi, the fool.”
Jungkook chuckled at Yoongi’s words and he shook his head. “No, you were just very drunk. Oh, the ramen is ready by the way. Would you like to eat? I made it for you.” he asked while scratching his neck.
“For me?” Yoongi’s shocked face was there to stay for a while apparently.
“Yeah. I thought you’d have an awful hangover, so I cooked you my friend’s recipe. Well, it’s not much, I just added two ingredients to the ramen so I don’t know if it’s considered cooking. See, I don’t actually cook much.”
“You know, I’m still embarrassed as fuck but I’d kill for a hot soup so I’ll accept your offer.” Yoongi gave him a small smile before getting up from the couch slowly. Jungkook turned around to walk towards the kitchen and Yoongi followed after him. They sat across from each other and Jungkook handed Yoongi chopsticks. Jungkook decided to stick to toast and jam for a change after last night's dinner. He watched as Yoongi silently ate the noodles.
“So… You were really drunk last night, were you celebrating something?” Jungkook couldn’t help but ask.
Yoongi gave him a bitter smile. “God I wish.” He raised the little bowl to his lips to drink the soup. “In short, it was a bad first date night.”
“Oh, she stood you up or?”
“Well, I wish he stood me up.” Yoongi corrected. Jungkook internally cursed at himself. “I’m sorry for assuming. Also sorry for the bad first date.”
“Yeah, me too. I mean I should’ve realized he was a jerk when he kept looking around the place. Turns out he was on a date with me to make his ex jealous or something. I learned this when I saw him and his ex in the restroom making out.”
“Ow shit. What a douchebag.”
“Yeah, I should just get used to these bad dates. It’s becoming a habit at this point. After leaving the place last night, I saw a bar nearby so I went in for a few drinks and to embrace my curse and next thing I know I open my eyes and I’m here.”
“At least you got the building right, hm?” Jungkook gave a smile at the man across from him.
“Yeah. Well, I want to forget yesterday.” he shook his head as if he could physically get rid of his memories. “I don’t think I’ve seen you before, are you new around here?” Jungkook nodded.
“Yep, moved in like, three weeks ago. I think you’re the first neighbour I’ve met.”
“Most of the people here are office workers at companies, maybe you just haven't run into them yet. Ah, be careful about the granny on the first floor though. She’s really nosy.”
“Oh right! She was the first neighbour I met! She’s very interesting.” Jungkook got up to get two glasses of water and returned to the table. “Do you work at a company too?” he couldn’t help but ask even though Yoongi didn’t look like he was an office worker with his bleached hair or the dangling earrings on his ears.
“Yes actually, but it’s less strict.” He waved his hand in front of his face to point out his hair and ears. “I’m actually a music producer.” Jungkook didn’t expect that. “Really?”
“Hm. I work for an entertainment company and produce songs for the artists.”
“Wow, that’s amazing! Do you make your own songs too?”
“Recently I’ve been busy with the company stuff so I have less time for myself but I have a small studio in my apartment so I record some tracks and post them online sometimes. We could say it’s like freelance.”
“I’m a freelancer too. Oh, I’m gonna make coffee, you’ll drink it this time, right?” he got up without waiting for Yoongi's answer. “Sure, Jungkook.” responded Yoongi, chuckling.
“What do you do then?” it was Yoongi who asked this time.
“I have a film degree and I currently do freelance video editing. I want to make my own film someday but for now, it’s just me and my computer.” he replied while handing Yoongi a cup of coffee. “How do you like your coffee?”
“Black, thank you. So, that explains the film posters.” Yoongi must’ve noticed them. Jungkook framed his favourite posters before moving in and hung them throughout the house once he settled in.
“Editing is one of the most important steps of a film making in my opinion.” he turned to Jungkook as he sat in his seat again.
“Well, it’s tiring but at least I earn money doing what I love, right?”
“That’s the spirit, Jungkook!” Yoongi looked more refreshed after taking a few sips from his coffee. “By the way, how old are you?”
“I’m 24.” he replied. “You?”
“28.” Yoongi fished his phone out from the back pocket of his jeans. “Uh, my phone’s dead, what time is it?”
Jungkook got up to retrieve his phone from the counter. “It’s almost noon.”
“Shit. My friend’s supposed to come over at noon. I should go and get rid of these post-bar smelling clothes. Jungkook, again I’m really sorry about the whole situation and I seriously can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done.”
“It’s okay, seriously. I’m just glad you weren’t a thief.” he giggled while following Yoongi on his way out. Yoongi stopped at the doorstep and returned to Jungkook.
“I’m glad we met Jungkook, despite the circumstances. Let me pay you back sometime with a meal, hm? Maybe I can cook for you?”
“Sure, I’d love to. See you around then?”
“See you.” Yoongi walked out the door with a soft smile and headed for the stairs. Jungkook closed the door and ran for his phone. He needed to inform his friends about the recent events.

Jungkook left his phone on the table and began tidying up the kitchen. He rinsed the dishes and loaded them in the dishwasher before heading for the living room to open the windows to let fresh air in. He finished his chores in ten minutes and decided to take a shower before sitting in front of his computer for hours. He could feel his shoulders relaxing with the stream of hot water. Taehyung’s words flooded his mind when he thought about this morning. Sure, Yoongi seemed like a nice person despite everything that happened last night. He was easy to talk to and he was interesting too. Jungkook felt a soothing energy radiating from Yoongi, once he was sober of course. He laughed thinking about their chaotic image last night. Yoongi looked cute with his messy hair and he had a slimmer build than Jungkook. “ The neighbour guy is not het, RIGHT?” Taehyung was right, he wasn’t straight. “What the fuck am I thinking?” he shook his head as if it would physically help him get rid of his thoughts. He quickly finished showering and all his unthought thoughts went down the drain like water.
