Lucifer cannot prevent his excitation from showing, he finally has found his purpose in life : he is going to help the damned to find their way to Heaven. Hell doesn’t need a keeper any longer, it needs a healer. His enthusiasm is however only partially shared by his daughter, Rory: the young girl’s eyes are full of tears which she has troubles not to shed and Lucifer understands her distress once she explains her theory. His disappearance is inevitable : he has to leave her life so that, when time will come, she is so angry that she goes back in time and finally makes him understand that his purpose is to help people, the same way he helped her.
While she draws her conclusion, a dark cloud surrounds her and her body slowly disappears to go back to its original time. Knowing it is her last chance to convince her father, she tries to make him promise that he will respect her wish, that he won’t change a thing of what is supposed to happen. But she understands as soon as she pronounces her wish that it is a lost cause : Lucifer is unable to respect it, he cannot abandon his daughter, he wants to see her grow, he wants to live with Chloe.
“ – Promise me dad!
- I can’t promise that Rory, don’t ask me to do so. I promise that I will find a way but I will not abandon you.”
Before she can respond, her body disappears and Chloe let’s a sob escape her. The new police officer knows she will see her daughter again, but being separated, even if only for a few months, is always painful. Lucifer takes her in his arms in order to calm her and breaks the silence between them with a voice full of resolution :
“ – I will go to the Silver City to do researches, I am sure there is a way for me to stay without damaging time itself. Rory is certain that I have to leave so that she can go back in time but I don’t believe this theory of linear time. I am sure our Rory, the one growing in you, can have a different future without interfering with the fact that I want to help people.
- What if she is right Lucifer?
- I will not let you Chloe, I will find a way.”

The following months are spent between Heaven and Earth : the damned can wait a few more years, Lucifer’s family can’t. The solution to his dilemma appears to him only a month before Aurora’s birth : his father’s library is full of books in which he put all his thoughts. The one about time was difficult to find but Lucifer did it. His intuition was correct : time wasn’t made linear.
Rory came from a future, but her actions in the past will have no effect on her timeline, they only created a possibility for the Chloe and Lucifer she met to have a new future. Her life will not change even if Lucifer decides to stay because what already happened cannot be changed, she created a possible timeline where Lucifer doesn’t abandon his daughter but hers won’t be modified. However, the Rory that is soon to be will not necessarily have the same future according to her father choices.
About his purpose, the reason why he should leave according to Rory, Lucifer has decided to take a risk. He is almost certain he would have found his desire to help people without the meddling of his daughter : he helped people because he thought it was necessary to become god and he grew fond of it. Rory’s presence had nothing to do with it, therefore, Rory’s travel back in time is not necessary to the Lucifer she would have helped, he would have found his purpose anyway. He doesn’t know yet, nor understands, why Rory’s father, why another Lucifer would have chosen to stay away, maybe what happened was different, maybe he did not have a choice, but this Lucifer have one and he intends to use it wisely.
It is therefore a happy Lucifer that lands in his penthouse on an august evening, ready to start his new job while seeing his daughter grow and aging with Chloe… Do not believe that he has not seen the white hair that starts to grow on his temples, but the fact that his subconscious wants to grow old with Chloe does not disturb him at all. After all, his subconscious and his consciousness are now at peace with each other.
