Work Text:
Take your pickaxe, your bird and your lamp
Go down the mine, so deep, dark and damp
The lamp will shine light,
And tell where to go
The bird will chirp bright,
And warn death and woe
The pickaxe will work through the entire night,
And help you uncover the secrets below.
Take your pickaxe, your bird and your lamp
Go down the mine, so deep, dark, and damp
The lamp has gone out,
You are covered in darkness
The bird makes no sound,
it lies dead there and breathless
The pickaxe, in anguish, will stay on the ground
it can‘t help you now, and in sorrow is useless.
Take your pickaxe, your bird and your lamp
Go down the mine, so deep, dark, and damp
The lamp once more shines
A flint was found here
The bird won’t see pines
No more comfort, but fear
The pickaxe is lost underground in the mines
You must rest, then get out, to dry every tear.
