Work Text:
It was a tough day, and Keigo really just wanted to collapse into the blankets in the fortress and listen to his little birdie ramble.
Dragging his feet, his slowly made his way into the fortress, ignoring Izuku’s amused giggles. He flopped forward into the blanket pile, and sighed in content.
“Hi, Keigo.”
“Hi, little birdie,” Keigo sighed out.
Izuku started humming, which helped Keigo to relax a bit more.
“Hey, Keigo?” Izuku asked after a few minutes, earning a hum. “Can I touch your wings?”
“You don’t have to ask, little birdie,” Keigo mumbled. “I wrap you in them all the time.”
“Yeah, but,” Izuku started, struggling to get the words out. “I meant like touch them like the way you like to comb your fingers through my hair?”
Keigo stiffened, finally processing what exactly Izuku was asking permission for. And, man was he glad that little birdie asked. It gave him a second to actually consider whether or not he would be comfortable with little birdie touching them.
“I-Yes, but-” Keigo rolled onto his side and tentatively held a wing out towards Izuku. “Pl-Please be gentle.”
Izuku nodded with a serious expression, before resuming his humming and reaching a hand out. His eyes softened into a child-like wonder, making Keigo’s chest warm fondly. It was nice to see an expression like that on the apathetic teenager.
Kami. I sound like a mom. Well, what I think a mom would sound like.
Keigo flinched at the feeling of Izuku’s fingers touching his wing, and little birdie drew back his hand a bit, stopping when Keigo held out his wing again for little birdie to touch.
Izuku lightly touched his fingertips to Keigo’s wing, and lightly pet along the surface of Keigo’s feathers. Izuku did that a couple more times before letting his fingers curl and start to brush through the feathers.
Little birdie’s smile made Keigo feel even fonder, and he sighed in content. Izuku just kept running his fingers through the feathers, being careful to work around any twitches that were caused by discomfort.
Keigo quickly falls asleep from the feeling, Izuku continuing to comb his fingers through the feathers.
Keigo gave Izuku a feather to keep on his person after the third time he had visited the kid’s fortress. He hoped little birdie would not have to use it, but he had to snap two of them already.
The first time was when little birdie had been attacked by some slime villain. By the time he reached Izuku, he was concerningly close to the edge of a roof. He wanted to know why, but comfort was more important in the moment.
He did end up flying over the slime villain attacking someone else, along with a couple pro heroes doing nothing. He was easily able to pluck the kid out and set him on a medic bed whilst flying an unresponsive Izuku to the fortress.
He wanted to punt All Might after Izuku explained what had happened. Especially when it took a month for Keigo to see Izuku smile again.
The second time was during the USJ incident. He heard screaming coming through the feather, before Izuku voice filtered through clearly:
“Sensei! I’m gonna call Hawks! Hawks! There are villains currently at the USJ of UA! Please bring help!”
And then he felt it snap.
Luckily, he was able to fly by UA, where Hound Dog met him at the gate, and started gathering teachers to head to the facility. Keigo flew ahead after getting directions, and slammed in through the glass ceiling.
“Birb Bro!”
Izuku was standing across from some mutant on top of Eraserhead, next to a girl with a frog quirk and a tired looking boy with purple hair.
“Izuku, I swear. You are so grounded.”
“But I didn’t even do anything!” Izuku whined, pouting with his hands on his hips.
Keigo rolled his eyes and used a feather to lift the mutant off of Eraserhead, using sharper ones to cut fingers when it would not let go of the underground pro. “Don’t even lie. You were about to hop in and fight that thing.”
“Hawks?” the purple haired boy wondered aloud, finally catching up.
“So what if I was?”
“Hey, kid. And, you trying to fight it means that you’re grounded.”
“Fine, Mom.”
“That’s Mama Bird to you.”
There was a third time that Izuku had snapped a feather, and Keigo was glad that he had been conveniently nearby when he felt the pressure on it change.
Izuku wore all of the feathers Keigo gave him on a necklace, and would sometimes he would fidget with it, but that was usually with a light hold. So, when he felt it being grabbed tightly, he listened in.
“Please! Just, leave me alone!”
“Come on, buddy. Don’t you wanna have a fun time?”
Keigo’s eyes widened, and he flew as fast as he could to where he could feel the feather pinging from. He could feel Izuku’s pulse quicken against the feather, before it snapped. He had no idea how, but he made himself fly faster.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Keigo’s eyes widened after hearing that shout, catching a glimpse of two figures on a roof. One had their hands out in defense while backing up towards the edge of the roof. The other was creeping up on the defensive one.
“STOP! JU-”
The voice cut off as the body went slack, and fell back off the roof.
Keigo sent out feathers ahead of him, just barely managing to break little birdie’s fall before he could catch him. He also sent a feather to collect the pervert, planning to fly him to the police station as he took Izuku…
Where should he take Izuku? He had no idea where the kid lived, and it was way to fucking cold to take him to the fortress.
I’ll just ask the detective if this counts as kidnapping.
He checked if Izuku had woken up, and found he had not. He pulled out his phone as he softly flew to the station, trying to calm his heart and breathing.
“Detective Tsukauchi.”
“Hey, Detective man! Two things!”
“I swear on stealing Eraser’s coffee. Hawks, what did you do?”
Keigo squawked at that, although he felt a blush filling his cheeks. Izuku may have made him feel less ashamed for his bird tendencies, but it still felt slightly embarrassing in front of others.
“I have done nothing wrong! I saved a child from a predator, and I’m dropping said predator at the station now!”
“And the kid?” Tsukauchi asked.
“Is a friend of mine- basically my little brother -that passed out for some odd reason- actually that is a little concerning now that I think about it and have said it out loud -, but! I have no idea where he lives! So, is it kidnapping if I take him to my apartment for the night?”
“Goddamnit, Hawks. Yes, it could be if you don’t report it as emergency fostering until his parents are contacted.”
He smiled sheepishly at the detective’s exasperated tone. “Would you like his name so that you can contact the parents?”
“If you would be oh so kind, Hawks,” the detective stated, failing to sound as sarcastic as he meant to because of exhaustion.
“His name is Midoriya Izuku.”
“Thanks. I’ll let you know when we manage to contact one of them.”
“Thanks!”
Keigo flew the rest of the way to his apartment, and set Izuku on his bed. He smiled when little birdie curled up into his pillows, although his smile quickly fell.
Izuku’s shirt rode up slightly, revealing a hip bone that was way too visible. For the sake of checking whether or not he was seeing things, he lifted Izuku’s shirt- shirts he has so many layers? -up, and quickly dropped it.
Little birdie needed to get to a hospital. Now. No fucking wonder little birdie collapsed.
He quickly gathered Izuku back into his arms and hurried to the closest hero hospital. Those ones managed to be less quirkist, for some odd reason. So, he knew Izuku could be seen immediately.
“Hawks! What’s wrong with the kid?!” one of the nurses asked as he burst into the emergency room.
“His body is in survival mode or whatever. He is quite literally skin and bones. He’s in the hero course at UA, and is probably not getting nearly enough food.”
The nurse nodded as she lead him to a room after hearing all the information he could give her, instructing him to set little birdie on the bed. She quickly worked to start taking vitals while paging a doctor to come figure out a plan of action for him.
Keigo as far out of the way that he could without losing sight of Izuku. He pulled out his phone.
Hawks:
Hey. Just letting you know that I took little birdie to the emergency room of the Jade Hospital in Musutafu Prefecture. He’s extremely malnourished. Anyway that I could take emergency guardianship instead?
Detective Man:
The school technically has the right to emergency guardianship, but Nedzu is sure to place you as his primary guardian as you are the closest to the case.
As is, contacting his mother led to finding out that she no longer associated with having a kid and lives in America with the father. We double checked that she was his mother as well.
We’ll be working with the police in America to see if we can get them to be charged.
Keigo swore at the text, but knew that the detective was doing everything that he could. He sent back a text to let the detective know he understood, before stepping into the hall and pressing call.
“Eraser.”
“Hey, it’s Hawks. I just saved our kid-”
“Our kid?” the man interrupted, sounding tired as shit.
“Yeah. He jokingly called me Mom. Anyways, saved him from a predator after he passed out and fell off a roof-”
“What the fuck? Where are you?”
“We’re at Jade Hospital in Musutafu Prefecture. I turned the predator in and took him to my apartment for the night/until Tsuka could contact his parents. When I set him down to let him finish off his nap- because I caught him before he hit the ground forgot to say that -his shirt rode up. Did you know that little birdie is quite literally skin and bones?”
He heard the phone fumble. “Fucking,” he heard a groan and whipping wind. “I should have noticed. Fucking-”
“I thought the same thing,” Keigo sighed out, staring at the ceiling with contempt. “He has so many layers that hide his figure- which no wonder. He’s probably freezing all of the time- has he been sleeping in that fucking fortress?! How the fuck has he fucking survived?!”
“Probably pure spite.”
Keigo huffed out a little, humorous laugh, suppressing a chirp as well. “Would not doubt it. Anyways, I originally claimed emergency fostering for the night, but get this- his parents live in fucking America.”
He heard a swear over the phone. “Nedzu can get custody claimed over him since he goes to the school. I’m guessing Midoriya was able to email her the paperwork, because Nedzu is able to do some process of making sure it isn’t plagiarized.”
Keigo hummed. “I claim primary, by the way.”
“What-No! Fuck you! I’m his teacher!”
“No! Fuck you! I saw him first!”
“He’s my fucking problem child!”
“And he’s my baby birb! Fuck you!”
“You made him drag you across a forest, fucker!”
“And you sprained his wrist, bitch!”
“Oh, you little shit!”
Keigo looked up at hearing him both through the phone and down the hall, making eye contact with the man. He hung up the phone, and Eraserhead did the same. Keigo sighed.
“Fifty-fifty?”
“Fifty-fifty…Unless he chooses full time with me.”
“You bitch-”
