Work Text:
In the beginning, the world was created. Yea, the universe was created, and in it were the oceans and land, stars and sun, yea and even the beasts of the earth. And it came to pass that the Creator made Man in His image, and from that man He made Woman, yea and He came down from the heavens and spoke unto them
“And it shall be that I will mark you, yea even
thy children and thy children’s children, with the
mark of souls. Ye shall not read the mark, for they
are sacred. The mark shall form into the words of
thine mate, the mate of truest form, thy other half
of thine soul. Upon the child’s first word, thy mark
shall be read by my priest, and none others shall
know of it’s content.”
And the first Beings agreed, pleased with their Creator, for they knew nothing but His kindness. And it came to pass that the Man and Woman partook of the fruit of which they were forbidden, and they were cast out of the garden. And thus, many generations passed, yea even unto the death of Christ.
And it came to pass that there was a girl-child, born to a soldier of Christ. They named her for his answered prayers. And upon her first word, he followed ancient tradition, taking the girl to the place where the Priests of the Creator lived, whereupon they read the words to the child, teaching them to her, whereupon she would remember them forever. However, the Priests were confused, for the words were in a language unlike their own.
Yet the child grew, becoming a woman, and upon her sixteenth year she had yet to hear the words marked upon her skin. And it came to pass that the girl fell into a river, dying a simple death.
Yeah, she did not die then, for the Creator had a purpose for her. The woman fell through the water, her soul leaving body behind, until she came upon a land of ice, whereupon she found herself once more in a mortal body. And she was lost and scared.
It came to pass that a woman was passing by, yea, she was draped in furs and pulled by a team of horned beasts, a small figure perched on seat, driving the team. And the girl knew she was a queen, for she had a crown upon her brow, and a sceptre in her grasp.
And the woman stopped, taking the girl and wrapping her in furs, giving her food and drink. And the woman told the girl of the war being fought in the land, and offered her shelter.
And it came to pass that the girl was taken to a garden, many hours distance away. And the woman told the girl to open the gate, and stay inside the garden. Yea, the child did as bid, and opened the gates, awed by the splendour within.
She knew this was a special garden, an Eden. Yet before she could take a step, the woman proved herself a devil, and used her sceptre to cast a spell on the girl, turning skin and cloth alike to stone. And it came to pass that the gates shut, for evil was not to enter, and the witch left the statue.
And it came to pass, that the girl was forgotten, alone in the world, next to Paradise, until the war was won. And more time passed before she was remembered, visited by a Lion, who breathed upon her, melting the stone. And the Lion took her upon his back, and ran through the land, and straight into the palace by the sea.
And the girl slid from the Lion’s back, and fell to the floor, for she had no strength in her legs. Yeah, the monarchs upon the thrones rushed to her, concerned for this Daughter of Eve. Yea, the eldest King came first upon her, and took her into his arms, and the girl spoke, a bare whisper,
“As for me, I will call upon God;
and the LORD shall save me.”
