Chapter 1: "good morning" kiss

Chapter Text

Chloe kept her steps light as she moved through the dark hallway, careful not to make a sound as she pushed open the cracked nursery door.

She had woken up alone, the sheets already cold when she reached out a wandering hand. Lucifer had always been a morning person, but since Rory had been born he’d made a habit of spending the early hours of the day with her.

Leaning against the door, she let herself enjoy a sight that had quickly become sacred. Lucifer was reclined in the rocking chair that had quickly become his —the same one that Chloe had spent countless hours in soothing an infant Trixie.

His eyes were closed, head resting against the back of the chair angled towards the ceiling. He was shirtless, and had one hand firmly holding a peacefully sleeping baby against his chest.

It was still early, barely more than a soft glow peeking in from the open window, and Chloe knew she still had a few minutes to enjoy the solace of a quiet morning before Rory would need to be fed. Lucifer noticed her after a moment, his eyes blinking open slowly.

“G’morning,” he rasped, voice still groggy with sleep and barely more than a whisper.

Chloe moved across the room slowly, a warm smile on her face. She had expected Lucifer to be nothing short of an incredible partner when it came to parenting, but the way in which he’d fallen so seamlessly into the role was something that made her heart threaten to burst.

“Morning,” she mouthed to him as she carefully situated herself in his lap.

It was a position they’d come to frequent most mornings, sometimes joined by Trixie when they lost track of time and had failed to feed the hungry pre-teen. Chloe looped an arm around Lucifer,  her fingers scratching lightly at the nape of his neck. His body was warm, and she found herself sinking further into his embrace.

Her free hand came up to gently brush at a messy curl laying across Rory’s forehead, dark against her pale skin. They had already known she’d be beautiful, had spent weeks with the grown-up version of her, but still she took their breath away.

Chloe leaned forward, dropping a soft kiss to Rory’s forehead, lingering for a moment to bring her in. “Morning, baby,” she cooed, still mindful not to wake her.

Lucifer nudged her neck with his forehead, a petulant request to not forget about him. Chloe laughed softly, before leaning back. With the hand on his neck, she pulled his lips to hers. “And good morning to you, too, baby,” she said softly against his lips.

With a smile that broke their kiss, Lucifer leaned his forehead against hers and let himself get lost in the peaceful presence of two of the women he loved most in the world.
