When time was still new, the universe was empty space, burning gases, and rocks. The only being there was Lady Death, who did not yet have a name. She was the strongest being in the known universe.
With her black wings she could travel the universe in a matter of days. She watched stars form and die all while flying through space. She eventually found a small galaxy. Every galaxy she flew by was always different but this one, this one was something else. It was a swirl of colors that just drew her in. Once in the galaxy she kept looking around. Finding all these little planets, she reached our solar system. She used her magic to explore each planet. When she reached Earth she fell in love with the colors. The trees, the sky, the water, the flowers, and other plants. However, there were no animals Lady Death stayed on this planet believing it to be able to do great things.
Then, a great ice hit. The plants, trees and flowers, started dying. Her job as Lady Death was to welcome all living things to the afterlife before they head to wherever they go. Lady Death had seen many civilizations die off. Planets going toxic and destroying each other. She was always able to sense where life would show up next. As she watched the plants die and come back she saw something new. Animals, just minnows, are starting to live. As she continued to watch life flourish she started to get overwhelmed with the amount of beings dying. She decided, with a planet that was bigger than she has ever seen life on, to get help. She pulled a feather from her wing and added her own magic to it. She made a being that could help her collect the souls of all beings, a crow. She made a few more so as the animal population grew, so would her help.
A few thousand years later, when mankind had been around for a while, Lady Death saw an interesting human. He was in his late teens and was fighting in a war. He was working with an old friend of hers, the god of blood and war, and kept narrowly avoiding her. He would get injured and somehow survive. This went on for a few years, him avoiding death, and her following him around. The man and the Blood God made a wonderful empire, The Arctic Empire. They were fair rulers, giving food to those in need and had a low crime rate. Why would they need to? They were given what they needed and all they had to do was work and contribute to society.
After a few years, the man was now mid twenties, he and the Blood God decided to leave the empire to someone they trusted. The Blood God went to farm different foods, mostly potatoes, but that's another story. The man went to explore. Lady death followed him
He set up a main base on a beach. It was a large house with multiple chests. As the man was looking around the area he settled in, Lady Death sensed a death was near. She went towards the sense and saw a lone wolf. It was starving. Without a pack to help it hunt the poor thing starved. As Death was preparing for the soul to cross over she sat with it so it wasn’t alone. Then the man came out from the trees. Instead of killing the wolf or even leaving it there to die, the man crouched down and gave it some of his food. Over the course of a few weeks he kept feeding the wolf, to the point where it was tamed. He named her Floof. He left her to protect his animals and crops while he went adventuring.
When he was out, he wrote all he found. And boy did he find beautiful places. The first place he found was an abandoned kingdom. The man found it flooded with water and made ways to pass through. He made water breathing beacons. Lady Death remembered this place. The ender king wanted to bring parts of the world to him. He tried a spell and it failed. The spell ended up flooding the place killing hundreds of thousands of endlantians. Death usually had her crows bring souls into the afterlife but with all the death in one area she went to investigate. The man was selfish and got his people killed. She helped the man see what happened to the kingdom.
After going home and resting for a few weeks he left again. This time he found the Nether Void, ruled by the Blaze Empress. He found her by accident. He was wandering the nether region and got lost. He starved and was dehydrated. The smell of death was on him. When he was found by some netherfolk he expected them to leave him. Or possibly kill him. They grabbed him and told him that they would help. Taking him to the castle they fed him and gave him water. The Blaze Empress asked to speak with him after he was there for a few days. He went up to the Quartress. The Blaze Empress’s home. She added to his map so he would always know where the Nether Void was.
“Why are you helping me?” The man asked.
“Because that is the way of my people,” the empress responds, “ The world needs people to be kind, empathetic, and honest.”
“Thank you for helping me. Next time I’m in the area I’ll bring you, and your kingdom some goods,” the man promised.
“There is no need. I had the ability to help, so I did.”
“That is very kind of you.”
“It is the rule of our land to help people.”
The man stayed with the people a few more days before packing up to go home. On the way home he met some people, stayed in some villages, and went to some street feasts. Once home Lady Death had to leave him for a few years. A war was happening which she needed to be there for. Her weakness has always been children. With the war there were always dead kids. It hurt her, considering she has always wanted them. When she got back she realized what her presence did to the man. There was a forest grown overnight, that her powers made. Her crows followed the man. Talked with him. Never mind that he doesn’t understand them. She does. They said lovely things about him. His name was Phil.
She realized she fell in love with him when she kept asking her crows for updates on how he is when she couldn’t check on him herself. She was content with watching him until she was able to claim his soul. She was patient. Death comes to everyone eventually. At least she thought so.
She wasn't there when it happened. He was ambushed. She was ruling the void, where the souls go, when her crows started to freak out and panic. Lady Death was confused. At first. Then she realized the only one her crows cared about was Phil. She rushed to him as fast as she could. Phil was on the ground, alone, bleeding out. Faster than any medical treatment that could save him. Death touched his face, staying with him.
“I’ve seen you before,” Phil gasped.
She pulled back. “How? How have you seen me before?”
“I’ve seen you on the battlefield,” he responds. “You were the most beautiful being I’ve seen.”
“I’m sorry,” Death was crying at this point.
“Why are you sorry?” he coughed. “This is your job, right?”
“Yes, it is. But I don’t want you to die.”
“It’s okay.” His pulse is getting weaker. Lady Death cradles him in her arms, not ready to let him die. She pores some of her magic into him. His wounds start to close up. He starts breathing better, less labored. Once he passes out from the magic she takes him to his home. Not knowing what side effects this left him. Before he could only see her when he was close to death. Now he can always see her. He can also understand her crows that stay with him.
She was shocked when he talked to her crows. When she showed up and he said “hi,” she was ecstatic. She came whenever she wasn’t collecting souls or ruling the afterlife.
Now he is in his thirties. Phil and Death, who named herself Kristin, were on a walk when he did it. When he asked her about marriage. If it would be possible with her being death and him being mortal. She said yes. But they weren't fully engaged yet. Kristen was the one to do that. Death offered him her feather on September 17. If he takes it he would become her husband and her angel. Her angel of death.
He became her angel. They went to sleep that night and in the morning he had wings just as dark as hers. Later on in the future, they would have two little boys, William and Tommy. They each have a kid when they grow up. William has a son named Fundy. Tommy adopts a child named Shroud. Tommys best friends get married and have a son as well, Michael. They meet up with the blood god who has taken up a name as well. They rule over the world making sure it is safe, fair, kind, empathetic.
