Work Text:
Kieu My and Fatou have comfortably settled themselves in bed with a bowl of popcorn laying atop Kieu My's chest and an opened pack of sour gummies just beside her.
It had become a routine for the couple to eat snacks while laying in bed whenever they decide to spend the night together.
Kieu My picks a popcorn from the bowl and brings it up to Fatou's mouth. Fatou gladly munches on it.
"Does it taste good?" Kieu My asks, ignoring the camera that Fatou brought above them, recording what they were doing.
"Yeah."
"I don't like popcorn."
"You don't?"
Kieu My shakes her head and plops another popcorn in Fatou's mouth.
"You seemed to like it that time when we watched a horror movie at Ava's," Fatou says while munching and as she posts the story of her girlfriend feeding her popcorn.
Kieu My ponders for a moment, trying to recall what Fatou was talking about. "Oh. You remember that?" she chuckles as she bites on a gummy.
"How can I not when I was literally watching a movie beside the girl who I just couldn't seem to get off my mind," Fatou confidently shares.
Kieu My rolls her eyes but with a smile, and she can feel warmth climb up her neck and cheeks.
"It's not just something you can easily forget," Fatou says as she faces her girlfriend.
"You wanna hear something cheesy?" Kieu My asks, looking at Fatou.
Fatou nods in anticipation.
"I actually really don't like popcorn. I just ate it that time because I liked the thought of sharing a bowl with you...and," Kieu My hesitates for a moment. She scrunches her nose and chuckles, already cringing at what she was about to say, "I was kind of hoping our hands would- I don't know...brush or something."
A huge grin creeps on Fatou's face, "Really??"
Kieu My groans but laughs, "Yeah. I don't know. There was just something that drew me to you."
"Aww, babe," Fatou couldn't help but coo at the confession. "That's really cute."
Kieu My shyly buries half of her face in the pillow and groans, embarrassed at what she had just shared.
Fatou chuckles at her. "Hey, at least you didn't pretend you could actually watch horror movies just to impress your crush."
Kieu My laughs, "I was impressed though! You really didn't seem scared that time."
"Well, it was hard to focus on the film with you beside me. I was awfully cautious with whatever I did!"
"I legit was already planning to invite you to another horror movie night. I just didn't have the guts," Kieu My confesses.
"Awww, baby," Fatou leans in to give her girlfriend a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Anyway, take your popcorn! I'd rather eat these gummies," Kieu My hands over the popcorn bowl to Fatou while she takes another gummy and bites on it. This time, she lets the chewy candy stay between her teeth and leans over to Fatou for her girlfriend to try.
Fatou leans close and bites the other half of the gummy from Kieu My's mouth. Her face scrunches at the sour taste.
"Don't like it?"
"Not really. It's sour."
"Try this one," Kieu My says as she brings another gummy to her mouth, clipping it with her teeth and leaning again for Fatou to bite on.
Fatou laughs and tries the second gummy anyway. How can she say no to Kieu My, really?
Fatou leans once more and gives the gummy a bite, but this time, Kieu My leans herself forward and steals a quick kiss from Fatou. If Kieu My had to choose one favorite thing to do with her girlfriend, it would definitely be kissing her whenever she had the chance.
Kieu My loudly giggles at her own sudden antic and Fatou's eyes widen in surprise.
"How dare you steal a kiss from me!" Fatou dramatically gasps.
The couple spend the next thirty minutes finishing their snacks, talking about their day and giggling about random topics they can think of. Exhaustion eventually takes over them, and so they decide to set their snacks aside.
Fatou opens an arm for Kieu My to snuggle in and she gives her girlfriend a tight hug with her cheek squished on Kieu My's head. "Cuddling competition as promised," she whispers.
Kieu My only hums in response, already feeling tired. She lays her head on Fatou's chest and closes her eyes with an arm over the latter's waist.
Fatou, on the other hand, was still awake, appearing bothered by a certain thought. She breathes in Kieu My's strawberry scented shampoo, and relaxes herself in Kieu My's hug.
Fatou tries to sleep but couldn't. She speaks with a gentle raspy voice, "Babe?"
"Hm?"
"Sorry that I made you wait for half an hour in the rain," Fatou says with a sad and guilty tone.
"Huh?" The sudden apology wakes Kieu My up and she leans back to look at her girlfriend's face.
"I think I just lost track of time again and I-"
"Babe, it's okay," Kieu My reassures and cups Fatou's cheek with her hand. Her eyebrows furrow together when she says, "You don't have to apologize about that. The things I said were all just jokes. It's fun teasing you!"
"Yeah, I know, but I'm just sorry. I never want you to wait too long and even worse, catch a cold because of me. If only I didn't have this stupid dyscalculia-"
Kieu My cuts her off, clearly frustrated that Fatou's blaming herself because of her disorder. It pained to hear her girlfriend talk that way. "Baby, stop. Nothing's stupid about you, okay? Dyscalculia- that's something out of your control and I don't want you to hate yourself because of it. I have no problem waiting for you. I could wait the entire day for you for all I care! I really don't mind as long as you don't bail on me. If you do, then I would hate you for that, and you'd have to make it up to me," Kieu My says the last sentence jokingly with narrowed eyes, as if to threaten, which brings a smile to Fatou's face.
"Seriously, babe," Kieu My continues, her thumb gently grazing Fatou's cheek, "I don't want you to worry about that. I completely understand what you're going through. I did a lot of research about dyscalculia you know, and I can assure you, it's something I can handle as your girlfriend, okay?"
Fatou weakly smiles, and, after a moment of just adoring the girl in front of her, she leans forward to give Kieu My a soft, chaste kiss. "I love you, babe." She kisses Kieu My a second time and feels the latter's fingers gently caress her face.
"Love you, too," Kieu My smiles then proceeds to bury herself back in Fatou's chest, comfily hugging her again.
Fatou's chin props on the top of her girlfriend's head when she says almost inaudibly, "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
She hears Kieu My murmur an, "I know."
Fatou laughs at the response and kisses the side of Kieu My's head, closing her eyes in the process, as she drifts off to dreamland.
