Pocky

Summary:

Milk goes to the supermarket, buys pocky, and then Dark Choco and Milk play the pocky game. That’s literally just the fic.

Notes:

I’m technically late. I also don’t know why out of all the things that could have motivated to write anything, it was Pocky Day. Why.

I also haven’t played this game so uh *thumbs up* (Edit: This was not meant to be in the summary.)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Milk glanced at the list of items that he had written down before he had walked into the supermarket. Jelly Jam, bottles of milk, biscuit flour… They were all items that Milk had noticed a shortage of when he opened the fridge around 20 minutes ago. Technically, Milk  could have prepared breakfast with what was already inside, but he felt it was better to stock up as soon as possible. That was definitely the main reason and not because Milk heavily preferred to drink one glass of milk for ever meal he ate.

Milk pushed his shopping cart along as he walked through aisles. He was able to grab everything he needed pretty quickly and began heading to the cashier before he caught sight of the supermarket’s snack aisle. He pulled out his wallet to see how much money he brought with him, and hesitated for a moment before beginning to grab different bags of snacks.

Pretzels, potato chips… This would be nice to have when I hang out with friends… oh, this is…!

Milk quickly put the pile of newly acquired snacks into his cart and smiled at the assortment of Pockys that he had just noticed. He hadn’t been aware that the supermarket sold these, although to be fair, the supermarket just had its grand opening about a week ago. Milk had only passed by the supermarket during that week with the intent of actually checking the store out, but he had ended up being occupied with other things that week. Milk decided to grab a few boxes of different flavors. Chocolate, strawberry, mint… Milk couldn’t wait to eat a few of these later! It seemed to be a well-known snack from what he heard, and he’s been meaning to try it.

There was also a particular game with the snack that also sparked his interest slightly, and the thought of it caused him to nervously smile as he felt his face warm up a little. Milk quickly regained his composure and placed the box of pockys into the cart, attempting to push those thoughts out of his brain. It was just a snack he would pull out of the cupboard once in a while and enjoy. Maybe if Dark Choco happened to be around too, Milk could share it with him and…

Milk gripped the handles of his shopping cart tightly as he began walking towards the cashier aisle.

“That is…a lot of food that you bought.” Dark Choco noted as Milk carried two large paper bags in his arms. He walked over, took one of the paper bags, and carried it over to the kitchen table.

“Yup!” Milk smiled as he placed the other paper bag next to the previous one and began pulling out what he had bought. “I noticed that we were running out on some things, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to go out and buy some.”

“Yeah, I saw the last remaining, half-empty bottle of milk,” Dark Choco said as he cracked a tiny smile. “You are definitely a milkaholic.”

“I wish I could deny that but…” Milk chuckled, slightly embarrassed, as he pulled out a milk bottle from the bag in front of him. “There’s no such thing as drinking too much milk. And it’s in my name!” Dark Choco laughed a little as he opened the other paper bag and then proceeded to stare into it.

“I honestly wasn’t expecting you to buy this many snacks,” Dark Choco said as he looked up to see Milk with a sheepish grin and one hand scratching his head. “I don’t mind; just…don’t spend too much.” He began taking out the snacks from the bag one by one.

“I know,” Milk replied as he walked over to their fridge and began placing milk bottles and jelly jam jars on the top shelf. “I just thought it’d be nice to have more snacks, and honestly I think it’s also nice to splurge once in a while as a little treat.”

“Alright,” Dark Choco stated before holding up one of the pocky boxes from the bag. “Also the supermarket sells these?”

“Yeah, I was surprised too!” Milk responded a little too excitedly for his own liking and lowered his voice a bit. “I’ve always wanted to try these ever since I heard about them, and a lot of people told me about-“ Milk realized a little too late what he was about to mention and quickly shut his mouth, as his cheeks began to warm up again. Dark Choco slightly raised an eyebrow at Milk’s abrupt cut off.

“About…?” Dark Choco asked, and Milk silently cursed himself for not being able to keep his mouth shut in that moment. He’d have thought that even when both of them began living in the same house, Milk would have gotten better at handling his feelings. But no, right now, his heart was skipping so many beats, and he felt like he could actually burst into flames on the spot. Amazing how Dark Choco caused him to feel this way.

Honestly, he would have preferred doing this later, but literally what was stopping him right now other than his emotional state?

“Well…there’s a game that people mentioned,” Milk said as he took the box Dark Choco was holding, fumbled with opening it, and pulled out a pocky. “We start off at opposite ends of a pocky and keep taking bites until we reach the middle. The winner is apparently the first person to get to the middle without breaking or dropping the stick.”

“…Interesting…” Dark Choco murmured for a moment before continuing. “I wouldn’t mind playing.”

“T-hat’s great!” Milk stammered as he could feel his face burn even more now. Both of them stood there in silence for a minute or so, which really did not help Milk calm down at all. Did he mean right now or later? They hadn’t even eaten anything yet; was this even the right time? Suddenly, Milk felt the pocky get pulled away from his hand, and he stared, dumbfounded, at Dark Choco putting the pocky in his mouth and then looking at Milk expectantly.

Well.

Milk hesitatingly bit down on the other end, and both of them began to slowly eat from their end of the pocky. Or at least, it felt slow. Excruciatingly slow. Milk could feel sweat form and drip down his neck as he nervously kept chewing. He glanced up and locked eyes with Dark Choco for a few seconds, finding himself mesmerized in Dark Choco’s open, ruby-shaded eye. Milk could see as both of them began to reach the middle of the pocky and could feel nervous anticipation slowly rise up inside of him. Suddenly, Dark Choco leaned forward and crashed his lips into Milk’s, and Milk could feel himself lose the last tiny piece of pocky. Honestly, at this point, he did not even care about that all, as he closed his eyes and gave in to what he had wanted for the past few minutes.

Milk was the first one to break away from their kiss, as he was nearly out of breath. He looked at Dark Choco, who gave a tiny grin as their eyes met.

“A little more fun than I thought it was going to turn out, although most of it came from me noticing how much it looked like you were going to faint on the spot,” Dark Choco began to chuckle as Milk gave him a slight pout. “Overall, this just seems to be a very elaborate way of me getting to kiss you, which I wish we got to that part sooner.” Dark Choco pulled out another pocky stick from the open container, but Milk immediately snatched it from him,  and placed it back in the box.

“We can have our second round some time after we eat a proper breakfast, okay?” Milk said as he gave Dark Choco a quick kiss on the cheek before setting a pan on the stove. “What do you want to eat for breakfast today?”

“Pancakes, toast with blueberry jelly jam spread and a glass of milk,” Dark Choco replied as he wrapped his arms around Milk. “And then our special appetizer afterwards, right?”

“I don’t even think that counts as an appetizer, Dark Choco,” Milk replied as he nudged Dark Choco with his elbow. Dark Choco laughed quietly as he unwrapped his arms and opened the fridge, pulled out the pancake batter and toast, and set them on the table. Milk smiled as he grabbed two slices of toast and put them in the toaster on the countertop plugged in next to the stove.

A life where the two of them could laugh and experience life’s blessings together. It was all Milk could have ever dreamed off, and as he watched the pancakes sizzle on the pan and Dark Choco smile as he set the plates on the table, Milk hoped he could continue to cherish this as long as he lived.

Notes:

Once again written in exchange for my sleep.
I was going to draw this instead but my brain said, “No you’ll write this out, even though you have more confidence in drawing.”

(Note right before this get posted) I like how I decide “wow I will spontaneously write in the middle of the night and not do any revisions whatsoever” but right before I post, I do one quick skip check line that will somehow save the integrity of anything I post on this site.
