They hadn't been reconciled for very long before they had a major mission together. Hanzo had only really just begun to settle into his new routine at Gibraltar Watchpoint. He had just begun to carve a routine around the watch point, had just begun to talk and possibly make friends. But this mission was vastly important and we don’t have enough resources and you two have the perfect skill set for this. And that's how they found themselves at a resort where a couples retreat was taking place . Trying to get close to Giovanni Cordo, a major funder for EMP manufacturing and production. His husband had insisted they go to the resort in a desperate attempt to save the marriage. And that's where they had been. In the hotel room up until Genji just had to leave and do reconnaissance.
"It'll be good Hanzo. It'll be useful." He had said.
And like a fool, Hanzo believed him.
And now they were on the other side of the whole damn resort, very much lost. Genji was in his civilian prosthetics. It was easier for him to blend in with others in them- many had extensive prosthetics from their time in the omnic war. It still hurt to look at him like that knowing that he had been the one to place those…
"We wouldn't be lost if someone hadn't been too prideful to take a map of the layout" He grits out instead of spiraling down that path again.
Genji spins around and points at him "we are supposed to know the layout and accepting a map would have not been something people who planned out this trip for months would do."
Hanzo's voice begins to raise "we could have easily avoi-"
"Could I help you gentleman with something?"
A female voiced omnic with dull bronze plating and a fitted vest sporting the resort's name appeared around the corner they were walking by.
Both men go rigid and side eye each other. They hadn't prepared for this. They weren't even really supposed to be seen quite yet.
"I-" Hanzo starts before getting cut off by Genji grabbing his waist and tugging him in close.
"My husband and I got a little lost here. He wanted to go stargazing by the pond we could have sworn he saw on the brochure"
The omnics' eyes light up at the mention of husband.
"I can help you back to your room if you'd like?" She offers.
“That would be great actually!” Genji answers back, “I know we were in the Marigold section of the resort…”
Hanzo pinches Genji hard under his arm. This was not the plan, this never was in the plan, the plan has now become a weird web of unnecessary complications and he was the one who would have to clean up after Genji's messes. As usual.
Genji flinches at the pinch but moves his hand to hold his. Awkwardly. Unconvincing.
The omnic claps her hands. “Yes, I know exactly where. Actually, if you had stayed on this path I do believe it would have led you two towards that section of the resort. So what brought you to the resort?”
They trail behind her. Still holding hands. Hanzo's hand is getting sweaty. He hates this.
Genji takes the lead again, “Well, we had just gotten married and,”
Hanzo elbows him hard on the side. He can hear Genji wheeze a little. Good. He deserved it.
“And had heard about an amazing couples retreat that we just had to go to, but the tickets were sold out so we decided instead to just stay at the same hotel. We had hope- are hoping that a free spot would open up and we would be able to step in instead.”
"Oh I'm sorry to hear that you missed out on tickets!" The omnic radiated genuine sadness.
The rest of the walk was spent in near silence. Only the omnic and Genji spoke with each other with Genji making a quip about how his "husband" was shy and didn't do well with others. Hanzo made another mental note to punch Genji as soon as they were back in their room. His hand is disgustingly sweaty as well and that does nothing to help his dour mood.
"And this is the Marigold section. I'm sure you two can find your way from here?"
"Ah yes. This looks familiar. Thank you!"
She hesitates on leaving "If I hear anything about opening in the program would you like to be notified mr…"
"Uchida and if you could, that would be great! Thank you so much"
"It would be my pleasure Mr. Uchida. A couple as lovely as yourselves deserve to have a wonderful honeymoon. If I find anything out I will ping your room."
Genji does a small bow and they part ways.
Hanzo throws Genji's hand off his, quickly wiping at the sweat that accumulated there.
"Room, now!" He growls.
"Whoa there honey bunches don't go jumping my bones now!"
Hanzo makes a disgusted noise and stomps into the room.
Genji walks in quietly and closes the door, locking it with the deadbolt.
"Anija…"
"Don't! Don't you anija me! This was not part of the plan! Genji! Do you understand! You just ru-"
"Fuck off Hanzo! I got us in! We're closer to the subject! We're going to be rubbing elbows with them and getting better information from them this way! We can gain their trust and see if there are any other donors paying for the manufacturing of EMPs! I know you don't give a shit about omnics but at least now we can get solid information this way!"
The headache that had been forming since Genji had insisted they do reconnaissance had intensified.
"I'm going to sleep." Hanzo says, rubbing his temples and making his way over to the couch.
The room had come with only one queen-sized bed. Genji catches on to where Hanzo is making his way to.
"The bed is over there."
"I'm sleeping on the couch."
Geni looks like he wants to say something more but decides against it. He shuffles over to the queen size bed as Hanzo pulls out some extra blankets from the closet to go sleep.
There is nothing but silence between the two for the rest of the night.
