Work Text:
The bright studio lights always made Izuku nervous. Not as nervous as he had been the first time he walked into a tv interview, sweating profusely and spending most of his energy trying not to stray from the talking points given to him by his agent. But there was still some general nervous energy that he couldn’t shake while under those blinding lights. The impromptu field interviews were so much easier since he had something to focus on and an excuse to escape if it started going poorly.
At least this was a low-stakes interview. Obligatory in a way. Rankings were coming up and he had been the lead in a major drug bust in the north. The bust had been a 6-month long project that had him traveling more than he liked. Shouto had been less than happy that he would be gone for days at a time with little to no warning, but this was an important mission. And boy did it pay off in the end. 7 tons of trigger was apprehended, with two new experimental strains being found in the batch. A majority of the villains were caught, but he knew that the main bosses were still out there. Still, it was a huge success.
There was a lot of talk that this was going to be the year he broke into the top 50, but Izuku wasn’t sure about that. His own statistical analysis of his ranking pointed to at least another year if he managed to not get injured and put on desk duty for 3 months like before. He knew that it would take a while for him to climb the ranks, even with how well-known Class 3-A was when they officially graduated. Most of his classmates had debuted within the top 250, which was almost unheard of. It was an uphill battle from there to climb the rankings though. Still, the talk show wasn’t supposed to be something he was worried about. A 10-minute segment, with only a few gif-worthy moments at most. That was the plan.
The first 8 minutes went smoothly, in his opinion. The host was newer and more excitable because of it, but her energy was contagious. Izuku liked hosts like that. They spoke about the schedule bullet points with an easy air around them. He was even thinking this might be his smoothest interview yet. He would have to ask his manager to put the host on the approved list.
“I know we’re a little short on time, so just one more question that’s been burning a hole in my mind.” She said, her smile never dropping. “What is it like to be one of the most eligible bachelors in Japan? Is today’s dating scene just as hard for Pro-Hero Deku as it is for everyone else?”
Izuku couldn’t help but laugh at her question. It was a new one, to say the least. Unlike most of his female counterparts, most of the media hadn’t started bothering him about his love life. But it was still a weird thing to ask. Why would he know anything about the dating scene? Shouto was the only person he ever dated and he wasn’t planning on changing that any time soon.
“I guess I’m still a bachelor technically, though maybe not for long. As for the dating scene, I wouldn’t know. I haven’t been single since my 3rd year at UA. You could probably ask Chargebolt or Cellophane though. They are more acquainted with the ups and downs of dating as a pro-hero.” He responded, leaning back into the comfortable couch. Izuku had expected her to laugh or assure him that she would at the next opportunity and move on. Instead, her mouth dropped in shock and whispers broke out through the small live audience.
“Y-you’re dating someone?!”
Izuku scrunched his eyebrows in confusion, glancing past her to look for Quinn. She stood in the wings, her face hidden in her hands as if she was witnessing a trainwreck.
“Yes? We’re about to celebrate our 3-year anniversary. You-you knew that already…right?” Izuku asked. The host leaned forward with excitement, an almost wild look in her eyes.
“No! No, we did not know that Deku-san! I-wow I can’t believe that you announced you’re off the market in such a casual way! 3 years is such a long time to hide your relationship. Is it because she’s another pro-hero? Ooh, is it Uravity?! You two have always been so close.” She rambled off. Quinn suddenly looked up at that point and frantically made the ‘X’ gesture with her arm. Izuku stared at her with wide eyes. He suddenly had a feeling he had done something really bad.
“U-um no, it’s not Uravity! We’re just really good friends. I-um, I wouldn’t say we were hiding it? I mean, we’re always hanging out in public and taking trips together.” He managed to get out.
How did they not know about his relationship? Sure, Shouto and him weren’t that big in PDA. Unlike Kacchan who had announced his relationship by making out with Kirishima on live television during their first hero ranking ceremony. But it couldn’t be that big of a surprise.
The host flattened slightly at his denial. “Well, you can’t keep us in suspense Deku-san! Who’s the lucky lady that has stolen the heart of one of Japan’s favorite heroes?” Her voice was pleading and he suddenly became aware of every pair of eyes focused on him. He had definitely done something really, really bad.
“U-um, well I’m not sure h-” His words were suddenly cut off as the studio sank into darkness. Screams echoed through the studio, ceasing only when the lights flared back on. The crew was frantic as they started to check on every piece of tech that just got unexpectedly shut off. Izuku however, had other things to worry about. Like the look on his agent’s face when she grabbed ahold of the Pro Hero’s arm and physically dragged him off the set.
“So sorry to cut the interview short but we are out of time and Deku-san is so busy today! Thank you for having us and please feel free to get in contact with our agency with any further requests.” She called out as they all but ran into the wings.
“Um, Quinn-san-”
“Don’t speak. Not until we get to the roof. And you are going straight home after this. No stopping and for all that is holy, stay offline until I say so.” She hissed under her breath. “I am going to go gray before I turn 30 because of you Deku-san.”
He wasn’t sure how to respond to that, so he just went along with her as they quickly made their way to the roof of the studio. Once she opened the door, Quinn finally released his arm and let out an ungodly shriek. “Quinn-san? What’s going on?”
“What’s going on is that you just announced your relationship on live tv without clearing it with anyone. Thank God you didn’t say Shouto-san’s name or Mei-san would fling me down the nearest set of stairs.” Quinn said as she worked her way through breathing exercises. Izuku blinked at her.
“But we’re not hiding our relationship? We go on dates all the time and spend the holidays together. I mean, we’ve lived together since we graduated. I thought everyone knew.” His mind was going 100 miles a minute trying to decipher what was happening.
The look she gave him said everything. “Oh, honey. It’s okay. I’ll-I’ll need to get some things together, talk to Mei-san. Head home for now and I’ll let you know what time we’re meeting tomorrow to work it all out. Just stay offline and inside.” Her words were not as reassuring as they were meant to be, but that was all he was getting at this point. With a bow and soft apology, the air around him crackled with energy as he took off towards his home. Hopefully, Shouto wasn’t watching the interview and they could just relax and ignore everything that was going on.
. . . . . . . . . . .
The universe was against him and his phone screen showed the latest proof of its hatred for Izuku. Shouto’s text blinked across the screen, making him groan at the shitshow he was walking into.
Momo, Katsuki, and Ochako are in our living room interrogating me about your ‘secret girlfriend’. Should I be concerned or is this another prank? -S
“Wow, how rude of 2 lesbians and a gay man to just assume I’m dating a woman.” He muttered to himself, typing out his response quickly as he made the next jump between roofs. Only 4 blocks away.
Apparently, no one knew we were dating??? I finished up with that interview and social media is going crazy rn. I have no clue how our closest friends didn’t know though. -I
I’m almost home, can you open up the balcony and move Judith? -I
Oh. Is that why the group chat is blowing up? -S
Izuku didn’t even want to think about the chaos that was happening in the Class 3-A group chat. He left it on mute for a reason. After the whole Cream Cheese Fiasco, he had decided that being out of the loop was better than trying to keep up with everything. Soon enough, their high-rise balcony came into view, red and white hair blowing gently in the breeze. He couldn’t help but smile as he landed on their railing, green lightning still crackling around him. Their new strawberry plant was safely tucked in the corner, looking as beautiful as ever. Shouto raised an eyebrow but said nothing as the freckled hero climbed down, simply reaching his hand out. Izuku took it without hesitation and pulled him close.
“Hi.” He whispered, tucking his nose into his boyfriend's neck. Pine and the clean scent of their laundry detergent surrounded him, easing the tension settling in his spine. Shouto’s arms wrapped around his waist, a playful huff of air blowing one of Izuku’s curls away from him.
“The PR team is spamming our voicemail. How do you continue to get into situations like this?” He responded. Izuku let out a small whine at his teasing. “Aizawa was right to call you a problem child.”
“He also called you a problem child. At least I’ve never cursed out a police chief.”
Shouto chuckled and Izuku felt the gentle press of his lips through his wild mess of hair. “Glad your home. Ready to face the music?”
“OH MY GOD, SHOUTO IS THE SECRET GIRLFRIEND!” Ochako squealed from inside their living room. Izuku let out a sigh and pulled away.
“Not really, but they’re better than the media right now.”
The pair walked the rest of the way into their apartment, closing the balcony doors behind them. As expected, their three closest friends were in various states of shock. Ochako was pointing at them in an accusatory manner, standing as if she was about to jump them. Momo’s hands were clasped tightly in front of her mouth, eyes flickering between the two of them like she was solving a calculus problem. And Kacchan….
“I KNEW IT! I knew it and I told you two that these fuckers were dating! They were way too nauseatingly in love with each other at Mina’s New Year’s Party to still be pining. But did anyone listen to me? No! Suck it Cheeks!” He yelled with a concerning amount of glee in his voice. Izuku wanted to rethink his choice of friends, but it was too late. The bonds of 3-A were too strong to try and run from their chaoticness now.
Izuku squeezed Shouto’s hand for support. “Yes, Shouto and I are dating.”
“I didn’t think we were hiding it. At least, not since we graduated.” Shouto added.
Momo let out a long sigh, her expression changing to one of exhaustion. “Shouto, you were literally complaining to me two weeks ago that you missed Izuku and were hopelessly pining for him.”
“I can’t pine for my boyfriend? That’s rude. I like pining for Izuku. It was all I did for my formative teenage years.” Izuku snickered at Shouto’s deadpanned delivery, bumping their shoulders together.
“I like pining for you too, now that it's mutual.” A fake gagging sound came from Kacchan, which Izuku chose to ignore. Ochako lowered her hand, her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“Okay, how about you two start from the beginning and explain to us how you never told us you were dating? I demand an explanation of how you managed to get together without any of our help!”
The two boyfriends exchanged glances. This was going to be a long day.
. . . . . . . . . .
“I can’t believe none of them knew. 3 years and no one put it together or asked questions.” Izuku ranted as he flopped onto the couch, wet hair landing straight into Shouto’s lap. The other man made a sound of distaste but began running his left hand through the tangled curls, slowly drying them.
“Apparently we need to either make out in front of them or give a graphic play-by-play on what happens in our bedroom.” Shouto responded, his nose scrunching up at the words of their friends.
After satisfying Ochako’s curiosity of how they got together (a story filled with a lot of tears, quiet confessions in the dead of night, and Izuku’s least favorite All Might movie playing in the background), they had asked how the three of them never thought they were together. And it was simple: they already acted like they were dating before getting together, except without the more intimate things. So since no one ever saw them kiss and the two heroes had decided to keep their sex life private, it never clicked.
Well, never clicked enough. Kacchan did admit that there had been several times over the years that someone had suspected something, but the class was so sure that if the two of them did manage to get together, they would be shouting it from the rooftops. So they just continued assuming that the two of them were just pining idiots living together.
God forbid they wanted privacy.
“The media should have put it together though! I mean, we go on dates pretty often. And we’ve partnered up on big missions that meant we had to do interviews together. Does everyone think we’re just roommates?” Izuku asked, glancing up to stare at his boyfriend’s face.
The setting sun flowed through their balcony door, bathing the both of them in a golden light. Shouto absentmindedly flipped through the tv channels, the long strands of red and white hair flowing down his shoulders. He reached up to play with a singular white strand, smiling. God, his boyfriend was so pretty. His mind flashed back to the display of gold bands that he had seen while shopping for the newest Froppy merch 2 weeks ago. Their anniversary was coming up….
“They probably just think we’re close friends. Like the gal pals thing.”
Izuku blinked twice. “ The what? ”
“The gal pals thing. Tsu told me about it.” Shouto reiterated, scrolling through his phone. “It’s when people just assume gay couples are really good friends instead of lovers. She called it ‘heteronormative bullshit’ I believe.”
“Like when Momo and Kyouka were trying to announce their relationship and the media kept on saying it was nice to see such supportive friends?”
“Exactly. Just gal pals things.” Shouto paused, his eyes flickering down to meet Izuku’s. “I mean, we could just look through some of the old gossip headlines that Mei won’t let me read to find out.”
Izuku slowly sat up, already missing the feeling of Shouto playing with his hair, and grabbed his own phone. Quinn had said to stay offline, but if he didn’t like anything or comment on something, did it really count? “First one to find an article that hints that we’re actually a couple gets out of Denki’s next guys night out?”
“Deal.”
He didn’t think it would be that hard. Shouto and him had been photographed by the paparazzi constantly, even when they were UA students. They weren’t the most interesting of people so they often stayed out of the headlines, but Izuku knew they had been in the gossip magazines before. Quinn didn’t like him reading them, but social media was the kind of thing that made it hard to avoid. So he knew that there had to be at least one article where the author hinted at something more.
After all, a secret relationship between two upcoming Pro-Heroes, one who is the son of the current #1 hero, should be newsworthy right?

“I think I hate the hashtag on that more than anything.” Shouto mused when Izuku showed him the article with a pained look. “Surely there are better couple names than that for us.”
“I’m sure our Twitter fanbase has a bunch, but most magazines are a little slow on the uptake,” Izuku answered, continuing to scroll through over 2 years of random headlines. “Why are there so many articles about me and Ochako having a secret relationship?”
“I’ve found at least 3 separate articles claiming that I was going to propose to Momo soon. One of them had a picture of her literally sitting in Kyouka’s lap and they said she was being affectionate with her ‘close friend’.”
Izuku groaned and clicked his phone closed. This felt like a fever dream. “Tsu’s right. This is heteronormative bullshit. We’re going to have to formally announce our relationship. When Mina and Sero dated, they just had to appear in public together holding hands and everyone knew. We’ve been photographed on dozens of dates and are just ‘good bros.’ I hate this.” He whined, rubbing his temples to ease the incoming headache that was building.
Shouto hummed and leaned into Izuku’s space, resting his head on the freckled man’s shoulder. “I mean, we don’t have to.”
“Sho, I’m not going to keep accidentally hiding our relationship. I want everyone to know that I’m not available and somehow managed to snag the most beautiful man on Earth.”
His arm wrapped around the dual-colored man’s waist and pulled him closer, taking advantage of their position to press a kiss into his silky hair. He didn’t usually mind that Shouto was taller than him, even after the growth spurt he had their last year at UA, but it did mean that he often wasn’t able to give his boyfriend forehead kisses. Which was the ultimate travesty in Izuku’s mind.
“I’m not saying we hide it. Let’s see how long it takes for the media to realize that we’re actually together.”
“They’ve already had 3 years to figure it out on their own.”
Shouto rolled his eyes. “Yeah, but now it’s on everyone’s mind thanks to that interview. Don’t you want to know what the final straw would be for it to click?”
“You just want to fuck with the media, don’t you?” Izuku deadpanned. The silence that followed told him everything. “This is why I continue to gift Mei-san fancy wine every occasion I can.”
“I’m a delightful client to have, thank you very much. So?” Shouto asked once more, looking up at Izuku through red and white eyelashes. He silently cursed his inability to deny Shouto anything and sighed.
“If our managers sign off on it, fine. But we’re making it clear this was your idea.”
. . . . . . . . . .
Much to Izuku’s disbelief, Mei and Quinn signed off almost immediately. It saved them from scheduling a press conference or public statement, would keep the two in a positive public light, and would make for a great publicity storm once their relationship went public. And Mina was more than happy to spread the news about their plan when Shouto told her about it. Soon enough, there was a betting pool in the 3-A chat on how long they thought it would take, which had wildly different timelines. He really hoped Tsu’s guess of 9 months was wrong. He didn’t think he could keep this up that long, but she had little to no hope in the media.
“I was photographed kissing my girlfriend while we were on a date and they said that we were good friends. We both had already said we were lesbians and dating multiple times at that point. The media isn’t that bright.” She stated coolly when Izuku asked why.
“Okay but lesbians always have a harder time due to the idea that girls are a lot physically closer to each other than guys!” Kirishima argued. Tsu gave him a tired look.
“Kirishima, you and Denki have on more than one occasion told the press that bros always help bros with anything, including physical intimacy. The media is not surprised anymore by the closeness of 3-A.”
Denki pouted at her words. “Okay, but bros should help bros out. It’s not gay if you have socks on.”
“That…you know never mind. Not my circus, not my monkeys.”
So with everything set up, they continued on with their lives. Izuku avoided going on live TV interviews since Quinn had grounded him from them, but you couldn’t avoid the press at the sight of a villain attack.
“Deku-San! How does your girlfriend feel about your dangerous career?” A reporter yelled as he was finishing with the police. It was a standard robbery, nothing too flashy. If he hadn’t been walking by on his way back from Shouto’s agency, he most likely wouldn’t have even known about it.
Turning to face the cameras, he let out a nervous laugh. “Oh, my partner is also a pro-hero so we both know what it’s like to be on the other side of it. They’re very supportive of my goals though! I would have never gotten this far without them.”
There was a rapid amount of writing following his words and Izuku knew he was going to be on some sort of late-night show segment.
“Deku-San! You said that you’ve been together since your last year of schooling. Did you meet them at UA?”
“Oh yeah! We met at UA in my first year but we didn’t get together until third year. In all honesty, I’m still a little shocked he liked me back.” He couldn’t hide the gentle smile creeping up. Talking about Shouto to the press was going to be his new favorite activity if he got to ramble about how amazing his boyfriend is to a captive audience. “I’m a very lucky man.”
Any other questions were soundly interrupted by an incoming call of a car chase happening a few blocks away and he bounded away with glee. Quinn had to make a statement clarifying that Pro-Hero Deku was indeed a bisexual man who was in a happy relationship with another man.
When those sound bites made their way to the internet, Twitter went rabid trying to figure out who his partner was. Shouto had a blast scrolling through the various guesses and arguments that night. “Some of them have guessed correctly, though there’s been several that said you’re obviously in a throuple with Kirishima and Katsuki.”
“Wow, hate that. Still no word on the media’s final guess?”
“Oh no, no one’s been brave enough to guess. They think you’re a sweet boyfriend though, which is a true statement.”
Slowly, weeks went by as their lives as heroes picked up with various missions and day-to-day tasks. The news cycle moved fast enough when it came to drama and once it was clear that Pro-Hero Deku’s relationship was rather boring. The internet, on the other hand, had a harder time letting things like that go.
“If Shouto is not Deku’s bf, I will eat my left shoe. They literally live together. Also, those yearning looks???? At the gala last year??? Sorry, but that was so homo of them.” Shouto read off from the egg chair on their balcony. Izuku chuckled as he continued to water their plants. “Do you think if I like the tweet, that’s too obvious?”
“Did Mei-san give you back your access to the official Shouto account?”
“She said as long as I don’t drunk tweet anymore, it’s fine.”
Izuku hummed and turned to look at the younger man currently curled up into a comfy ball. “I mean, might as well. We’re 2 months into this, which is longer than I thought.”
Shouto nodded and clicked the tiny heart, scrolling away without another thought. That simple action caused a new set of conspiracy theories to flood in, much to Shouto’s delight. Several late-night talk shows were ecstatic to pick apart their past photos and social media posts to see if this was real or an elaborate joke.
“Several members of the Cursed Class have said that Shouto-san has a weird sense of humor though! I could see him liking it just to see the media’s reaction to it.” The pink-haired host said, gesturing to the tweet in question. Izuku wasn't paying attention enough to remember her name. Shouto snorted from his position in Izuku’s lap, the two of them intertwined on the couch.
Her co-host shook his head. “I think this fan is onto something. I mean, it’s the most obvious answer, isn’t it? They haven’t even been hiding it. I’m team Shoku. They’d be a total power couple.”
"Why is that our couple name?"
“Ooo, does that count as a win?” Shouto murmured. Izuku reached for his phone to pull up the 3-A chat just to see if anyone else was watching the same show.
“Well until one of them officially confirms it, we’re just going to have to disagree.”
“Ochako wants to count it, probably because she’s the one who guessed 2 months. Denki is fighting for his life in the chat.” Izuku answered, his fingers drawing random patterns on Shouto’s waist. “Should we just call it and get Mei-san and Quinn-san to make an official statement?”
The man in his arms simply hummed at the show went to a commercial break. “Our anniversary is in two weeks. We could make one of those cute Instagram posts announcing it. I know Mei wanted to schedule another post soon anyway.”
Izuku thought back to the small velvet box hiding in his desk drawer at work and smiled. The ring had been sitting in there for a month now, bought on a random day where he could convince Iida to come with him for advice. He really hadn’t needed it though, since the moment he saw the ring, he knew that it was the one. Was it cheesy as hell to propose on their anniversary? Yes. Did he care? Not one bit.
“Sounds like a plan. I’ll text Quinn-san about it.”
. . . . . . . . . .
And like every other plan he made, that one quickly went to hell not even 5 days later. The call had come in about a bank robbery in progress, with the gang of villains having a particularly destructive mix of quirks. Shouto had been the first to respond, sending a simple text to Izuku that he would be late for their lunch date. Izuku didn’t mind the delay. He had the day off and was planning on catching up on random chores around the apartment anyway.
He hummed one of the new pop songs that the radio had been playing constantly, dusting their various shelves and display cases for Izuku’s rarer merchandise he collected over the years. The news played in the background as a way for him to keep up with the robbery in progress. It was a hostage situation, with the potential threat of a bomb in the building which drastically upped the stakes. Shouto wasn’t the only hero on the scene, but it was still a little nerve-wracking to not be at his side during times like this.
But this was their job. He just needed to trust his boyfriend to come home safe.
“ The front door to the bank is opening and it looks like the hostages are being released! We’re not sure how many there were, but police said the number was anywhere from 10 to-OH MY GOD. ” The news anchor exclaimed, making Izuku turn to look at the screen. His eyes widened as an explosion went through the building, causing a portion of it to start caving in. Ice pillars appeared from the inside, catching most of the debris as the remaining hostages made a run for it.
“ An explosion just went off in the left side section of the bank. It seems that Pro Hero Shouto is inside, but we’re unsure if there are any other heroes providing assistance as well. And we’re getting reports that gunshots are being heard from the inside of the building. Other heroes are rushing in-”
The rag in his hand hit the floor as Izuku rushed to grab his extra set of shoes from next to the balcony, his mind already running wild. Shouto was probably fine. This wasn’t the worst fight they’ve ever faced, not by a long shot. But if he didn’t have any backup and couldn’t use his quirk to its fullest capacity due to the space constraints….
The comforting feeling of electricity rippled through his body as Izuku leaped off their balcony and towards that section of town. It wasn’t far, but it was going to be a shit show on the ground, especially now that an explosion went off. Please be safe, please be safe. That mantra repeated in his head as he got closer to the scene, the wail of sirens acting as a guiding light.
He landed not far from the police barrier, eyes trying to take in the wreckage. The front section of the building was close to caving in, cracks in the ice already forming. He couldn’t hear gunshots anymore, but that wasn’t comforting. Finding the closest officer in sight, he grabbed the man’s arm. “What’s the status of those inside?”
“Sir, you need to-”
“I’m Deku, Pro-Hero.” He interrupted, fishing for his license in his hoodie pocket. “Now, the status of those inside?”
The officer took his time looking over Izuku’s license, much to his annoyance, before handing it back. “Shouto-san went in to confront the villains while another hero slipped through the front to get the civilians out. All the hostages are accounted for, but with the structural integrity of the building, we can’t send in any backup. There were gunshots, but those stopped after about 5 rounds were let off. Some rescue-oriented heroes are on the way but-”
A rumble came from behind them, cries coming from those closest to the building as the ice finally gave. Panic shot through him as rubble came crashing down, dust spewing in the air. He didn’t stop to think. Other officers shouted as he jumped past the barrier and started sprinting towards the half-destroyed building.
Please be safe. Please be safe.
“Sho? Shouto, can you hear me?” Izuku called out. The collapse was solely on the left side of the building, though Izuku knew from experience that nothing was safe at this point. As he moved through the rubble, he could see the outlines of some sort of humanoid shapes just outside the collapsed area. When he got closer, he realized what it was.
All three villains were frozen in place, their faces telling just how uncomfortable their current predicament was. Next to the three popsicles was a small covering made of ice, though several pieces of it were cracked due to debris. A flash of red was all he needed to see before he sprinted over.
“Sho!” The hero in question laid under the covering, stiff and with no sign of movement. Nausea began to build as Izuku fell to his knees to examine his lover.
He had clearly taken a shot to the leg based on the amount of blood, with other various cuts and scratches visible. Izuku’s heart dropped at the sight of blood straining Shouto’s white hair. He probably got hit by debris of some sort when the building collapsed. Hands shaking, he gently reached for his wrist.
A pulse. Weak, but present. That’s all that mattered. Shuddering with relief, his grip on Shouto’s wrist tightened. “Sho?”
There was no response. He was probably out cold. Hopefully, that’s all it was. As carefully as he could, Izuku gathered his boyfriend into his arms and stood. The position should have been more awkward due to their height difference and the fact that Shouto was by no means a petite man, but this wasn’t Izuku’s first time carrying him bridal style. Usually, the circumstances were more romantic than this.
The moment they came back into view, they were bombarded by the other heroes and police. “All the villains are fine, but they’re iced. Shouto managed to get them out of the way of the collapse, but it looks like he got hit by debris. Medic!”
Izuku was well aware of standard medical procedure and so he reluctantly released Shouto once the EMTs reached them, watching carefully as they did their routine checks.
“Deku-san! Deku-san! Why did you rush to the scene? Were you called in to provide assistance?” A voice asked from nearby. He looked towards the crowd for the first time and saw the number of reporters eagerly waiting for his response. Next to him, one of the EMTs cleared their throat.
“Are you coming with us? We need to go now.”
Izuku nodded and moved to climb in with them. “Sorry, please refer your questions to the other heroes on the scene! My main priority right now is my boyfriend’s health.” He called out absentmindedly, the metal doors cutting off any response from the media.
It was halfway through their ride to the hospital that one of the EMTs finally cleared her throat. “So, I just wanted to say that I always thought you and Shouto-san were together. I’m a big fan of both of you.”
He blinked in confusion for a second before his words came back to him. Despite everything else, he let out a half-hearted chuckle. “Oh, man. Shouto is going to be so mad when he wakes up. We had this whole Instagram announcement plan for our anniversary and I just ruined it with a throwaway comment. Um, thank you for your support!”
“I’m sure he’ll forgive you, given the circumstances.” The other EMT said. Izuku nodded, reaching over to grasp Shouto’s hand.
“I sure hope so. We can just change it to an engagement announcement. If he says yes.” The squeak in response from the girl made him look up. “Um, please don’t tell anyone about that.”
“No! No, I wouldn’t do that at all!”
“What happens in the ambulance, stays in the ambulance. You’re secret is safe with us Deku-san.”
